House Dem: We must pass immigration reform to save Obamacare, or something

posted at 11:31 am on November 18, 2013 by Guy Benson

The only way to salvage one colossal government failure is to embark on another massive government adventure.  Obviously.  Fun how this works, isn’t it?

Rep. Jared Polis said Friday the key problem with health care right now is that illegal immigrants aren’t included in Obamacare, and said part of the solution is to pass a bill granting them citizenship rights. The House is debating a GOP-written bill that would allow Americans to keep their health plans that have been canceled under Obamacare, but Mr. Polis, a Colorado Democrat, said the chamber should instead be looking at ways to make sure everyone in the country is covered by the Affordable Care Act — including illegal immigrants.

The Obama administration has done such an exceptional job of implementing and administering Obamacare (which they had huge political incentives not to screw up) that the American people really ought to trust Team O to devise and execute an effective immigration overhaul, too.  I’m sure they’d skillfully and faithfully enforce various border security measures, even if the president and his partisan allies find them politically unpalatable…right?  It’s. The. Law., and all that.  And surely they would never dream of repeatedly lying to our faces about how their proposal would, or would not, work.  They’d marshal all the necessary votes in a transparent and honorable manner.  This White House exudes competence and credibility;  forward to the next big thing!  And if by some strange coincidence that next big thing were to crash, burn, and betray the promises upon which it was sold, the resulting blow would at least be softened by Obama’s inevitable surprise and frustration. He knows everything, and yet he knows nothing at all.  I’ve made little secret of my support for some form of comprehensive immigration reform, but accomplishing that policy end requires trust, good will and follow-through.  President Obama is deeply deficient on all counts.  As I suggested back in July, the Obamacare trainwreck may have also flattened immigration reform — at least for the foreseeable future.  And for that, our president has no one to blame but himself.  Not that he will, of course.  One final note: The Democrat who floated this hilarious amnesty-for-Obamacare scheme is the same winner who sought an Obamacare waiver for his affluent district:

One of President Obama’s most ardent liberal supporters has defected from Obamacare. Rep. Jared Polis, D-Boulder, told a Colorado health policy think tank that Obamacare premiums will be too expensive for some of the wealthiest addresses in America – ski resorts like Breckenridge and Keystone. … “We will be encouraging a waiver,” Polis told Health Policy Solutions in a story that ran today. “It will be difficult for Summit County residents to become insured. For the vast majority, it’s too high a price to pay.”

Now seems like as good a time as any to re-up this clip of a Colorado Obamacare ‘navigator,’ who agrees with his assessment:

“Thus far, everybody has taken a look at the rates and they’ve walked out the door. There’s sticker shock. They just can’t afford it.”

Polis’ out-of-the-box solution to the “Affordable” Care Act’s soaring individual and national costs?  Expand Obamacare even further to cover people who are here illegally.  More government.  Say what you will about Democrats, they certainly are creative and unpredictable.  Please draft this bill, guys.  Let’s have a vote.

Illegals already have citizenship. In Mexico, or where ever else they came from. So if they want citizenship, all they need to do is go home.

That would be why they want amnesty so badly. They’re reaching the end of their rope and need to import new voters.

Doomberg on November 18, 2013 at 11:38 AM

It is a lie this amnesty all of it.

More like 20 million.

Every elected official knows that every required low bid contract goes to the contractor who pays the illegals the least and hires the most.
That is the only way they win the bids.

Once more “They all know” it is a lie.

So the “Two Party Evil Money Cult” lies to U.S. all.

Use your brains. The last bail out on the mortgage loan deal.

You have existing homes at prices with American living wages in the cost/price.
Then D. R. Horton Homes LLC, worlds largest builder builds all his homes with the illegal Mexican wage slaves at Mexican wages of $5.00 per hour, no ins. no SS, no income tax.

Then what happens to the value of all the homes.

Down, the loans then go bad and you pay.

Amnesty will cost you your freedom, your liberty, the value of your dollar, and the two party evil money cult know this now.

Wake up.

I can’t say what I would like to say about Dems in family-friendly terms. Putting immigration into the toxic Obamacare mix (with some set of lies about financial benefits from the illegals actually purchasing through the exchanges) is just silly partisan squirrel throwing.

Immigration ‘reform’ (not admitting an need for it) is dead because Republicans have observed that the REB will not enforce law or portions of laws that he does not personally approve of, and he will just make up new laws that he does approve of by Executive Order or by fiddling with the regulation-writing bureaucracy that he manages.

This should also be the case for any new significant legislation on any topic. Nothing big can be done until he leaves the White House and someone that respects the Constitution and the Presidential Oath moves in.

thuja on November 18, 2013 at 12:28 PM

This only “works” if the currently-excluded illegal aliens would end up as net payers into the system. One flaw with this: If these workers are so skilled and able to demand salaries that would put them in the “payer” category, wouldn’t they have been better able to immigrate legally?

Helping people who legally immigrate here is immigration reform. Please stop calling one the other.

That’s economically illiterate. Immigration scofflaws are virtually all low-wage workers whose taxes won’t cover their Obamacare subsidies, never mind the other government entitlements they’d be eligible. After all, the illegal workforce is about the same deal wage/tax-wise as the Wal-Mart workforce, so whatever “progressives” have to say about the Wal-Mart workforce being public budgetary liabilities applies to the illegals.

Furthermore, since Mexican citizens are more likely to vote Democrat than American citizens Democrats have even more incentive to lie about comprehensive immigration reform than comprehensive health care reform.

Actually, isn’t it a good thing to link the two like this? How best to kill amnesty in the public view by showing that comprehensive immigration reform will likely fair as badly as comprehensive healthcare reform did.

Obama: “Comprehensive immigration reform will not affect the current job market in any way. If you like your job, you can keep your job. If you like your pay level, you can keep your pay level.”

ANYONE with half a brain knew this is why the Ruling Class (in both parties) has been focused on keeping ObamaCare funded and pushing AMNESTY.

ObamaCare is basically designed as free healthcare for the new slave class this country is importing from Mexico (and Central America to a much lesser degree).

It’s designed to slowly integrate the U.S. and Mexico and to provide businesses (the chamber donors) with cheap labor by the tens of millions and then those businesses in turn will help the Ruling class get richer.

The middle income Americans?……mmmm, not so much.

Prove me wrong.

PappyD61 on November 18, 2013 at 1:57 PM

I don’t think they’re particularly concerned about immigration laws not being enforced. All they care about is looking like they’ve done something. If they don’t pass anything(and I’m not convinced they won’t), it will be because they don’t want to lose.

This should also be the case for any new significant legislation on any topic. Nothing big can be done until he leaves the White House and someone that respects the Constitution and the Presidential Oath moves in.

slickwillie2001

This is what is doubly stupid about their desire to pass amnesty. I am totally against amnesty, but geez, if you’re going to do it, at least wait until a republican is in the White House so you at least have a slight chance of getting a little credit for it instead of doing it now and letting the dems and Obama get all the credit.

The one thing we should have learned from ACA / Obamacare is to stay away from comprehensive legislation. We should identify problems and address them in short, focus laws. It is harder to hide pork in small bills and they lessen the room for unintended consequences.

And by the way, we do not have the money to pay non-profits to act as navigators or facilitators. They can do that as part of their mission but all people should have to apply to a government agency to get processed.
