What a coincidence: Single ObamaCare success story is … OFA volunteer

posted at 8:01 am on October 4, 2013 by Ed Morrissey

Allahpundit told the story yesterday about how our intrepid national media searched high and low in this nation of 330 million people to find someone, anyone who could figure out how to actually buy coverage through the ObamaCare exchanges.  After putting out an SOS, the Washington Post finally found Chad Henderson, and so did the Wall Street Journal, Chattanooga Times/Free Press, the Huffington Post, and even “POLITICO!“, as Henderson himself announced later yesterday.  That had Mediaite’s Noah Rothman a little suspicious:

“Something major happened to me today,” Chad wrote on his Facebook page on Thursday. “I get off of work and find that I have 120 new notifications on my phone. Come to find out…. a few of President Obama’s top advisers had shared my ObamaCare enrollment story with their Twitter followers and I had received much positive feedback along with some hateful feedback.”

Long story short: they contacted me and my story will be published along with a video interview on the President’s official advocacy website, Organizing for Action, and could possibly make it on the White House website.

Hmm… Odd that your average, apolitical youngster would understand the distinction between OFA and the White House. He does list “political activist” as one of his professional skills. No matter. I’m sure the media outlets that have taken an interest in his background will vet his background.

Or would they? Rothman was convinced they would properly vet The Only Man In America With ObamaCare Exchange Insurance … at least until he wasn’t:

Chances are you will soon be hearing the name Chad Henderson and his heroic story of enrolling successfully in a health care exchange. His is a saga of hope and redemption. If Chad can do it, maybe the millions of other healthy young people needed to sustain this program can too.

UPDATE: It turns out Henderson’s knowledge of OFA was not the result of his astuteness or political acumen. According to his LinkedIn profile, he is a current OFA volunteer. Maybe those many media outlets who spoke with him will make note of this seemingly relevant fact.

OFA? You mean Organizing for America, which spent the last year stuffing e-mail inboxes with an avalanche of missives about just how easy and wonderful ObamaCare would be?  That OFA?

Yup:

henderson-linkedinIt’s not just OFA, by the way, but also his past record of Democratic Party activism that the media should have noted.  Henderson either is now or recently has been the President of the Walker County Young Democrats, depending on how updated his LinkedIn summary is.  Shouldn’t that have been disclosed along with the miracle of his successful registration this week?

But hey, the mainstream media has lots of editors and fact-checkers.  I’m sure they’ll get around to it. (via Doug Powers at the Boss Emeritus’ place)

I hope you’re right. Given how proud Chad is about his acting and singing, “server” for the Chattanooga Lookouts has multiple meanings.

As apainful as it is to answer this, I believe this pic is from the Duke-NC State game at a point at which my beloved Wolfpack was crushing Duke… only to later choke down the stretch.

I am in Delaware. A corporate, retirement, government state. Can’t be but a few thousand people interested in the insurance exchange, yet the site has been down since day one. Could it be that the White House told them to keep the sites down and don’t answer the phones so it will only look like every one is interested. This would be the same logic used in sequestering and the FPS closeings that we’re picked to give the most pain possible to the public.

It’s like this law is self-defending or something. I’ve tried to sign up for an account on the federal Obamacare site so I can see what my premiums increases would be (surrounded by liberal friends insisting this law will be great I’ve been waiting for this catastrophic moment for a long, long time)…..but the damn site keeps crashing on me and forcing me to start over. I’ve tried at least 3 times a day since Tuesday.

There is no way in hell I would enter any personal information into that web site until they provide convincing certification it is secure. It has to be the biggest hacker bait in history.

As of right this minute, I’m STILL getting this lovely message on the NYS site:

Attention:
Due to overwhelming interest in the New York State of Health, the Marketplace is currently experiencing a high volume of users. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and encourage you to try again later.

Why don’t they just make you sign up on days depending on the last digit of your license plate number, like they did with the gas crisis during the Carter Administration?

Would a business run its site this way to appear successful?

Why can’t it just be typical governmental incompetence?

Were your liberal friends able to log on? Maybe there’s a script that runs behind the scenes that cross-references your political affiliation and prioritizes the “D’s.”

If it craps out for them too, don’t be afraid to demand an apology from them.

Agents Ready — But Unable To Sell — On ACA Exchanges

Meeting with a health insurance carrier on day two of the Affordable Care Act’s health insurance exchange open enrollment period Wednesday, David Smith, vice president at Ebenconcepts in Morrisville, N.C., did not like what he was hearing.

The carrier, which Smith declined to identify, shared how one of its agents had attempted to enroll a client on the North Carolina health insurance marketplace website. Due to widespread technological issues [link to technology story], that agent was forced have the client complete their preliminary enrollment by phone.

The client was then directed to log back on to healthcare.gov to complete their plan selection. According to Smith, the client said, “I still want to make sure my agent gets paid on this because he’s been very helpful,” but, the person at the call center responded, “That’s not going to happen. He’s not going to get paid. In fact, you can’t even go into the process now and make sure that he gets paid. He’s out.”

“This is why they launched it 3 months before the insurance takes effect.” – Them

“You honestly think 3 months will cure what 3 years of preparation couldn’t?” – Me

I’m sure they’ll remain in denial to the bitter end, the best I can hope for is some embarrassed silence.

The photograph is indeed from a Duke / NC State game, but Duke was actually up 44-28 at that point. The original image has the score but it was later cropped presumably because it defeated the whole point.

Yup. I knew it didn’t sound right…

(His father) Bill told me that Chad had been looking into plans online. “He told me that there’s different plans. And we haven’t decided which plans to enroll in yet.”

I asked him whether he and his son had talked about going on separate plans, and he told me that, “We’ll probably go on the same plan, more than likely.”

RovesChins on October 4, 2013 at 3:46 PM

From RWM’s link:

In 2012, his treatment bill was more than $350,000. But because of his insurance, his out-of-pocket was only $4,500.

That’s about to change because Michael just got a letter from his insurance carrier saying as of January 1, he would be dropped from coverage because of new regulations under Obamacare. His doctor at the Mayo Clinic may be gone as well.

“Now it doesn’t mean I can’t go see my current doctor, but my $4,500 out-of-pocket, is going to turn into a minimum of $26,000 out-of-pocket to see the doctor that I’ve been seeing the last seven years,” he said.

Michael realizes millions of people will benefit from the coverage, but he wants them to realize that others are making sacrifices to make that happen.

He says that he and his wife will continue to look at their options, try and find a similar plan, and if they need to, they’ll pick up second jobs.

No one, at the moment, seems to be benefiting from these extortions (sacrifices are, by definition, voluntary).
