Open thread: Sunday morning talking heads

posted at 8:01 am on October 13, 2013 by Allahpundit

Shutdown fee-vah on the Sunday shows this morning, and as you might expect, the guest rolls are full of Cruz critics. Bob Corker will headline “Fox News Sunday,” Kelly Ayotte (who reportedly confronted Cruz at a GOP caucus meeting last week) will appear on “Face the Nation,” and ol’ Maverick himself will get the spotlight on the same show to try to outdo his latest magnum opus. Even Senate chaplain Barry Black will be on to beg for divine intercession in ending the stalemate. As for Cruz’s and Mike Lee’s conspicuous omission, is that because they turned down invites to be on or because the shows’ producers decided that an argument for extending the shutdown wouldn’t fit with this week’s “theme”? It can’t be that they were snubbed just because they were on recently; if that were the rule, we wouldn’t have to endure 52 Sundays of McCain each year.

Elsewhere, Newt Gingrich will appear on “Face the Nation” and “State of the Union” to argue that the impact of the ’95 shutdown on the GOP has been wildly overstated. Hmmmm. The full line-up is at Politico.

Yeah, tell me about it. I’ve been arguing back and forth with one of the ex-wives (yeah there’s a few) on FB over this. She’s a diehard O supporter who’s been posting how it’s all the GOP’s fault and the Pubs want to starve children, etc. Pathetic. So glad I corrected my mistake years ago by kicking her azz to the curb. Did I mention she’s never worked a day in her life?

And that combination would probably kill me. You’re not worth crossing the street for, let alone dying for, John McLame. So no thanks to the Sunday shows today.

As for Cruz’s and Mike Lee’s conspicuous omission, is that because they turned down invites to be on or because the shows’ producers decided that an argument for extending the shutdown wouldn’t fit with this week’s “theme”?

One of the themes in the WaPo this morning is that the GOP must smite Cruz and Lee for their irresponsible shutting down of government. I’m sure that is what Dems McCain, Corker, and Ayotte will tell us also.

Happy Nomad on October 13, 2013 at 10:03 AM

It’s the shutdown that never was except for cemeteries, monuments, and natl parks. I’m sure the IRS was still up and running. Prezzy Barrycade can’t even run a shutdown. Zion NP is mostly open again and when more states open their natl parks, the regime will lose even more leverage. What’s troublesome is the debt ceiling thingy. Now they’re claiming we could cause the whole world to collapse. Must be the plan to create the one world govt with you know who in charge.

Doocey also mentioned that there are new signs in place declaring that the WWII Memorial is closed except for First Amendment purposes. Which begs the question, if the government is shut down, who prints the new signs?

On Fox News Sunday, the panel was just accepting the polls they showed on the screen regarding republican approval, meant 62% of the people think the GOP should be more like the liberal mainstream/more moderate, and not 62% of respondents hoped that the GOP would rescue them by now. (9% of respondents had no opinion. None. 49% had an unfavorable view of the democrats.) I hate these statistical polls, they are intended to massage opinons, and I always look them up. The survey said:

Next, we’d like to get your overall opinion of some people in the news. As I read each name, please say if you have a favorable or unfavorable opinion of these people — or if you have never heard of them.

From Gallup: “Self-identified Republicans are more than twice as likely to view their own party unfavorably (27%)”

This does NOT mean that they want them to jump in bed with Harry Reid and the progressives, it means a lot of them want them to be tougher. The media does not say that a 49% approval rating means that democrats should act more conservative to improve their number, although it is my opinion that it would help.

This SURVEY was of Adults, not registered voters, not likely voters. And the title of the survey has something to do with crime, but the only question they are revealing in the four page doc is political party impressions…

From Gallup:

Samples are weighted to correct for unequal selection probability, nonresponse, and double coverage of landline and cell users in the two sampling frames. They are also weighted to match the national demographics of gender, age, race, Hispanic ethnicity, education, region, population density, and phone status (cellphone only/landline only/both, and cellphone mostly). Demographic weighting targets are based on the March 2012 Current Population Survey figures for the aged 18 and older U.S. population. Phone status targets are based on the July-December 2011 National Health Interview Survey. Population density targets are based on the 2010 census. All reported margins of sampling error include the computed design effects for weighting.

In addition to sampling error, question wording and practical difficulties in conducting surveys can introduce error or bias into the findings of public opinion polls.

“Meet the Press” on NBC

Two socialists, two liberals, and a Rainbow Republican. No conservatives invited.

“Face the Nation” on CBS

Three RINO centrists, a liberal and a has-been. No conservatives invited.

“This Week” on ABC

Three leftists, a RINO, a conservative (ding, ding, ding! 1st of the day!), and a persecuted Christian propped up to criticize conservatives. Just guessing on that.

“Fox News Sunday” on Fox

Center, left-center, right-center, conservative. Journalism, again. The only place it can be found.

“State of the Union” on CNN

Three liberals, a RINO, a has-been, and a Libertarian.

MEChA TV — proudly racist, as always.

Conservatives, as every single week in Propaganda World, is offered as a fringe political sect, if at all.

As you show, low information voters make up the largest segment of any poll of American “adults”. These are the uneducated and apolitical – far and away the most victimized by the Propaganda Machine. It was designed for these dopes.

They do not understand propaganda as simple as the ubiquitous/juvenile Fern Gulley plots, the rank partisanship of all political references in TV and movies (simple: GOP bad, DNC good), or the transparent demonization of Tea Party types in every situation.

I know — you would think that anyone who doesn’t see this must be functionall retarded, but I know lots of people who are not stupid and don’t want politics in their cops and robbers TV, and simply refuse to believe that it’s in there. Self-delusion is powerful.
