Irony: IRS employees union wants no part of ObamaCare

posted at 12:01 pm on July 26, 2013 by Bruce McQuain

The simple irony is fairly obvious, but you need to also appreciate the more profound irony – the IRS is ObamaCare’s enforcement arm.  Remember those 16,000 new IRS agents that are going to make sure you comply with the law?  Well, it seems they’ll only pleased to do that if they are exempt from the ACA:

IRS employees have a prominent role in Obamacare, but their union wants no part of the law.

National Treasury Employees Union officials are urging members to write their congressional representatives in opposition to receiving coverage through President Obama’s health care law.

The union leaders are providing members with a form letter to send to the congressmen that says “I am very concerned about legislation that has been introduced by Congressman Dave Camp to push federal employees out of the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program and into the insurance exchanges established under the Affordable Care Act.”

The NTEU represents 150,000 federal employees overall, including most of the nearly 100,000 IRS workers.

This is the agency that will be collecting data on you and, if you’re not in compliance, levying the penalties and collecting them.  But under ObamaCare, they have the misfortune of having a “Cadillac plan”.  Currently their health care insurance is provided through the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program, the same program which covers members of Congress.  Naturally Congress has exempted themselves from the law.

You’ll no doubt remember that even when Nancy Pelosi said that they’d have to pass the legislation to find out what was in the legislation, unions doggedly stood behind its passage and gave it their support, even while critics correctly outlined the consequences of doing so.  And now, as Obama’s preacher of 20 years would say, the “chickens are coming home to roost”.  In a scathing letter to Democrat leaders in Congress earlier this month, the Teamsters – another union that backed the passage of the law – laid out the cold, hard truth:

When you and the President sought our support for the Affordable Care Act (ACA), you pledged that if we liked the health plans we have now, we could keep them. Sadly, that promise is under threat. Right now, unless you and the Obama Administration enact an equitable fix, the ACA will shatter not only our hard-earned health benefits, but destroy the foundation of the 40 hour work week that is the backbone of the American middle class.

Obama trotted out an economic plan a few days ago he claimed was aimed at helping the middle class. And he enjoined the Republicans to help him do that.  Given the Teamsters very correct take on the ACA and it’s effect on hiring and jobs, it would seem that in fact the best thing both parties could do to help the middle class is to defund or repeal this travesty of a law.

As Legal Insurrection points out:

It never really made sense to destroy a system that was satisfactory to the majority (253.4 million) to accommodate a mere fraction of that (10-30 million, depending on sources) …

It never made sense unless you had another ultimate goal in mind, that’s for sure.  But here we are – saddled with an intrusive and unworkable law that is going to destroy the medical insurance industry as we know it, drive up costs and ultimately fail.  If that wasn’t so serious, you could actually enjoy the delicious irony of the IRS union’s rejection of the very law they’re pledged to uphold and enforce.

Good for thee, but not for me.

The coming years are going to be mighty interesting, an American version of the SS, above authority, going after the people.

I should get a structural engineer out here to ascertain just how many more layers of sandbags my bunker can support.

They don’t want any part of Obamacare? Well, people in Hell don’t want fire, either.

Let them eat cake the sh*t sandwich they asked and voted for.

Liam on July 26, 2013 at 12:08 PM

The IRS, the Planned Parenthood and this thug will be in charge of your medical records, incl. gun records.

Schadenfreude on July 26, 2013 at 12:10 PM

This should be how the Reps change tacks.

Stop trying to defund it and instead close all the loopholes so all the people that got exemptions get sucked back into it.

That should gin up enough antipathy to kill it outright.

Because that’s what they did. Every time a powerful lobby says they don’t like it, they get an exemption. Everyone but the american public.

This thing needs to be killed.

OT but really not…mandatory reading.

Oooooohhh…a flak tower, you may be on to something; they took a pounding and survived.

Seems too obvious though, I like my bunkers to be less obvious so when the cities empty out the riffraff won’t have something to guide them from afar towards me.

Bishop on July 26, 2013 at 12:20 PM

Why would you need even 1 additional agent for ObamaCare, when all you need is a free computer program to check for compliance?

But here we are – saddled with an intrusive and unworkable law

And un-Constitutional, no matter what the mental midget, Benedict Roberts, says.

that is going to destroy the medical insurance industry as we know it,

And the health care industry! R+D will dry up as almost all of the world’s R+D was done only if the US market was the main target, since the US market was the only one that actually paid. The rest of the world would then pick up the new medicines, implements, and procedures free as they drafted off of the US. Now, the idiot leftists want the US to draft off of the US … as is typical lefty thinking. R+D will slow to a crawl. More death and pain for everyone! Yay!!

drive up costs and ultimately fail.

It doesn’t matter if implementations of leftist policies ultimately fail. They still don’t die. They just kill everything that touches them. The Soviet Union was a total failure but that didn’t stop it from limping along for over half a century and causing so much misery in the world.

All these problems cropping up with little dictator care are nothing more than setting the stage to impose single payer government control health care. Once again the American public is being played for fools.

I don’t think Congress is exempt from the law…according to factcheck, they will have to, in 2014, move from FEHBP to the exchanges.

If you want “fix” it, force Phony’s administration to enforce it to the letter of the law; no waivers, no Cadillac plans, no special deals for Congressional staffers and enforce the employer mandate. When the people are forcing it on the rest of us have to live with it, there will be changes.

Nothing like a $h!t sandwich served cold.

Proppressives should be embarrassed at how easy it is to imitate them – but they should embarrassed at supporting National Socialism in the first place, so why would they on this?

Anyway, here’s my rendition of the screeching from our Proggo friends:

The only reason the IRS employees don’t want to be covered by the ACA is because you Reethuggacans don’t want to properly fund free healthcare for all!!

You just want people to die without healthcare and the fact you did not help us with the ACA is your fault, that and the fact that we’re in deep deficits because of Bush’s illegal wars and giving tax breaks to the wealthy who don’t need them!

TeaPartyNation on July 26, 2013 at 1:38 PM

First, the war was worth it, the liberation of 30 million people and Iraqs assistance free elections prove that. Iraq is not falling apart, al qaida terrorism against soft targets dosnt prove Iraq is a failure anymore than 9/11 proves the US is failure. The liberals certainly are not helping with their failed foreign policy. If paleo cons and liberals agree that we should not have liberated Iraq then IMHO the USA can go f itself. It’s a nation of France like pussy cats. Geeze, if AQ does do another 9/11 I don’t think I will be too distraught, after all, it’s the natural order of the world that dedicated warriors toy with weak and spineless nations as they please.
