Via Wired and HuffPo, two and a half minutes of found footage that premiered at Comic Con this summer and which has now, inevitably, migrated to YouTube. It’s a treat, not because the bloopers are very funny but because seeing pieces of a cultural memory as vivid as “Star Wars” suddenly yanked into reality brings home just how deeply weird the whole concept was. Not until you watch this will you fully appreciate the genius it took to realize that dressing up a large man as some sort of dog-bear mutant could generate a character who now enjoys higher name recognition among Americans than most cabinet members and Supreme Court justices.
