“We shall overcome”: San Diegans rally … in support of Bob Filner

posted at 8:01 pm on August 19, 2013 by Allahpundit

Granted, it was only a few dozen people. Granted, the rally against Filner was bigger, and public opinion is running seven to one in favor of resignation.

Still, I feel the only solution now is nuking the city from orbit. Just to be sure.

Organizer and immigrant rights activist Enrique Morones said Filner backers would no longer stay silent.

“These joint community members of color, veterans, environmentalists, educators, women’s rights, gays, civil rights, labor, human rights, unions, neighborhoods, immigration and many more — we stand united in stopping the public mockery of our judicial system,” Morones said. “Due process for Mayor Filner and due process for the accusers.”…

Suzie Ditmars, of the Committee on the Status of Women, said she was “appalled” at the attacks on Filner and what she characterized as “pure vindictiveness” on the part of the mayor’s opponents.

Another woman who attended the rally held a sign that read “We Forgive.”

I can understand complaining that he’s innocent until proven guilty, even though that’s a criminal standard, not a standard for holding office. I’m having a harder time understanding the idea that we should let him slide once or twice, or 15 times, on sexual harassment.

But wait:

Singing “We Shall Overcome,” the group of Mayor Filner’s supporters gathered on the Civic Center Plaza at noon holding signs of “Cease Fire” and “Due Process.”…

“I have not been the recipient of sloppy kisses. And I have met Mr. Filner on many occasions,” said Maxine Sherard, PhD, a former candidate for state assembly. “He’s more than the sum total of one experience.”…

Former campaign volunteer Kathleen Harmon questioned the motivation behind the recall effort.

“What is the real reason,” asked Harmon. “Is it because he’s standing up for everybody, not just special interests?”

Who’s the bottom feeder in this food chain? The people who want to forgive a guy with more than a dozen accusations of misconduct against him? The people who “reason” that just because he didn’t harass literally every woman he met must mean he’s innocent of 15 charges? Or the people hinting that this is some sort of conspiracy against him because he stands for the powerless or whatever?

Look at it this way: Now, in more ways than one, Filner knows what it’s like to be Ted Kennedy. Click the image for video from BuzzFeed.

That would be a waste of a perfectly good nuclear weapon that would give a better payoff by hitting a worthwhile target.

I guess that by tomorrow morning this puny rally in favor of Feel ‘Em Up Filner will be called ‘massive’ by Pelosi and the lapdog media. If opposing rallies are mentioned, they’ll come with the built-in inference of ‘Republican hyper-partisanship against a staunch protector of women’s rights’.

Isn’t that cute? Even among themselves they have to label who exactly they are. They can’t just be community members united to keep a filthy pervert in office. They have to be environmentalists or gays or whatever. Says all you need to know about them.

Singing “We Shall Overcome,” the group of Mayor Filner’s supporters gathered on the Civic Center Plaza at noon holding signs of “Cease Fire” and “Due Process.”…

And making references to the civil rights struggle is just offensive. But I loved this comment the most.

“I have not been the recipient of sloppy kisses. And I have met Mr. Filner on many occasions,” said Maxine Sherard, PhD, a former candidate for state assembly.

Maybe you’re just too ugly to attractive to Filner. The man has 16 accusers including a university dean, a Rear Admiral, va 69-years-old volunteer and city employees. Could it be Ms. Sherard that you just don’t meet Filner’s low standards?

The left is sick. Absolutely sick.

Beck has a story of a family targeted because they dared support their son… who was raped by a teacher. The teachers are supporting the rapist… because he said he was sorry.

An arsonist hit their home in the middle of the night. They all nearly died. And all these parents did was demand the teacher who raped their son be fired.

I dunno, I’m still not completely convinced. Remember, Gloria Allred is in the anti-Filner crowd, and that’s normally cause for a LOT of doubt as to the accuracy of the allegations.

Just hard to watch as the same group of people react differently to similar situations. I do not follow this guys accusers closely, so I am not sure how many of these 16 have corroborating evidence to back up their claims. Then again, I personally did not give Mr Cain much benefit of the doubt, as I personally think that a person of honor places himself in a position of being unassailable to these charges. Gentlemen do not have credible accusations thrown at them, because they are never alone with ladies to give the appearance of impropriety in the first place if they can at all help it.

What these Filner supporters are forgetting is that their hero went into rehab for his little ‘addiction’. That’s about the same as an apology for hitting one’s wife, in front of a cop called to the scene, is tantamount to an admission of guilt even if no other evidence is available. Hubby can be arrested on the spot.

Happy Nomad on August 19, 2013 at 8:47 PM

Yes, not surprising in the least. Because the Left will always be the first ones to defend the depraved, the deranged, the perverted, the deviant and the criminal. And as we’re seeing a glaring example of yet again, the ends always justify ANY and ALL means.

BUT YET, are disgusting, rabid, hate mongers, spewing their venom at anyone and everyone, that’s Christian, or Conservative, or a member of the Tea Party, or home schools their children, or anyone and everyone that has the gall and the nerve to simply speak up in opposition to their radically Left agenda on ANY subject.

The Left. Defending and enabling America’s lowest common denominator.

Actually, I think you are wrong. Allred is a media whore but she’s really good at her job. I can’t recall her representing women who didn’t have some substance behind their allegations.

More to the point, if you are one of Filner’s victims, you almost need somebody that knows how to deal with the media. The national interest eliminates a lot of lawyers’ ability to deal with the case.

And isn’t it the left that tells us for every victim that comes forward for sexual assualt there are three that don’t. 16 women have come forward against Filner. You do the math about how many have not. So small wonder that Allred is circling the waters of San Diego chumming for more clients.

Sorry we didn’t meet your standards of purity, citizen. I’m certain your city favors impeaching Obama by a much larger margin.

I for one hope he stays in office, and drags out the legal battle as long and as expensively as possible. I hope city services all suffer and we end up cutting police, firefighters, and teachers, as the libs are always threatening to do unless we raise another onerous tax. I hope every citizen who voted for this jack-hole, merely because he had the approved letter after his name, learns their lesson the hard way.

Bubba was way worse… using state troopers to round up tail, and even being credibly accused of rape, yet waaaay too many people gave BillyJeff a pass because his “sex life was none of our business” and have rewritten history to forget that the perjury charges all came about because Paula Jones was suing Clinton for… sexual harassment. Sound familiar? I’ll be damned if Filner gets a pass down the memory hole as well, so I hope this ordeal is so painful for San Diegans that it leaves scars.
