Audio: ObamaCare operator fired for talking to Hannity on the air

posted at 6:01 pm on October 24, 2013 by Allahpundit

Via RCP. Here’s the audio of the original call from two days ago. The firing offense, I guess, was the operator admitting to him that no one likes Healthcare.gov. That’s so patently true that the president himself held a press conference in the Rose Garden earlier this week to acknowledge it, but it’s one thing for him to say it in the course of a Popeil-esque pitch to buy insurance and another for an O-Care worker to admit it flatly to — gasp — right-wing talk radio. That goes to show you how politicized this ostensibly neutral government program is. In fact, I assume the real reason she was canned was to retaliate against Hannity by victimizing a sympathetic blue-collar worker and then hoping/trusting that he’d take the blame for it somehow. And … that strategy will probably work, at least in left-wing media, notwithstanding (a) Hannity’s offer to give her a year’s worth of salary and help her find a new job and (b) the fact that some jackhole apparatchik tossed her out on the street simply because she acknowledged a truth in public that embarrassed the bureaucracy. That’s accountability, ObamaCare-style. Congrats on finding someone worth firing over the rollout, guys!

We need to get Hannity to call Sebelius now.

So what happens when they all get fired next week when “The Law of the Land” once again gets changed because Obama…says so??

With all his listeners an viewers she’ll be working next week.

I listened to the interview and she came across as a nice person, even if she did not have all the answers. He treated her nicely, and that someone would lose their job over this interview is absurd.

Doughboy on October 24, 2013 at 6:12 PM

So telling the unflattering truth about the regime is the only offense punishable by firing? I’m sure they’d make it punishable by firing squad if they thought they could get away with it.

How much of this crap is going to be enough, I wonder?

Rovin on October 24, 2013 at 6:31 PM

Hannity should find out who the supervisor/boss was that fired the operator and then interview that person on the air and ask all the interesting questions:

- why did the operator get fired?
- what happened to power to truth?
- what happened to freedom of speech?
- what happened to workers rights?
- where’s the union to protect you when you need one? /
- how could an Obama(don’t)care worker not be unionized in the first place?

I heard the interview. Hannity wasn’t playing gotcha. The woman was polite and tried to as helpful as she could- given that HealthCare.gov doesn’t actually work.

This is all spite. I only wish that the company (if she was working for a contractor) or the agency if not.

Happy Nomad on October 24, 2013 at 6:44 PM

Another article states she was fired for taking a call from the media, but multiple media personalities have been trying to get through. It seems like she was fired for speaking publicly with a conservative media personality. This would seem to be illegal.

I listened to a recording of the conversation between Hannity and the Obamacare operator on Hannity’s Fox News show last night. While the operator herself was professional and handled herself well under the circumstances, her male supervisor in the background was overheard saying “Shut him down”. The supervisor should have been canned, not the female operator.

But this is the Chicago Community Organizer Administration. Anyone who makes Barack Omighty look bad gets canned–the truth be d@mned.

We talk about Alinsky’s “Rules for Radicals” when discussing Obama. If one has not done so I believe it is worthwhile reading “The New Class” by Milovan Djilas an associate of Tito’s who became disillusioned with Communism. Published in 1957 it is not much talked about now. It describes the rise of the powerful political bureaucracy of Communism in Yugoslavia but mostly the USSR. You will find alot in this book reflective of Obama’s authoritarian tactics and the infiltration of liberal ideology (the Democrat Party) into the bureaucracy of the federal government. You could find the similarities chilling.

1. The Fed contractor fired her for talking to Hannity
2. Hannity felt bad about it and is paying more then her 1 hear salary she would have got working at the HHS phone bank all TAX free for her according to the call.
3. He has started an email address jobs@hannity.com that people send emails if they have a possible job for the women that got fired.

I am generally not a fan of Hannity but in this case he has stepped up and showed the difference between the private sector “compassion” and the federal governments “compassion” for a single citizen.

How many “Healthcare Marketplace Call Centers” can there possibly be in Panama City, Florida?

It shouldn’t take too long for an Investigative Reporter to find this Call Center, to ask why they fired Erling.

Perhaps the Call Center should have asked its Media Relations department for advice before they fired Erling.

The Call Center could (and should) end up causing itself a much bigger media problem by firing Erling, than any problem they might have had based on the call wih Hannity.

Erling’s professionalism on that call was impressive. I’m sure she will do quite well in her next job. Best wishes Erling!

Her well-being was an afterthought, IMO. Where was he when she was locked in a room, grilled, then fired? Where was he when she needed a ride home earlier than expected that day? If she has family, where was he when she got home and had to break the news to them?

I’ll tell you where I think he was–patting himself on the back for getting a piddling soundbite at her expense. The fact that after she was canned he throws her some chump change (for him) and offered to help her find another job doesn’t let him off the hook for playing with her life in the first place. I hope he learned a lesson–one that money cannot buy.

You know what’s scary about this story? Hannity replaced her salary of $26,000. Really? $26K??? I have a good friend who sells auto and home insurance for AAA. He makes well into the 6 figures in salary. He does that by busting his ass and by keeping his clients satisfied, and by selling a quality product. The people who are advising “customers” of the Government and “selling” health insurance are making $26,000. You really think you’re going to get a quality agent for that amount of money???

She’ll easily get another gig. She came off as extremely polite and professional.

Imagine that – a worker who is polite, professional AND HONEST. You are right – she will find work quickly. Any decent employer would treasure someone with these qualities.

She deserves better than to be working in an Obamacare call center – caught in between an essentially non-functional computer data entry system, and callers who are (with good reason) irate.

I wish her the best. And good on Hannity for helping her out.

I bet a fact check would show her real name is Erline or Earline, not Erling. She sounds African-American, not Danish or Scandi. It’s always nice when journalists get names right. Old school.

While I admire Hannity’s compassion in this case, I admire his strategy even more!

Hannity called in to obtain real information for his listeners and Erline was very gracious in answering his questions. As she noted, she did not break any rule that she knew of in talking to the press, and she was not asked her side of the story. That can only mean one thing… her company wished to make an example of her to pressure the operators NOT to talk to conservative media. In this way, they could restrict the access of conservative media without explicitly saying it. It’s not all that different from how the IRS targeted conservatives. While there may not have been explicit statements made, everyone knew by example how to target and restrict conservatives.

Hannity’s response blew that design apart! By having her on the air to tell her side of the story, and providing gifts to pay her salary for a year, and help ensure she gets a replacement job for her family, the other operators will not only take conservative media calls, but will be VERY happy to do so! By providing his own alternate example, Hannity opened the phone banks up for conservative media!

While I applaud his compassion, I admire his strategy even more!

The most transparent administration in history transparently fires someone for being transparent.
