Boehner: It’s time to do something for the children of illegal immigrants

posted at 4:41 pm on July 17, 2013 by Allahpundit

The strongest sign yet that what emerges from the House will in fact include a path to citizenship — not for everyone, maybe, but certainly for DREAMers.

After dodging the issue for months, House Speaker John Boehner on Wednesday took a position on citizenship for undocumented immigrants, saying Congress must deal with the children of those who are in the United States illegally.

“This is about basic fairness. These children were brought here on no accord of their own. And frankly, they are in a very difficult position. And I think many of our members believe that this issue needs to be addressed,” Boehner said at the weekly press conference with House GOP leaders…

On Wednesday Cantor emphasized that this was one area where both political parties should work together to provide some certainty for children.

“The history of our country is one that has moved away from holding kids liable for the deeds, misdeeds, commitment of crimes by parents. These are, in many instances, kids without a country if we don’t allow them to become full citizens of our country,” Cantor told reporters Wednesday.

It’s not just Boehner and Cantor. Darrell Issa and House Judiciary Committee Chair Bob Goodlatte have also sounded warm to the idea of a limited DREAM-type amnesty for children recently. Like I said last week, if it’s a choice between a full path to citizenship for DREAMers versus legalization for all illegals without any new special path to citizenship, I’ll take door number one. Read Mickey Kaus to see why door number two, i.e. legalizing illegals right away without any preset procedure for green cards, would be an utter messaging and policy disaster for the GOP. You’ll get no goodwill from Latinos for it; Democrats screeching about “second-class status” will see to that. And you’ll get no real leverage on border security from it if the initial legalization happens before the border is secured, which Democrats will absolutely insist on in one form or another. Case in point: The new “Gang of Seven” bill in the House wants “legalization first” for illegals, but proposes letting that legal status be rescinded if the feds can’t get E-Verify up and running in five years. Show of hands: Who thinks Democrats would happily acquiesce in letting illegals be re-illegalized five years from now because security measures are lagging? It’s a scam and a nonstarter.

If the House somehow convinced the Senate and Obama to accept a “legalization without citizenship” plan now, the Dems will simply browbeat the GOP into creating a citizenship path for illegals sometime in the next year or two, which means the House bill in due time will end up looking a lot like the Senate bill — a full amnesty in due course with no real guarantees of stronger border enforcement. If the name of the game here is building goodwill with Latinos, better to give sympathetic DREAMers a path to citizenship and leave the fate of everyone else to be determined later, when Republicans control Congress and can use that leverage to force real border guarantees in exchange for wider legalization. If Chuck Schumer thinks that’s not good enough, that’s fine. Let him and the Democrats in the Senate kill the House’s DREAM proposal.

For a sneak preview of the Democratic “second-class status” attack on Republicans, skip to 4:25 here and watch The One make the case to Telemundo Denver. If the House passes legalization without citizenship instead of DREAM, Schumer won’t be nearly this soft-spoken in pushing this talking point in 2014 and 2015.

And yet, Mr. Snowden remains a man without a country, stuck in an airport lounge.

Think of the horror of sticking illegal aliens in airport lounges until they find a place to go, and a way to get there. Why, that would be inhuman.

Let’s let all the inmates out of prison that have children because it’s not fair to the kids to lock their parents up and separate their families! The only fair thing to do is give people with children an automatic get out of jail free card.

Time to do something for them? You mean, beyond the free education, healthcare, government welfare, in-state tuition that we don’t provide to out of state US citizens, and other stuff the taxpayers are already providing? Yeah, it’s a shame we’re not doing anything for them, ain’t it?

Keep in mind this will be at the expense of children who are natural born citizens, and are wholly ignored in the debate about the effect of amnesty.

Which is why the parents of American children and other voters who care about American children need to work hard to REPLACE ANY POLITICIAN at the Federal, State or local level, who supports AMNESTY / LEGAL STATUS / PATH TO DUAL-CITIZENSHIP / SANCTUARY CITIES or any other benefits for ILLEGAL aliens.

It is our responsibility to fight this battle on behalf of AMERICAN CHILDREN!

Ugggh….things that DON’T belong to them.

Hey Boner, I guess it’s time to grant amnesty to every child living in the third world. It’s not their fault they weren’t born in America, right?

Please, there is only one answer. Send them home with their criminal parents. NO MORE ANCHOR BABIES.

The answer to illegal immigration is as follows:
1. No Amnesty.
2. Secure and protect ALL borders.
3. Arrest and deport ALL illegal aliens, including Obama’s relatives.
4. No more anchor babies.
5. No more free food, housing, healthcare/medical, education or other welfare benefits.
6. Enforce E-Verify with ALL employers; start assessing major fines and penalties.
7. No more driver’s licenses for illegal aliens.
8. ENGLISH only.
9. No voting rights.
Enough of these CRIMINALS taking over America. What about OUR rights????

Government employees are welcome to donate their personal fortunes to “doing something” for these people, but the “something” they should be “doing” is sending the lawbreakers and their families back where they belong.

For the children…

Reminds me of a 90s film called ‘The Hudsucker Proxy’. Dumbazz goof wrangles a mailroom job at gigantic toy company. Finally forces his way into a meeting of bigwigs and draws a picture of his brilliant idea: a big circle. “It’s for the kids!” he repeatedly insists. “For the kids!”

This gives the board of directors the perfect idiot to put Dumbazz in as CEO so they can run everything behind the scenes. Now, Mr. Boehner is no perfect idiot (heh). But is there some entity–big business/donors–running this immigration agenda behind the scenes?

Maybe, like the film, he’ll surprise us and, as CEO, put forth something as massively successful as the Hula Hoop (“For the Kids!”) and be impossible to remove from leadership. Somehow, this seems doubtful.

How about what’s “fair” to OUR children? It certainly hasn’t been “fair” that we spend our tax money, educating non-English speaking children in order to catch them up to their classmates. Every time we spend on one, we take away from someone else. How many gifted programs have we had to give up over the years in order to give the basics to remedial education?

Just a couple weeks ago, while shopping in a local grocery store, I happened to notice a couple with a little girl who was whining for some little trinket or candy; a ubiquitous and heart-warming scene, repeated daily millions of times all over the planet. But it lost its joy for me because it all happened in Spanish, and the first thought I had, was… who’s going to teach her English? Who’s going to PAY for that.

I feel bad for these kids whose PARENTS have put them in a rotten position. But making a market for even MORE illegal migration isn’t the answer. It’s not fair to the rest of US.

Akzed on July 17, 2013 at 6:18 PM

Dear Speaker Boehner,

With all due respect, you are speaking out of your a55. Your past inaction and lack of leadership have allowed this issue to become all “about the children.” Spare us the histrionics. Stop the weepy, hand-wringing false empathy.

The parents of the “children living in the shadows” created a huge problem by sneaking across our borders in contravention of our laws and they cannot plead ignorance of their unlawfulness. Now, our elected representatives have crafted a pork-laden monstrosity that burdens the American taxpayer in perpetuity without ever truly solving the real problem. They break our laws, we reward them generously for having done so–that seems to be your solution.

We have a problem with people illegally crossing our borders. Fix that problem. It is already the law. Fund it. Enforce it.

We have a separate problem with people, including children, who are living here illegally. Paste any politically-correct euphemism you like into that sentence (e.g., undocumented), they did not immigrate legally.

Fix the root cause. Then come talk to us about people living in the shadows. It will be a whole lot easier for American tax-paying citizens to swallow amnesty (what you’re really asking us to accept) if they are certain we won’t have to ever re-visit the matter again.

Until then, please do not pretend to be working on behalf of the American people who elected you. You are simply trying to find a way to be re-elected and we all resent you for such short-sightedness. Besides, how many of these people will EVER vote anything other than Democrat?

Sincerely,
Weary, Overtaxed American

The Martin/Zimmerman tragedy has completely engulfed the media, even talk radio, and has allowed the politicians cover for amnesty antics, washed away the IRS scandals and foreign policy scandals and left many Americans more concerned over a self-defense case in Florida than in the fact the government is spying on them.

My cousin in Indiana contacted Todd Young(R) and got a nice form letter applauding the Rubio Amnesty Bill and pointing to the bill as a great piece of legislation on border security. If Congressman Young votes for Rubio’s amnesty, then he has lost a life-long Republican’s vote. Mr. Young is fooling himself if he thinks the Hispanics in the area are going to vote for him.

How many other Republicans in the House feel like Rubio’s bill gives them cover as border hawks, strong on border enforcement.

Where I live, many Americans are having trouble finding work or are working 2 part time jobs and now they are going to have to compete with a new class of Americans, the Obamacare not required class.

If you are saying another 40 or so years then I agree with you. At this point we are about 96 years into the progressive era and the downward spiral is accelerating. Rome used the Christian Religion to hold there culture together for an extra couple hundred or so years. We are busy purging any philosophy or religion that can act as glue to hold the society together.

chemman on July 17, 2013 at 7:41 PM

The last days of Rome…

… for the children.

Seven Percent Solution on July 17, 2013 at 5:19 PM

Hey, maybe that’s his grand plan. Screw up the country so bad that by the time you hand it over to the Dreamers, it’ll be fried, and the joke will be on them. Brilliant!

SailorMark on July 17, 2013 at 7:46 PM

We don’t want Boehner to bring ANY related Immigration bill to the floor because it will pass. Then it goes to Conference and we’ll get the Senate bill that just passed.

bluefox on July 17, 2013 at 7:52 PM

…and of course most of you will continue to vote for the GOP.

Panther on July 17, 2013 at 7:52 PM

I guess anybody can claim to be one of these illegal children…I mean who’s gonna check?

nobody.

workingclass artist on July 17, 2013 at 7:40 PM

No one will check. I asked up thread what the maximum age are these “children”. Then they can be the ones to sponsor their illegal family members that are already here, right?

The main point, whatever Boehner and the House talks about is a distraction. We don’t want ANY bill to come to the floor and I’m sure you know why.

bluefox on July 17, 2013 at 7:56 PM

“This is about basic fairness. These children were brought here on no accord of their own. And frankly, they are in a very difficult position. And I think many of our members believe that this issue needs to be addressed,”

They’re Mexican citizens. Send them home. And like most countries, end the sham that if you’re born here of foreign nationals, you’re automatically a US citizen.

GarandFan on July 17, 2013 at 7:57 PM

And if Republicans cave they will get no credit or votes for doing so. The base will hate them even more. So by all means, go forward with this. The Republican Party needs to die anyway.

echosyst on July 17, 2013 at 7:58 PM

If all else fails, do as Obama does. Get some children and use them as props to promote the latest legislation.

mobydutch on July 17, 2013 at 7:58 PM

A Nation goes from a system of laws to absolute decay by rewarding the rich, shafting the citizens and making up laws as it went along.

It took Rome 400 years to collapse from that.

We will do it in less than 40.

Good job!

PROGRESS!!!

ajacksonian on July 17, 2013 at 6:01 PM

But The Economy! Think about The Economy!

What’s the point of being a member of the GOP these days? We’re basically Democrats minus the smug social status, Hollywood parties, and revolving door backstage pass to the easy life of white liberal aristocracy.

Honestly, why support this party when it just follows the Democrats, who, as they have proven, are the real power in the United States if not the entire world?

Gay marriage – check.

Path to single-payer health care – check.

Mass third world immigration – check.

Choice! – check.

Welfare state – check.

Societal chaos and disintegration – check.

They get everything — everything. Republicans get absolutely nothing and have to take the lumps too in the classroom, on TV, in print, etc. etc. ad nauseum. And soon, even being associated with conservatism or the GOP will be criminalized by the roaming lynch mobs incited by the Democrat Ruling Class.

I just don’t contribute anymore but I will not vote for D’s. I will find the best conservative running and if none write myself in.

chemman on July 17, 2013 at 8:03 PM

Boehner: It’s time to do something for the children of illegal immigrants for a third party.

“In part three of three of his six-part interview with The Daily Caller, National ICE Council president Chris Crane explained what President Obama’s actions on immigration and blind eye to illegal immigration has made it nearly impossible for ICE agents to enforce the law.

“We can’t have Presidents of the United States picking and choosing which laws will and will not be enforced.” Crane said.

Crane went on to explain how President Obama’s de facto repeal of immigration enforcement has led to serious and dangerous criminals being set free. “What the Obama Administration has ICE agents now doing is we now go into jails and prisons looking for illegal aliens inside of those facilities who have committed and been convicted of crimes. So we apply the Dream Act not to kids, in schools, but to adult inmates and have to ask them basically ‘Do you qualify for President Obama’s Dream Act?’ When they tell us ‘Yes we qualify’ we can’t even require them to give us any kind of proof, a transcript, or anything like that. We can’t detain them for investigation to substantiate the claims, we simply have to release them to the street. They walk out the back door of the jail as ‘Dreamers.’ There is nothing we can do about that.

Crane then related a story of a man who was detained for assaulting a family member, injured two ICE officers during his arrest and, despite the serious nature of his crime, was released because ICE managers informed the arresting officers that ‘He’s an Obama Dreamer, release him.’ Crane went on to explain “No investigation, no criminal charges, no consideration of the public safety threat. He’s an Obama Dreamer, let him go, and that’s a scary situation.”

Unemployment remains high.
Deficit spending remains out of control.
We STILL do not have a consitutionally mandated federal budget.
Fast and Furious.
Benghazi.
NSA spying
Justice Department interference

And what’s number one on Boehner’s agenda?

For the children… of immigrants.

How about the starving children of CITIZENS in America right now?
How about the children dying in Chicago?

Get bent Boehner.

Not one more dime for your cause… go get it from your rich buddies.

Skywise on July 17, 2013 at 8:08 PM

We need a one man gang!

socalcon on July 17, 2013 at 8:18 PM

Our education system has enough problems already turning out educated Americans without welcoming even more illegals to run for the border. I’m close to no longer caring what happens to the Republican party.

poli-nana on July 17, 2013 at 8:23 PM

Voting out Boehner and Cantor from their “leadership”
positions right now would send the message that needs to be
sent: Enforce the law secure the border/interior, NO AMNESTY

DaMav on July 17, 2013 at 8:30 PM

This a message from The American Government…

If you are a native of another country you can come to America…and not be prosecuted for any crime…or pay any taxes…or pay your medical expenses…and you will be first in line for jobs…

Just vote the (D) at the voting booth.

That is all.

workingclass artist on July 17, 2013 at 8:31 PM
