Ted Cruz: I feel like I’ve been on the floor in absentia with Dems “invoking my name as the root of all evil in the world”

posted at 6:01 pm on October 4, 2013 by Erika Johnsen

I confess that I don’t quite see the motivation for doing otherwise, because that would mean at least obliquely acknowledging that Republicans are in fact not blackguardly rapscallions whose singular goals extend no further than spitefully denying health insurance and food stamps to poor families while personally humiliating President Obama — and that ain’t gonna’ fly. I thank the senator from New York for his heartfelt concern for the Republican party, and I note that the senator from New York stated that I “have advocated shutting down the government.” That statement, unfortunately, is a flat-out falsehood, and I know the senator from New York would not do so knowingly. So, it must have been a mistaken statement, because throughout the course of this debate I have said repeatedly, in every context, we should not shut the government down. A shutdown is a mistake, and I very much hoped that the majority leader would not force a shutdown on this country. We are in a shutdown because the Democrats in this body have refused to negotiate, refused to compromise. And I would note as well, I am quite grateful for the majority leader’s admonition this morning towards civility on the floor, and the senator from Illinois’s admonition towards Rule 19. That it an admonition well heard, indeed, it was quite striking — you know, it has been several days since I have been to the floor of the Senate and yet, I feel that I have been here in absentia, because so many Democrats have invoked my name as the root of all evil in the world. And indeed, the same majority leader that gave an ode to civility, just a few days ago was describing me, and anyone who might agree that we should stop the harms of ObamaCare, describing us as “anarchists.” So I think the encouragement toward civility is an encouragement that should be heard across the board.

Cruz understands the old Hollywood axiom: “I don’t care what they say as long as they talk about me.”

Keep it up, Dems. If by some miracle this shutdown results in anything conservatives can call a victory, you’ve given him the credit for it.

Ted just schooled Harry.

I love how Reid can call conservatives anarchists, scoff at the very idea of funding medical research for children, and state that the US Senate will not negotiate on any legislation put forward to fund the government.

My prayer:

“Dear Lord, please help conservatives to elect more Ted Cruzes to the Senate in 2014 and beyond … until we replace the entire GOP Establishment members that are nothing but Democrat infiltrators…”

Senator Cruz, together with Senator Lee, have done in their first terms what the Senate GOP couldn’t do both as a majority and a minority… and that is to get Democrats rattled.

Now just imagine if the GOP had been fighting the Democrats in this manner since they took over the Senate. I bet we would have taken over Congress and the White House by now.

One side wants a shutdown, the other doesn’t.

One side needs to score political points to get a course correction on Obama’s second term, the other doesn’t.

One side needs to score political points for the 2014 midterm, the other doesn’t.

One side is focused on pushing an agenda, the other side is embracing fiscal responsibility.

One side follows the laws of the land, the other side will ignore laws that it finds inconvenient for it’s agenda.

One side is demonizing the other with vitriolic rhetoric, the other is trying to keep things civil.

One side wants to ensure there is pain so people get angry over the shutdown, the other side prefers to minimize pain.

One side is willing to negotiate and talk, the other side consistently reminds us that they will not negotiate or talk.

One side has offered concessions, the other side has not.

One side believes that this is supposed to be a government of the people, for the people, and by the people. The other side believes the role of the people is to serve the government.

The optics and positions are not difficult for middle America to see. Whether or not they care – is a very different question.

This is a good article on the debt ceiling:

Debt Ceiling Fights? Designed By The Founding Fathers

But, this part is not quite accurate:

From that point forward, there were 69 changes to the debt limit through the end of the 2007-2008 fiscal year, including the largest single-chunk increase, $984 billion in May 2003, as America borrowed to pay for wars in Afghanistan and Iraq while also cutting taxes.

From the Congressional Research Service:

On 02.17.09, the debt ceiling was increased by $789 billion (P.L. 111-5).

On 12.28.09, the debt ceiling was increased by $290 billion (P.L. 111-123).

On 02.12.10, the debt ceiling was increased by $1.9 trillion (P.L. 111-139).

On 2 August 2011, President Obama signed the Budget Control Act of 2011 into law, which increased the debt ceiling by $2.1 – $2.4 trillion in three stages. Upon his signature, the debt ceiling was increased by $400 billion. The second tranche of $500 billion was triggered on 22 September 2011. On 01.12.12, presidential certification triggered a third, $1.2 trillion increase on 28 January 2012.

Federal debt reached its limit on 12.31.12. ‘Extraordinary measures’ were estimated to allow payment of government obligations until mid-February or early March 2013. H.R. 325, which suspended the debt limit until 19 May 2013, was passed by the House on 01.23.12 and by the Senate on 01.31.13. Obama signed it into law on 02.04.13.

According to the White House Office of Management and Budget, those ‘extraordinary measures’ amount to about $550 billion, which means that $6.7 trillion has been added to the national debt under the Obama presidency and we now have an estimated $17.25 trillion national debt.

For those keeping score at home, that adds up to $5.929 trillion in debt ceiling increases and ‘extraordinary measures’ on Obama’s watch, which has lasted 4 years, 8 months, and 15 days so far.

B-, bu-, but, Ted Cruz is E-V-I-L!!!

CliffHanger on October 4, 2013 at 6:46 PM

Under Bush?

Per the CRS:

06.28.02: $450 billion (P.L. 107-199)

05.27.03: $984 billion (P.L. 108-24)

11.19.04: $800 billion (P.L. 108-415)

03.20.06: $781 billion (P.L. 109-182)

09.27.07: $850 billion (P.L. 110-91)

07.30.08: $800 billion (P.L. 110-289)

10.03.08: $700 billion (P.L. 110-343)

That totals to $5.365 trillion in debt ceiling increases over a span of 8 years.

Again, Obama has increased the debt ceiling by $5.929 trillion in 4 years, 8 months, and 15 days.

But, you see, according to JustTheЯ3t@rD, $5.929 trillion is 1/3rd of $5.365 trillion or something.

I work with the more conservative Congressmen here in East Texas as well as West Texas where the rancher are located. We also do work out of state for the Tea Party building conservative support in New Mexico where one of my grandfathers ranches is located. To many commie Democrats have moved in there from California as well as the one the dole kin of mine who stayed on the reservations for the old dirty blankets the commie Democrat buy their votes with.

We helped get the lady elected Gov. there with a rather large donation.

We only feed our own hay, we never took a investment credit on a new tractor or other equipment as we only buy used equipment.

We have never use one non citizen for labor.

Do not use ag deductions for real estate taxes.

Working hardest now to get conservatives elected to school boards they are the ones who ruin the children with all this commie crap in schools and the no grade for lazy kid crap.

Ted Cruz said the following:

“There are some Democrats, some in the media and some Republicans who portray a shutdown as a horrible calamity. I think the term ‘shutdown’ is a misnomer,” Cruz said Tuesday during a luncheon with conservative activists and bloggers at the Heritage Foundation. “It’s actually a partial, temporary shutdown. We have seen them before.”
These “partial, temporary” shutdowns, Cruz argued, happen “every single week on the weekend. Saturdays and Sundays we see temporary partial government shutdowns, and the world doesn’t end.”
A shutdown could even help conservative causes, Cruz added, pointing to balanced federal budgets that occurred after two shutdowns under former President Bill Clinton in the 1990s.”

Am I missing something? I thought Ted was advocating for a shutdown. It appears that he now knows nothing about who is behind the shutdown.

Mescalero/Chiricahua aka Jicarilla, southwestern New Mexico, on the West side of the Brokeoff Mountains 30 or so miles north of Dell City Texas is where the south entrance of granddads 100 secitons of dust and rocks and it takes a section to run two cows most of the time.

The old ones from the family “collected range found horses” in New Mexico and sold them to the U.S. Goverment at Ft. Sill Ok area.

We co-mingled with the Commance’, so we are a lot taller and with bigger build that most Apache…

No one had much use for the old ones, the white folks tried to run them off and the reservation ones took offence that they did not join up on the res’ with them.

Hopefully he will not end up costing the GOP the House of Representatives and/or the Senate.

Terrye on October 4, 2013 at 7:15 PM

If he does we should reward his effort with the Presidency.

Spent many a day in the Manzanos – Mountainaire north to ABQ. Comanche Canyon and Trigo Canyon mostly. Grew up with the Isletas – pueblos – mixed probably more than other pueblos. Always figured there was more to the story.

One thing is very clear, the commie Democrats do not know what to do about Ted Cruz telling the truth. So there only way at him seems to be to use the RINO’s to back stab Ted as much and often as possible. All the time they avoid a real one on one debate on the facts with him.

Only the msm keeps it from being known and seen by all.

He is on target and has been from the get go.

My wife and I know he and his dad, they do not back down and they only tell the truth.

Democrats have no idea how to handle that. The RINO’s have made it easy for the commie Democrat way to long.

APACHEWHOKNOWS on October 4, 2013 at 8:11 PM

Democrats love Ted Cruz…if they believed in God they would be thanking Him for sending them a guy like Ted to make it possible for Obama to save his second term…way to go Ted..with friends like you…I wonder what Ted is going to do with all the money he raised to defund Obamacare? Maybe he could give it to charity or something. That way it would not be a complete waste.

Hopefully he will not end up costing the GOP the House of Representatives and/or the Senate.

Look who wants to bend over and surrender. Big surprise. I’ve read your go along to get along rap for years here before I could comment back and tell you that there is finally a place for you, you twit.
There’s this guy who starts his commercial… “Hi, I’m Jon Huntsman and I’m a republican.” It’s just your speed, surrender monkey!
No labels! No balls! No scary people with backbones!

Do you know of “La Drones Peak” Northwest of Socorro NM, and maybe some of it’s “horse-trading history”?

oldroy on October 4, 2013 at 8:13 PM

Back off. I’m sending g him a Virginia ham and a dozen tamales. He’s all mine!

RovesChins on October 4, 2013 at 7:06 PM

He’s from Texas. You think your Virginia tamales are authentic? Ham yes. But I’ve got homemade New Mexico tamales. Homemade masa from scratch. Red and green chile from New Mexico. Even Texans defer to us on chile. Beat that you biatch!

oldroy on October 4, 2013 at 7:16 PM

Homemade pecan pie. And, I’ll throw in my ex-wife. I was going to fly down to pick up tamales, homemade in the kitchen of a little Mexican woman.
Red and green chili from New Mexico? You’re gonna get beat down if you try that past Fort Stockton.

Bradky of Bad Lands,

You miss your compter keys with your butter fingers?

Paraphrasing the current secretary of state, Ted was for the shutdown before he was against it.

Don’t want your ex-wife. One woman takes a lifetime to figure out. By then, you are on God’s good graces.

oldroy on October 4, 2013 at 8:17 PM

All I know of Socorro NM is that it is hot, nothing but cooled down hot rocks and everyone thinks there is no one else on the roads so they all run the stop signs.

If any horses get there they are broke down from the effort and just lay down and die seems to me.
