Lawmakers: Why hasn’t FBI talked to Benghazi player CNN found? Carney: Um…

posted at 8:41 pm on July 31, 2013 by Mary Katharine Ham

A good question, implicitly posed by the existence of a two-hour interview CNN got with a “person of interest” in the Benghazi attack now explicitly posed by a group of lawmakers on Capitol Hill:

A Republican lawmaker demanded Wednesday to know why investigators have not captured or killed any of the suspects in the attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, pointing out that CNN was able to find a man who some say was the ringleader in the assault that left the ambassador and three other Americans dead.

Eight GOP lawmakers are asking that new FBI Director James Comey brief Congress within 30 days about the investigation. They say the administration’s inquiry into the September 11, 2011, attacks in Libya has been “simply unacceptable,” according to a draft letter obtained by CNN.

“One of the pertinent questions today is why we have not captured or killed the terrorist who committed these attacks?” Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, told reporters. “News out today that CNN was able to go in and talk to one of the suspected terrorists, how come the military hasn’t been able to get after them and capture or kill the people? How come the FBI isn’t doing this and yet CNN is?”

No word on why CNN is sending assets all the way to Libya hot on the trail of a “phony scandal” when even the FBI has decided not to bother interviewing the principals. Some news judgment, guys. Sheesh.

Ed Henry of Fox News picked up the thread at the press briefing today, and was told, well, pretty much the exact same thing President Obama said after the attacks in September of last year:

How is it that someone who’s potentially a lead suspect in this terror attack could sit down with a media organization for a couple of hours and never be contacted by the FBI? How serious is–

CARNEY: Well, I would refer you to the FBI for details of their investigation. I”m not aware of anything beyond what you just said in terms of that report. The President has absolutely instructed his team to do everything they can to bring to justice those who are responsible for the deaths of four Americas, and that has been his priority from Day 1, as he made clear from Day 1. And, he will make that clear repeatedly as he’s updated on this process, but in terms of that specific report, I would refer you to the FBI.

Are you not assured, America? You know who the real culprit is, here? The nation’s most-wanted, most-elusive, dastardly criminal— the guy who keeps the president from being clear. Because I’m sure it will be of great comfort to the families of the fallen that he promises to continue to be clear about his fierce commitment to getting justice for four Americans killed in a “phony scandal” while possible suspects in their deaths sit around enjoying baklava in their balaclavas.

It seems like the barest of bare minimums to have tracked down a few of these people for interviews, just as it seemed like the barest of minimums to have investigated the attack site fewer than two weeks after it happened. Executing actions that reflect one’s words are traditionally a pretty good way of making sure one is clear. In counter-terrorism, I’m sure circumstances sometimes dictate the hot pursuit of justice looks rather cold from the outside, but the behavior of the administration on Benghazi, up to and including calling it “phony,” has suggested that if Republicans, conservatives, and reporters weren’t asking questions, no one would be. As of today, it seems that’s literally the case.

Hilary two days after the Libyan killings: “Islam is a religion of peace.”

Wow, yes, we know it is a religion of peace or at least the liberalized Muslims are peaceful, but 4 Americans including our Ambassador were killed by religious Muslims merely hours before, and this was what Hilary was thinking? Hilary’s comment was gratuitous: unasked for and unneeded, but it shows her mindset.

From Day 1?

I’m not sure of Carney’s accounting here but the actual Day 1 was 9/11/12 when his rat-eared boss went to bed instead of caring about the attack.

On Day 2 the filthy bastard along with Hillary Clinton lied. They spoke of a spontaneous attack the result of an offensive video about Islam’s false prophet. They talked about Libyans defending Ambassador Stevens and rushing him to the hospital. It was a lie they maintained for weeks. And they never have told the truth about an orchestrated attack with Stevens sodomized and killed in the name of Allah.

Murf76 on July 31, 2013 at 9:15 PM

What seems clear is that the FBI is willfully ignoring the direction of the President of the United States of America. Right? I mean, he gave the order. Carney said so.

Do you really believe the ‘official’ death toll of Americans?

This was an operation to transfer arms illegally from Libya to Syria, funded through some imaginative channel. It’s the REB’s version of Iran-Contra, but because it’s a democratic administration it’s a phony scandal.

The msm and congress are just letting Obama do what he wants. Issa should be in front of cameras every day giving an update and some congressman or senator should be on the floor every day yelling about the IRS, Benghazi and the NSA. Ever since Lerner took the 5th the Rs have looked impotent. Maybe I’m just impatient and am not seeing the long game. But where are these investigations going? They have White house council implicated in the IRS , the FBI Benghazi investigation has just been exposed as a fraud and we still don’t know what Obama was doing the night of the attack**hint- he was sleeping with directions not to wake him up unless Reggie stopped by to party**.

Oh, and the NSA can and does read email content without warrant + James Clapper gets a pass on lying under oath. If this admin is this Teflon then what’s the point of political process? Let’s stop the charade.

Ed Henry of Fox News picked up the thread at the press briefing today, and was told, well, pretty much the exact same thing President Obama said after the attacks in September of last year:

That is the main function of Jay Carney. It is to be somewhat pleasant-ish, er.. and consistent. It is the faux veneer of being consistent because consistency is a democratic virtue. The way they establish that is to have had the president or some other mouthpiece, but I repeat myself, to utter something of related note on any subject simply so Jay Carney can one day refer back to it for consistency’s sake. Jay presents nothing original, and that is why most are asking what the use of the press conference is nowadays.

ted c on July 31, 2013 at 9:34 PM

We always expected Islamists to behave like Islamists, but we never used to expect an American president to behave like this one.

Now, we do expect it from Obama.

Sad, really. So sad.

Liam on July 31, 2013 at 9:37 PM

While you’re at it Ed, you might want to ask the FBI who the lead investigator is in the phoney IRS scandal too. Mueller didn’t know – maybe the newbie does.

The FBI can’t be bothered to investigate Benghazi… can’t be bothered to investigate the IRS scandal… can’t put two and two together with the Boston bombing suspects… accidentally shoot an associate of Tamerlin in Florida.

A litany of abuse that would have been the demise of any Republican administration, but with this man, and this administration? No special prosecutor, no outrage, and no ’round the clock press coverage. No one is found criminally culpable, and no one goes to jail…

A Republican lawmaker demanded Wednesday to know why investigators have not captured or killed any of the suspects in the attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi

For one thing it’s a Republican asking. The only way to kill or capture any of the suspects is if friends of the Seals killed do their own covert ops.No one else is doing anything.

It is unbelievable how far the nation has fallen under these traitorous and corrupt vermin.
In large part, it is the fault of the Media.
There should be massive and angry protests outside their studios and outside the homes of their CEOs.
And a crowd of angry Americans stretching as far as the eye can see should be surrounding the White House and Capitol.

Wailing and rending my garments here.
