Former community organizer: Ignore all those bloggers and activists, please

posted at 12:01 pm on October 17, 2013 by Ed Morrissey

Old and busted: Community organizing. New hotness: Listen to your elders! Barack Obama took the opportunity today to lay blame for Washington dysfunction squarely on where it most belongs … outside the Beltway:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUbWzkwGfgA

Sorry, wrong video:

“All of us need to stop focusing on the lobbyists, and the bloggers, and the talking heads on radio, and the professional activists who profit from conflict, and focus on what the majority of Americans sent us here to do,” Obama continued.

Obama went after what he called the “rhetoric” which “gets worse” annually, and for members to focus on where they agree. He cited a “balanced approach” to a budget process as one of these areas of agreement between Democrats and Republicans.

“Had one side not decided to pursue a strategy of brinkmanship, each side could have gotten together and figured out how do we shape a budget that provides certainty to businesses, and people who rely on government?” Obama said.

Hmmm.  Those darned bloggers … say, aren’t these people who actually send people to Congress and the White House?  And didn’t a Senate backbencher embrace them in 2007-8, and then again in 2012 in order to be able to stand at that podium? As for the “professional activists,” does President Establishment recall what he did with his 2012 presidential campaign?  Do the letters “OFA” ring a bell?

Too bad he didn’t take his own advice in 2007. He could have saved us a lot of bother.

I’ll ignore that “people who rely on government” remark for now although that’s a big f’ing problem. But isn’t this the same d-bag who said publicly over and over again that he refused to negotiate over the debt ceiling and CR?

Okay, maybe one bit. He’s up 2% in approval from the beginning of the slim down (from 41% to 43%, but waaaay down from the end of last year when he was at 54%); and his disapproval has gone from 52% at the beginning of the slim down to 51% as of 10/15. He still fails to impress a majority of Americans these days, which makes him less than useful in 2014 Congressional campaigns.

“All of us need to stop focusing on the lobbyists, and the bloggers, and the talking heads on radio, and the professional activists who profit from conflict, and focus on what the majority of Americans sent us here to do,” Obama continued.

Lobbyists? Like the dozens in your administration?

Activists who profit from conflict? Like yourself? Your mouthpiece Dan Pfeiffer referred to the president’s political opponents as terrorists and Democrats in general called them anarchists and suicide bombers.

“Had one side not decided to pursue a strategy of brinkmanship, each side could have gotten together and figured out how do we shape a budget that provides certainty to businesses, and people who rely on government?” Obama said.

Each side could have gotten together? For a budget? Harry Reid has refused to create a budget for 4 years. He’s refused to go to conference on a budget except for the last several months with attached conditions. And you and Reid both stated you would not negotiate during a “shut down” but that’s the only option you’ve given the GOP since refusing to allow regular order to move forward.

Wow, here’s a comment from my local paper. Where do these people get this stuff?

How is life in your fact-free universe? The deficit has dropped over the past 4 years at the fastest rate in US history. It is now only half of what it was when Mr. Obama inherited the mess left behind by Bush’s disastrous war in Iraq and foolish tax cuts that benefited only the wealthy.

SailorMark on October 17, 2013 at 12:25 PM

This is why Obama is so upset. I’m sure this idiot got that propaganda from a blog somewhere.

But hey, those Tea-Party Rethuglicans didn’t pass some legislation we wanted, which is really the same thing.

I looked up the 10 symptoms that you may be in a cult.

1. Are members expected to obey the leader without question at all times?

2. Do the group members show a lack of humor? Are they unable to joke about their membership in the group?

3. If retreats or residential programs, or group living are involved does the food available have a low protein content and a poor nutritional value?

4. Does the group leadership benefit financially while ordinary group members suffer?

5. Does the group promote an “end of the world” or “something great is about to happen” attitude?

6. Are group members and leadership unwilling to acknowledge the legitimacy of other groups?

7. Is there an “Us against Them” mentality?

8. Does study within the group involve listening to long repetitive lectures, especially under conditions of physical duress (e.g., tired from physical work, seated for long periods without breaks, run-down from poor diet)?

9. Is one of the main priorities for group members the recruitment of new members?

10. Do group members describe their reasons for being in the group, and the benefits that membership provides only in vague generalities?

Sounds like Obama, OFA, their trolls and the media.

Winning elections does not mean that you can govern… Example Obama…

Winning elections by having every parasite in the country comes out from their sh*thole and vote for you party does not mean that you won the country, only the producers count in the country, not the parasites… A majority of the voters who voted for Obama are parasites living on the tax payers expense directly or indirectly… In fact half of the democrats voters do not want to live or be anywhere close to the other half of the democrat voters… I am certain that you “lostmotherland” like every white liberal will find every possible way to avoid being anywhere close to the “undesirable” people… However the irony is that without the “undesirable” people your democrat party cannot win a single nation election, ever…

mnjg on October 17, 2013 at 12:39 PM

Obama and the Dems can say what they say with a straight face because they believe (possibly correctly) that the majority of the public are too stupid to se through their BS. Republicans on the other hand still have a lot of respect for the public’s intelligence.

neuquenguy on October 17, 2013 at 12:39 PM

Well, you know, now that he IS the establishment, there’s no more use for “outsiders.”

Just another case of “I won. Shut up now.”

Man, did those poor stiffs in the audience look bored to death. I almost felt sorry for them, except that most of them probably voted for this idiot.

The man who used the IRS to silence dissent to win an election.

I guess he learned the value of actually being in office.

Too bad the right can’t figure out how that works and actually try to win.

petunia on October 17, 2013 at 12:39 PM

Okay. So here’s what the GOP should fight going forward.
1) Any union strike. As Obama put it, “And — and I think most people understand that. I mean, you know, I — I was at a small business the other day and talking to a bunch of workers, and I said, you know, when you’re at the plant and you’re in the middle of your job, do you ever say to your boss, you know what, unless I get a raise right now and more vacation pay, I’m going to just shut down the plant; I’m not going to just walk off the job, I’m going to break the equipment — I said, how do you think that would go?
They all thought they’d be fired. And I think most of us think that. You know, there’s nothing wrong with asking for a raise or asking for more time off. But you can’t burn down the plant or your office if you don’t get your way. Well, the same thing is true here. And I think most Americans understand that. All right?”
2) The employer mandate should be eliminated. The lobbyists (“business leaders”) shared their concerns with the President and the President capitulated.
3) Green Energy and the Pipeline. Again, this President is relying on lobbyists (cronies) and environmental “professional activists” to thwart one project in favor of their dreams.
The GOP need to run these videos and show how the income disparities have grown under Obama and how certain entitlement programs are losing money to his reckless gambling.

For being on the winning political side our trolls have really been lackluster the last several weeks.

They can’t sustain an argument – usually they are all to happy to push their bad ideas for page after page of comments. They seem very dispirited and even more incoherent than usual.

gwelf on October 17, 2013 at 12:41 PM

This is all so depressing.

My leftist relatives, unable to internalize the failure of Obama and leftist policies, seek to blame the “fat rich white man’s club” or system, asserting that Obama has simply become a tool of capitalism gone amuk, an extension of George Bush. The denial is awesome. These are “educated” people — Harvard degrees. But their political sense is juvenile, an incoherent slurry of love of affluence and an avowed but totally abstract love of 1960s radicalism. And no matter how badly Obama does, they would still vote for him. Nothing makes sense in what they say, and they are unreachable through common sense. The more sense I make, the more the evidence piles up, the angier they get, the more wedded to denial. I take this as a microcosm for what many are experiencing, and cannot guess how it will have a good end.
