BREAKING: Hasan sentenced to death for Ft. Hood shootings

posted at 3:28 pm on August 28, 2013 by Bruce McQuain

AP is reporting:

A military court on Wednesday sentenced Maj. Nidal Hasan to death for the 2009 shooting rampage at Fort Hood, giving the Army psychiatrist a path to the martyrdom he appeared to crave in the attack on unarmed fellow soldiers.

The American-born Muslim, who has said he acted to protect Islamic insurgents abroad from American aggression, never denied being the gunman. In opening statements, he acknowledged to the jury that he pulled the trigger in a crowded waiting room where troops were getting final medical checkups before deploying to Iraq and Afghanistan.

The same jurors who convicted Hasan last week had just two options: either agree unanimously that Hasan should die or watch the 42-year-old get an automatic sentence of life in prison with no chance of parole.

Of course, with the appeals process the military has it may take years and years for such a sentence to be carried out.

The prosecutor in the case minced no words about Hasan and his desire to be a martyr:

The lead prosecutor assured jurors that Hasan would “never be a martyr” despite his attempt to tie the attack to religion.

“He is a criminal. He is a cold-blooded murderer,” Col. Mike Mulligan said Wednesday in his final plea for a rare military death sentence. “This is not his gift to God. This is his debt to society. This is the cost of his murderous rampage.”

Now if we can only get justice for those who were shot and have this declared what it was – an act of terrorism.

American kills Muslims: prison. Muslim kills Americans: death penalty.

JS on August 28, 2013 at 4:09 PM

Your ignorance and propaganda so noted.

The two cases don’t compare. Go look them up, see how both pleaded, what happened during trial, and then, maybe, come back.

Meh, how gnat-brained some of you are. God gave you gray matter to use it.

Schadenfreude on August 28, 2013 at 5:28 PM

If they hang him, I hope that they make sure that rope is nice and supple.
Rub in a lot of pig tallow to soften the fibers.

Hopefully, he will get to those 72 virgins pretty quickly.

This is going to play havoc in the Muslim world. An American, Robert Bales, goes on a shooting spree, kills numerous people, including many children, and he’s given life in prison, despite the demands of the victims’ families that he be put to death. Hasan, a Muslim, goes on a shooting spree and gets the death penalty. Of course, Bales cut a deal and that’s why he didn’t get the death penalty. Also of course, Hasan is himself an American, so the contrast between Americans and Muslims does not hold. But do you think people are going to make these distinctions? American kills Muslims: prison. Muslim kills Americans: death penalty.

JS on August 28, 2013 at 4:09 PM

Muslims have been killing people for some time now. It does not matter to them your country of origin, they even kill their own,ie..entire middle east for the exception of Israel, whom they all want to destroy. Heck, pick any place in the world with a substantial Muslim population. So, your point is what?

DDay on August 28, 2013 at 5:39 PM

Did the judge begin the sentencing with some call-outs to political connections a la Obama when he made his first remarks about the shootings?

Mallard T. Drake on August 28, 2013 at 5:41 PM

There’s (a) been no suggestion whatsoever that Hasan was suffering from PTSD or (b) that Hasan sought a “deal” which would allow him to avoid the death penalty.

Hasan is getting what he deserves. Would that his victims got what they deserve from our government.

All female firing squad, using Israeli bullets that have been coated in lard.
That was easy.

annoyinglittletwerp on August 28, 2013 at 5:46 PM

Considering that the last US Army soldier executed was in 1961, 52 years ago, this sentence is more of a symbolic gesture. That’s why I love the old westerns. Sentenced on Friday afternoon. Hanged on Saturday morning. Bring your picnic basket.

MaiDee on August 28, 2013 at 5:50 PM

I heard on Beck this morning something about “The President has to approve all military executions’…

Anyone know if that’s true or not???

BigWyo on August 28, 2013 at 5:51 PM

I used to think that about terrorists – that we should lock them up so as to not make martyrs out of them, but the flip side is that this is what justice demands, and I’m more interested in justice than in playing the game of trying to not inspire terrorists through martyring them.

Othniel on August 28, 2013 at 3:43 PM

I don’t care what their rules are, I only care about what our rules say. Don’t let them set the rules to the game…it only gives legitimacy to their viewpoint.

Snowden = traitor
Hasan = Disgruntled co-worker

Got it

kurtzz3 on August 28, 2013 at 6:00 PM

Don’t shoot him.

Don’t hang him.

Just dump him into an incinerator… feet first.

Make sure to record it so we can all hear him scream.

And do it on a 9/11 — preferably THIS coming up 9/11.

clayj on August 28, 2013 at 6:12 PM

I suspect he’ll never be executed and may very well get an Obama pardon, as a parting f***k you yo the nation and especially the military. After all since when is “workplace violence” a capital offense? At any rate this will be in appeals for many many years.

simkeith on August 28, 2013 at 6:16 PM

Next time, Nidal, petition the court for change of venue to Montana.

de rigueur on August 28, 2013 at 6:26 PM

Let it be so.

Now, I hope the government and the Army can be strong in the fact of what I’m sure will be hellacious blowback.

Plus, no one should care what he wild Islamists think. They don’t give a damn what the others think. They only know fear and strength. Any dead one is one less to worry about.

Bef. any of you moronic ones lecture on the Muslims…I’m not talking about them…though many of them are weak weasels who don’t condemn the wild ones.

Hasan sentenced to death for Ft. Hood shootings

Since he prefers the death sentence, I’d rather he rot in solitary confinement for the rest of his life.

You have it wrong. It is soldier kills soldiers: death penalty. Soldier kills non-combatants: prison.

JS on August 28, 2013 at 4:09 PM

How would anyone be able to tell? The Muslim world IS havoc. The Muslim world appears to be little more than a seething swarm of insecure, thin-skinned, misogynist, murderous fanatics, intent on remaining in an eternal state of rage at others for the state of civilization that they’ve chosen. Yes there are innocents, many of them. But the culture, as a group, has made it’s own stinking bed, and will continue to lie in it regardless of what we do.

Dude, that was kind of my point. People are going to gloss over the differences between the two cases. I wasn’t advocating that people should do this, I was predicting that people would do this.

JS on August 28, 2013 at 6:58 PM

Just give him to most any military retiree for 5 minutes. His ride to the 72 virgins will be a fast one and not easy at all.

It doesn’t matter what they do or believe. They all want you dead.

The cases are different, as you noted, and nothing will please them. The US should get off the PC crap and fight them. Period.

Schadenfreude on August 28, 2013 at 7:15 PM

Finally justice for this monster..it’s a real shame it’ll be many years before he is finally finished from this earth but maybe that’s good though..he wants to die..let him think about it for a few years before he is gone

congress also needs to pass a bill or resolution demanding Obama label this a terrorist attack also

sadsushi on August 28, 2013 at 7:26 PM

He wants to die and I want him dead. Seems like a win-win.

Isn’t there some kind of flesh eating bacteria or something that can ensure his “execution” is very long, very slow, and very painful?

The way we can know for sure that the Global War on Terror, under whatever name, is a fake, is that we continue to take Muslim immigrants.

When we were serious about fighting Communism, we sure weren’t importing Communists en masse, and advancing them in our ranks as “diversity” pets like Maj. Nidal Hasan.

He should have been dead years ago. That he wasn’t executed long ago is symptomatic of the dishonesty of the whole war effort.

But it is much less important than the fact that we continue to import future Maj. Nidal Hasans, and continue to favor “diversity” over the lives of our soldiers and civilians both.

David Blue on August 28, 2013 at 9:21 PM

Yes we were; they just weren’t being as open about their affiliation.
Granted we didn’t advance any admitted Communists as a national policy; but a lot of them reached very high government and military positions nonetheless.

(by the way, I agree with your other points).

AesopFan on August 29, 2013 at 12:24 AM

I guess the judge wasn’t able to exclude enough evidence after all.

viking01 on August 28, 2013 at 3:35 PM

Indeed.

AesopFan on August 29, 2013 at 12:32 AM

Now it’s easy. Give him one week to get his affairs in order, then execute him. No 20 years on death row wasting taxpayer money. This is cut and dry. He did it. He is a terrorist. Kill him ASAP!

F_This on August 29, 2013 at 12:02 PM

Kill two birds with one stone. Drop Nidal Hasan on Syria.

paulus1 on August 29, 2013 at 1:52 PM

Somehow, I have a distinct feeling that the jihadi schmuck, Hasan, was delighted to know he got a death sentence. For one thing, he also knows that he could probably die of natural causes before having to sweat an actual death sentence happening.

If the government can’t sentence him to death, then carry it out within a few hours, the sentence is meaningless in any Western country where PC has had a chance to insinuate itself into the justice system.

In Hasan’s case, the will be no justice. He won’t be terminated within 12 hours; he will exist for years in a death penalty cell preaching his particular brand of religious hatred to anyone who will listen; and he will laugh up his sleeve at the ineffectual Yankee infidel dog punishment system.

Slip the old plastic bag over his head for 6-7 minutes, resuscitate as needed, making sure he knows his name, slobbers, then drop him off somewhere in Pakistan in his wheelchair, with a note pinned to his diaper telling everyone he’s a jihadi hero, which should be a big saving the US taxpayer from keeping him any longer.

Take him up in a chopper to 3,000 feet, open the door, and then roll Hasan out.

Whatever happens next is up to Allaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!
