Just what you always wanted: “Health care for the holidays”!

posted at 3:21 pm on November 1, 2013 by Erika Johnsen

Jay Carney insisted yesterday that the White House had always expected ObamaCare’s initial enrollment numbers to be quite low (which is weird, because I thought they didn’t even have any enrollment expectations, or something?), but Obama’s very botched rollout has certainly done nothing to help improve the fledgling program’s participation outlook. If the administration really, honestly thinks that they’ll have the website finally running smoothly by early December (you can’t see it, but I’m wearing my quizzical face), then they’ll need to boost the signups in the remaining enrollment months even further — most especially from the young, healthy demographic they desperately need to buy insurance in order to prevent the dreaded death-spiral scenario.

Hence, enter Organizing for Action: Merry flipping Christmas, ya’ll:

Organizing for Action (OFA), the pro-President Obama group, is launching a new effort over the holiday season to boost enrollment in Obamacare amid the botched rollout of the health care reform law.

The new campaign is focused on “encouraging parents and grandparents to talk to the young adults in their lives about the importance of signing up for health coverage,” the group said in a statement. …

“Over the past few months, OFA has been making sure people have information about the benefits they are already seeing from Obamacare and the resources they need to get enrolled through the new marketplaces,” said the group. “The Healthcare for the Holidays campaign encourages family, friends and neighbors to have the one-on-one conversations that are crucial to getting people enrolled.”

Sure, it’s kind of cute and clever, with some Harry Potter and Daft Punk references at which plenty of young people might chuckle, but it’s definitely not even trying to be anything more than an advertisement devoid of any substantive information about ObamaCare at all. Nutshell version: “Haha, #LOLwut, now go sign up for ObamaCare.” A somewhat more straightforward version might have nixed the jokes and instead shown the parents telling their son: “Honey, we know you’re having trouble developing a career beyond those part-time shifts over at the coffee shop and that the opportunities for your generation are being squeezed in this godawful economy, but you should really dedicate a huge chunk of your budget to a more comprehensive health plan than what you really need. It’s the law, after all.”

The ‘kid’ wasn’t wearing a seat belt.

How can Obama promote lawlessness? Who will he blame now?

That is definitely Anthony Weiner’s illegitimate kid.

Is he 26+? Was this an oversight to have young people sign up, but allow them to stay on their parents insurance till they are 26?

tommer74 on November 1, 2013 at 3:30 PM

If you currently have any need for a medical procedure, my advice is to get it done before January. Cuz come Jan 1, 2014, the lines outside doctors offices and hospitals will be quite long and nasty.

Yup, from the headline thread (Yeah, I’m that lazy)…

Mom: We joined a cult…
Dad: Well, it’s not really a cult, it’s more cultish…
Son: *shaking his head “No”*
Mom: Seriously. We’ve joined OFA. We’ll turn you in if you don’t sign up for Obamacare…

An early Christmas present from the US Court of Appeals in an Ohio case.

Via Breitbart:
(AP) Appeals court deals blow to contraceptive mandate
Associated Press
A divided appeals court panel is siding with Ohio business owners who challenged the birth control mandate under the new federal health care law.

The business owners are two brothers who say the mandate to provide contraceptive coverage would make them violate their Roman Catholic beliefs.

The ruling Friday by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit is one of many on the birth control issue, which likely will be resolved by the Supreme Court.

The appeals court panel says the mandate limits the right of free exercise of religion.

The brothers are Francis and Philip M. Gilardi. They say they don’t want to provide contraceptives like the Plan B pill for their employees. The Gilardis own Freshway Foods and Freshway Logistics of Sidney, Ohio.

The funny thing is – all of the elite economics and business college graduates actually believe that being forced to buy something that you neither want, nor need, is a perfectly acceptable economic and business expenditure.

Mom: We need you to get health insurance … it’s important
Son: I’ll do it … it’s just … never mind
Dad: What? What?
Son: Why should I bother? And have you seen the prices of those bogus insurance policies? And why should I get covered maternity! I’m an unmarried guy and I don’t even have a girlfriend!
Dad: Listen you ungrateful punk, you gotta get insurance! Who’s gonna pay for my free viagra!
Mom: And my liposuction!
Son: But …
Dad: No buts here boy. We’re all in this together and you OWE us. You owe us!!!!!
Son: Fine, fine, whatever …. (to himself) yeah, just wait you geezers until it’s time for you guys to check out. Pay for the expensive treatment? As if. You’ll take the blue pill and like it.

PackerBronco on November 1, 2013 at 3:53 PM

Healthcare for the Holiday’s?

Sure, let’s encourage people to, instead of paying for their holiday shopping, use those funds to pay for the health insurance coverage.

What’s going to happen is not unexpected – the young and healthy critical to the success of the exchanges and the prevention of a premium-based death spiral, are going to take one look at the premiums and coverages and decide that the far better course of action is to pay the ‘tax’.

After all if they need coverage because of something catastrophic, the elimination of premiums or exclusions based on ‘preexisting conditions’ means they can buy a policy then.

Ok. A couple of things. To start with, the son looks young enough, that he could actually go under his parents insurance, so why does he need to buy any?

And secondly, the commercial is stupid, dumb, idiotic, did I say stupid?

This is not a “Pro-President Obama” group.

This IS President Obama’s group. Created by him and run by him as a political arm to browbeat his agenda as a , so-called, grass roots organization.

He’s doing this to skirt all the laws to that prohibit politicians from using their office to line their own pockets.

It’s disgusting, it’s illegal and if McCain was really for campaign finance reform he’d be all over this in a heart beat.

I think obamacare is already over. We live in such a microwave fast-food society that if it does not work from the beginning, people are going to go onto something else, and wait 1-6 months to see if it works (especially young people).

If it was so good, more than 6 people would have enrolled in the first day. I have only seen one state where the apps point to less medicaid than insurance apps. This thing was doomed to failure from the start, not because the GOP and Indies would not support it, but because it the govt version of the Hindenburg.

Nobody wanted it. But everyone is forced to buy into it.

I hope every Dem’s Christmas is ruined. They ruined mine in 2009.

matthew8787 on November 1, 2013 at 4:15 PM

My girlfriend has the best way to explain ObamaCare.

What if HHS decided to cover shoes.
Everyone needs shoes.
Bad shoes can cause health problems for your back, legs and feet.
So, HHS has now ruled that shoes are to be covered under ObamaCare.

All shoe offerings must be the same; regardless of age or need or what your job is. And they have decided that there are to be only 4 kinds of shoes offered.
Since some men are have preexisting needs for steel toe boots, that will be one kind.
The President said that if you like your Jimmy Choo’s you can keep them, but HHS grandfather rules say that open toes and heals can be dangerous on construction sites so they will not be grandfathered.

So ladies; are you still for ObamaCare?

What “holiday season” is this administration referring to? Ramadan was over before the roll out.

Besides, I’m offended that they’d tie any program to a holiday/season. my Civil Liberties feel very violated right now. Unless we’re talking about Kwaanza because I don’t care about Kwaanza.

But seriously, shouldn’t the ACLU get involved in such illegal propaganda?

Plus, I can tell you with absolute certainty that Frosty, Rudolph, and all those Holiday Beings freaking hate 404 Care.

It aS not too long ago when there was the cliche of the proud poor family that was too proud to go on welfare. There was something honorable about being self sufficient, even it the kids had ratty clothes and the family car was a rattletrap.

Now the government celebrates that it is putting half the nation on welfare and refuses to even reveal the amount of the subsidy.
