Harry Reid: No, we won’t agree to fund NIH in order to restart treatment for kids with cancer

posted at 3:21 pm on October 2, 2013 by Allahpundit

Via the Free Beacon, what’s the most amazing thing about this? That Reid gets a variation of the “why do you hate children?” question that’s typically reserved for Republicans? Or that he actually responds, when asked if he’ll agree to the House’s new bill to fund NIH in the name of keeping clinical trials for kids with cancer up and running, “Why would we want to do that?”

Am I awake?

Remember, both he and Obama already approved a House bill on Monday that made sure troops would continue to get paid during the shutdown. They’re not opposed to small, targeted, piecemeal bills in principle, in other words; they’ve already showed that, if the politics of saying no are sufficiently toxic, they’ll agree to fund federal agencies whose sustained deprivation would lead to egregious outcomes. In fact, the core Democratic message about the GOP is that, in opposing ObamaCare, they’re trying to deny uninsured Americans treatment for their illnesses. So here’s Boehner and the House caucus trying to counter that with the same sort of piecemeal bill that Senate Democrats already passed two days ago, and Reid decides that maintaining his “no negotiation” posture is worth telling cancer patients to chillax for awhile. Either he’s really committed to not giving an inch or he’s betting big that the media won’t punish him for taking this position. Normally I’d say that’s a smart bet, but the fact that CNN is asking this question at all makes me wonder.

Update: Indeed.

“Why would we want to help kid with cancer?!”

Harry Reid demonstrates just how much pain and suffering he and Obama are willing to put Americans through to get what they want. Pathetic!

Hey, he’s just following Cruella Sebelius’ lead. Kids that need lung transplants get condemned, too.

“Cruella Sebelius”-Heh, that’s good!

I Love it, it kinda feels all alinsky like….snickers
For one brief (I hope it’s longer) time we get to use their tactics back at them. How’s it go…hoisted :)

Alinsky Rules For Radicals, Rule #4:

4.“Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules.”

Make Obama life up to his own promise to

“go line by line through every item in the federal budget and eliminate programs that don’t work, and make sure that those that do work, work better and cheaper…”

Remember when Obama criticized President Bush because the national debt had risen from $5 Trillion to $9 Trillion (an increase of $4 Trillion)?

Well, Obama’s own OMB estimates that the FY-end 2013 gross federal debt is now $17.25 Trillion (an increase of $8.25 Trillion!)

Obama has already added more than twice as much debt as was added during the entire Bush administration.

It’s time to “go line by line through every item in the federal budget and eliminate programs that don’t work”.

And oh, by the way, one of the programs that doesn’t work is…

Obamacare!

This may be the single best political idea I have heard in years. Keep the House in session round the clock introducing and voting on individual funding bills Have the GOP vote aye on a few they don’t like just to humiliate the Dems. Keep the CSPAN cameras on and make sure the recorded votes are published on line as soon as tabulated.Rebuild the federal govt piece by piece. And when Dirty Harry says who gives them the right, the response is The Constitution of the United States.

It’s called going line by line through every item in the federal budget and eliminating programs that don’t work, and making sure that those that do work, work better and cheaper.

It’s called doing exactly what Obama promised to do.

“I want to go line by line through every item in the federal budget and eliminate programs that don’t work, and make sure that those that do work, work better and cheaper…”

At first I thought this was going to be bad for the GOP, but if they keep sending separate spending bills like this, this is genuis. After all the caterwalling about saving one child from gun violence, then this…. it is hilarious to watch them try to dig out of there own crap… same with the WWII monument… how anyone can not see that as a complete and utter nightmare for the Obama admin is blind… keep them coming…

“At first I thought this was going to be bad for the GOP…”

The Dems and MSM did everything in their power to spread that perception. It was never the truth, but if the Dems could make Boehner believe it and cave at the 11th hour (as Boehner has done before) than the Dems would get exactly what they wanted.

Alinsky Rules For Radicals, Rule #1:

1.“Power is not only what you have, but what the enemy thinks you have.”

The truth is that what the Dems fear is having to actually do what Obama promised in 2008:

“I want to go line by line through every item in the federal budget and eliminate programs that don’t work, and make sure that those that do work, work better and cheaper…”

What he actually meant, and all Dems understand the ‘code,’ is
that he will go line-by-line through the federal budget and
increase spending and raise taxes to better redistribute
the wealth.

The programs that don’t work need more money.
The programs that Do work need even more money.

With that one statement, Reid has told us everything we need to know about his soul. It is doomed to hell unless he changes, and I really can’t see that happening.

theaddora on October 3, 2013 at 12:03 AM

Actual quote from Reid: “What right do they have to pick and choose what part of government’s going to be funded?”

Uhm… they’re the frakking House of Representatives! You know, the elected legislators in whom the Constitution vests the power of the purse? Not only do they have the right to choose what parts of government get funded, that’s their main job!

I keep thinking I can’t get any angrier at Harry Reid, and then he raises (lowers?) the bar yet again.

Shump on October 2, 2013 at 3:29 PM

I had to stop the video at that point when I first watched it. For the Majority Leader of the Senate to be unaware that the House actually does have the power to “pick and choose what part of government’s going to be funded” is an amazing thing.

Either he’s not very bright, or he’s just really hoping no one else is.

I hope that this video is aired 24/7 for the next ten years on C-Span. It is amazing. I can’t believe that Reid said this. We really must be winning.

The talking points being put out now is that Reid wasn’t actually responding to the reporter, but to Shumer who interjected a statement in-between Dana’s question and Reid’s scummy answer. Of course, one would have to say that Reid was questioning Shumer’s intelligence in order to hold that opinion.

These dogs always find an answer even if it means twisting their heads inside out.

Here’s one conversation from the local newspaper.
