Waterloo: Obama now below 40 percent approval on nearly every issue polled

posted at 12:01 pm on December 4, 2013 by Guy Benson

A handy companion piece to AP’s item  from yesterday on Obama’s RCP job approval average dipping below 40 percent for the first time.  You know what this presidency needs?  More Obamacare speeches.  Crash:

Barack Obama’s overall job approval rating has fallen over the past year, and he gets low ratings for his handling of number of foreign policy issues. His job rating is below 40% for nine of 10 foreign policy issues tested, including his overall handling of the nation’s foreign policy….Views of Obama’s job performance in handling foreign policy issues are mostly on par with ratings of his performance on some domestic issues. The survey finds that 37% approve of the way Obama is handling health care and just 31% approve of his handling of the economy.

Some additional data on the foreign policy questions — an area that was once (somehow) a public opinion refuge for this administration:

O’s pulling a robust 34/56 rating on overall foreign policy, 32/60 on immigration, and 37/53 on handling Iran. Nothing that a quick jaunt to Tehran can’t fix, right?  Wrong. Americans, quite understandably, don’t trust the Iranian regime’s intentions by an overwhelming margin. Self-identified Democrats are the lone exception, splitting roughly evenly on the question.  Also notable is the public’s total reversal in assessing Obama’s relative strength on the world stage:

By a double-digit margin, Americans now say the Obama administration’s global posture is too weak. I can’t imagine why. Perhaps the president ought to start reminding people about the Bin Laden raid and bragging about how he’s “really good at killing people” a little louder.  I’ll leave you with Pew’s video summary of their findings.  Your pull quote: “The share of the public saying [that the US is less 'important and powerful' today than it was ten years ago] has jumped 12 points since 2009″ to an all time high. Smart power:

It’s the Limbaugh Theorem on steroids. He’s not only complaining about a problem as if he hasn’t been the President for the last 5 years. But he’s conveniently ignoring the fact that this problem has grown exponentially on his watch.

The survey finds that 37% approve of the way Obama is handling health care

They should take a poll that ONLY asks 2 groups: 1) you have a pre-2014 health ins plan aka the sub-standard type or 2) you have tried to PURCHASE a plan at healthcare.gov….

You know what this presidency needs? More Obamacare speeches.

There is a flaw in this logic. Obama doesn’t give speeches, he gives the same speech over and over again no matter the occasion or audience.

He’ll say let me be clear a couple dozen times (though he never is)

He’ll say that there is no pride of ownership. He’ll take good ideas from anybody including Republicans.

He’ll claim that Obamacare is offering millions of Americans affordable quality healthcare better than what they had cancelled on them.

The only thing that he says that is true is that nobody is madder than he is.

I remember when I was younger and getting started. I honestly don’t see the same opportunities I had and all I did was make the best decision I could at the time it was called for. The younger ones trying to build their lives are getting creamed. And they voted for it.

In less than 10 years no one will cop to voting for Obama. Blacks will be at a distinct disadvantage because everyone will know they were totally betrayed by their myopic racial bias. The white liberals will just lie.

That would mean he was losing the high-education elites that work in public and private. Those people are unaffected by everything he’s put in place.

So until we get some bills that force universities or SCM employees to drop everyone into the exchanges, his basement is around 35%, give or take.

Because speeches make everything better.

Because speeches solve problems.

Because speeches are the happy sauce that makes everything good.

Dr. K had a good point on Special Report last night. Among other things that could have been done, in the 2,000 page piece of legislation, Obamacare does nothing–nothing–about lawsuit abuse. Why? Because the Dems didn’t want to offend the trial lawyers.

That aside, I noticed that several years ago, in a big speech that Obama gave on healthcare, there was a lot of discussion dealing with whether the Dems’ number on uninsured included illegal immigrants. At the time, Dems usually cited 45 to 50 million uninsured. Evidently, to allay concerns that illegals would be covered, Obama used a 31 million uninsured figure. I noticed that in his remarks yesterday that Obama has increased that number to 41 million. Where’d the extra 10 million come from?

Beyond that, a podcast I listened to last night reminded me that the 31 million figure itself was completely bogus. I simply can’t understand why Republicans aren’t in front of cameras screaming about the dishonest discussion leading to the enactment of Obamacare. Obama has turned the health care and health insurance industries upside down when something far more limited could have been done to address the problem of the 10 to 12 million people who are actually uninsurable.

juliesa on December 4, 2013 at 12:54 PM

“Signed up” meaning they chose a plan or were routed to medicare. Not that they enrolled. They have to pay to do that.

What numbers have to be reached before Impeachment starts? Mu guess is under a third with a small buffer, about the mid 20′s Thats only another 10 points or less then the drop in the last 60 days.

All the other scandals had their marks that made them some what questionable and still unquestionable to them selves. This ACA show incompetence, wast, deceit and illegal nature of this Obama administration on all levels of government it is the collimation of all that is wrongs.

jpcpt03 on December 4, 2013 at 1:09 PM

The drop in popularity is temporary.

People will come ’round when they’ve finally giveen zer0care–I mean Obamacare a chance and can see how really, really good it will be for one and all.

So – there is NO comparison to mmmmBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH!! in this Post – which can only mean one thing:

Obama is Lower In Approval than mmmBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH ever was!

…..otherwise, there would be lines of “Welllll – he no Lower than mmmBOOOOOOOSH was!…”

This is truly a racist nation, especially those Millennials

J_Crater on December 4, 2013 at 1:32 PM

Obama sends Biden to China with a war brewing and stays home giving speeches to boost his poll numbers. Criminal.

kcewa on December 4, 2013 at 12:52 PM

It’s worse than that. He said young Chinese should question their government. The Chinese government kinda takes a dim view of that.

Happy Nomad on December 4, 2013 at 1:42 PM

Waterloo: Obama now below 40 percent approval on nearly every issue polled

Apparently, polls are this year’s new hate crime.

M240H on December 4, 2013 at 1:44 PM

And maybe wrestle a bear or pull trout out of a stream with his bare hands? I don’t know, fine physical specimen or not, trying to out-Putin Putin is a tough act.

Happy Nomad on December 4, 2013 at 12:17 PM

Part of me still longs for what could have been…

Could you imagine a Putin-Palin summit in Alaska? …hunting grizzlies? Damn me if that wouldn’t have generated some respect among the old Ruskies… even their women can take down bears… 8)

Schadenfreude on December 4, 2013 at 12:48 PM

Oh, please do, PLAN.

Their Flanker clone does a ski-jump T/O from their ex-Russian light carrier, roughly equivalent to the British Invincible-class “through-deck cruisers”, somewhat bigger than our never-built “Sea Control Ship”. (The Spanish Navy’s Principe De Asturias is a clone of the latter design.)

The thing is, they’re trying to use a non-V/STOL heavy fighter to do a maneuver intended to be done with a light V/STOL, namely the Harrier.

To put this in perspective, their SOP is to try to recreate the Doolittle Raid B-25 launches from the old Hornet every time. With a jet with lousy low-speed aerodynamics that goes 18 tons empty. (The “Mitch” was about 10 tons dry. And its short T/O speed at MTO was right around the Flanker’s full-load stall speed.)

If they think they can “control” any stretch of ocean with a Rube Goldberg setup like this, with minimal escorts, they must be smoking something stronger than The One is.

Meanwhile, I suspect the Russians are still laughing their a$$es off at selling the PLAN that white elephant.

If it were any real use, does anyone seriously believe that Putin would have let them get their grubby little protuberances on it?

Good news for Obama is that MSNBC’s Martin Bashir will now be at home full-time and can take part in these polls…that should help him out in the “favorable” column.

I found one of the few remaining supporters of this administration.

Don’t worry, she’s white, so, no racism here.
