Video(s): Bruce Braley’s terrible, horrible, no good very bad day

posted at 8:31 am on October 12, 2013 by Jazz Shaw

Congressman Bill Braley really wants to be the next Senator from Iowa. This won’t come as a newsflash to anybody who follows politics in the Hawkeye State, always in the eye of political watchers around the nation, and in fact he’s been gathering headlines while running up an early lead in fundraising. But given the rather conservative to small-L libertarian leanings of Iowa, one might wonder why it should be a given in the mind of the media hive that Bill is on some sort of glide path to victory there.

The Shutdown Monster has been allowing the tide to go out on a number of politicos, allowing us to see exactly who was or wasn’t wearing a bathing suit, and Congressman Braley is no exception on this front. When put to the task of identifying some of the horrors being inflicted upon Americans by this mess, Bill was quick to come up with an answer. He’s having to wash his own towels at the gym.

They must not have been down to the gym lately. There’s hardly anybody working down there. There’s no laundry service, so we’re doing our own laundry down there. And we pay a fee to belong to the House gym! So this is no different than if you’re working at an employer that offers a wellness program that you pay a fee to belong. That’s what we do there.

You may not often find yourself agreeing with Jimmy Kimmel, but even he couldn’t resist this.

That’s some serious pain that the wannabe Senator is suffering through, and he’s doing it all for you, people! Of course, if he really wanted to examine who is suffering under this fiasco, he might want to speak to some veterans.

The House already passed the Honoring Our Promise to America’s Veterans Act. One imagines that if Bruce Braley spent more time finding a way to get Harry Reid to allow a vote in the Senate on something of real value he might be taken more seriously, no? He wants to represent hundreds of thousands of veterans in Iowa if he’s elected to the upper chamber. Perhaps he can spend a bit more time working for those who have served our country and are currently being ignored and a bit less about the towel boy not showing up outside the showers.

Great Jimmy, would you have mentioned his name and party of he were a conservative?

smoothsailing on October 12, 2013 at 8:36 AM

…he’s probably a nudist anyway…the MSM just hasn’t reported it!

KOOLAID2 on October 12, 2013 at 8:37 AM

So, my point Mr. Shaw is that he doesn’t actually mock Braley at all. He mocked Congress. LIV libs will immediately assume some Conservative complained.

smoothsailing on October 12, 2013 at 8:39 AM

Given that LIV education is part of this site’s mission, it might have been advisable to spend a few electrons and identify his party affiliation here. Strange to say, most people have no idea who Bruce Braley is.

Zumkopf on October 12, 2013 at 8:52 AM

Seriously, have you ever met anyone wearing one of those ’90′s yellow “power ties” that wasn’t a crapweasel?

M240H on October 12, 2013 at 9:06 AM

What a POS. For $260 a year, which I’m sure is heavily subsidized, this clown expects towel service? That might have been a stiff annual fee…about 25 years ago. What an a**hole.

The GOP needs an add with a bunch of salty, old WW II vets laughing at Braley’s comments and telling him to tell Obama to open up their “f*ucking World War II memorial.”

BuckeyeSam on October 12, 2013 at 9:14 AM

Jazz, twice in the article you refer to him as “Bill”. His name is Bruce. I point this out because this buttnugget is my congressman and I don’t want any confusion as to what a jerk he is.

banjohack on October 12, 2013 at 9:16 AM

Just another career politician. Waste him.

HiJack on October 12, 2013 at 9:18 AM

The commercials write themselves.

“If you think the Senate is ok but it just doesn’t have enough self-important, spoiled jerks who think they should be treated like royalty — then vote for Bruce Braley!”

Bruce “Hey, a little help with this laundry please?” Braley … for United States Senator.

Jaibones on October 12, 2013 at 9:18 AM

OOPS, it’s really three times.

banjohack on October 12, 2013 at 9:18 AM

Maybe Rahm Emmanuel can fill in as a towel boy. He likes hanging out in the men’s shower.

Flange on October 12, 2013 at 9:21 AM

What! No towels in the Congressional Gym? Oh the horror!
They might just have to bring and wash their own. I have always.
I wonder … are those CongressCritters “hawks” or “chicken hawks”?
♫♪ Mommas don’t let your babies grow up to be in Congress ♫♪
What a stupid thing to say. He’ll fit right in with his Komrades in the Politburo.

They only pay 260/year?
Seriously, if that is all they pay, they should be washing the towels.
What happens to these clowns when they move to Washington?

Yet another example how the D.C. Beltway is a swamp; inside a bubble; wrapped in an echo chamber.

Keep it shut down 17% of the time. These morons can do less damage that way.

My son who is in the Marine Corps has to pay $50/month for gym fees and he has no towel service.

Members-Only House Gym Subsidized by Taxpayers
June 14, 2011
By JAKE TAPPER
**************

VIDEO:

Rep. Anthony Weiner, D-N.Y., admitted to sending lewd photos of himself to multiple women, however for some members of Congress the issue isn’t only the photos, but where they were taken: the members-only House gym.

ABC News was not allowed to enter either the House or Senate workout facilities, but those who have say they’re both equipped with flat screen TVs, workout machines and a swimming pool.

House reps and senators justify the perk by saying important work gets done there. In March 2010, Rep. Eric Massa questioned the locker room etiquette of then White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel.

“I’m sitting there showering, naked as a jaybird and here comes Rahm Emanuel, not even with a towel wrapped around his tush, poking his finger in my chest, yelling at me because I wasn’t going to vote for the president’s budget,” said Massa.

Vice President Joe Biden works out at the gym, where he talks shop with senators.

The gyms are kept out of plain sight. There are no signs outside the doors of the gyms; the only way to get inside is for members to get buzzed in. Celebrity fitness guru Tony Horton of P90X fame says he trained a bunch of congressmen at the House gym, including Reps. Weiner, Paul Ryan, R-Wis., and Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif.

“You know Anthony Weiner. He’s hard core,” Horton said to the Wall Street Journal before the scandal broke.

And what does it cost for members of Congress to belong to such a place?

For them, not much. Members of the House pay $20 a month, senators pay $40 a month, fees subsidized by taxpayers. Government officials refuse to reveal the true cost of running the House’s “wellness center.”

And how much does it cost us? We could not get an answer, and the costs appear hidden in the Congress’s budget.

“We do not provide information on the House gym for security purposes,” said Eva Malecki, a communications officer for the architect of the Capitol.

“You get the feeling like they just don’t get what’s going on out there in the real world when they have all these perks at their fingertips,” Leslie Paige, a spokeswoman for the watchdog group Citizens Against Government Waste, told ABC News. “The gyms and the hair care and all the parking facilities that they have … they’re really living a different life than the average American.”

All while members of Congress discuss reducing the deficit by cutting various benefits and services for the American people. Call it pumping irony.

So he’s responsible for Weiner’s non-existent, concave pecs?
That, I posit, is not a resumé enhancer! Only in D.C. on OUR dime.
Besides, how did the Weiner get an erection in the House Gym?
Humma Humma, eh Huma? Her ‘man’ has been peeking at other men too I suspect.

However, it must have come as a newsflash for Jazz, since he couldn’t even get the Congressman’s first name right.

steebo77 on October 12, 2013 at 12:26 PM

If you’re paying less than $1/day for a gym membership, that’s a pretty good deal.

22044 on October 12, 2013 at 12:30 PM

Hey Jazz, any chance you could have mentioned what party this clown belongs to, somewhere in your write-up? I read through it 3X and couldn’t find it anywhere and finally Googled the guy.

This post sucked.

For a political blog to post a story and not tell the party of some back bencher pol is like a sports blog reporting on a game by telling the score of only one side… Texas played OU today. OU scored 17… What a game!… What’s up with that?

“We do not provide information on the House gym for security purposes,” said Eva Malecki, a communications officer for the architect of the Capitol.

So the only thing keeping Al-Qaeda from our shores is concealing the annual budget for the Congressional gym. Thank God this secret has been preserved despite the hardship of the shutdown.
