Video: The freaky deaky Generation Opportunity anti-ObamaCare ads

posted at 11:21 am on September 19, 2013 by Allahpundit

Via Yahoo News, the hardest trick in making your case on health-care policy is first getting the public to pay attention. Mission accomplished. I laughed, but that’s because Uncle Sam here reminds me of the Burger King and the thought of the King hanging around exam rooms giving out prostate exams is funny and … oddly plausible, actually. You didn’t think he was crawling into bed with guys because he was that much of a fan of the Double Croissanwich, did you? An ironclad rule of advertising: If your mascot’s face is frozen in a maniacal plastic grin, he’s thinking about probing people. Hence the creepy/goofy effectiveness of this one.

Generation Opportunity is, by the way, funded in part by the Koch brothers, so as much as I wish them success selling the opt-out approach on college campuses — the fewer healthy young people buy insurance, the less money there’ll be to keep insurance companies solvent, and the more frantically O-Care backers will need to “repair” the law — they’re destined to be beset by leftist protesters shrieking about “the Kochtopus.” Ah well. If there’s any truth to the e-mail that InstaGlenn got this morning, the wheels will be flying off the ObamaCare train before the opt-out strategy ever becomes an issue.

I’ll file that in my “no shit sherlock” drawer. I’d think that an intellectual such as yourself would know all about Cloward-Piven, AP. It’s in full-force in every aspect of our lives today, from health care to the financial sector.

The look on the 2nd doctors face when the guy says “why not” is priceless.

VegasRick on September 19, 2013 at 11:34 AM

Meh. They’d have been made more effective by having the out take shots done with Uncle Sam unrolling a condom.

Al-Ozarka on September 19, 2013 at 11:36 AM

This so perfectly illustrates what a lot of us have known for a long time and it will elevate the conversation. As one tweeter pointed out–media like Jon Stewart and The Soup, among others I’m sure, will cover it. Wait a minute, I think I hear the eruptions of libturd heads exploding.

PackerBronco on September 19, 2013 at 11:42 AM

Creepy to the max, and funny as hell.

Conservchik on September 19, 2013 at 11:42 AM

This ad is inaccurate: The doctor doesnt even ask the patient if she owns any guns.

That aside, the ad is just awesome!

Valkyriepundit on September 19, 2013 at 11:42 AM

They should make a commercial where the “Uncle Sam doctor” is asking the patient all those intrusive questions the government is now requiring — e.g., do you keep guns in your home, how many sex partners have you had, etc. — and then have a split screen showing some hackers getting into the (insecure) government databases and stealing the patient’s personal information, while they laugh at it and talk amongst themselves about who they’ll be selling the patient’s personal information to.

Ads are created to catch attention in a very short time frame – these hit the mark. If they were like the prescription ads with all the words spewed forth like a auctioneer – public short attention span= tune out…esp LIV’s.

MontanaMmmm on September 19, 2013 at 11:49 AM

PERFECT.

Why weren’t these made and playing while they were trying to pass ObamaCare?

portlandon on September 19, 2013 at 11:50 AM

Great ads.

They should have another one with the rodeo clown wearing Obama’s masking looking at that woman’s vag area.

sentinelrules on September 19, 2013 at 11:50 AM

I don’t think they are as creepy as the Burger King ad’s, you know the ones with the “king” in them…THOSE were creepy.

JFKY on September 19, 2013 at 11:53 AM

They should have another one with the rodeo clown wearing Obama’s masking looking at that woman’s vag area.

Because that would be raaaaacist.

Wethal on September 19, 2013 at 11:53 AM

They need some ads in which the doctors ask all the intrusive questions.

http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2013/09/18/Obama-Administration-Will-Require-Doctors-To-Provide-Government-With-Americans-Social-And-Behavioral-Data

Hey, all thought liberals had the attitude that “it’s none of your business.” With Obamacare, “your business” will be everyone’s business–especially the government’s.

BuckeyeSam on September 19, 2013 at 11:54 AM

Doctors are now agents of the Government.

Remember that.

portlandon on September 19, 2013 at 11:57 AM

They need to do one where Sam pops up and starts asking questions:

“Do you have a gun in the house?”
“Do attend church regularly? If so, what do you pray about?”
“Would you say you normally drink more than 16 ounces of pop in one sitting?”
“Have you ever been to a Tea party rally?”
“Do you use electricity during peak hours?”
“Do you own an SUV?” “Is it a hybrid?”
“Are you sure about your current gender assignment?”
“Are bloggers journalists?”
“Would you mind if we finger printed and/or gave you a retinal scan?”
“Do you belong to a union? Well, a public sector union anyway?”

Free Indeed on September 19, 2013 at 11:57 AM

“Before we can approve your check up, do you belong to a union?”

Bishop on September 19, 2013 at 11:57 AM

Why weren’t these made and playing while they were trying to pass ObamaCare?

portlandon on September 19, 2013 at 11:50 AM

Actually, there was an ad running FOR BarkyCare (it used to run on Fox as a PSA) that was even creepier. It was a guy seeing his doctor on a stage in front of a full audience. As the doctor asked the guy medical questions people in the audience (doctors, nurses, etc.) would jump up and blurt out the guy’s medical information and past test results.

They ran this ad for a while before BarkyCare was finally forced through. Even lefties were creeped out by the ad … which is no mean feat, there. I have searched and searched for this ad but it seems to have been wiped from the internet. It was creepier than these ads, here, and it was produced by the douchebags who were FOR BarkyCare and the national socialization of health insurance/care.

ThePrimordialOrderedPair on September 19, 2013 at 11:57 AM

Obamacare would already be repealed, were it not for RINO/GOP collusion and cowardice. =/

Jeddite on September 19, 2013 at 12:01 PM

PERFECT.

Why weren’t these made and playing while they were trying to pass ObamaCare?

portlandon on September 19, 2013 at 11:50 AM

The legislation–interminable as it is–is only a fraction of the length of the creepy regs that HHS is issuing under the legislation’s authority. Sadly, the dust needed to settle on the legislation and then it had to be viewed in light of the regs that have been issued since enactment.

BTW: for the male’s exam, you just knew Uncle Sam would be snapping on that glove. Too bad he didn’t also hold up a sign that said “Turn your head and cough.”

One other thing, although the young woman in the first video is yummy, the ad makers should have considered using a Sandra Fluke lookalike and maybe even having the nurse say something like “The doctor will be with you shortly, Ms. Fluke.” Or, if they were afraid of a lawsuit for the use of her likeness, maybe they could have referred to the girl as “Julia.”

Forget defunding Obamcare. A win-win would be for the house would be to send to the senate a fully funded Obamacare with a rider to the spending bill that takes away all of Obamacare’s already awarded exemptions to it as well as put the entire federal government on the exchanges without subsidies. Then dare Harry Reid to spike it.

Bingo! That’s perfect. The procedures should all be done where everybody is sitting down, or waiting in line.

CommieCare means to hell with privacy – so let everybody see everything, while they’re waiting.

..the goal of the adverts was to get people to opt out of ObamaCare. Some folks they are trying to reach still love that rat-eared metrosexual — and, surprisingly, some may be Pelosi or Reid fans (as hare as that is to comprehend) — but if they refer to an evil, monolithic gummint ready to get its hands on your privates and instill fear in you, then they have accomplished their goal.
