Pelosi: Just “fix the technology, and let’s not get too bogged down in what happens if they’re not able to fix it”

posted at 8:01 pm on October 23, 2013 by Erika Johnsen

It’s so simple. How is it that nobody has thought of this before? The White House has been beating its brains out pressing every helper possible into service, and all along, the solution was staring them in the face: “Just fix it.”

Via The Hill:

That’s the boiled-down message coming from House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Wednesday, as Democrats are scrambling to put out the wildfire of criticism and attention aimed at the botched rollout of ObamaCare’s federal insurance website.

In a press briefing where reporters asked about no other topic, Pelosi acknowledged that the problems dogging users trying to enroll in insurance plans on the HealthCare.gov website are “beyond glitches.” But the trouble, she quickly added, “does not take away from the fact that we’re on a path” toward installing the many benefits under the law.

“Just fix it, so we can go forward,” she added. “Fix the technology, and let’s not get too bogged down in what happens if they’re not able to fix it.” …

“I have faith in technology and, while there are glitches, there are solutions as well. So I’m optimistic that we’ll be able to go forward on schedule,” she said.

Allahpundit already made a note of Pelosi’s “nay” on extending the enrollment period (though who knows if even her opposition will be enough to keep all of her House Democrats in line), but I thought this was a little too entertaining/facepalm-worthy as a lame liberal talking point to let pass. “Let’s not get too bogged down in what happens if they don’t fix it”? Uhm, you mean… disaster? Wherein the only people actually going through the trouble of signing up for ObamaCare are the ones whose high costs will topple the system? That sort of sounds like exactly what the administration should be worrying about, no? And on top of that, she blithely assuming that taking the time to try and fix the system is a even a wise recommendation, while tech experts are piling on with the evidence that it isn’t.

I’ve believed for some time that Democrats are incapable of leaving well enough alone and insist on ‘fixing’ things that aren’t broken until those same systems are irretrievably damaged. Democrats, progressives, do this because they desperately want to leave their mark, to be ‘innovators’, and simply because they didn’t create that which they so crave to ‘fix’. It is the method they choose to try and justify and validate their job.

Now comes Obamacare… the Democrat’s ‘fix’ for the best health care system in the world… the government’s mandatory enrollment site broken, according to tech experts, beyond redemption…upon which the entire health care system that comprises not only 1/6th of our total economy but also upon which the citizens of this nation depend for their quality of life and, indeed, their very lives… and Pelosi, who was a key player in ushering in this Democrat ‘fix’ for the health care system, now says “Let’s not get too bogged down in what happens if they don’t fix it.”

Governance… by Democrat.

Nancy Pelosi’s comment shows why every member of Congress and their staff (and President Obama and VP Biden!) should get their health insurance through the Obamacare Exchanges.

If our elected “leaders” were subject to the same health care system that they are inflicting on us lowly citizens, perhaps they would be a bit more willing to actually READ THE BILL and then make sure the technology actually worked.

I can’t stand listening to Pelosi any more than I absolutely have to, so I’m not going to play her clip to make sure, but I will assume she’s probably going on about the “freedom” from being worried about not having health insurance.

Well Nan, it’s going to be awfully hard to have this “beautiful thing” if you can’t actually get online and complete the sign up process. And while I know you Democrats think that you always get your way, and that Government can do anything and everything it needs to without fail, Reality sometimes has very different ideas. Simply wishing something and saying “make it so” doesn’t always work. I would think you would understand this, as many of your sympatico lefty bloggers claim to be part of the “Reality-Based Community.”

And of course, none of this takes into consideration how many families are going to have policies they liked and that made sense for them cancelled because of this “beautiful” law -only to have to attempt to navigate your balky, craptacular website to have the “freedom” provided by a crappier, and often more expensive, insurance product. At least they’ll have “freedom” from wondering how to spend some of their disposable income, as it will have already been spent complying with Obamacare. I’m not sure that many will agree with you that this is a “beautiful thing”, but go ahead and keep telling yourself this so you and your party can keep on patting yourselves on the back and proclaiming how awesome you all are.

I believe Kasich, who is no fool, actually looked at those regulations in O-care that nobody passing it bothered to read. And realized just how many people were going to lose their healthcare coverage as a result, plus all the people who aren’t covered now and won’t be when it goes into full effect.

Rather than be faced with an inbound health-care crisis in OH as a result of this crap sandwich, he decided that the “least worst” alternative was Medicaid expansion.

Will he take a hit for doing so? Yes.

If he hadn’t, would he and the Ohio GOP have taken major incoming when the O-care Charlie Fox had its inevitable results? You bet your sweet bippy they would, the LSM would see to that.

I mark this down as Kasich’s version of “prepping”. It may piss some people off now because he has “strayed from the One True Path”, but it also reduces the chances of a major meltdown when the sh!t hits the fan.

It takes brains and cojones’ to be an actual governor of an actual state. Kasich pretty definitely has both.

Indeed. It’s a sad ideology that produces people who view their fellow Americans as units and the vast sums they spend to achieve their political goals as meaningless.

“Fix the technology, and let’s not get too bogged down in what happens if they’re not able to fix it.”

Nancy-poo was never really good at details. If it can’t be “fixed”, Nancy will just smile and say “write a check”.

In this corner. Industry experts ready to call time of death.

In the opposite corner. Nancy Pelosi thinking that elves will come in the night and solve the problems or something.

Choose your side.

Does he have time for this to all become clear? It seems that a lot of it will take time to play out.

Pelosi can afford to ‘not get bogged down in what happens if it doesn’t get fixed’ because she has a platinum health care plan for life and enough money to buy anything that might not be covered.

It is glib and arrogant of her to suggest that we shouldn’t worry about what happens if ‘it’ doesn’t get fixed. But then… it’s not her life that’s being gambled on the outcome.

Immigration is going to be his “squirrel” for Obamacare? Yep, lets add some more folks who can’t get on the website, let alone find a doctor.

People are not going to care about giving amnesty to illegals when they get cancellation notices from their insurance companies and/or have marathon sessions trying to get into HealthCare.gov.

This fiasco is nothing more the latest shining example of the US Government at work. The problem will be fixed or just fade away from view. But rest assured you are witnessing what goes on day in day out 2/7 in everything this government does. The waste, corruption, and incompetence is rampant in every thing it does. From food stamps to drone strikes. If you think the Obamacare roll out is an anomaly then your a fool.
