Boehner slams righty PACs over budget deal again: “Frankly I think they’ve lost all credibility”

posted at 1:01 pm on December 12, 2013 by Allahpundit

Confession: I did not expect that this lame budget deal would be Boehner’s red line for tea-party criticism. But maybe it had to be that way. If he’d slammed them in October, when Cruz and Lee had galvanized the base against the bete noire of O-Care, it might have cost him his gavel. The stakes are lower now — he proved he was willing to shut down the government for a conservative cause, everyone understands that any budget deal with Democrats will vary only in shades of badness, and enough people have tuned out of the news in December that there won’t be any grand revolt against him. If he wants to throw down the gauntlet to groups like the Club for Growth and FreedomWorks, now’s as good a time as any. And who knows? Maybe he legitimately feels it’s “ridiculous” for conservative PACs to shriek over a compromise when the stakes are as small as they are here. Take it from me: Even a RINO has his breaking point, my friends. Our candy-asses can stand kicking only so many times.

Is this smart, though?

The more antagonistic he gets with outfits like Heritage Action, the greater the risk that they’ll elevate this vote into a litmus test and the greater the pressure there’ll be on Republican fencesitters in the House to vote no. Then again, the vote’s only four or five hours away. This was the point of jamming the bill through this week — the quicker you move, the less time conservative PACs have to build opposition. Members want to go home for Christmas. They’ll risk some short-term grassroots wrath over a vote that people almost certainly won’t remember a year from now.

Here’s video from his presser. Watch for the big “Are you kidding me?!” freakout at 1:30. Terrifying exit question:

LOST CREDIBILITY?

On July 21st Boehner appeared on CBS’ ‘Face The Nation’ on which he was repeatedly asked if he supported Obama’s/Liberals’ proposed Amnesty law.

Boehner, Speaker of the House, Leader of the GOP in the House, rose to the challenge when Americans needed him to step up and demonstrate his conviction and leadership and declared, “…as difficult as this issue is, me taking a hard position for or against some of these issues will make it harder for us to get a bill.”

“My taking a hard position for or against some of these issues will make it hard for us to get a bill”?! What the…?!

TRANSLATION: Despite the fact that I am SUPPOSED TO BE the leader of the Republican Party in the House and am 2nd in lne to be President if need be, I CAN’T come out and tell anyone what I truly believe or how I truly feel. I am INCAPABLE of BEING a ‘Leader’, and I have a well-documented history of caving to the slightest pressure and kissing Liberal backsides in order to protect and defend my own job/position/personal wealth.

“…will make it harder to get a bill.”
– This is what it is really about and does expose Boehner’s loyalties. ‘Yes, I am for rewarding Illegals, for ignoring how hard others have worked to become citizens legally by obeying our laws, and am determined to grant some form of Amnesty. After all, the Latino population is growing, and I can’t make any of them mad for fear I will lose their vote and thus my own plush, elitist job.’

Boehner doesn’t LEAD or stand on any type of conviction. he calculates what the best move would be that would lose him the least amount of votes and allow him to remain robbig citizens blind while they pay his salary, benefits, etc.

Boehner is just another Washington Establishment LOSER who has become addicted to his tax-payer funded elitist life and will do whatever he has to TO us in order to keep it.

Enough is enough…let the sampaign to remove his and all other Establishment politicians from the halls our Founding Fathers built!

A couple of quotes:

ANC News reports:

From Boehner, it was a rare and pointed public dressing-down of Club for Growth, Heritage Action, the Koch Brothers and other conservative groups that have urged Republicans to oppose the budget deal. Boehner openly questioned the motives of such groups, demonstrating a far more aggressive posture than he usually takes.

Rush Limbaugh notes:

Now, a number of conservative groups have reacted in totally warranted anger and outrage, and Boehner has lashed out at them.

I’m convinced he’s gonna try to walk some of this back, but he’s called them ridiculous.

One of the three groups is the Heritage Action Group, Heritage Foundation, our buddies there. Friday, grab… Let’s see. Grab sound bite number four. This is Boehner, and this is this morning in Washington at a press conference talking about the tentative budget deal.

The shift of public opinion against us forced us into a short term deal, guaranteeing the Democrats would demand a crack in the sequester wall to avert a second shutdown.

And WHAT, dear kiddies, would Obama LOVE more than anything else for Kwanzaa? A shutdown to get the media off ObamaCare!

That’s why the term didn’t make any sense for eva to use. There are conservative purist, but that’s irrelevant to this issue. This is only a fiscal issue. This is about R’s that want to be more aggressive against Obama’s disastrous fiscal policies and R’s that want to wait to fight another day. A day that never seems to come because the media is willing to make us all look bad whenever that fight does come.

It’s almost as if eva thinks that the media will suddenly jump on the R side if it takes control of the Senate. It’s almost as if the impasse wouldn’t simply elevate up to Obama if the Senate is taken. It’s almost as if the media wouldn’t blame R’s for a shutdown if they controlled the Senate.

They already have been, but you have been to blind to see it. There were a lot of Obama’s agenda that went unfulfilled such as Card Check, universal healthcare, etc.

And what the hell do think will happen if the Establishment gets the Senate? They’ll suddenly grow spines and start fighting for a limited government agenda? ‘Cause history (re: 2002-2006) ain’t exactly on your side.

Or would you just be happy winning the Senate for victory’s sake?

“We’ve spent the last year trying to protect the American people from the consequences of this healthcare law. If you look toward next year we are going to be looking for ways to protect the American people from what’s happening out there. ” –Boehner

Please. Name one thing Boehner and establishment have done to protect us from the ACA. I’ll wait.

AllahsNippleHair on December 12, 2013 at 3:28 PM

LOL, and Reid chiming in, too.

Ok, you folks advocating this to be a good deal, and that the establishment is doing the right thing for the GOP by going to war with conservatives – still think so?

Speak up now that you are in agreement with Chris Matthews, Harry Reid, etc, because we all know, *they* certainly know what’s best for the GOP.

I think you’re being generous with quarter-wit status.

John Boehner has a lifetime ACU rating of over 90%.

rockmom on December 12, 2013 at 1:29 PM

If you compare the so-called American Conservative Union to other conservative groups, you’ll discover that ACU ratings are usually inflated. With the stands ACU board members are taking on things like immigration, you’ll see that the ACU is more about supporting big business interests than conservative interests.

David Keene, the last ACU President, is basically a con man. Al Cardenas, the current ACU president, is a huge amnesty shill.

Damn sheep, me and Eva are going to make Uggs out of you, your time is coming.

Bishop on December 12, 2013 at 3:45 PM

This schism in the Republican party is much deeper and wider than the vote on this particular bad piece of legislation, and much bigger than Boehner. This isn’t the first time that the GOPe has vilified conservatives, all the while trying to claim the mantle of conservative credibility and, thus, disenfranchise the base.

Conservative are tired of a Speaker who consistently believes that politics is about ‘compromise’ and fritters away any leverage the GOP may have at every opportunity in order to appease his pals across the aisle.

Conservatives are tired of electing politicians on specific promises made about specific issues only to see those politicians move to become part of the political class, selling out and breaking those campaign promises at the first opportunity.

Conservatives are tired of the endless rounds of bullying and spates of vitriol from within the party.

I note that Boehner filed for reelection just the other day. I don’t think it’s coincidental that he’s gagging for some publicity and trying to look tough. His problem is that he’s terrified to look tough acting in his capacity as Speaker against the opposition… so he tried it out on the conservatives.

As for me, I’ve always been an independent. I’m tired enough of the GOP’s failure to respect its own base, to honor its campaign promises, to live up to its own platform, to show them what its like when a constituent decides to take a page from the GOP’s book and cross the aisle.

Actually, I was currently completing a final, so I didn’t have the time to concentrate on a pissing contest. But since you asked, for both of you it would have been to put political pressure on Obama by sending him legislation that would have made it politically unviable with his base to veto, while making sure he didn’t get the means to demagogue the Republicans for the next presidential election.
