Open thread: Sunday morning talking heads

posted at 8:01 am on September 15, 2013 by Allahpundit

Some messes are so big that the clean-up can’t be left to surrogates alone. That doesn’t mean the White House won’t let them help — Bob Menendez, Carl Levin, and Chris Van Hollen will all be on this morning to convince you that your lying eyes are wrong and that the last two weeks have been, at least, a passable show of global leadership. But since no one believes that, The One himself will sit down with fair-and-balanced journalist George Stephanopoulos on “This Week” to make the case himself. No one really believes him either, but watching him personally lead the damage-control effort should help build support among Democrats along partisan lines. My guess at the big talking-point takeaway this morning, with apologies to Otto from “A Fish Called Wanda”: We didn’t lose to the Russians on Syria. It was a tie.

Elsewhere, Hank Paulson will be on “Meet the Press” to celebrate the glories of TARP on its fifth anniversary. The full line-up is at Politico.

Right. Everything is going exactly as Dear Leader had planned. /s

People who believe that are naive and foolish enough to believe anything. These are the only people the clown posse of Menendez, Levin, and Van Hollen are talking to. Most everyone else is laughing at them and/or is insulted by the lies and deliberate misrepresentations.

I don’t think America did lose to the Russians on Syria. The original idea to go to war was so bad it was an own goal. The way the war was called off was embarrassing, but better than flying air support for Al Qaeda. So Putin personally humiliated Obama, but America didn’t lose out.

And if one un-American socialist humiliates another, what has that to do with America’s interests or honor?

Pretty close.
Truth is Syria was never about poison gas, pootie embarassing zero, lines in the sand or any of that nonsense.
What it was about is diversion and the way it ended up will please axelrod for some time.
Prior to the worlds full attention on Syria the regimes dozen or so lawyers all had full time jobs defending the Dear Leader on Benghazi, bribing Morsi with 8.4 billion, now jailed leaders in Egypt who threatened to spill the beans on zeros MB sympathies, an irs that discriminated against Tea Party types and still does, nsa spying on everyone, and so many other scandals that all lead to impeachment all dozen lawyers had to have para-legals just to keep zero out of the slammer.
All that has now disappeared thanks to vlad, you remember (I’ll have a little more flexibility after the elections) that Vlad.
Was it pretty, hell no! We have an incompetent regime on everything except political deception which they excel in over anyone.

Comrade O, you ought to start reading old Charlie Brown comic strips. In particular, the ones where Lucy is holding the football for Charlie Brown to kick.

Comrade O, you are Charlie Brown. Assad and Putin are Lucy. And the football represents the latest offer and/or negotiating point and/or plan they are offering in the game of “voluntary disarmament under UN supervision”. It may be instructive to review Saddam Hussein’s old playbook for this game.

Comrade O, you moron, you have been sucked into playing their game. And the game has just begun. You will be spending a lot of time playing this game in the next few years, you idiot. The other side knows your playbook, what you can and cannot do, and what your real motivations and goals are — to save face after drawing your arrogant red-line. You will be forever reacting to their moves. They will keep you dancing to their tune. You have no way to control events.

You have embraced the tar-baby they created for you.

I don’t think America did lose to the Russians on Syria.

David Blue on September 15, 2013 at 8:30 AM

Yes, they did.
Obama’s goal has been to remove Assad from power.
Russia’s goal has been to keep Assad in power.

Now Obama has to recognize and work with Assad to remove chemical weapons. By doing this Obama has re-established Assad as the real leader of Syria.
Obama can not attack or arm the rebels because then Assad can claim he cannot remove the chemical weapons while Obama is attacking him.
Not all the chemical weapons will be accounted for and removed. Assad is already chemical weapons and producing equipment out of the country.
Assad stays in power.
Obama lost.

Russia not only keeps Assad in power, but has elevated its own status in the Middle East.
Obama lost.

This is a reason Middle Eastern wars are worthless. You pay billions of dollars and many soldiers lose their lives and health, and the people you put in charge still play games with you, like this or like the Afghans squeezing America for “fines” in removing American equipment from Afghanistan. Should Americans be taxed and military personnel give up their health and even their lives to replace one lot of crooks and terrorist-friendly Muslims with another? I don’t think so.

Obama has already screwed this country economically and domestically. In just five years he almost assured that this country’s next generation will be softer and more dependent than the last. and our debt will force us to abandon them. I was hoping he could at least hold the line on foreign affairs. Nope.

If we can’t stop Obamacare now we may as well let Hillary take the white house as the country will be in worse shape in another 3 years. We’ll be to the world what California is to rest of the states. A land with so much promise and resources ruined by liberal policies that drove it into bankruptcy only to be ridiculed by it’s peers. Obama’s basically given Assad Carte Blanche to act like the various Kim family members have in North Korea over the past 20 years, which is to agree to treaties, then brake then and dare the United States do to anything serious about it.

Syria doesn’t have nuclear weapons like North Korea, but Russia does. Combine that with Obama’s pathological need to never be put in a position where he’s responsible for anything controversial that could go wrong, and a year from now if we get new reports of chemical weapons allegedly being used by Assad, what’s Obama going to do? (The only thing he plans to do to Putin in the near future is to tell NBC to really, really play up the persecution of gays angle when they cover the Winter Olympics in Russia next February. So it’s not as if the Lightworker has the stomach even now to do anything serious at all after being given a metaphorical wedgie by Vlad, other than to be happy he didn’t rip his underwear while doing it).

h/t to Andrew Johnson via NRO’s “The Corner”:

President Obama tried to deny claims that his administration poorly handled the Syria situation, and argued that critics were grading him based on “style points” rather than the effectiveness of his policy.

“I think that folks here in Washington like to grade on style,” Obama told George Stephanopoulos on ABC’s This Week. “And so had we rolled out something that was very smooth and disciplined and linear, they would have graded it well, even if it was a disastrous policy.”

“I’m less concerned about style points — I’m much more concerned about getting the policy right,” he continued.

ripple effect.

1. Effectively puts The US back in our corner of the world in terms of influence. This doesn’t just affect us but the UK and other friendly european nations like France (They’re having their own “Mad King” moment).

2. The US is scaling back our navy while Russia,China and Iran are ramping up theirs. International shipping will certainly be interesting with Iranian submarines stalking our container ships?

3. Obama’s Foreign Policy Lunacy has had a demoralizing effect on our Allies.

4. Obama’s Domestic Policy Lunacy has devastated our economy and the repercussions of our national loss of stature (economic, diplomatic and militarily)coupled with governmental corruption and loss of civil liberties have a demoralizing effect on the nation and a nation of cynical ignoramuses is where we are headed.

5. When Nations are demoralized and economically weakened they are vulnerable to Fascism.

6. Obama and his ilk are people who like Fascism although they may call it something else…Fascism is simple and tidy and brutal.

7. Obama’s policies (FT. Hood was Workplace Violence for example) have affected Morale in our military and Benghazi has affected the morale and effectiveness of our diplomatic corps and Intelligence Agencies. Obama’s bungling, the resulting chaos and Putin’s B*tchslap is just another salvo.

These other countries smell the blood in the water, and we didn’t start bleeding only when Dear Leader was elected. In fact, that’s probably a key thing that showed our competitors that America is truly screwed as an ongoing international power. There is the probability that Obama is indeed their operative on some level. That Americans would vote him in and that he is on their team is a double whammy to our credibility. The highest possible cynicism.

We can declare ourselves the all-powerful Victors and praise our Heroes all day long, but the fact is that Russia, China and others see things differently. They feel that we got mauled in Iraq and Afghanistan pretty much along the lines of Vietnam and the Soviets in Afghanistan. It’s not body counts that matter, nor holding territory, but the final political result that matters to them.

Things have not gotten better for the U.S. since 9-11.

They’ll be wary of us only as long as we can afford cruise missiles and deliver them on target. I was going to say that they are also in awe of our wealth, but on second thought, that wealth is dwindling quickly and China in particular has been working to supplant the U.S. Dollar as the international exchange currency.

Little declined comment on whether Hammond and Hagel discussed the possible use by the U.S. of the British airbase at Akrotiri on Cyprus, which is about 160 miles from the Syrian coast.

Last Sunday, the British Ministry of Defense confirmed that Typhoon interceptors had scrambled from Akrotiri to confront Syrian fighters that had flown into international air space near Cyrpus.

In a statement, the Ministry of Defense said that “Typhoon Air Defense Aircraft operated from RAF (Royal Air Force) Akrotiri to investigate unidentified aircraft to the east of Cyprus; the aircraft were flying legally in international airspace and no intercept was required.”

The Syrian planes were believed to have been two Russian-made Sukhoi Su-24 attack aircraft that were flying “low and fast,” the Daily Mail newspaper reported.

Before the stunning Aug. 30 vote by the British parliament against the use of force in Syria, Britain had sent six Typhoons to Akrotiri.

“This is purely a prudent and precautionary measure to ensure the protection of UK interests and the defense of our Sovereign Base Areas at a time of heightened tension in the wider region. This is a movement of defensive assets operating in an air-to-air role only,” an RAF spokesman said at the time….”

But, it likes to make the thread about itself. So, my apologies for biting and feeding its ego. Hawk, if I were a man, you’d be a better man than I.

Fallon on September 15, 2013 at 11:08 AM

First, I’ve met women who were better men than me. A lot of conservative women leading the way these days. I just have such a hard time staying on Hot Air these days with the head-butting between folks I know to be all “basically” conservative. Again, I’m no authority for anything posted here and no better than anyone else. It just seems like whenever I’m able to visit, someone is kicking a fellow conservative in the teeth for something.

CoffeeLover on September 15, 2013 at 10:51 AM

Things are looking very…early twentieth century…

Rapid Technological Advances = increased economic/social de-stabilization.

Prediction :45% of jobs lost to technological innovation in 20 years

http://www.technologyreview.com/featuredstory/515926/how-technology-is-destroying-jobs/

Old Borders/Treaties and Alliances dissolving into Chaos and Regional conflicts becoming global as jihad becomes international in scope and operation.

WWI was the fifth-deadliest conflict in world history, paving the way for major political changes, including revolutions in many of the nations involved.

Rise of Nationalism….Increasing social class conflicts…Dissolving of traditional stabilizing institutions…Generational Crisis…

yada…yada…yada

“I’m less concerned about style points — I’m much more concerned about getting the policy right,” he continued.

onlineanalyst on September 15, 2013 at 10:08 AM

That’s pretty much the gist. It has become an easy read with almost certain accuracy, B and his posse tell you exactly what they’re doing because their lies always line up 180 degrees.
This was from Mr. Essence of cool himself. He’s saying he knows how foolish he looks. Usually they lead off with the most obvious, “Okay first off let me be clear,” then its exactly opposite of what happened.
So, if I understand his policy, B’s still a dumb@ass. But a well meaning one. That works. Wasn’t that his campaign slogan this last time around?

My guess at the big talking-point takeaway this morning, with apologies to Otto from “A Fish Called Wanda”: We didn’t lose to the Russians on Syria. It was a tie.

When that fails, I predict that the next talking point from the White House will be to suggest we take a ‘best out of three’ strategy with Putin.

That’ll be a winner Barry.

It’s going to get hard to keep this al Qaeda things straight; they are our enemy in Yemen, Af, Pak, but our ally in Syria.

Imagine the poor bastid in al Qaeda’s travel agency, the warnings, what to pack for different destinations. In one country you are shooting at Americans, in the next they hand you guns and ammo.

What if an al Qaeda shows up in the USA? Do they go to jail or to a feting on Meet the Press?

Maybe the REB’s real strategy with al Qaeda is to confuse the H out of them.

A tie? You kidding me? The big talking-point takeaway comes from Pee Wee Herman- “I meant to do that” What we witnessed this past two weeks was supersmart power in action. Getting the world to think America is being led by a lazy stupid feckless idiot so that Putin would be coaxed into establishing a framework for pretending to eliminate CW in Syria. We little people are just too damned stupid to see the genius that is Barak Hussein Obama.

The last two pictures pretty much settle it. Top half of the face-facelift. Lucky for him he has a hairline that can hide anything.

Yeah, it looks like he’s been whacked across the face with a shovel a few times. But I see the State Department is keeping up the “too busy for personal grooming” line they used when Hillary went to pot and stopped bathing.

Some haven’t bought in to bluegill’s new found conservatism and love for Ted Cruz. She seems to be sincere but I think her history is going to require more time. I am still not convinced that she isn’t the sock puppet for someone who was particularly ugly to you so unforgivable in my book. I hope I am wrong.

Cindy Munford on September 15, 2013 at 2:22 PM

Another Sunday with the Leftwing Propaganda Media leaves me feeling…ho hum. Today it’s not enough to note that every network political talk show is “moderated” by a Democrat, or that 4 of the 5 are activist liberals, as well. Or that the GOP members who actually make it on the air will almost entirely be from the center-left RINO wing.

Today we rank the severity of the propaganda on a 1 to 3 scale: D, Doofus, Kook-Left. And the GOP: RINO, R, conservative.

Let’s have a gander:

“Meet the Press” on NBC
• Doofus
• R
• D
• Kook-left

“Face the Nation” on CBS
• Kook-Left
• RINO
• Kook-Left (and corrupt)

“This Week” on ABC
• King As$-Clown, Kook-Left

“Fox News Sunday” on Fox
• R
• Kook-Left

“State of the Union” on CNN
• R
• Kook-Left
• D
• Conservative

“Political Capital” on “Bloomberg TV
“Newsmakers” on C-SPAN
“Al Punto” on Univision

That provides a little more light, doesn’t it? One conservative, all day. King of the Clown Left and five other representatives of the Kook-Left.

Pure, unadulterated propaganda.

David Blue on September 15, 2013 at 9:09 AM

I am coming around to that philosophy as well.
The middle east is about religious faggetry, oil and who runs each individual country.
They don’t give a dam about capitalism or democracy, its the equivalent of pissing into the wind. These people are loyal to whomever is in power.
