Zimmerman juror: He may have been overzealous but his heart was in the right place

posted at 12:41 pm on July 16, 2013 by Allahpundit

An historical document from last night’s “Anderson Cooper.” Skip to 21:00 if you want to hear her describe the initial jury split (three for not guilty, two for manslaughter, one for second-degree murder), but I recommend starting no later than 10:00 in if you’re pressed for time in order to hear her take on Zimmerman himself. The only way the state was going to pinch him on second-degree murder was to convince the jury that he was a racist monster spoiling for a fight — the media version of Zimmerman, in other words. They failed completely. She says she thought his heart was in the right place in conducting neighborhood watch, even if he shouldn’t have gotten out of his car to pursue Martin, and goes on to say at 19:00 that she might be okay even now with him conducting neighborhood watch in her area. Quote: “I think he’s learned a good lesson.” When Cooper presses her by asking if she’s comfortable with him carrying a gun again, not only does she say yes, she adds, “I think he’d be more responsible than anybody else on this planet right now.” Zimmerman’s own parents couldn’t endorse his basic character any more robustly than that. Many commentators, including William Saletan in the piece Ed spotlighted this morning, have noted that the jury’s verdict doesn’t necessarily mean that they thought Zimmerman was innocent, only that he wasn’t guilty beyond a reasonable doubt of murder or manslaughter given the particularities of Florida’s self-defense law. After watching this, I don’t know. This juror, at least, seems to have wholly accepted the defense’s version of him as entirely guileless, if a bit overzealous, in wanting to protect his community. It’s a total victory for the defense. But then, as she says, she was disposed to find him not guilty from the get go. The three jurors who disagreed initially might differ.

She was planning to write a book but has now decided against it, partly, it seems, because she underestimated how much attention the trial’s gotten (and how dangerous it is for anyone who contributed to Zimmerman’s acquittal) and partly because the publisher was already getting flack for it from social media. She’s better off lying low.

I know many of us have wondered why there’s been no reaction to Saint Trayvon and Jeantel’s ridiculous and irrational homophobia.

The reason of course is that the liberal media will not discuss anti-gay bigotry in the black community. Ditto black on brown racism. That might split the democratic party base! Better to just ignore it.

She was absolutely fascinating. Note how she called both men by their first names. She stated that both men were responsible for their behavior, both made mistakes. She felt sorry for both men.

She humanized George Zimmerman in a way that only a juror could.

She also stuck to the facts and the law. Which make her more suited to run the Department of Justice than the current guy.

FYI, from Drudge, here is a transcript of Jeantel’s “gay rapist” comments on Piers Morgan last night:

MORGAN: You felt that there was no doubt in your mind from what Trayvon was telling you on the phone about the creepy ass cracka and so on, that he absolutely believed that George Zimmerman, this man, you didn’t know who he was at the time, but this man, was pursuing him?

JEANTEL: Yes.

MORGAN: And he was freaked out by it?

JEANTEL: Yes. Definitely after I say may be a rapist, for every boy, for every man, every — who’s not that kind of way, seeing a grown man following them, would they be creep out?

Zimmerman as a neighborhood watch volunteer (a little like a community organizer) meant to help and protect his neighbors. There’s the “thin blue line” of the police, but another important tipping point is our relationships with our neighbors. To reach out to them, and to let them get involved in your life, isn’t that the stuff of life? Compassion in action? Is there something more precious than that? I feel assured that if some of Zimmerman’s neighbors were black, he’d do the same for them. His parents said to Baba Wawa that most of his close friends were black.

Yeah, his heart was in the right place. I believe that. Maybe he WAS a police wannabe. Maybe he DID want to be a “big man”. Don’t we all have flaws and faults? For whatever reasons, he appeared to make real efforts and personal sacrifices to help others. Again, that’s the stuff of life. Giving of yourself to help others. And now he’s painted as a crazy ass cracker. Or to be more polite about it, a white Hispanic who killed a kid for no good reason.

Almost 50 years ago President Lyndon Baines Johnson had a
“little” meeting with then Governor George Wallace. The topic?

Blacks in the state of Alabama having the “right to vote”

As recounted by then US Attorney General Nick Katzenbach,
President Johnson pressed Wallace as to WHY blacks in his
state were being denied the Right to Vote. Wallace insisted
HE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH IT, it was up to the County
Registers to “allow” them to vote.

Johnson leaned in on Wallace and said,
“Don’t you Sh*t me as to WHO runs Alabama”

Fast forward to today…..we have Barach WALLACE Obama.
A man who stirs up racial strife, then says
“Who, me?”

Sadly, “nigga” not being racial in the black community(especially amongst youngsters) is pretty much true. It’s practically the equivalent of calling a person “dude” or “man” in some circles.

Doughboy on July 16, 2013 at 1:04 PM

I started carrying a gun regularly, as in every day, over thirty years ago. I lived for 20 years in one of the most dangerous counties in the country. It was very shortly after I began carrying that I realized I would have to change my behavior while I was carrying. I simply couldn’t afford to let disagreements get out of hand, or let potential threats get too close. Carrying made me more cautious, not less.

Zimmerman’s biggest mistake appears to have been underestimating the young man he suspected of being up to no good. Tactically, he lost track of the suspect, and failed to maintain situational awareness. He let himself be ambushed. He almost paid for those errors with his life, and what life he has left is changed forever.

Good intentions aren’t enough to protect you. A gun isn’t enough to protect you. You have to be aware of your tactical situation at all times. It has to become part of your life, or you really shouldn’t be carrying.

And as this part of the post-trial episode unfolds, African-American youth are showing how they ‘protest’ civilly by beating a Hispanic man in Baltimore.

Baltimore police say they are investigating a witness account that a group of black youths beat a Hispanic man near Patterson Park Sunday while saying, “This is for Trayvon.”

A witness posted the account on a community Facebook page, and police confirmed they are looking into whether the suspects’ reaction to the verdict in the Florida trial of George Zimmerman played a part in the incident. A police report on the beating does not mention the alleged comments.

I can’t wait for the DOJ to open up an investigation into this hate crime…/

I pretty much agree with this. He shouldn’t have followed Martin, to whatever extent he did. But, at the same time, he didn’t do so because he’s a racist, or because he wanted to shoot a kid just grabbin’ some skittles. Regardless, there was a confrontation, Zimmerman was getting the worst of it, and he defended himself. That’s not against the law, it was absurd for them to bring those charges, and it’s despicable that they continue to label him a murderer even after the verdict.

Look for these interviews to come to a screeching halt. This stuff is Narrative kryptonite.

rrpjr on July 16, 2013 at 1:14 PM

You are spot on.

The Leftist/MSM complex are in full crisis containment spin mode right now. (Rush really threw a surprise bag of dog poop into the works!)

If this new meme (homophobia) gets traction it could lead into some very weird contortions for fitting The Narrative.

Thank you God for giving us Jeantel. This land will make her a millionnaire, proving, after obama, that all things are possible, only in America.

You, dear God, have a weird sense of humor.

Thank you for the laughts.

Schadenfreude on July 16, 2013 at 1:27 PM

Did Jeantel testify to any of the gay or rapist innuendo she she spouted on Morgan?

Dusty on July 16, 2013 at 1:24 PM

Yes.

On the stand she said she and Trayvon though Zimmerman was a rapist.

The response of the media…

*crickets*

Hope she writes the book, she can publish it later. It won’t bring in as much money as a release would now, but this isn’t a rational market of ideas anymore.

Well, it is out in the public record now, but, I think you are right. Circle the wagons and send her on an all expenses paid trip to Paris for a month. By herself.:)

They all voted for obama – they are the dummies of the land on full display. The media must be embarrassed.

The fact that they gave up on the most brilliant legal system in the world is the other embarrassment.

They will Never Be Free, never.

They are always tyrants, their poverty pimps that is. One day they’ll wake up and will pitchfork their modern day plantation administrators…for powere and glory only. These pimps hate their folks, passionately.

kinda blows it wide open don’t it…

In the Black community…there are many who think most Gays are white and there has been an uptick in black youth gay bashing in urban areas.

That’s why that Down Low book caused such a kerfluffle within the community when it was published a while back.

There is a hierarchy of victimhood among liberals. If a white gay needs to use deadly force to protect himself against a gay-bashing thug, the media will ignore it. If they can’t ignore it, they’ll make the white gay man into a racist.

Liam on July 16, 2013 at 1:35 PM

I was wondering what St. Trayvon’s motivation was and it fits that Jabba Jeantel inspired his rage with her gay rapist suggestions. You know she never tried to call him back after the phone was cut off when the fight started. She learned about Trayvon’s death 2 days later. She knew what she had done. It’s why she didn’t go the funeral. Jabba’s got some ‘splaining to do.

Evidently Obama’s son was a raging homophobe who was killed in the midst of his Violent Gay Panic Delusion.

I’ll bet Obama and Reggie aren’t thrilled by his son now…
