Obama: I’d like to apologize for lying to your faces several thousand times about keeping your plan if you liked it; Update: Or not
posted at 6:41 pm on November 7, 2013 by Allahpundit
He tried to spin away the Big Lie with another Big Lie, but when that didn’t work, he was left at a crossroads. Triple down with a Big Lie about the Big Lie about the Big Lie, or bite his lip and apologize? The quote: “I am sorry that [people who’ve lost their insurance] are finding themselves in this situation based on assurances they got from me.” I’m actually not sure what that means. It’s not his assurances that have put them in this situation, it’s the law he signed and the regulations he approved that sandbagged them. Or is he suggesting — not incorrectly, mind you — that maybe he and his pet boondoggle wouldn’t have gotten quite as many votes if he’d been honest?
Conn Carroll asks an excellent question:
I dont get it. Why is Obama apologizing for people losing their insurance? Last week he said they were all junk policies. Was he lying then?
— Conn Carroll (@conncarroll) November 7, 2013
Exactly. Until about an hour ago, the official Democratic line on the Big Lie was that O had, perhaps, “exaggerated” the extent to which people would be able to keep their plans, but that was A-OK because only crappy plans by scam artists are being denied grandfather status. That’s actually the biggest lie of all. Even some liberals are acknowledging the underlying reality. So what’s the new White House position? Are the old plans being properly and deservedly euthanized or is O sorry for their loss?
Update: Ditto.
i'd rather have an apology for all the promises he kept.

Update: Here’s the transcript of the full exchange. Is this really an apology?
CHUCK TODD:
Thanks to you. I’ll start with health care. It’s probably the most quoted thing or requoted thing you have said in your presidency, “If you like your health care plan, you can keep it.” You said it a lot during the run up. At this point, though, it’s obviously something– a promise that has not been able to be kept. Just today, the Denver Post — 250,000 people in Colorado are seeing health insurance policies cancelled. Some of those people liked those policies. And they can’t keep them. What happened?PRESIDENT OBAMA:
Well– first of all, I meant what I said. And we worked hard to try to make sure that we implemented it properly. But obviously, we didn’t do enough– a good enough job– and I regret that. We’re talking about 5% of the population– who are in what’s called the individual market. They’re out there buying health insurance on their own.A lot of these plans are subpar plans. And we put in a clause in the law that said if you had one of those plans, even if it was subpar– when the law was passed, you could keep it. But there’s enough churn in the market that folks since then have bought subpar plans. And now that may be all they can afford. So even though it only affects a small amount of the population, you know, it means a lot to them, obviously, when they get– this letter cancelled.
Follow the link. He goes on and on and on from there about how much “better” the new plans on the exchanges are. And you know what he means by that: “Better” = more comprehensive, period. Cost and access to a sizable provider network are almost entirely irrelevant to the calculus. No one seriously believes that, including him, but he needs to pretend in order to justify pushing healthy people into more expensive coverage. Comprehensiveness is mainly just the excuse to gouge them for higher premiums. He’s not sorry at all that people’s plans are being canceled.

He’s sorry he hasn’t yet totally destroyed the middle class that he fears and hates so much. Like all socialists, he knows that the petit bourgeoisie are a bigger threat to the socialist dream than all the plutocrats of the world combined.

You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

Every word he says is a lie. Every word from his administration is a lie. What a pathetic non-apology apology. This disaster was planned by you built by you and jammed down the throats of the American people. We are awakening in time to thoroughly punish you and your minions in the next election
scboy on November 8, 2013 at 7:25 AM
Well, you said “people could keep their plans.” They can’t and now you’ve told them to move on and sign up. In any other part of America that’s a lie. But you did mean it.
That’s roughly 15 million people who like their plans. That you lie to and now taken away their “choice”.
“Millions of people” were a big deal when you spoke about website “hits”. But now suddenly 15 million people losing their insurance isn’t a big deal. I am confused…or perhaps you are?

Dems have long claimed that Obamacare is perfect the way it is apart from some minor website glitches that are common at the start of any government program. Why would they want to change any aspect of the roll out?
Happy Nomad on November 8, 2013 at 7:34 AM
At the risk of repeating many others – this “apology” is really just a repeat of “I’m sorry you’re all so stupid that you don’t appreciate how we are getting you much better plans, that may include services you don’t want or need, in order to facilitate you carrying a few more freeloaders.”.”

Listened to a man with cancer last night on Kelly’s show. It was heart breaking. He lost his insurance that was treating him and now has to get a pre-existing condition policy from the grim reaper in chief. He said he can’t afford it and didn’t want to burden his family with debt. He’s going to go without insurance and treatment and let nature take it’s course. He didn’t even get insurance to face the death panels. This is what has been brought on us from people who care and wanted to give insurance to 40M people who either didn’t want insurance, need it, or didn’t want to pay for it. Evil is at work in our country.
O/T: Happy birthday to Billy Graham. Wish we had more like him, we desperately need them.
Kissmygrits on November 8, 2013 at 8:38 AM
Maybe I’m dense, but I see absolutely no apology there. I see him explaining how it isn’t his fault. I seem him telling us we’re better off with the new plans. I see no apology.
kenro85 on November 8, 2013 at 8:38 AM
So he is either
a FLAT OUT LIAR
or
TOTALLY INCOMPTETENT ON WHAT IS GOING ON
And his “apology” is fuzzy with the “sorry you lost your policys”
and?????? what else
will he change the regs that caused the loss of policys
guess not
so its
sorry you lost your coverage due to my “assurancees’ but tough noogies you are screwed and SO YOU HAVE TO DEAL WITH BEING LIED TO AND SCREWED OVER BY DEMS.
sniffles1999 on November 8, 2013 at 8:42 AM

Marco on November 8, 2013 at 8:56 AM
Yup.
Those aren’t “problems” Obamacare is having–they are features.
Progressives are just waiting to say that since the current healthcare system is not working, the only solution is a complete government takeover, i.e. single payer.
Whether that will work remains to be seen, but given the abject stupidity demonstrated by a majority of the US electorate a year ago, I’d give the progressives a decent shot of realizing their dream of making us more like Castro’s Cuba.

Yep. The money quote below….
This is not an apology. It is “feeling sorry” for your plight but no changes will be made.
Given the enormity of the dishonesty it is appalling that on the one hand he would admit “….assurances they got from me” and link it to people’s loss of coverage but there is no remedy.
“I am sorry I shot your dog, even though I gave assurances I wouldn’t, but I am not paying you a dime and you can buy a new one for twice the money and half the size.”

That he chose Chuck Todd and NBC for this non apology apology speaks volumes. I wish Meghan Kelley had done the interview. Obama would have been in a fetal position by the end of it. Once again the Limbaugh Theorem is on full display. The tone of this “apology” was Obama seeming to be above the fray. A tone of distancing himself from the fact that he and his party own every part of this mess. Hey REB this is YOUR signature law!
neyney on November 8, 2013 at 10:11 AM
Which begs the question—why is he sorry? Is he sorry because people are truly screwed? If so, he can fix that by making one of his illegal changes to this law.
If he doesn’t make the changes then he’s sorry because he was caught and couldn’t talk his way out of it.

Update on being called back by CGI to have our information taken out of the Obamacare system…
Hubby called and was told that someone would call us back at the beginning of the week. No call, so hubby called again. This time he was told the person who said that we’d be called back didn’t fill out the information correctly, so no call. Now, this person said he did it correctly and we should expect a call in a few days.
Hubby talked to the navigator and said are you getting lots of calls like this. Navigator said, yes. Hubby said have you made any suggestions to improve the situation, since you deal directly with the public and are knowledgeable about the problems. Navigator said, we are not allowed to do that. You have to speak directly to someone at CGI.
Hubby said, but you know more about the problems than they do. Navigator repeated that they are not allowed to do that. (Not allowed to think for themselves, not allowed to improve things.) Hubby said, that is the difference between government and the private sector. The private sector would want to improve this from the ground up. Navigator thanked him and said we should expect a call from CGI “in a couple of days.”
Obama lied, people tried, cried and healthcare died.

It speaks volumes about the sociopathic narcissist in chief when his mea culpa isn’t a mea culpa.
From the transcript…
And the lies keep right on coming…because they are a means to achieve the President’s desired ends.
Not only more lies (applying via phone or paper still requires a functional online application process), but he’s a victim – not the chief executive or responsible and accountable leader of this EpicClusterFark.
What Barack Obama is most sorry about is the damage that this EpicClusterFark is doing to the big government progressive agenda that the community organizer sees as his mission / mandate to implement.

Obama is “sorry”…
*some people misunderstood him
*some people are unhappy about losing their health ins. plans
The “apology”, such as it is, is for not being clear, with regrets that some people are now unhappy about losing their coverage.
He wants to confuse us by deflecting from lack of honesty to lack of clarity. He says he was not clear, when the issue is not about clarity, but that he was not honest.
He was abundantly clear. What could be clearer than, “If you like your plan, you can keep your plan. Period.”
And stunningly dishonest… 23 times on video, give or take a few.
It’s a non-apology apology… by a shameless little weasel.
Sub-par apology by a sub-par president.
Had the truth been known, probably Obamacare would not have passed, and Obama would not have been reelected. Fraud on at least two counts.
