Obama on ObamaCare: There’s no way we’re repealing this boondoggle while I’m president, America

posted at 6:41 pm on December 3, 2013 by Allahpundit

Is this really the message Democrats wanted him to put out today, when news outlets are filled with stories about rate shock, glitchy enrollments, and catastrophic security lapses? I thought the headline was supposed to be “ObamaCare is wonderful,” not “There’s nothing you can do.” Good lord. This feels like a communique from Two-Face to Gotham city:

nbc
bb
bbc
dm

The clip shows him engaged in a common lie, that there are no conservative alternatives to ObamaCare, but that’s probably his best play from a weak hand. If you think something should be done about the health-care system, well, ObamaCare qualifies as “something.” Even if it all goes to hell next year, at least he tried, right? Maybe that’ll save a Senate seat or two for Democrats. He also assured his audience today that O-Care will help reduce the number of uninsured in America, which might eventually be true but surely isn’t true at the moment. As Jim Geraghty notes, the number of people forced out of their old plans and onto the exchanges by HHS’s ObamaCare regs greatly exceeds the number of new enrollees right now, and even some substantial segment of the latter is unhappy with the terms of the new coverage they’ve obtained. Even now, after the media’s finally awakened from its coma and begun to clue people in to the fact that ObamaCare is basically a wealth transfer from the healthy and middle class to the sick and lower class, he refuses to sell it that way. He wants a gold star for shifting the former into pricey “comprehensive” plans that they never asked for in the first place. You’re welcome, America.

Never forget, for all his hyperventilating about the junk insurance that Americans were supposedly stuck with before the dawn of this boondoggle, his idea of improving health care for the poor is to expand the junkiest insurance of all.

Realist on December 3, 2013 at 6:54 PM

Well before that, my friend.

All it takes is keeping the House and gaining the Senate in 2014. If Obamacare continues on its current trajectory and the Congress calls for repeal (really substantive change like not making old people pay for health insurance that includes maternity services). The filthy lazy shiftless bastard wouldn’t dare veto.

Like Clinton and welfare reform. He acted as if Congress had a gun to his head when he signed it. And now claims that it was all his idea.

Happy Nomad on December 3, 2013 at 6:57 PM

Stoic Patriot on December 3, 2013 at 6:51 PM

Working better than we have now is not saying much. It didn’t function anything like a real market with employer provided coverage and third party payers. And it’s going to make repeal much more popular and achievable if you have a consumer and patient centered reform ready to go.

Mark1971 on December 3, 2013 at 6:57 PM

He already said he wouldn’t sign the best alternative the Republicans came up with, Repeal. So the Republicans should take a week, when they return in January, putting out a free-market solution a day for 2 weeks. Obama will negotiate on Obamacare just like he negotiated on the shut-down. Wait until he tries to bail out the insurance companies without going through Congress, that should be exciting.

Walmart today announced that Cyber Monday 2013 was the biggest online sales day in its history. The five-day period from Thanksgiving to Cyber Monday is the highest five-day stretch in online sales for the retailer to date, and Walmart.com processed more than one billion page views during that period.

Obama on ObamaCare: There’s no way we’re repealing this boondoggle while I’m president, America

I knew he’d say this. Because he couldn’t stand the personal failure, the shame, the humiliation of losing. That’s for others, for those he defeats. Not for him.

This has NOTHING to do with what’s good for the country, and ALL about Obama personally. It reminds me a bit of LBJ thinking of Vietnam in terms of his own legacy. He didn’t want to be the first US President to lose a war.

Obama, the narcissist, can’t stand that he was wrong. That’s all there is to it. He might as well be Pol Pot or Hitler as their countries disintegrated because of the decisions they made. Obama will never change his mind.

Fortunately, this won’t end in the deaths of millions of innocents. Just a lot of needless suffering, as a direct result of Obama’s eponymous program — ObamaCare.

albill on December 3, 2013 at 7:30 PM

From a three page essay at Politico—-by Trudy Lieberman

Is it the news media’s job to correct misinformation and spin from one side or the other—to aid victims of the message wars? This fall, NBC White House correspondent Chuck Todd opined on Morning Joe that “Republicans have successfully messaged against it,” referring to the ACA, but he disagreed with those who argue the media should educate the public about it. “What I always love is people say, ‘Well, it’s you folks fault in the media,’” Todd said. “No, it’s the president of the United States’s fault for not selling it.”

Perhaps that explains a lot about why the message war has raged on without better media reporting. Do other journalists agree with Todd? Have today’s journalistic conventions—faux balance and split-second analysis based on opinion—become the norm? Now that the website seems to be more or less working, will the media move on to the next political food fight, or will journalists do a better job explaining to consumers how they can actually use it to make informed decisions about their health care?

As the events of the last few weeks have shown, if the media doesn’t see its job as setting the record straight, we will continue to have the kind of journalism the late Columbia University Journalism School professor James Carey described two decades ago: as “more like observing talk-show gossip and petty manipulation than bearing witness to the truth.” Carey would have found no better example than the coverage of the Affordable Care Act.

This is, of course, double-speak for “we sure didn’t assist the president very well on this, did we?” Ms. Lieberman appears to think that when Conservatives and conservative media points out FACTS that ObamaCare is a total economic disaster, (and a Federal Government power-grab of the health insurance industry), it is “more like observing talk-show gossip and petty manipulation than bearing witness to the truth.”

The Liberal Media won’t report the truth! And neither has this administration been truthful to the American public. Obama’s blaming Republicans for not “being on board” to promote this monstrous socialist disaster is political fodder for the Democrats. And Republicans do have an alternative—full repeal and replace with real free market health care reforms, not more Marxist wealth distribution.

“Is it the news media’s job to correct misinformation and spin from one side or the other—to aid victims of the message wars?”

This is the narrative of the liberal media, (and Lieberman)—they still don’t know what the media’s job is supposed to be when it (the facts), go against their liberal progressive agenda. And the victims are every American.
