Grim milestone: Obama’s job approval now below 40 percent in RCP poll average

posted at 4:01 pm on December 3, 2013 by Allahpundit

Emphasis on “average.” He’s dipped below 40 in individual polls before but never in so many at the same time that the rolling average among them brought him into the thirties. Until today.

Luckily, Paul Krugman says ObamaCare’s destined to be a smash hit so this will all turn around soon.

rcp

That graph shows his job approval as of early this morning, when he was at 39.9 percent. The big mystery: Would Gallup’s new approval-rating data, released every weekday at 1 p.m. ET, nudge him back over the 40 percent threshold? Nope — he ended up dropping a point in Gallup too (and gaining one in disapproval), leaving him ever so slightly below 39.9 at the moment. If there’s a bounce coming from the big Healthcare.gov revamp, it hasn’t arrived yet.

Since we’re all about counting monthly numbers lately, let’s do a little counting for The One. Play around with RCP’s data tracker and you’ll find that his job approval was surprisingly consistent between early August, when he edged downward from -3.5 to around -7.5 net approval, to the beginning of November. A lot happened in that period — his Syria “red line” nonsense, the shutdown, and a full month’s worth of ObamaCare implementation. On September 1st, he was at -5.8. A month later, on October 1st, he was steady at -6.1. A month after that, having weathered a storm of bad press over Healthcare.gov and public irritation over the shutdown, he was surprisingly stable at -8.2. By December 1st, the bottom had dropped out at -15.5. At some point in the past few weeks, a sizable chunk of Obama/ObamaCare supporters, most of them surely Democrats, simply gave up. That’s his target audience for today’s O-Care pep rally, I take it — disaffected Dems who want the law to work or who wanted something more statist but were willing to settle for half a loaf for now. If he can get them back, it’ll give congressional Democrats a shot of confidence that the base will be there for them next year. If he can’t, well, there’s always that state visit to Tehran for “legacy” purposes.

Exit question: Is O-Care already in survival mode?

Boehner, Cantor and Ryan are working very hard at bailing out Democrats before the midterms. Passing amnesty would give Obama a gigantic 2nd term domestic policy achievement 6 months before the midterms. It would be a huge boost to democrat enthusiasm and a punch in the gut to the GOP base. Allahpundit has to see this if he is objective about it.

I agree. I think the numbers will settle around 30%-35%. I do not think the numbers could sink below 30% under any circumstances – the hard left (the rich and super-rich, the communists, those who live off welfare, and the ethnic vote) is never going to abandon this guy.

All I can think of is that they’re so afraid of a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party wave, and are so desperate to kill it, that they’re willing to sabotage their party’s electoral chances.

Amnesty will cause Texas to go blue and massive electoral catastrophe in 2016, because by then the illegals will largely be registered to vote.

Notwithstanding the commie Democrats hung themselves out with lies and fraud on this ObamaCareless, they will do even more to hold the U.S. back with the lies and fraud of supporting the Climate Change CO2 (a plant food) lie, and more to cause more voters to walk away.

Only those who walk away from the commie Democrats will find Republican Speaker of the House John Bohner (The Loss Leader) blocking the path to victory as he hires amnesty shills like Rebecca Talent to help him slip an amnesty by with the same kind of lies the commies like Obama use.

The Two Party Evil Money Cult will cut U.S. with any knife handy.

To be Clintonian, it depends on what your meaning of survival is.

The Dems have pulled out the duct tape, bailing wire, and chewing gum and are hoping to keep enough of it together to get them to November 5th 2014. Even as both engines are on fire, they fuel gauge is almost on empty, and the pilot is a lazy shiftless rat-eared loser.

-He wants to work with Republicans.

-The website is working.

etc, All of it lies.

And now we get three weeks of daily propaganda about Obamacare with the parasite of the day feature! Yea us!

Great expression. I hadn’t heard that one before.

Out of air speed, and out of ideas- I would suggest that Obamacare is on a long glide slope. They know it will fail but they are just hoping against hope that it doesn’t happen until after the mid-term elections.

Happy Nomad on December 3, 2013 at 5:13 PM

I suspect the Democrats are hoping that the glide characteristics are like an ASK21….

…but in reality, it shares the glide characteristics of the old F-104 Starfighter…

Basically, Obama is out of air speed, clearly out of ideas, and rapidly running out of altitude. He’s about to find out that the laws of physics and gravity are as inviolable as the laws of economics and human nature.

We haven’t even seen the first 10% of the major problems from this law yet…and ignoring them, like security, will not make them go away.

So he is down to the hard left, the far left, the cronies, the corrupt, the rich, the looters, the moochers, the non-working/non-earning poor, LIVs, and Democrats. And the place he is losing support is among the last two, with LIVs slowly waking up to the ‘hey, I have to do what, now? but I didn’t vote for that‘.

There is a lot of cross-over in some of those categories…

With the ‘Rats running from the sinking Obamacare ship, don’t even bother with immigration. Hispanics are losing their health insurance like everyone else.

Republicans need to campaign as follows: “If you think 5.6 million people losing their health insurance is bad, wait until next year when 50 or 100 million people lose their health insurance due to the employer mandate. Give us a Senate majority and we’ll repeal Obamacare for good, and work out a free-market-based system that works for everyone.”

These numbers show he’s now losing non-white males who work in the private sector because they’ve heard the murmurs of the oncoming coverage dump by their employers.

It’s really simple. Anything close to 35% means he’s near the core of his supporters; public sector, education and health services workers who are predominantly black females.

That’s who he’s spent his entire life patronizing, so he knows how to push their buttons. They in turn will shame or guilt people for abandoning Barry and lie their arses off if they’re polled.

So if he can get his numbers to trend ever so slightly north, then the media will carry his water again.

That’s the real endgame.
