Feelgood story of the day: Batkid saves San Francisco

posted at 6:06 pm on November 15, 2013 by Allahpundit

The perfect palate-cleansing treat at the end of a long, strange, adverse-selection-y week. The video below will give you the background you need; from there your best bet is to skip the news stories about this and dive straight into the social-media photo chronicles of Miles’s big day instead. The Daily Beast, BuzzFeed, and John Sexton at Breitbart all have round-ups; the San Francisco Chronicle even liveblogged it, culminating in the little guy being presented with the key to the city.

Somehow, Make-a-Wish got 11,000 people to participate — including the president of the United States.

His leukemia’s in remission. Hope this is a golden memory for him as an old man.

I’m not sure even Batkid can save San Francisco.

I may not agree with everything (anything?) that San Fran and California does, but some thing DO transcend politics….

And thank God his message stopped at “way to go Miles” without a lecture about what the ACA will do for those with cancer!

Sorry, it takes those of us in DC a bit longer to de-tox at the end of the week.

Very sweet. I need a tissue.

Liberals try their best to ruin it.

cozmo on November 15, 2013 at 6:15 PM

When isn’t that the case?

Happy Nomad on November 15, 2013 at 6:22 PM

Maybe there is actually some hope for America after all…

The wolf will live with the lamb; the leopard will lie down with the young goat. The calf and the lion will graze together, and a little child will lead them.

A child lead us this day.

It’s SF. I’m sure there are local freaks trying to glom onto it too, IYKWIMAITYD.

Dear Bat Kid,

Now that you have the key to San Francisco, would you please lock Nancy Pelosi in, so she can’t do any more damage to our country?

Great job a the bank today! San Francisco appreciates all of your hard work!

The best thing Obama has done as President?

The only thing adverse-election-y about HotAir this past week was how much Neptune-@$$ was pushed, often in the form of the QOTD.

Can we please leave the politics out of this? God knows that I am as conservative as the most conservative HotAir reader and that I think that San Francisco in general represents liberalism at its worst.

Not today though. What San Franciscans did to honor this little kid’s wish was incredible. They deserve my utmost respect. For one day, I am very proud of the people of San Francisco!

None of this “dust in my eyes” baloney. I turned on the waterworks and cried tears of happiness when I saw all the pictures regading this story on twitchy. If there is any justice at all in this world, donning the Batkid cape and cowl will be Miles’ most vivid memory of his cancer experience decades from now. God bless you, Miles Batkid. :)

Oh gosh, that was great. And I’m so glad the boy was not overwhelmed by it all! It looked like he loved every minute. I hope he enjoys his memories for a long, long time.

Kudos to SF and to Make A Wish, who organized an amazing event (hey, what can you do about health insurance?) and brought out the best in a city that is faltering.

A very sweet ending to my week. God bless little Miles.
