Christie: Maybe folks in Washington should tune in their TV right now to see how it’s done

posted at 10:49 pm on November 5, 2013 by Mary Katharine Ham

I’ll update with the whole speech once it’s up, but here’s a bit. It’s clearly a speech with a national pitch. Click to watch:

Christie

Excerpts:

• “We stand here tonight showing that it is possible to put doing your job first. To put working together first. To fight for what you believe in yet still stand by our principles and get something done for the people who elected you.”

• “I did not seek a second term to do small things. I sought a second term to finish the job. Now watch me do it.”

• Mr. Christie said his job was transformed when Hurricane Sandy dealt a crippling blow to the state. “It’s no longer a job for me. It’s a mission. A mission is something that is different from a job. It’s something sacred.”

Meanwhile, if you don’t like Christie, you can at least delight in how his dominance ties the Democratic Party in knots. Heh:

In her concession speech, Barbara Buono took some shots at her party’s leaders.

After telling supporters that she had called Gov. Chris Christie to congratulate him on his re-election — “We’re just two parents who want to see the best for our children’s future,” she said — Ms. Buono, a Democratic state senator, launched into an attack against those she called “the bosses and the political machines that have defined New Jersey’s politics for far too long.”

She thanked aides who “withstood the onslaught of betrayal from our own political party.”

And she recalled her decision to back down and let party leaders install their choice for state party chairman like this:

“I took one for the team. The only problem, I realized too late there was no team.”

NJ voters approve increasing minimum wage

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) – New Jersey voters have approved a raising the state’s minimum wage Jan. 1 and then every year.

The Democrat-led state Legislature put the constitutional amendment on the ballot after failing to strike a deal with Republican Gov. Chris Christie on the changes.

The wage is to go up by $1, to $8.25 hourly on Jan. 1. It also calls for automatic increases every Sept. 1 based on cost-of-living changes.

Business owners say they’ll be forced to lay off workers, cut employee hours or raise prices to compensate for having to pay a higher minimum wage. They also say they’ll be hamstrung by the constitutional amendment if there is another economic recession.

The state’s AFL-CIO union and Working Families United for New Jersey had backed the measure.

Can’t wait for the first small businesses to start laying off workers. People have to learn that the laws of economics cannot be changed by wishful thinking.

I’m really not trolling here or trying to be snotty. This is an honest question.

Mr. Christie said his job was transformed when Hurricane Sandy dealt a crippling blow to the state.

Crispy Chreme used SOOPER-DOOPER storm Sandy (it wasn’t a hurricane) in order to french kiss his Indonesian boyfriend on the Jersey shore and make sure that America was finished in 2012. Crispy is a lowlife scumbag.

The fat, back-stabbing, treasonous POS can go straight to hell, where he belongs. And he can take his Indonesian, his Democrat party and his Vichy Republicans with him.

Why do you people have a problem with what bluegill wrote? Christie is a slimeball sack of putrid dung. He’s a back-stabbing douchebag who did everything he could to throw the 2012 election .. and all in return for NOTHING but getting to hold hands with the most moronic, most evil, most insane person ever to occupy the Oval Office and to help the America-hater keep his boot on our necks. There is NOTHING to look at Crispy Chreme for. NOTHING. He is a dirtbag and, yes, he’s also an aider and abetter of illegals invading this nation. So, anyone who thinks that Crispy Chreme is an example of anything but the dirtbags that infest our governmental systems and who are destroying this nation is … is someone whose opinions aren’t very worthwhile.

The only thing that Crispy Chreme shows “how it’s done” is back-stabbing, treason and stupidity. And Jerseyites are still trying to recover from sooper-doopper, mega storm Sandy … so Crispy Chreme’s making out with Barky didn’t net Jersey anything – as well it shouldn’t have.

ThePrimordialOrderedPair on November 5, 2013 at 11:14 PM

Christie makes me laugh—he has no clue how the rest of the country loathes him. But he and the big-money businessmen who have sold out everyday Americans to increase their profits by embracing Obama’s protection for illegal aliens will soon learn a shocking lesson. A revolution, a tidal wave of American anger is building, and they will be swept away.

Almost. MKH was just paraphrasing Crispy Chreme with the “tune in to see how it’s done” part.

But your point was more about her general views and attitude. I’m with you on the fact that supporting illegals is a total deal-breaker. It was in 2006-2007 and it still is. Anyone “on the right” who doesn’t clearly understand that (especially after having seen what support for illegals did to the GOP after 2007 and how it just about killed the idiots) is totally out of touch … and there is no excuse since they have a clear recent history to draw from.

What got me, though, was the weird way people were attacking you instead of claiming that your point was incorrect. Very odd.

As for me, I’m just done with all of these slimeballs. I didn’t vote today and I don’t expect I’ll be voting again for a while. There’s nothing left to vote for, just a selection of idiots and traitors of all stripes. I’ve had my fill of the charade.

Flapjackmaka on November 5, 2013 at 11:39 PM

Christie is a formidable politician and he will be the Republican nominee if conservatives and libertarians don’t unite behind someone early.

After watching Sarvis pull in 100,000 plus votes in Virginia I am starting to wonder if that is possible. The problem with hardcore conservatives and the libertarian wing is each of us has some pet cause that seems to prevent unity or moderation of any kind. Cruz has probably the best shot at stopping Christie, but if he moderates on something like immigration, I don’t mean being for amnesty or anything like that, but for increasing legal immigration…will that cause anti-immigration folks to freak out and tear him down?

Christie is right about one thing, some of us do live in a ivory tower were all things must be perfect…we want a prophet to lead us, not a politician, and prophets never win elections because they end up getting stoned, or thrown to the lions…etc.

davemason2k on November 5, 2013 at 11:18 PM

Oh really?

Illegals
In late April of 2008, at church forum sponsored by the local chapter of the Latino Leadership Alliance of New Jersey, Mr. Christie assured his audience that illegal immigrants were not really here illegally, but were simply “undocumented.”

Guns
As the gubernatorial campaign commenced in June last year, Michael Symons of the Asbury Park Press reported that: Chris Christie supports the assault weapons ban and all current gun laws. He opposes attempts to permit conceal and carry laws in New Jersey.

Ground Zero Mosque/Islam
“On the other hand, we cannot paint all of Islam with that brush. … We have to bring people together.” – Also appointed a radical Muslim with ties to the Muslim Brotherhood to the NJ Supreme Court – Sohail Mohammed

Global warming
Asked by a man attending the event whether he thought mankind was responsible for global warming, Christie says he’s seen evidence on both sides of the argument but thinks it hasn’t been proven one way or another. Christie says “more science” is needed to convince him.

And that’s just for starters.

TxAnn56 on November 5, 2013 at 11:45 PM

Here’s the thing:

Amnesty is my number one issue. Christie has already said he’s open to it and has promised to push for in-state tuition for illegals.

Christie is awful for a lot of reasons (and he’s no conservative), but his openness to amnesty really seals the deal for me.

And I’m not a dude, by the way.

bluegill, I’m pro-amnesty because I need cheaper lawn care service. Not enough Mexicans to bring the price down
davemason2k on November 5, 2013 at 11:36 PM

At least you’re honest about it.

What we see too often are so-called conservatives trying to blur the line between legal and illegal immigration, and using euphemisms like “comprehensive immigration reform” in place of “amnesty.”

is each of us has some pet cause that seems to prevent unity or moderation of any kind.

My pet cause is not turning over the country to 50 million invaders and future demofascist voters.

I don’t think amnesty is something that should be done. What I am asking about is increasing Legal Immigration to help the tech sectors, mostly immigrants from India, China, etc. Sort of what Canada has done. Not a mass of 50 million, just a couple million or so…

Would you be for that?

We’d be lucky if the number is really 50 million. Amnesty should be the pet cause of everyone because it is and will continue to destroy this nation. Blue staters who live in Normal Rockwell whitopias would sing a different tune if they had to watch the destruction day in and day out.

There are plenty of tech workers already in America, including programmers, many of whom are unemployed. Many companies just want lower paid workers so they lie and say there is this big shortage.

So the answer is no…

So if Cruz was for that, would that prevent you from voting for him?

I’ve pretty much become a one issue voter. Defense against illegal immigration and prevention of Obamnesty pretty much trumps all.

If they do Obamnesty and ever allow them to vote, our nation is as good as gone.

You know it, and I know it. Everything else is secondary.

Canada did it the smart way, they took in the highly skilled and the brilliant ones from all over the world, meanwhile we’re stuck with the unskilled, semi-illiterate ones from across our S border…smart power : (.

In addition to being stuck with the lying shithead from, one way or another, Kenya.

Christie seems to have an even bigger ego than Obama and I don’t think he would even carry his own state over Hillary.

Clinton won’t get the nom.

What does it take for you people to learn?
