AFL-CIO head Trumka: We’re working with the administration on ObamaCare “to find solutions”

posted at 9:51 pm on August 29, 2013 by Erika Johnsen

As big labor unions have slowly but surely found out more about ObamaCare and precisely “what’s in it,” they’ve become increasingly dismayed about the whole thing and the effect it’s going to have on their workers. After first actively working toward the law’s passage and then helping to encourage the president’s reelection, unions have started figuring out that the law endangers the union-sponsored health care plans that are often used in industries where contracts and hours fluctuate — which is rather inconvenient, because the attractive health care option are usually one of the biggest reasons for joining a union in the fist place.

More and more unions have been getting vocal with their complaints, and back in January, I queried, “Who wants to put money on the Obama administration finding a way to make the unions happy here?”

Ahem. They’re certainly trying, via the WSJ:

Unions are making some progress in getting the Obama administration to address their concerns about the new health law, and Labor Secretary Tom Perez is playing a central role, AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka said Thursday.

“We’ve been working with the administration to find solutions to what I think are inadvertent holes in the act. I’m hopeful that we’ll get something done in the very near future,” Mr. Trumka said at a breakfast with reporters sponsored by the Christian Science Monitor. …

Mr. Perez, who has been labor secretary since July, is “in the middle” of organized labor’s continuing talks with the Obama administration over costs and other concerns about the health law, Mr. Trumka said, adding that he has met with Mr. Perez and White House officials as recently as Tuesday. …

The Labor Department didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment Thursday, and Mr. Trumka said he had no specifics to share from the talks, which he said are “a moving target.”

Business as usual.

We don’t want to repeal it, we just want to make it better for our union thug members.

Scroo they rest of ya–Trumka.

Exempt union members from Obamacare. Think how attractive that would make being a union member. And he can do it with a wave of his royal hand.

mongoose on August 29, 2013 at 9:54 PM

You mean raising the minimum wage and exemptions aren’t enough?

I want them to get what they deserved and campaigned for. Need to pass it to know what’s in it!

At some point, the Equal Protection Clause is going to have to be raised in an attempt to put an end to this chicanery and kakistocracy.

It has already been raised, along with the Establishment Clause, but not sure where it currently stands in the appellate process. Haven’t seen anything on it in a long time.

I’m in favor of lowering the Equal Protection Clause, since we already have raised it (too much I might add).

AFL-CIO head Trumka: We’re working with the administration on ObamaCare “to find solutions”

He’s a Progressive Liar. His Union membership is going to be pissed and he’s covering himself with the “see I tried to get it fixed” lie all the while licking his chops over the possibility of having millions of Unionized Healthcare workers hustling the ill off to hospices.

Are the Ruling class going to kill off the Middle class and then at some point (2030/2040…) there will be nothing left but the super rich and those left on the teat of the Federal government (i.e. cheap labor and lackeys for the rich).

I would put NOTHING past an out of control Federal government and a lazy American citizenry.

PappyD61 on August 29, 2013 at 10:22 PM

I ain’t sure what happened to Hoffa, but I’m d*** sure it’s too good for Trumka.

“Making progress” = waiver.

By January, I will be the only sap left struggling under Obamacare.

PattyJ on August 29, 2013 at 10:32 PM

This selective use of waivers is clearly, clearly a violation of Equal Protection. Surely even Ginsburg and Sotomayor can see the danger to the rule of law that this imposes. The waivers turn us from a nation of laws into a corrupt banana republic where punitive laws only apply to the enemies of the state. Where’s Randy Barnett?

Evidently that fat ass Trumka believes King Barry writes any legislation he wants right into law.

Just think of all the money saved by not having a House or Senate, and all those ancillary personnel.

Will Obamacare be repealed or won’t it? Will Congress fund it or won’t it? Blah, blah, blah. We the people just need to do what we need to do and Congress be damned. Resist. Refuse. Revolt. We did not comply with Prohibition and we simply should not comply with Obamacare. For religious reasons. For privacy reasons. For the cause of liberty and freedom and in protest of the idea that the federal government (under one party rule, no less), can force private citizens to purchase anything with our own money. Are we citizens or subjects? Mice or men(women)? Just say NO to socialism and to the corrupt, unionized, far left IRS, the gestapo of America’s political class. After all, the federal government ignores millions of illegals who are breaking U.S. immigration law every day and nothing happens to them. Selective enforcement of our laws is just as UN-Constitutional as the Obamacare law itself! (Supreme Court be damned as well). Our Founder pledged their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor. All we have to do is just say no to a scheme we all know is un-American and a violation of the most basic fundamentals of privacy, self reliance, limited government and individual freedom that founded this nation.

Trumka should be working with anyone he can “to find his forehead”. How is this man still relevant!?

justjulie20 on August 30, 2013 at 12:22 AM

“We’ve been working with the administration to find solutions to what I think are inadvertent holes in the act.”

Setting aside any discussion about the substance of the ACA –
inadvertent or not (bug or feature?), the purpose of research, hearings, debates, and honest use of Congressional protocol is to fix holes in proposed legislation before it becomes law.

If they do receive and “exemption” to this tax (how do you give an exemption to a tax anyways?), then it will only go to prove that some animals are definitely more equal than others. Sigh.

Theophile on August 30, 2013 at 1:29 AM

Have you ever filed a tax return? We have too many tax exemptions for all sorts of stuff. Its why the tax code is 70000 pages or whatever it is up to. Its criminal what these basterds have done over the years.

Murphy9 on August 30, 2013 at 1:58 AM

I think the unions know by now that they are screwed in the long run. The leadership wants to keep that as quiet as possible, and hold out hope for as long as possible, to keep the troops in line for 2014 and perhaps even 2016, if they will be strung along that long. Why not? The proles have swallowed all the hooey they’ve been fed for decades by the bosses, what’s a couple more years.

But even Obama can’t exempt the unions because the numbers just explode (they already have to assume Rosy Scenarios that are beyond any yet projected in a budget).

jaywemm on August 30, 2013 at 3:55 AM

The only way to “fix it” is to repeal it. There’s no way they get union favored changes through the House. Or, Obama may just ignore the law and constitution again.

Otherwise the man is a caricature of …himself.

You can’t make this stuff up.

It’s too darned tragicomical.
