Gibbs: I’m “fairly floored” that Clinton has “decided to enter the public fray so quickly”

posted at 3:31 pm on August 18, 2013 by Erika Johnsen

Allahpundit mentioned last week that he had thought Hillary Clinton would probably be lying low for awhile yet, allowing time for President Obama’s second term to continue to curdle and any disapproval over her own tenure at State to continue to dissipate, and then gloriously reemerge into major public life a little later on and hit the 2016 ground running — and he certainly wasn’t the only one. Even some of the Meet the Press panel this morning expressed some surprise over her all-but-declarative announcement that Clinton is going to be spending her autumn delivering a series of ‘major policy addresses’; Chuck Todd notes the negatives for stepping down from the Above-the-Fray platform too quickly, and Robert Gibbs worried about her distinguishing herself from both Obama’s and her husband’s presidency. My, this is all happening so fast:

Well, she also has to distinguish herself from her husband, too, right? Listen, if her campaign becomes an extension really of either her husband’s term or the current president’s term, it’s not necessarily a good deal for her. I completely agree with Chuck. I as a strategist am fairly floored that she has decided to enter the public fray so quickly. She could do the foundation work, she could do issue work, she could build the campaign, she could develop a message without having to be so far out front there. And Chuck talks about strong bipartisan approval ratings, those will whittle quite quickly as she steps further and further…

The only person Hillary can run against at this point in time is …. OBAMA!

There is no Republican, and likely none will appear until the middle of 2015, for her to rail against in that shrill voice that offends every ear it comes into contact with!

Did the NYt run that story to protect their god Obama?

She’s 50 pounds overweight and last year she had a mini-stroke. Not running even if she lives that long.

Let her first address her success with that “reset” button. To be followed up by her success in Benghazi.

I think that she thinks that John Kerry is going to rewrite history and paint her tenure truthfully. That would be bad news for St. Hillery.

I’ve been asking that since she started running for Senate in 1999.

Wait a minute, wasn’t she named in honor of Sir Edmund Hillary? After all, he was an unknown New Zealand beekeeper the year she was hatched, and he wouldn’t even summit Everest until several years later.

I didn’t buy any of the mini-stroke crap and still don’t. Probably because the dishonest progtards ruining this country will stop at nothing to achieve their cause, and lying to the public is a very minor issue for them. And besides, the coincidence with the Benghazi heat was pretty laughable. But to her credit, she played her part a lot longer than it took Jesse Jackson Jr. to get over his (stay- outta-jail) bi-polar ailment that overcame the young man.

The most grotesque woman if not person in my recollection of modern America. That she is actually considered a legitimate candidate and is indeed lionized by the Left while Sarah Palin has been degraded and dehumanized by the same people should be grounds for Biblical repudiation.

rrpjr on August 18, 2013 at 4:03 PM

This tells me that Hil is worried about competition in the democratic primaries, and that knocking them off before the primaries even begin is her best chance.

slickwillie2001 on August 18, 2013 at 4:05 PM

Gibbs is LYING through his teeth. He’s smart enough to know that she’s jumping into the arena early so that no one else goes to the trouble to even try to compete against her. She’s actually being respectful of other would-be candidates, by letting them know early. They’re going to be grateful for the heads up.

No one else will attempt a campaign now; it will ONLY be Hillary Clinton against the GOP candidate, and the GOP will lose to her because we’ll have to go through ANOTHER primary to pick a nominee, while she raises money, and sits back and watches the FIGHT CLUB kill each other off.

Gibbs knows all that. So he’s just LYING.

She has to make sure that “what difference… does it make” is old news by the time she officially declares to run for potus (if she does). If its the last thing the public remembers of her political activities, that will be very hard.

In presidential races, there is no advantage to starting early. So if Hillary and Christie are front-runners now, they will be gone before the contest starts. You need to let the competition wear themselves out or commit gaffes.

Hillary would have been better advised to stay out of the way. As things stand, she will be undermining the lame duck president and making more enemies in the Democrat party.

I think most have missed the most obvious reason for her early launch, namely EGO

This woman cannot resist the cheering crowds (of which there will be plenty of course). She’ll take her chances on an early launch because without the spotlight she’ll shrivel up and die inside…she can’t stand being without the adoration…

conservative pilgrim on August 18, 2013 at 10:55 PM

The establishment of the Republican Party is a political low pressure zone from the Democrats’ point of view.

The Republican establishment is all about defeating the Tea Party and the right, not the bipartisan pork machine and the left. So whoever runs against Republican Party from the left gets to walk over an essentially un-resisting foe, which gives in on every issue while weeping and repeating “my friends!”

It’s not a question of building up a machine to beat the Republicans. It’s not a “push” situation. The weakness of establishment Republicans will “pull” any leftist who attacks them into a winning position.

So if you want to be sure you’ll be the nominee, in a situation where that is the same as becoming President (as it was in 2008) be the first Democrat to get out there and rally the leftist mass media behind you.

Besides, Hillary loves this bandwagon approach to politics.

Don L on August 19, 2013 at 4:05 AM

and is indeed lionized by the Left while Sarah Palin has been degraded and dehumanized by the same people

Sorry, but it was our illustrious elite GOP that took her down.

The left failed -unless you forgot how she jerked them around, causing a gaggle of noxious panting reporters to chase her bus across the land and then there followed the hilarious Great Alaskan E-mail Rush, where thousands of wannabe “executioners” tried to find dirt on her. She was the victor, stronger than ever for beating the entire leftist army–all poised perfectly to announce when her own party panicked and stabbed her in the back, multiple times rapidly: Will, Krauthammer, Christie, Coutler (twice) Noonan, Parker, Laura Ingraham, and they even got old Dick Cheney out of WY to take shots at her. Only a fool would have announced after that clear message–Oromney was their RINO–stay away.

Oh, and maybe you missed the take down after McCain lost his “RINO’s R us” (incompetent)2008 election attempt when his hit men gang (with certain GOP approval) went public with lies about her clothing expenses etc.
Think Palin’s guy, Cruz, the Tea Party, and how Cheney, Rove and the hit men of the elites tried to stop him also.
Don’t blame the left for the crimes of the RINO right.

Don L on August 19, 2013 at 4:23 AM

Robert Gibbs is concerned about one thing only — how the re-emergence (continuing presence?) of HRC impacts his boy. If HRC makes life difficult for Obama, that’s all Gibbs cares about.

Yuck, stop calling Cruz “Palin’s guy.” Stop defining him in terms of that clownish woman. You are insulting and hurting Cruz by doing so. Palin isn’t fit to shine his shoes.

I am disgusted to see some Palin worshipers trying to give Sarah Palin credit for Ted Cruz.

As for who took down Palin, she took herself down, in large part. She was never fit for national office.

“I’m “fairly floored” that Clinton has “decided to enter the public fray so quickly”

Yeah, the bodies of Ambassador Stevens and the other 3 Americans are not even cold yet, her echoing scream of “What does it matter” has not ended yet ended in the Congressional hearing chamber, and the Benghazi scandal has not ebded yet. She is finally showing the same type of arrogance and determination that her husband showed when he looked into the cameras & sad, “I did not have sex with that woman!” Hillary obviously believes the Democrats…and the nation…OWE her, that it if finally HER TURN, and she is not going to allow anything like hiring Al Qaeda-backed militias to protect 4 Americans in Benghazi, refusing to give them appropriate security, abandoning them to die during a 10-hour firefight, and covering up Benghazi to protect her and Obama’s CIA-to-Syrian-Jihadist gun-running operation derail her Presidential run!
