Oh my: Obama falls to 39% job approval in new Gallup poll; Update: Under 50% among Latinos too

posted at 2:01 pm on November 5, 2013 by Allahpundit

I told you it was coming and now here it is.

ga

His all-time low in Gallup is … 38 percent, which he reached twice in late summer and fall 2011 before rebounding. This is why I thought it was noteworthy last week when his favorable rating ended up negative for the first time in that WSJ/NBC poll. He’s had dips in job approval before but retained his personal popularity with voters. People liked him even when they thought he was doing a bad job, which I think provided a floor for his overall approval rating. I’m not sure that floor is there anymore. He’s had a horrendously bad month, from the shutdown to the Healthcare.gov nightmare to the new wrinkles about NSA spying to, of course, the fiasco of “if you like your plan” having been exposed as a grand lie. If you supported Obama before because you thought he’d be an omnicompetent best-and-brightest liberal technocrat, your image of him has been shattered by the Healthcare.gov rollout. If you supported Obama before because you thought he was a straight-shooting hopey-changey fighter for the middle class, your image of him now has to be reconciled with the fact that millions of middle-class people are being forced into more expensive coverage and that O lied, lied, lied his ass off about it for three years. I said it in the WSJ/NBC post and I’ll say it again: Given the amount of crap raining on him, he’s lucky to be as high as 39 percent. If the website can’t be fixed this month and he’s forced to do something drastic like delaying the law for six months, some liberals will abandon him too and he’ll end up in the low 30s. And yes, even a lame duck’s approval rating matters:

It’s -14 today, a full year removed from the midterms. Where will it be in October 2014, a month removed, when the new, almost certainly higher insurance rates for 2015 are released?

I have no new Obama video for this post so here’s Toronto Mayor Rob Ford admitting that he’s smoked crack in the past. Approval rating: 43 percent.

Update: Latinos are big supporters of ObamaCare under normal circumstances, but a month of Glitchpalooza and lies about people keeping their plans isn’t “normal circumstances.” He’s at 49 percent now, down nine points since the week before.

It took 8 years of CONSTANT negative media pressure to drive Bush’s approval this low.

Obama has had nothing but 6 years of fawning praise in the media, yet he has the same approval level.

Damning.

Ok, I admit I was wrong. I said he wouldn’t drop below 40 thanks to his moronic base that would never abandon him. But I guess even they aren’t too excited about the reality of Obamacare.

And one other factor(too soon to impact this poll, but it’ll matter later on) that we shouldn’t overlook is the recent cut in food stamp benefits. Another reason Obama’s managed to keep his approval ratings so inexplicably high is that a lot of Americans are getting “free sh-t” from him. When that starts to dry up, look out.

Doughboy on November 5, 2013 at 2:06 PM

Unions, the jobless (including young adults), the ethnic vote, the radical socialists/communists, people who have not yet received their insurance cancellation notice, people who are exempted from Obamacare, and the lifelong party line voters/people who don’t follow the news. My guess is that adds up to about 30%-35% of the electorate.

The website fail is conceivably something the left will and independents might forgive him for, but one thing on the tech side that is omitted is the specific issue of information security. I think that’s a huge deal. The left will likely bury their heads in the sand or put a brown-paper bag over their heads and, in either case, they’ll say, “I don’t know nuthin’ about nuthin’.” Maybe, they’ll offer a lame excuse that the GOP hindered Obama’s ability to take the necessary security measures. I think independents will hate him for this. It’ll be interesting to hear about the instances of identity theft in the next year.

What I highlighted above is the big thing. Here, many of the left may still apologize for him. Uber rich liberals won’t care about paying more; they’re bullet proof. But middle class Dems are going to be p*ssed. Higher premiums, higher deductibles, the complexity and the hassle of having individual or employer-provided coverage dropped and dealing with the website all will sink him.

I never thought he’d dropped to the low 30s, but I wouldn’t bet against it now.

I shook my head in disagreement when I read someone say that this was Obama’s Iranian hostage crisis. I now think it just may well be. Middle America doesn’t want to hear about people enrolling in Medicaid. Fine, cart out the stories of the uninsurable, but helping them didn’t require turning the country upside down.

There is something visceral about that term, “smoke crack” that amplifies an activity far more white middle class people have taken part in than would ever admit (nope, of course I never smoked crack, but I know several very successful peolple who did once or twice in their college years). For me it is a question of age – most people are idiots in their teens and early 20s relative to the person they’ll eventually evolve into. It’s the people older than 30 who smoke crack, or start using meth etc that we need to keep out of leadership positions.

BuckeyeSam on November 5, 2013 at 2:16 PM

Keep in mind that Romney won independents and still lost the election. Independents matter a lot less these days.

Additionally, the Republicans do seem likely to win a handful of seats here and there in 2014, but unless a conservative can win the presidency, we will not get any relief from this law. In the greater scheme of things, the GOP winning 2-3 Senate seats and 10-20 new House seats means very little if amnesty is passed and Hillary comes along in 2016 and blows everyone away.

Obamacare seems increasingly likely to poison the well for 2014, but by 2016 the electorate will have likely forgotten about it even if the majority of the country loses its healthcare. Remember that Obamacare was immensely unpopular in 2009-2010 but by 2012 Obama had an electoral cakewalk.

Yeah, he’s really crummy. He’s got a really lousy management style and a team of crummy shysters from Chicago. He thinks America’s a pretty lousy place but that’s because of what he learned from his dad, who was this really crummy philandering alcoholic from Kenya, believe it or not.

Obama was so crummy and cowardly he couldn’t hack it as a lawyer and decided instead to be a demagogue. He went to this really crappy little church where they also thought America was a fairly crummy, lousy country. People kept showering him with gifts he didn’t deserve but the bum had so little class that he actually accepted a Nobel Peace Prize for just being a phoney bum.

Obama was such a lousy crummy guy that he learned how to mass-manipulate a bunch of guilty white people into voting for him for President. At first, blacks thought he was too white and not a real black man (which he isn’t by the way) but then a couple of crummy race-hustlers convinced them otherwise and suddenly this guy who’d been crummy all his life and never built a goddamned thing was President of the United States.

Honestly, I think a guy this crummy probably belongs in jail.

RCP average -8.5. Approaching all time low of -10.2.

For most of August-October he hovered around -6, so there’s definitely a little dip here. Time will tell whether he’s going to continue to dip, or will settle in at this level, or even rebound. He’s been at -8 or lower for four straight days, so he may be settling in there. Too early to tell. Wait another week or two.

He’s not up for re-election& a billion dollar earnings post presidency awaits him.

The Democrats were also kicked out of the House.

Little detail there.

he is not running for reelection .. unless he plans to declare himself
ruler for life, which I doubt (for now).
unless the GOP (aka the stupid party) can tie this around the neck
of every single Dem out there for the mid terms … it does not matter.

What do you suppose old Barry’s going to have to gift his minions with in order to win back their love? Doesn’t Chevy still have fleets of Volts with nowhere to go? Solar paneled homes for everyone? Jay Z comes to your house for Thanksgiving?

Time for more bread and circuses to appease the disgruntled rubes.

Good thing he doesn’t have to run for president again. Thanks, American electorate!

happytobehere on November 5, 2013 at 2:22 PM

Yeah great! Now we’re looking at 8 years of the Hildabeast! Morons don’t get smarter over time.

How did Obama get out of his 38% slump in 2011?

happytobehere on November 5, 2013 at 2:42 PM

By claiming that what we were saying about Obamacare was a lie. Unfortunately for Obama, Obamacare’s impacts are no longer theoretical. They are being experienced by Americans every single day and people understand that he lied to them.

Obama: “If you like yoh amnesty, you can keep yoh amnesty.”

I’m guessing that the pro-amnesty Hispanics are beginning to doubt his promises.

BuckeyeSam on November 5, 2013 at 2:40 PM

My thought, too. Let’s make sure to point to his lies within the amnesty debate.
‘How can you assure ANYONE, mr. prez, that you’re not lying about this, too ??’

Correct on all counts. “We told you so”, needs to be the mantra of the GOP for the next 12 months. It’s not enough just to hammer on Dems for voting for it, but they need to constantly remind voters that they were warned by the GOP about every bad thing that is happening.

And, they need to put forth a “repeal and replace” free market plan that can be explained in an elevator.

Chris of Rights on November 5, 2013 at 2:54 PM

And yet Obama – Mr. Unpopular – goes in to VA and campaigns for McCauliffe and the scumbag is going to win by 6 to 12 points over a true Reagan conservative. And still Obama is getting everything he wants while setting up Hillary in 2016.

So tell me again why Obama’s poor approval rating means anything at all? Doesn’t seem to matter much to me.

conservativemusician on November 5, 2013 at 2:58 PM

Some way, some how, the GOP is screw up it’s advantage.

Once that number stabilizes, we’ll know exactly how many people are sucking off of the public teat.

Medicaid = Low info.

Sixty percent of swing voters have an unfavorable image of Obama, while only 36 percent of them have a favorable view, says the George Washington University Battleground Poll, which was released Nov. 4.
