Video: Jay Carney getting pretty tired of questions about ObamaCare phone applications

posted at 4:41 pm on November 4, 2013 by Allahpundit

Via NRO, the exciting conclusion to ABC’s report this morning. It’s all worth watching but the outright mockery begins a little after 2:45. Simple question from Jon Karl: How can Obama claim that users can bypass the website and apply by phone in 25 minutes when O-Care’s phone operators are stuck in the same circle of 404 hell on Healthcare.gov as the rest of the country? You’re not enrolling when you call the hotline. No one’s calculating your subsidies or signing you up for a particular plan. All you’re doing is handing off your information to a government worker who’ll create an account for you on the system while we wait for The Most Technologically Savvy Administration Ever to staple and duct-tape Healthcare.gov into a semi-functioning hub. In which case, in what meaningful sense are you “bypassing” the website? All the important stuff is still in limbo until the website works. Carney’s reply, in so many words: Nobody has a problem with this except you, Jon Karl. Which, unwittingly, is a nice complement to the idea that nobody who’s had their insurance canceled really understands just how crappy their insurance was. If only we were smarter, we’d appreciate Obama more.

What Carney should have said is that applying by phone might spare you from having your personal information forwarded to a complete stranger. I wonder why he didn’t say that.

Maybe because it’s not true. (Nah, that has never stopped Carney before).

Information you give the phone navigator will eventually end up on the OCare website, so it’s no more secure than if you type the info. into the website yourself.

Applying by phone might delay your personal info. getting forwarded to a complete stranger, but that’s about it.

The American people are getting pretty tired of the spin, lies, and non-answers from the spokesman for the most open and transparent Administration ever.

What’s getting interesting is if the apparatchiks in the lamestream media, seeing the credibility of their ideological dream evaporate in the meltdown of the ACA, will actually keep up (or increase) the pressure on Carney / Administration or if they will back off in order to protect the agenda that bigger government is better government?

Robert_Paulson on November 4, 2013 at 4:56 PM

If Jay thinks completing the registration info and evaluating options is Enrollment, what does he call it when someone finally selects and pays for a plan? I call them “Victims” of Obamacare.

hillsoftx on November 4, 2013 at 4:56 PM

Athos, I think you nailed why they are going after obama. The “cause” is more important than him. They are now trying to protect their whole fantasy world so that they can still dupe Americans into European style socialism.

Hard Right on November 4, 2013 at 4:56 PM

Nice seeing them squirm. Too bad the media doesn’t keep their feet to the fire more often.

I stink at math, but if only 6 Americans were able to “enroll” in Obamacare, what is the % compared to the population?

Murphy9 on November 4, 2013 at 5:00 PM

Yeah, who really cares about the website and phone number being completely useless? It’s not like millions of people are losing their coverage(despite Obama’s pledge that they wouldn’t) and are desperate to find a new plan with the enrollment deadline fast approaching. And who really cares about the people who didn’t have insurance to begin with and are trying to enroll? It’s not like this law was rammed through for their benefit or anything.

How I would love for one member of the press to just call him a liar, and when Carney protested, just get up and punch him in his gd face, so he’ll stay plastered.

Murphy9 on November 4, 2013 at 5:07 PM

So how long until Obama is such a laughing stock that evenverbie a libby wont’ defend him? Sounds like Carney is almost ready to give up. It can’t be long before the whole party throws in the towel on defending his mouth and his incompetence.

oldroy on November 4, 2013 at 5:19 PM

You know where those apps are that the poor saps in the call centers took in? I would guess stuffed in Bekins boxes up and down the hall and in the spare rooms.

Eventually, someone will secretly throw them away. I worked in government and experienced this.

NoFanofLibs on November 4, 2013 at 5:20 PM

Behold the dichotomy between a government supposedly so technically diabolicaal that it can record and monitor your every phone call and email; yet is apparently so technically incompetent that it can’t launch a functional website.

NoFanofLibs on November 4, 2013 at 5:20 PM

I’d bet they do, or at least make an attempt. And the reason is Hillary. She has to dump on him hard and do it soon, or Utopia may be lost forever. Most of the Dem. party will have to do that to survive with any credibility.

They will (Benghazi) spin their way out of this Healthcare kerfuffle as well……..just you wait and see.

Heh.

LASue on November 4, 2013 at 5:33 PM

Hahaha. Jay must be dizzy from all that spinning he’s been doing lately. And where is the president? Why, he’s campaigning, of course. For the crooked dem candidate here in VA.

scalleywag on November 4, 2013 at 5:33 PM

The president has lots to talk about today, but health care isn’t one of them. He’s busy bashing the tea party and desperately trying to get the folks to remember there was a shutdown.

scalleywag on November 4, 2013 at 5:35 PM

They will (Benghazi) spin their way out of this Healthcare kerfuffle as well……..just you wait and see.

FlaMurph on November 4, 2013 at 5:30 PM

Nope. This thing deals with our checkbooks and our healthcare each and every month. And even if the “mandate” is rolled back, it’s too late. Damage has been done that can not be undone. Add to that all of the LIVs and illegals that still think they are about to get free coverage and care.

Each and every month. Every interaction that involves your healthcare. Benghazi was an abstract thing to most people. Healthcare is part of life each and every month.

oldroy on November 4, 2013 at 5:35 PM

The news networks all seem to be thinking, hey, wait a minute…are they lying to us again?

scalleywag on November 4, 2013 at 5:38 PM

It’s remarkable that this carny Carney can still muster indignation with a liberal press corps which helped elect his boss and give him a job, and finds their performance incompetent.

Where does he find the nerve?

Michelle Obama’s patient dumping scheme looks eerily familiar to Barack Obama’s middle class insurance dumping scheme

Woot.

Key West Reader on November 4, 2013 at 5:50 PM

Hate to re-post, but it looks like payback to me. Obama always said he was going to decimate the middle class and make them poor. Obamacare does that.

Key West Reader on November 4, 2013 at 5:53 PM

Creating an account was the problem with the website in the initial days……. So that’s fixed now?

And if I hear “user experience” one more time I’m going to use some family-unfriendly language. This isn’t a ride at Disneyworld or an IMAX movie.

I knew a realtor in San Diego that was thrilled with the economic downturn. Before then, the market was so hot that anybody could call themselves a realtor. All they had to do was put a property on the MLS and walk their client through a bidding war. When the market went south, the real realtors- the ones who knew how to market a property- survived. Not so much the other ones. IMO Carney is in much the same situation. The press has been so friendly to his lazy stupid boss that he really hasn’t had to do anything but read the daily Valarie Jarrett talking points to the stenography pool known as the White House Press Corps. Now he is being challenged and he is acting like a spoiled child because he is lousy at his job.

Tony Snow would never insult a journalist asking a question the way Carney did in just this one clip. Tony Snow would not have acted annoyed at the question. Tony Snow was a professional. Jay Carney is a hack.

Mooch was in a sham job where she really didn’t have to do much work. The lazy stupid coward is the POTUS where he has to………. never mind.

Seriously, I think you are right that the war has extended to the middle class. Which in the end will consist solely of government functionaries rewarded for party loyalty. The first GUM department store will be located in Northern Virginia.

There are still plenty of people in this country who believe in playing by the rules. A lot of them were stupid enough to vote for Obama. And Obamacare is going to kick them right in the ass. When you’re ruled by a Marxist thug, the useful idiots will learn that no good deed goes unpunished.

It was only bread but they could afford it and were largely happy with it.

Now Obama has taken away their bread and tells us, “Let them eat cake” it’s much better, except the whole problem of not not being able to afford the cake and now they can’t buy the bread so it’s just starve.

Heck of a job Obamie!

Heck, if the White House press corps(e) had any integrity they would have gang rushed this sniveling little weasel, dragged him to the nearest head and given him a nuclear swirly a long time ago. The fact they haven’t is proof they’re still in the tank for His Most High Obamaship.

And don’t me started on that David Puffer guy (h/t a long-ago Marine DI), who clearly spent a lot of time in High School staring out through the louvers of his locker and calling for the janitor to let him out.
