Democrats leave committee hearing on Benghazi before victims’ families testify

posted at 6:41 pm on September 19, 2013 by Allahpundit

Via Katie Pavlich, I guess we’ve reached the point in the “phony scandal” messaging where they felt a bold signal needed to be sent. Even with Sean Smith’s grieving mother sitting right there at the witness table.

Two Democrats stayed behind to listen, according to Issa. The others were gone.

I’m looking for a comprehensive round-up of today’s hearing for you but the best digest I’ve found so far is the Twitter feed of the Weekly Standard’s Stephen Hayes, who presumably has a story in the works about this. For now, though:

The result, of course, was obstruction. Such is the state of the “phony scandal.” Via Mediaite, here’s Pat Smith recounting for the Oversight Committee what Hillary allegedly told her before the memorial service for her son last September. She’s made this accusation before but never in a setting as prominent as this.

Just came to this thread and I’m sure my feelings have been expressed already and more eloquently…

This is one of the most disrespectful, arrogant, condescending events I’ve seen in quite a while. What these congressional “leaders” did is absolutely, total, friggin’ bullhut!!!!!!!!!!! I’m going to keep the list of the names of these guttersnipes. I do NOT want to forget one of them. They all make me want to vomit!

I consider them to have spit in the faces of every Soldier, Sailor, Marine and Airman who lost their lives in the War on Terror. They’re abominable!

NavyMustang on September 20, 2013 at 1:31 PM

Seems to me that any Rs (and Ds) who were not there earlier had other commitments, and could not be present for the hearing in its entirety. But any Ds (or Rs) who did not return after the break with full knowledge of who was scheduled to testify decided they did not want to be there for that portion of the hearing. One or two who dont return usually has a legitimate reason. That many at once implies a message was being sent. Simply ask those who left mid hearing why they did not return.

The way I see it, previously the Ds were badgering the witnesses, and they very well knew they could not do this to “greving family members” testifying, so they all decided to step out.

AverageJoe on September 20, 2013 at 1:31 PM

This, more than anything else, proves the utter lack of dignity by Issa in his exploitation of these tragic deaths.
What cheap and false shot.

Issa has no decency.

Saw you posting this same manure over at the Power Line thread under another screen name. They’re all laughing their getalifes off at you there, too.

And Duckworth is the worst of them! No veteran with any human decency would treat the family of a fallen brother or sister like that. NOT A ONE!

NavyMustang on September 20, 2013 at 1:36 PM

18 of the committee’s Republicans were absent during the parents’ testimony.

15 of the Dems were absent.

If you’re at all capable of consistency in what ‘outrages’ you – I imagine you’ll now direct your ire at the Repubs?

verbaloon on September 20, 2013 at 10:32 AM

Wow, that’s some serious spinning.

As far as I can tell, it was only the Democrat members who walked out after the hearing began.

Those who left were either low class or no class. We should show them the same level of (dis)respect they show us. If they want to be valued as representatives, they should act as representatives – even if they disagree with what is said.

But these partisan cowards will be the first to whine about the lack of respect for . . . healthcare . . . the government . . . life (in the existential sense). . . values (that coincide with theirs) . . ..

Answer this, troll. Do you, or do you not, think it was disgusting for them to walk out? No head counts, no bullsh!t. Answer the question.

katy the mean old lady on September 20, 2013 at 1:01 PM

First…I see we’ve changed the narrative.
Second…it’s still a b.s. one.
Nobody ‘walked out’ on the parents.
What is it the 18 Repubs did…’left’…’didn’t show’…’were just in the bathroom’…’had to take an important call from their child’s school’?
Or maybe you think the Dems ‘walked out’ because they’re so mean and heartless…while the 18 Repubs walked out because they’re just so sensation…and couldn’t bare to be present…and they feel oh so much more deeply for the parents.
Keep spinning away.
But you’re only way out of this is to be very select (and partisan) about that which upsets and outrages you.

Schadenfreude on September 20, 2013 at 2:35 PM,

We all know he cannot as none of the Rs walked out. The ones that were not there for the family testimony where not there for any testimony.

Its typical deflection by the liberal trolls. When they cannot defend the indefensible, they accuse us of doing what they did.

Hopefully, some rich conservative (hello Rush, Hannity, etc) will take note and put together an ad exposing the vile actions of the Ds who walked out. Preferably aired during prime time.

This troll has to be on someone’s payroll. There’s no other logical reason for him to keep coming here, dumping a load of blather, getting his ass handed to him, and coming back to try to act like it didn’t happen. No sane person would behave this way just for kicks. It’s simply not worth it.

I suspect there are several trolls here that are being paid for what they do. Time after time federal agencies or political advocacy orgs have been found to be hiring drones to comment on websites. We have to assume that some of them are here.

The Democrat Congressmen who walk out of the hearing to avoid hearing from Mrs. Smith and Mr. Woods were: Carolyn Maloney (NY), Eleanor Holmes Norton (DC), John Tierney (MA), William Lacy Clay (MO), Stephen Lynch (MA), Jim Cooper (RN), Gerald Connolly (VA), Matt Cartwright (PA), Mark Pocan (WI), Tammy Duckworth (IL), Danny Davis (IL), Peter Welch (VT), Tony Cardenas (CA), Steve Horsford (NV), and Michelle Lujon Grisham (NM).

These 15 DEM Reps from the House Oversight Committee walked out of the Benghazi Hearings on Thursday Sep 19th, before the victim family members gave testimony…. which is an utter DISGRACE.

Issa is your vulture. You embarrass yourself trying to salvage a disgraceful lie. You truly want these families to believe this lie?
A low point for HA and Ed and AP that they jumped on this.
Often they seem to rise above. But on this one they sank low.
Just laughable how hard you and others are trying here.
Anyone with half a brain know this is all untrue.
And you have more than half a brain..
