New Mark Pryor ad: If God can forgive me for voting for ObamaCare, why can’t you?

posted at 11:21 am on December 4, 2013 by Allahpundit

I’m paraphrasing, natch, but there’s a reason why this ad is heavy on human imperfection and verrry light on party identification. Pryor’s rightly worried about how the Democratic agenda’s playing at home in Arkansas, and by “agenda” I don’t mean raising the minimum wage. Odds that a future ad will include the phrase “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone”: 95 percent.

Actually, O-Care’s only half his problem. The other half, Sean Trende argues, is that all signs over the past year point to an even steeper than expected drop-off for Democrats in 2014.

Taken together, of the 170 contested elections that have been held this year for state legislative seats, for federal office, or for statewide office, the Democrat ran ahead of President Obama’s 2012 showing in only 27 races. By contrast, the Democrat ran more than 10 points behind the president’s showing in 47 races. On average, Democrats ran 5.9 percentage points behind the president, with a median drop-off of 6.4. Even if we knock a point off of these numbers to account for the Chris Christie effect in many of these races, that’s still a big decline.

What does this mean for 2014? Possibly nothing. There is a lot of football left to be played, the president’s job approval rating could rally significantly, the Democrats could become enthused, and drop-off could become a non-issue.

But if that doesn’t happen, Democrats have a real headache coming on. Let’s assume they can expect a drop-off of four to five points from Obama’s 2012 performance, all other things being equal. Twenty-eight House Democrats occupy seats where Obama won less than 55 percent of the vote. More disturbingly for Mr. Jackson’s Party, 13 Senate seats fall into this category. This is consistent with what we’ve seen in polling: Democrats putting up terrible numbers in places like Louisiana, Arkansas and North Carolina, while races in states like Michigan and Iowa are looking surprisingly tight.

Bottom line: If the GOP can’t beat this stiff, who also voted for amnesty, in a conservative state with a Harvard Law grad turned decorated veteran as its nominee, it should disband. Exit question via David Freddoso, who notes that Republicans, of course, have played this game too: Who’s witnessing for whom here?

How do you think we got this way? Our school system has been taken over by the government and since that time there has been a steady decline in our education system. We have teachers that can’t even talk good English teaching our children …. not only that this is one way a socialist government begins its take over a country. They also have taken over the News services, and now the Healthcare system.
This Obama-Care will never be eradicated. It’s here to stay and no matter who we vote for or who’s in charge it is a done deal and there is nothing we can do about it. How long now have we’ve tried to change things for the better. Thinking that a Republican President could help turn things around. We had the White house for 8 straight years with bush and what happened? They are all in this together and the only thing that may help is a REVOLUTION, but by that time the army will be against us as well. If any of you know your bible, you know what I’m talking about.

Good point. Dems hate God.

Sept 2012:

The floor of the Democratic National Convention erupted Wednesday over a sudden move to restore to the platform a reference to “God” and recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital — after heavy criticism from Republicans for initially omitting them.

Democrats, though, were hardly in agreement over the reversal.

A large and loud group of delegates shouted “no” as convention chairman, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, called for the vote late Wednesday afternoon. Villaraigosa had to call for the vote three times before ruling that the “ayes” had it. Many in the crowd booed after he determined the language would be restored.

Forgiveness is possible, but that does not negate the consequences of that sin. Let’s say you sin with a victim of Obamacare ‘lady of the night’. You can be forgiven by your wife, but you still have herpes.

Warning: “This law will make healthcare prices actually skyrocket! Availability will be an issue! The IPAB is a death panel!”

Mark Pryor & Democrats (2012) – “This law will be fantastic!”

          Genesis 47:13-27

RECENT VIRGINIA CHURCH SERVICE – STIMULUS SERMON

I would love to give the Pastor of this predominantly black church in Virginia three cheers. This guy is obviously a leader. Perhaps we should each decide who our real leader is… It is amazing to see that very little has changed in 4,000 years.

Good morning, brothers and sisters; it’s always a delight to see the pews crowded on Sunday morning, and so eager to get into God’s Word. Turn with me in your Bibles, if you will, to the 47th chapter of Genesis. We’ll begin our reading at verse 13, and go through verse 27.

Brother Ray, would you stand and read that great passage for us?… (reading)… Thank you for that fine reading, Brother Ray. So we see that economic hard times fell upon Egypt , and the people turned to the government of Pharaoh to deal with this for them.  And Pharaoh nationalized the grain harvest, and placed the grain in great storehouses that he had built. So the people brought their money to Pharaoh, like a great tax increase, and gave it all to him willingly in return for grain. And this went on until their money ran out, and they were hungry again.

So when they went to Pharaoh after that, they brought their livestock – their cattle, their horses, their sheep, and their donkey – to barter for grain, and verse 17 says that only took them through the end of that year. But the famine wasn’t over, was it?  So the next year, the people came before Pharaoh and admitted they had nothing left, except their land and their own lives. “There is nothing left in the sight of my lord but our bodies and our land.  Why should we die before your eyes, both we and our land?  Buy us and our land for food, and we with our land will be servants to Pharaoh.” So they surrendered their homes, their land, and their real estate to Pharaoh’s government, and then sold themselves into slavery to him, in return for grain.

What can we learn from this, brothers and sisters?

That turning to the government instead of to God to be our provider in hard times only leads to slavery?

Yes… That the only reason government wants to be our provider is to also become our master?

Yes. After Jacob and Joseph passed on, and the Jews began to drift away from their GOD, even they too became slaves in the land of Egypt.

I also tell you a great truth today, and an ominous one.

We see the same thing happening today - the government today wants to “share the wealth” once again, to take it from us and redistribute it back to us.

It wants to take control of healthcare, just as it has taken control of education, and ration it back to us, and when government rations it, then government decides who gets it, and how much, and what kind.

And if we go along with it, and do it willingly, then we will wind up no differently than the people in Egypt did four thousand years ago – as slaves to the government, and as slaves to their leaders.

What Mr. Obama’s government is doing now is no different from what Pharaoh’s government did then, and it will end the same. And a lot of people like to call Mr. Obama a “Messiah,” don’t they?

Is he a Messiah? A savior?

Didn’t the Egyptians say, after Pharaoh made them his slaves, “You have saved our lives; may it please my lord, we will be servants to Pharaoh”? Well, I tell you this – I know the Messiah; the Messiah is a friend of mine; and Mr. OBAMA IS NO MESSIAH!

No, brothers and sisters, if Mr. Obama is a character from the Bible, then he is Pharaoh. Bow with me in prayer, if you will…

Lord, You alone are worthy to be served, and we rely on You, and You alone. We confess that the government is not our deliverer, and never rightly will be. We read in the eighth chapter of 1 Samuel, when Samuel warned the people of what a ruler would do, where it says “And in that day you will cry out because of your king, whom you have chosen for yourselves, but the LORD will not answer you in that day…”

And Lord, we acknowledge that day has come. We cry out to you because of the ruler that we have chosen for ourselves as a nation. Lord, we pray for this nation. We pray for revival, and we pray for deliverance from those who would be our masters. Give us hearts to seek You and hands to serve You, and protect Your people from the atrocities of a new Pharaoh’s government. In God We Trust…

And all of God’s people said amen!

The voters, on the other hand, forewarned you about the consequences of your poor judgment, and yet you persisted in believing some pretty non-credible people instead of your voters.

Since you have not repented of your poor judgment, nor proven that you have learned from it, expect to reap the benefit of their other forewarning: you might want to ask ol’ Barack for a pre-retirement gig somewhere out of Arkansas.

Somehow I doubt that Arkansans will grant you a peaceful retirement in the Ouachitas if they are suffering from rationed health care while watching you enjoying all the health bennies you voted yourself.

Herb on December 4, 2013 at 11:47 AM

I think the last Democrat President who actually tried to “walk the walk” as a Christian was Harry S Truman…

The most important business in this Nation–or any other nation, for that matter-is raising and training children. If those children have the proper environment at home, and educationally, very, very few of them ever turn out wrong. I don’t think we put enough stress on the necessity of implanting in the child’s mind the moral code under which we live.

The fundamental basis of this Nation’s law was given to Moses on the Mount. The fundamental basis of our Bill of Rights comes from the teachings which we get from Exodus and St. Matthew, from Isaiah and St. Paul. I don’t think we emphasize that enough these days.

If we don’t have the proper fundamental moral background, we will finally wind up with a totalitarian government which does not believe in rights for anybody except the state.

- President Harry S. Truman
February 15, 1950

Because our nation as a whole no longer teaches the proper fundamental moral background and the fundamental basis of this Nation’s law, we are getting closer and closer to ending up with a totalitarian government which does not believe in rights for anybody except the state.

We can forgive you without you keeping your office. IF you are a Christian, you also understand that you must accept responsibility and right the wrong you committed… so when are you either 1) working to repeal Obamacare or 2) resigning from office?

dominigan on December 4, 2013 at 1:37 PM

Mark Pryor will be the first Senate Dem to call for full repeal of O’Care. It will be his last desperate play to keep his job.

Texas Zombie on December 4, 2013 at 1:12 PM

IF Dirty Harry will allow him to do so. If he ticks off Dirty Harry, or calls for repeal prematurely, there might not be a K Street job in Pryor’s future.

matthew8787 on December 4, 2013 at 1:39 PM

The whole ad is as pathetic as Clinton’s juvenile admonition, post-Lewinsky, that we “are not to judge.”

When politicians face defeat or prison, they suddenly find God. They used to drum up a health scare, too, but that subject won’t help Pryor.

Say goodnight, Mark. No one is questioning your intentions. We are questioning your rancid judgment.

matthew8787 on December 4, 2013 at 1:44 PM

As a Christian believer and minister this makes me sick that he would use the “Bible Card”! Is he on record last year for lambasting his party when they booed God during their convention? What was his reaction then? After all he wasn’t up for re-election at the time! The Arkansas voters demand to know!

fbcmusicman on December 4, 2013 at 1:45 PM

Well allow me to retort by quoting Machete:

“God forgives… I don’t.”

Skywise on December 4, 2013 at 1:46 PM

God actually has different levels for which we will qualify for position in Heaven. The least of us on Earth are said to be the highest of those in Heaven for instance.

So, what this tells me Mark Pryor, that while he forgives you, he does not forget what you have done, and hence, he will give you a new station in heaven, if that is in fact where you will go.
We too should evaluate what you have done and give you a new station here on Earth based on what you have done.

matthew8787 on December 4, 2013 at 1:39 PM

I don’t know about that. I think self preservation will outweigh Dirty Harry’s whims. When Pryor loses he can go back to private legal practice in AR or go run a Christian nonprofit or parachurch organization. Even though he is exploiting it for a campaign ad, I do believe his faith is real based on what I have observed over the years.

Texas Zombie on December 4, 2013 at 1:47 PM

This is revolting.

Has he indicated his repentance by publicly stating he will work with senators like Cruz and Lee to repeal ObamaCare?

Has he indicated his repentance by publicly denouncing abortion and the war on Christians inherent in ObamaCare?

Has he indicated his repentance by publicly denouncing the fact that ObamaCare subtly works to undermine marriage by being more expensive for married couples?

Has he indicated his repentance by publicly denouncing the manipulative, sly and evil way that ObamaCare was passed?

You get my drift.

LOL! God has different levels for those who go to heaven? What? God has a former congressman/voted for Obamacare section?

Me thinks you read too much Dante Alighieri…

Forgiving somebody for being an idiot is something I’m willing to do.

Rewarding somebody for being an idiot (by giving them my vote) is something I’m not willing to do.

Congressman Pryor . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

When you begin to bear fruit that accompanies true repentance, you will be forgiven. But forgiveness is not equal to a restoration our TRUST in your judgement, and ability to do the job.

Bobby Bible-Thumper is confused.

One XY male with AIS (eg, has lady-parts) likes boys.
The other XY male with AIS likes girls!

Which one should Bobby Bible-Thumper throw the proverbial Chicken Sandwich at? He doesn’t want to damn the wrong one to hell!

Nor does he want to be open-minded like those lovable Episcopalians or Lutherans. Those Christians are baaaaaad.

Can you help Bobby Bible-Thumper out?

But astonerii‘s words represent the kind of theological discourse that you can be wrong about, and it won’t land you in the place prepared for Satan and his host of fallen angels.

Funny how there’s no God, heaven, or hell, yet you know all about what they can’t be/do.

Matthew 10:15, “Truly I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city.”

John 19:11, “…for this reason he who delivered Me to you has the greater sin.”

Matthew 23:14, “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you devour widows’ houses, and for a pretense you make long prayers; therefore you will receive greater condemnation.”

Where do you think Dante got the idea, genius?
