Juan Williams: You know, it’s the GOP’s fault that Healthcare.gov flopped

posted at 8:41 am on October 23, 2013 by Ed Morrissey

Juan Williams has a clear grip on responsibility for the failure of a program that got passed in Congress with no Republican votes, and implemented with no Republican management in a Democratic administration.  Williams claims that the White House would have delayed the rollout of ObamaCare’s exchanges except for the opposition of the GOP to the program as a whole. As a result, Williams argues, Barack Obama and Kathleen Sebelius had no choice but to lie about the exchanges and let it unfold.

Come on — you knew the media would eventually get around to this argument.  You just didn’t expect to hear it first on Fox (via Twitchy):

Stephen Hayes was amazed … and not in a good way:

Follow the link back to Twitchy to catch the screencap.

My Townhall colleague Dan Doherty scoffs:

The idea that Obama refused to enact a sweeping delay of his signature legislative achievement because of Republicans is an obvious red herring. The reason The One won’t delay Obamacare is quite simple: He feels he’s “won” this battle — in other words, he defeated Governor Mitt Romney in 2012 and the ACA was ruled constitutional by the High Court. Case closed. Therefore, any attempt by Republicans to amend or delay or defund his Big Government achievement is a non-starter. He’s made that quite clear.

By the way, the Obama administration knew full well that the website did not and would not work. They tested it and (surprise!) there were all sorts of problems with it.

And actually, the issue came up even earlier than that, as Jeff Dunetz reminds us today.  In early August, the Inspector General warned that the system testing had been insufficient, and that the “margin for error” had disappeared:

The federal government is months behind in testing data security for the main pillar of Obamacare: allowing Americans to buy health insurance on state exchanges due to open by October 1

The missed deadlines have pushed the government’s decision on whether information technology security is up to snuff to exactly one day before that crucial date, the Department of Health and Human Services’ inspector general said in a report.

As a result, experts say, the exchanges might open with security flaws or, possibly but less likely, be delayed.

“They’ve removed their margin for error,” said Deven McGraw, director of the health privacy project at the non-profit Center for Democracy & Technology. “There is huge pressure to get (the exchanges) up and running on time, but if there is a security incident they are done. It would be a complete disaster from a PR viewpoint.”

We’re still not sure whether those bugs still exist.  The performance of the website hasn’t provided any basis for confidence in the competence in any other area.

Red Herring #2 in today’s WSJ;

Utah Senator Pays Price for Shutdown

Really WSJ? Mike Lee is “paying a price” by standing up for what his constituents want and the fact that Barack Obama tried to make them pay for expressing their collective opinion on a matter involving our government?

Let’s see what the margin is when Mike Lee gets reelected.

You aren’t alone. Williams blows whichever way the wind blows and on which FOX show he spouts off. The same goes for the bilious blowhard Bobby Beckel.
Williams is semi-educated and semi-articulate. Beckel is a bonafide buffoon.

Juan is far ahead of whoever’s in second place in the race to be the most ungrateful piece of horse excrement on the planet. Fox gave him a chance most people never get, and paid him hugely to boot.

What does Fox get for its generosity? Essentially, a field agent for NPR doing live shots from inside the studio.

And that Kirsten broad has to go. I understand fair & balanced but at least put somebody articulate on the left side. I can find cliche robots anywhere; don’t need Fox for that.

platypus on October 23, 2013 at 9:14 AM

Fox is starting to remind me of the website Little Green Footballs. It starts out as one thing then morphs into a lefty propaganda piece. It’s not that bad at Fox yet, but with idiots like Williams, Powers, and Shep Smith they are getting there. I always just figured that Charles Johnson of LGF lost his mind but unless there’s something in the water over at Fox cannot explain the leftward tilt they are taking these days. If this continues then they, just like LGF will see ratings/traffic stop.

Juan Williams is wrong on this and so many things and it’s time for Fox to cut him from the line-up.

So, now it’s okay to knowingly roll out a disastrous law because of political reasons? Shame on both parties for putting themselves and the party first and forcing their failures on the American people. I had more respect for Juan Williams than this, but no more.

So Juan William’s theory is that Obama – who loves to reach across the aisle and compromise and strike sensible deals – couldn’t accept the GOP offer to delay ObamaCare for a year because he wanted the same thing?

For William’s theory to hold true Obama has to either be completely incompetent or he’s such a hyper-partisan he can’t accept a deal from the GOP that matches his own preferred course of action.

gwelf on October 23, 2013 at 10:31 AM

This is trial balloon season.
Liberal pundits will float as many lame excuses as they can finding out which ones the LIVs will swallow the easiest for the full-blown 2014 campaign messaging that will ramp up in the spring.

Come spring we’ll get a steady media narrative about corrupt and greedy insurance companies and private contractors who made government look bad and hate poor people and middle America. The government and the Obama administration will be the victim of sinister forces in the market, private sector, and the GOP.

I used to feel sorry for Juan after the NPR thing. Since that happened and Fox gave him a home he has become nothing more that a shill mouth piece. Sometimes I think he is going to listen to himself and say “did I just say that?” and correct his stance but it NEVER happens.

At this point, whenever Juan or Bill O. come on, I either turn it down or change the channel. I just cant handle either of them anymore.

Juans days are numbered though. There is a day coming when even the most loyal Lib will not be able to defend stances like Juan’s and he will have nowhere to go. To that, I say don’t go away mad, just go away!

I cannot for the life of me understand why O’Reilly has so many viewers. Squishy LIVs? Apparently, a lot of people believe that he speaks for “the folks”. Were it not for Dennis Miller, who never gets to finish a point, I wouldn’t watch the rerun in the middle of the night. Dennis Miller deserves his own show. It would put Jon Stewart to shame. Sadly, it might also mean a cut in salary.

Fiction is becoming reality as more and more of the lamestream media seem to envision their role and responsibility as becoming the living embodiment of the Orwellian ‘Ministry of Truth’

It’s if they see their role as to “rewrite history to change the facts to fit Party doctrine for propaganda effect.”

Juan is one of those ideology driven commentators who really believes that 2+2=5 when that equation is needed to fully explain the actions of the progressive-fascist Administration. He, and they, also seem to believe that the American citizen is so dumb and so disengaged that they will just accept 2+2=5 because a ‘smart’ person on TV said it.

You have to wait until the country’s destroyed before you can call it a failure.

For the true believer, the failure was only in the implementation of the program…the vision never leads to failure.

I attribute the Leftist mindset exemplified by this post to the decline of American education, and the failure of parents and teachers to inculcate in their children and students a love for the foundational American principles, as found in these classics:

“The Little Engine that Could” — surmounting difficulties through perseverance.

“The Ant and the Grasshopper” — survival through provident living.

“The Little Red Hen” — completing a task without the help of the lazy moochers.

and especially, in this case,

“The Carrot Seed” — achieving success through confidence in one’s actions, despite negative detractors.

Instead, the Left has promulgated a culture which lauds victimism and defeatism, privileges the improvident over the producer, redistributes the wealth to those who refused to participate in its creation, and blames everyone except those actually responsible for failure.

AesopFan on October 23, 2013 at 11:43 AM

It has not worked, it will never work. It violates the most fundamental laws of economics.

To a leftist, only the laws of physics are inviolable.

The laws of economics are also inviolable, but like the laws of common sense, true leftists refuse to accept those facts. They are, after all and according to them, the smartest people in the room.

Juan is just another apparatchik in the Administration’s Ministry of Truth.

Obama, the man who declared he would end ‘No-Bid’ contracts in government, failed to do any research on the company he eventually hired to build his Health Care web site and handed them a $632+ Million ‘No-Bid’ Contract. Had he done any research at all he would have learned:
o This same firm was hired to build Canada’s Health Care Web Site
— This company constantly missed deadlines
— This company constantly over-charged for services
— Unlike Obama, Canada kept close track of their progress and tested the system well before it opened the site for business. Just like with ‘OhBummerCare’, Canada discovered the company used antiquated software, all but non-existent Security software which would allow a 6th grader to hack the system and steal information.
— Canada finally FIRED this company for complete INCOMPETENCE

Kathleen Sebelius and Obama not only hired these guys, they refused to allow any other company to offer competing bids to the $632 million this one gave as an estimate.

easyt65 on October 23, 2013 at 1:30 PM

For the delivery system for Obama’s Legacy piece of Legislation, Obama did not aggressively seek out the best possible company to do the job, starting his legacy out on the right foot. No, they went out and found the WORSE possible company to do the job and agreed to pay them more than 10 TIMES what it would have cost other, better companies to do the job right.

There is evidence showing both Sebelius and Obama KNEW it was not ready, that the security was so bad personal information was in jeopardy, yet they refused to delay the opening day of the Web Site. They KNEW it was jacked up and yet refused to slow the ‘train’ down. If they delayed the start they egotistically feared the GOP would point to this delay as an example of how Obamacare was not ready for ‘prime time’…which it was!

More Americans will LOSE their Health Care Coverage due to this law than will sign up for insurance with Obamacare.

A record number 90 Million Americans are NOT working in this nation, the majority having dropped out of the Labor Force entirely. A huge reason for this is Obamacare and the mandates. Even the Labor leaders have called out these mandates as being responsible for businesses firing employees, destroying the 40-hour work week, and making American a nation more and more of PART-TIME workers!

So for anyone – ANYONE – to attempt to blame the GOP or anyone else for yet ANOTHER complete and utter failure by the Obama administration is BEYOND Partisan. It is ‘TREASONOUS’ to this nation because it is a coordinated effort to hide / cover-up Presidential national security-threatening, Un-Constitutional, & Criminal ignorance, incompetence, and/or treasonous malice!

easyt65 on October 23, 2013 at 1:30 PM

The color of your skin does not an American or a ‘good President make’! Handing out record-setting amounts of Food Stamps, Welfare, Un-employment, Obamaphones, etc does not excuse violations of the Constitution, crimes, foreign policy failures, dead Americans, targeting by the IRS, aiding the perpetrators of 9/11/01 take over their own country, the NSA spying not only on every American citizen but – as we know now – spying on the citizens & leaders of foreign nations – admitting to violating the law thousands of times a year in doing so. Obama’s ‘historical moment’ of being the 1st Black President means NOTHING to me. What matters to me is Obama is PRESIDENT, just like every President before him, and needs to be held accountable and to the same standards as every one of them. This has not happened due to the media and blacks/black groups all over the nation.

Shame on Juan Williams for allowing his opinion be made based off race…and he will never get me to believe otherwise….because ANYONE who blames the GOP for this DISASTER is full of shi’ ite. Had the shut down not happened, no company could have fixed these massive web site failures in such a short time, as they are talking it may take MONTHS to ‘un-f#@k’ Obama’s health care web site.

o $7 trillion added in 4 1/2 years through record-setting (‘monthly’, ‘annual’, & ‘total’) deficit spending … more debt added than from every US President from Washington to Clinton … 1st bill signed into law was a failed ‘Stimulus’ Bill costing $875 BILLION and containing over 7,000 pieces of DNC-sumbitted Pork.
– ‘Bush & the GOP’s Fault’

o Thousands of automatic weapons and grenades given to Mecian Drug Cartels, no ability to track the weapons, over 300+ – and growing – people dead as a result, to include a US BPA…the Atty General perpetrated 3 Felony Counts of Perjury before Congress to cover the scandal up — DOJ refuses to prosecute, Obama refuses to fire, so Congress Censures him, making him the 1st US Atty General to ever be Censured. Obama administration STILL refuses to obey a Subpoena demanding the release of documents. The DOJ’s motion to dismiss the Fast and Furious investigation was just denied by a judge.
– Obama had no clue – not his fault. It was Bush’s Fault!
** (Obama is right, this operation was introduced during Bush’s administration….but Bush REJECTED the idea because there was no way to track the weapons.

o Financial military support given to Al Qaeda, perpetrators of 9/11/01, to help them take over Libya. Although he had the right to use military force to help these terrorists without, but the War Powers act specifies a deadline, afterwhich a President must go to Congress and ASK for permission to continue the military campaign. Obama REFUSED to do so, thereby violating the Constitution / War Powers Act.
– NOT Obama’s fault….lost track of time. ‘Bush stole all the calendars out of the White House’

easyt65 on October 23, 2013 at 2:20 PM

o Obama administration hired an Al Qaeda-associated militia an hour away from the Benghazi Compound to protect Ambassador Stevens & other Americans…from AL QAEDA and other Jihadists. He refused to provide additional security even after 2 previous terrorist attacks – 1 that blew a 4-foot hole in the compound wall. Obama refused to provide additional security even after Stevens warned about the growing presence of Al Qaeda in Benghazi, after he warned of Al Qaeda flags now flying over Libyan government buildings, and after warning that a 3rd coordinated attack without additional security would result in his death.
– Wasn’t Obama’s fault….no one notified him of a problem while he was on his mnthly vacations, especially that $100 million tax-payer-funded vacation to Africa. Even if they had notified him of the need for additional security, money was tight and they just couldn’t afford it.

o The CIA testified they sent a report calling the Benghazi attack a TERRORIST attack within an hour of it beginning. The cable was sent to the WH WAR Room and to the State Department. The #2 Ambasador in Libya testified he personally talked to her and told her the Benghazi compound was ‘now’ under attack from Terrorists. The CIA testified that the WHITE HOUSE and the State Dept modified their report TWELVE TIMES….and as long as one month after Obama admits he knew this was a terrorist attack he was still publicly blaming a video….at and before the U.N. The WH orchestrated an entire dis-information campaign trying to cover up the scandal. We still to this day do not know where the President was while 20 Embassies throughout the Middle east was under attack – 12 overrun, while Ambassador Stevens was murdered and dragged through the streets, and while 2 Americans who fought for their lives for 7 hours waiting for help that would never come thanks to 2 ‘Stand Down’ Orders were betrayed and left to die.
– Who cares whose fault it was…”WHAT DOES IT MATTER?”

easyt65 on October 23, 2013 at 2:33 PM

O The IRS (along with the ATF, EPA, FBI, & DHS) was targeting Obama’s political enemies and threats to his 2012 re-election, ‘small rogue group of IRS agents’ proved to be a lie with the orders to do so went right to the ‘top’. Obama’s entire WH Staff, as exposed in live televised Congressional hearings, knew this was going on. Obama met with 2 key IRS leads/Reps in this scandal more than 2 50 times (altogether) during the height of the scandal, but ‘Obama knew nothing’. The IRS gave Mitt Romeny’s personal tax information to Obama’s re-election campaign manager – the data was used against Romney (for Obama’s personal benefit) during the campaign. It was even given to Harry Reid who illegally (CRIME) used it….but ‘Obama knew nothing’.
– Mitt Romney’s fault – If he had released every personal bit of information Obama’s ‘KGB’ would not have had to STEAL it. And if Conservatives simply did not oppose Obama they would not have had to have been PERSECUTED. (It is, reportedly, STILL going on today!)

o The DOJ spied on Editors, Reporters, and THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS. Once again Holder perpetrated a Felony Count of Perjury before Congress by telling them he never knew about the spying…only to have to admit that not only did he order it but he went ‘judge shopping’ to finally find a Liberal judge who would approve it.
– Not Obama’s fault…not even for holding HIS Attorney General responsible for consinuously BREAKING THE LAW! He has a lot on his plate and can’t be held accountable for EVERYTHING that goes on inside his administration/Cabinet!

easyt65 on October 23, 2013 at 2:42 PM

o It is disclosed that under Obama the Patriot act was massively changed, allowing enough of a loop hole for the NSA to issue a ‘broad-brush’ Subpoena on which he listed EVERY AMERICAN as a ‘THREAT TO THE NATION’ in an attempt to justify SPYING ON AND COLLECTING THE PERSONAL DATA/PHONE CALLS / E-MAILS / TEXT MESSAGES OF EVERY AMERICAN CITIZEN…EVERY DAY. The NSA admitted before Congress that they violate US Law THOUSANDS OF TIMES A YEAR in spying on Americans…and no change has been made to this ‘Orwellian-Nazi’ Obama spying program. NOW it was just disclosed that the Obama Administration / NSA has been spying on French citizens and VIPs/Government Personnel. Foreign relations have been damaged, and the world (ALLIES) is/are left wondering who else has this Dictator-wannabe been spying on.
– NOT Obama’s fault. The Patriot Act was created under the Bush administration and he should havd known that some Communist-tutored, Sociallist-studied, Racist Hate-Spewing America-Hating Pastor-mentored Liberal President would one day modify and abuse th program! If Bush had never allowed this program to be put into place this would nevcer have happened!

o No Budget passed, although required by law every year, in 7 years – not since Harry Reid took over leadership (and i use that term loosely) in the Senate.
– NOT Obama’s fault. Even though they could not pass a budget the 2 years they had a Super Majority in the House and Senate, Obama can’t (yet) pass his own spending budget.

o Downgrade of the US Credit rating after the last debt ceiling increase because S&P warned the Obama administration they needed to show in some way acknowledgement of the seriousness of our rising debt and the need for a change in policy to address it. Obama failed to do so, and the US’s credit rating was downgraded for the 1st time in US History.
– NOT Obama’s fault, as he demonstrated by sending the US govt after the S&P, proviing this was some type of ‘grudge’/'vendetta’ S&P had against Obama, the victim in this hwole thing.

o Obamacare: Yes Obama promised it would not cost one dime, would pay for itself, would REDUCE the deficit, would NOT cause Americans to lose jobs and/or insurance, wouould LOWER the cost of insurance, would NOT have ‘death panels’, would NOT include any taxes, and would work like a charm once begun….
– NOT Obama’s fault. He was undermined, undercut, by EVERYONE from the word ‘go’ – the Labor Unions, the GOP, the Insurance Companies, the businesses who had to fire so many people and destroy the 40-hr work week because of thoe mandates, the Americans who lost their jobs and who lost their insurance, the Americans who made a fuss about being forced to pay up to 70% of their millionaire politicians’ Obama health care premiums…they were ALL against him from the start! And the Obamcare web site would be working PERFECTLY now and the $632+ Million Obama paid to have it built would be darn-well worth it if it was not for the GOP shutdown of government!

Maybe we should ask Juan’s good friend Mary Katharine Ham where he gets that good weed he smokes?

Adjoran on October 23, 2013 at 3:08 PM

Isn’t it just about time for MM to roll in and eviscerate this idiot once again?

PJ Emeritus on October 23, 2013 at 3:52 PM

Juan is just missing NPR .. and keeps saying stuff like this so
he will get invited to the right parties …. he keeps hoping NPR will
call him back … FOX should bounce is leftist ass out in the streets
he can hook up with Olbermann and get their own talk show.

I do wonder what the Dems have on Roberts to cause him to flip.

conservative tarheel on October 23, 2013 at 4:41 PM

You just didn’t expect to hear it first on Fox

Er, why not?

At any rate, Ayn Rand had the whole lot of ‘em pegged dead on 55 years ago. Their hare-brained schemes that never work are always someone else’s fault.

Juan Williams, I can’t stand looking at your face. There, I said it.

DDay on October 23, 2013 at 6:00 PM

So, I’ve analyzed this. How would a “win for the Republicans” hurt Obama, if they wanted the same thing. How would what is stipulated as a delay become a complete loss? Wouldn’t the Dems have the numbers to resume Obamacare when they thought it was prudent? If they could open the government back on their terms, how is it that they would have to delay Obamacare indefinitely simply because they delayed it for a time?

This is all about appearances, it’s all about the lofos. Obama would look “weak” or Obama would look like he might have a chance at being a competent non-dictator who negotiated with someone for once–you decide.

“How could he let the lofos think he lost?!? By having a difference of opinion, the Republicans made him cook up a s— sandwich and feed it to America.

Guess we know what’s in it.

Is it any wonder that NPR tried to censor this moron.Everytime he opens his mouth he spreads more BS.Great for fertilizing your lawn, but sucks as a political analyst.
