CNN: We interviewed a lead Benghazi suspect, whom the feds apparently can’t find, for two hours

posted at 1:41 pm on July 31, 2013 by Allahpundit

A nice catch from the Standard. Actually, John King never says that the FBI can’t find the Benghazi suspects, only that they’ve never contacted the guy whom CNN interviewed. Why? According to an AP story published in May, the feds are keeping their distance because they’re surveilling them electronically. (Them and everyone else in the world, right?) As of two months ago, they supposedly had enough evidence on the suspects to justify sending in troops to grab them but not enough to support either a drone strike or a trial in federal district court. A C-in-C who’s willing to authorize attacks from the air in Pakistan on targets whose identities he doesn’t even know is apparently a stickler for due process when it comes to Benghazi. Go figure.

That was two months ago, though. Two months later, they … still don’t have the evidence they need? My theory at the time, which I see no reason to revisit, is that O’s determined not to make any sudden moves militarily towards Libya while the new central government there is unstable. If he sends in the Marines to grab the suspects, it’ll give the local jihadis a pretext to rally Libyans against the new government for being “puppets of America” or whatever. (The Libyan government already released one Benghazi suspect whom they had in custody, in fact.) If anything, that logic is truer today than it was in May: Just look at what happened last week. Maybe O thinks that it’s fine to hold off on capturing them for now so long as America’s eye in the sky knows where they are; maybe he’s planning a big operation for around September 11, the one-year anniversary of the attack, to trump the inevitable headlines that nothing’s been done to get the bad guys if he fails to act. Or maybe Obama would prefer not to dredge up a political liability like Benghazi by grabbing these guys and bringing them back to America, where they’ll remind the world through their lawyers just how little security there was at the consulate. When the time is right, he’ll drone a few of them. Some of the others might solve his problem for him by decamping to Libya to fight against Assad, where they’ll be ostensible U.S., ahem, “allies.” We need able-bodied “freedom fighters” on the ground there and some of these degenerates would surely be both willing and able. See? He knows what he’s doing.

Maybe? The Obama Campaign doesn’t care one bit about bringing anyone to justice – unless doing so would help the Regime politically.

The Feds don’t want to find any of the ‘suspects’. If they did, they might have to do something about it, and that’s not something Obama wants.

obama helps his brothers.

I don’t believe the escapes from Abu Graib, Benghazi and Pakistan/Taliban, were coincidental. They just leave the illusion thereof.

The proper forum for the trials of these terrorists is a military tribunal at Gitmo. That would serve both the interests of justice and our nation’s security. But Obama has a personal and political agenda that conflicts with our national interests, and his personal interests will, as they always have, take priority.

My theory at the time, which I see no reason to revisit, is that O’s determined not to make any sudden moves militarily towards Libya while the new central government there is unstable.

My theory at the time, which I see no reason to revisit, is that O’s determined to suppress everything about Benghazi because he fears the the truth will destroy his legacy, if not bring down his presidency.

When the time is right, he’ll drone a few of them.

Only if it serves his political agenda, and serves to distract from the imminent disclosure of damaging facts. One thing is certain, our national security and the public’s so-called right-to-know won’t enter into Obama’s purely political calculus.

novaculus on July 31, 2013 at 1:59 PM

We interviewed a lead Benghazi suspect, whom the feds apparently can’t find

He must be living in Florida next to George Zimmerman’s neighbor who was only interviewed after the trial was over because his lauditory comments didn’t fit the narrative of a crazed white Hispanic gunning down a black kid on his way back from Bible study.

Peggy Noonan says Americans have “stopped listening” to Obama. Well, good, but what has to happen before the rest of America moves from there to indignation? What does it take? Once the lapdog Marxist media starts turning on him maybe the tenor will finally change, as LIV’s finally get motivated.

So CNN is to be congratulated. Not because they are finally doing their jobs (they aren’t!) but because this story is a crack in the wall. I hope CNN gets rewarded with viewers when they broadcast stories like these, so they (desperate as they are) are motivated to do more!

MTF on July 31, 2013 at 2:06 PM

What difference, at this point, does it make?

Chris of Rights on July 31, 2013 at 2:06 PM

Let me offer another explanation for why the perps are free. Its because they have blackmailed Obama. Since they ransacked the ambassador’s offices they probably possess documents that could cause Obama problems if released to the world. In exchange for letting the perps walk, the docs remain off the market.

Since Obama only cares for the next two years, that is a deal he can make. Obviously the docs will go public, just as long as Obama is nearing the end of his term, he won’t care.

Yup, he proved beyond the shadow of a doubt that night he does not have one leadership bone in his body. A real leader would have stayed up all night until they knew everyone was safe. Barack was shaking in his shoes that he would have to make a real decision, so he scuttled off to bed where no one would bother him.

He is simply disgusting.

“Or maybe Obama would prefer not to dredge up a political liability like Benghazi…”

I don’t give a damn what Jugears wants and doesn’t want, it’s what he and his administration should be GETTING. Thrown in jail!

I am sick and tired of all this political gamesmanship, making calculated moves just for the next election. That is all Obama is doing, and has ever done. He hasn’t led on ONE THING! He usually says something to the affect, “I’m going to get together with [insert liberal taxing minded group here] and devise a ‘plan’ of attack on [insert failed promise here]. As always, I welcome any idea that moves us in the ‘right direction’ (which is always to the left). If you have an idea, I’m willing to listen.”

Where have we heard this before? That is all he does. He did it on healthcare, this new grand bargain on jobs, and climate change (only on the mitigation side, of course). But the thing is, he does whatever he wants even after ‘listening’ to other ideas.

He doesn’t have any ideas, he just takes others so he can lay blame there. Just like with Benghazi, I’m sure. In the end, it will come down to some subordinate that made the ‘mistake’, keeping President Phony in the clear. Despicable!

Years from now (probably after I’ve shuffled off this mortal coil, dang my luck), some overzealous young yahoo will dig out the truth about Benghazi and write about it in a book. By then it will be ancient history, and all the people who are to blame will be beyond the reach of justice. It’s certain that we in the present are never going to get the complete truth, barring some courageous and persistent action from the Repubs (and what are the chances of that happening?).

RebeccaH on July 31, 2013 at 5:27 PM

I believe the FBI will never talk to anyone because catching someone who would tell the truth about their motive would bring Benghazi back onto the front page.

And no fed employee is going to risk his life to venture into “Indian country” in order to snatch up or interview a suspect that would embarrass his boss.

Just stupid to think for a second the DOJ, the FBI and the rest of the alphabet soup agency are not corrupted by Obama.

Just stupid.

My theory at the time, which I see no reason to revisit, is that … If he sends in the Marines to grab the suspects, … If anything … Maybe O thinks … maybe he’s planning … Or maybe Obama would prefer … When the time is right, he’ll drone a few of them. Some of the others might … some of these degenerates would surely … See? He knows what he’s doing.

AP, you’ve obviously given all this some thought.

At a guess, about 4 times as much thought as the geniuses in DC.

But I think it’s all much simpler. Interviewing suspects might lead to more facts, and all Obama wants is to cover up what happened. Ergo, he’s in no hurry to find out anything. If some suspects just happen to get killed before we can get to them … well, wouldn’t that just be a shame.
