MSNBC: Let’s face it, “ObamaCare” was a word coined by wealthy white men to diminish Obama’s accomplishments

posted at 11:21 am on December 9, 2013 by Allahpundit

Via RCP. By coincidence, Charles Cooke has a piece out today on the alternate universe you too can inhabit if only you Lean Forward far enough:

America II, as anyone who watches the channel will discover rather swiftly, hosts a supermajority of well-meaning multi-culti, progressive types whose foolproof plans for explosive economic growth, uniform social justice, and general human utopia are constantly being undone by a blossoming white-supremacist movement, split apart by neo-secessionists, and existentially threatened by traitors whose defining characteristic is a never-quite-explained hatred for progress. America II features no gray areas whatsoever: All local variation is apartheid, each and every identification requirement is the second coming of Jim Crow, all criticism of the government is sedition. It’s exhausting.

On a network where smirking references to “teabaggers” are treated as witty, Harris-Perry’s attempt to rehabilitate “ObamaCare” as some sort of slur practically qualifies as clever. How to square the fact that O himself now uses the term with the quasi-religious belief that any Republican messaging about him, no matter how innocuous and easily explained by basic partisanship, must be proof of racism in America II? Simple: Claim that “ObamaCare” was a slur, but now, by embracing the word himself, Obama’s taken the power back. If you find that unpersuasive, remember, decoding conservative criticism of O for alleged racial subtexts is a sort of parlor game on MSNBC. Previously identified dog-whistles include “IRS,” “Chicago,” and my favorite, “golf.” Usually the game ends with some variation of “and that’s why it’s racist,” but MHP’s argument has a whole second part to it. Consider this bar raised.

Legal Insurrection has a nice post tracking the origins of the word “ObamaCare,” including a claim from none other than Anthony Weiner that he coined the term himself. Which, if true, partially vindicates Harris-Perry: A wealthy white man really is responsible. By the way, as I write this, there are roughly 575,000 results for “RomneyCare” on Google. On this site alone, that word appears in more than 250 posts.

My liberal brother who follows jazz says the term “ObamaCare” is comparable to nicknames he’s heard for a female musician of “Cvnt Bassie” and for an Asian, “G00k Ellington”. Which, FYI, are quite the gender and racial slurs.

Liberals are a thin-skinned lot. There’s no other explanation.

tmgrant on December 9, 2013 at 11:30 AM

She may be right that many who use the term(at least initially) intended it as derogatory(although not racist). To that I say, who the F cares? Both sides do it. You think “Bush tax cuts” isn’t meant to incite people?

Besides, if Obamacare is so great as the Democrat/media complex keeps desperately trying to convince us, then why wouldn’t they be proud of that term?

Doughboy on December 9, 2013 at 11:30 AM

That argument only works if PPACA is a disastrous piece of cr#%. If it were a wonderful and much loved program, she’d be having “Obamacare” tattooed on her forehead.

HakerA on December 9, 2013 at 11:30 AM

Unfortunately for these progressives…Youtube lives forever.

“President Obama said “I like it,” in response to the term “ObamaCare” when used by his opponent Mitt Romney in the first presidential debate.

Romney was going through a list of what he’d cut from spending and said, “Is the program so critical it’s worth borrowing money from China to pay for it? And if not, I’ll get rid of it. ObamaCare’s on my list.”

Adding, “I apologize, Mr. President. I use that term with all respect, by the way.”

The president responded to the use of the phrase, and said, “I like it.”

Romney then followed up with a direct jab and promise, “Good. OK, good. So I’ll get rid of that.”

Obama has himself used the term ObamaCare on the campaign trail, often saying he doesn’t mind it.

“I do care,” he’ll typically say in stump speeches.

At first in the early days of the debate, it was used primarily by pundits, but has slowly moved into the political lexicon. The official name is the Affordable Health Care for America Act.

Later on while talking about entitlements, the president emphasized his affinity for the term, saying “and I have become fond of this term, ‘ObamaCare.’ ”

At one time the left didn’t like the term. They thought having Obama’s name attached to it would deter support by those on the right.

Then after it was signed into law, it became Obamacare. Obama is even quoted as saying he liked the term because he’s Obama and he cares.

It’s been the ACA since mid-October.

But Dems including the filthy lazy stupid rat-eared bastard own Obamacare completely.

How do moronic race-baiters like Harris Perry have any credibility remaining?

The mental gymnastics that they contort themselves into in vain efforts to push their progressive-fascist agenda and demean all those who aren’t as ‘enlightened’ as themselves are getting tiresome. Idiots like this embrace projection – and accuse others of the vile beliefs and tactics that they have no hesitation in using.

Heard the one about the president who pulled us out of the greatest recession since the Great Depression? Yep. Obamacare.

First off, we weren’t in a “great recession” when Democrats (including then-Senator Obama and his peers Pelosi, Reid, Biden Clinton, Kerry, etc.) took majority control of Washington, D.C. on January 3, 2007.

Take a look at what the incoming Democrat majority “inherited” from the outgoing Republican majority…

=============================================

BLS data from December 2006:
Unemployment Rate: 4.4%
Labor Force Participation Rate: 66.4%
Employment-Population Ratio: 63.4%

=============================================

Compare that to October 2009, after 34 months of Democrat majority control:
Unemployment: 10.0%
Labor Force Participation Rate: 65.0%
Employment-Population Ratio: 58.5%

=============================================

And compare that to November 2013, after another 49 months of Democrat majority control:
Unemployment: 7.0%
Labor Force Participation Rate: 63.0%
Employment-Population Ratio: 58.6%

=============================================

Note well that Democrats inherited an unemployment rate of 4.4% and drove it up to 10.0% (while simultaneously dropping the Labor Force Participation Rate by 1.4 points as additional people gave up hope of finding a job and left the workforce, and weren’t even counted in the reported unemployment number).

Note well that in the last four years, as the reported unemployment rate dropped 3 points from 10.0% to 7.0%, the percentage of the civilian noninstitutional population age 16+ who are actually employed only rose 0.1 of a point, from 58.5% to 58.6%. So, how did reported unemployment drop from 10% to 7% while employment was essentially unchanged? The answer is that even more MILLIONS of people gave up hope of finding a job and left the workforce, so that the Labor Force Participation Rate dropped 2 points from 65% to 63%.

As reported unemployment rate dropped 3 points from 10% to 7%, people didn’t go from “unemployed” to “employed”, they went from “unemployed” to “Not in Labor Force”.

So don’t feed us this crap about “the president who pulled us out of the greatest recession since the Great Depression?”

And the color of his skin has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with these facts, even though Melissa Harris-Perry can’t get past her own racism to see that. She is projecting her own racism on those who are different from her (i.e., conservatives).

OT….Anybody seen this story?

“In addition to the Regime’s well-publicized efforts to prevent Americans from assembling at monuments and memorials (heck, they even tried to prevent people from getting a look at Mount Rushmore from along the side of the highways!), they also suspended a number of religious services on military bases.

Father Ray Leonard is a Catholic priest who signed a contract with the Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base in Georgia. This contract basically made him the acting Catholic chaplain of the entire base. Yet, when went in to celebrate mass, the ultimate public form of Catholic religious worship, government officials actually told prevented him from doing so. In fact, he was told that he could not celebrate mass, even if it was done on a voluntary (and without pay) basis. Furthermore, he was also told that he could be arrested if this order was violated. This heinous act is clearly an abuse of governmental power and a clear attack conducted by the Obama Regime against the freedom of religion. It also left approximately 300 Catholic families on the base without access to the mass, unable to freely practice their religion, despite having the means available to do so.

It gets even crazier, however. Military authorities, who claimed they were acting on the orders of our community organizer in chief, President Obama, also locked Father Leonard out of his on-base office and the chapel. He was not even allowed to enter the chapel for the purpose of recovering the Holy Eucharist and other materials so he could perhaps make other arrangements for practicing his religion. This resulted in a number of religious celebrations and activities being canceled including daily and weekend mass, confessions, marriage preparation classes, baptisms, and prevented general spiritual guidance from being provided.

I am glad to report that Father Leonard is not one to simply lie down and accept this attack. Together with the Thomas Moore Law Center, he has filed a lawsuit against President Obama, claiming that he overstepped his bounds and basically violated the Constitution by preventing Father Leonard from performing his duties.

As you might imaging, Father Leonard was appalled by this abuse of governmental power. He compared it to his time in China, where the authorities prevent any public display of religion and disallow religious freedom….”

She didn’t know what to call the act.

She didn’t want to call it “Obamacare”, and she didn’t want to call it “The AFFORDABLE Healthcare Act” (presumably because she knows its not affordable)!

Back in the ’90′s we were discussing HillaryCare, and Hillary is a wealthy white woman. Wasn’t the name ObamaCare adapted from HillaryCare?

But maybe it’s racist to blame Obama for the Affordable Care Act, because Obama probably didn’t read it before he signed it. We should call it PelosiCare, after the other wealthy white woman who had to pass it before we could read it.

During the 2012 campaign, Obama liked the name ObamaCare, and used it to claim that “Obama cares”. Now that people are losing their health insurance and paying high premiums because of the 2010 health care law, Obama suddenly doesn’t want his name on it.

I see a warm and fuzzy ad by AARP–or maybe it’s a PSA from the feds on Medicare enrollment–with whistling in the background, and it refers to “the new health law.”

I tried to find it quickly online, but I had no luck.

That these people… The MSNBC anchors, the HA trolls, etc… are so absolutely silly bothers me more than that they promote evil.

If Hades is, as some have said, a place where you endure what you hate most, it won’t be a burning pit for me, but a cold, windy and muddy place filled with the jabberings of silly people.

Simple: Claim that “ObamaCare” was a slur, but now, by embracing the word himself, Obama’s taken the power back.

That’s okay. It was Obamacare when the massively epic failure of it was on in it’s potential stage. Now that it has proven to be not only a massively epic failure of implementation but also revealed as a history making public screwjob, I’m starting to call it Obamacaresnot, though I’m also up for calling it Demscarenot since they’ve started defending this historic screwjob they’ve foisted on the Amercian people.

Everything else he touched, failed.

Even the Ds now say that he’s full of crap on “terrorism is over”.

His foreign and domestic policies are a devastation to the land and the world.

obama’care’ is the biggest failure.

The guy is a charlatanic destroyer.

No wonder the latrine-rats are highly activated.

She better check in with her network….

No, if they wanted to call it something to “diminish” Obama’s “accomplishments”, they would have given it a more truthful name, like “ObamaDoesn’tCare”.

BTW, on the entire racist meme, haven’t the little boys and little girls cried, “Wolf,” a million times too many?
