Zimmerman juror: He may have been overzealous but his heart was in the right place

posted at 12:41 pm on July 16, 2013 by Allahpundit

An historical document from last night’s “Anderson Cooper.” Skip to 21:00 if you want to hear her describe the initial jury split (three for not guilty, two for manslaughter, one for second-degree murder), but I recommend starting no later than 10:00 in if you’re pressed for time in order to hear her take on Zimmerman himself. The only way the state was going to pinch him on second-degree murder was to convince the jury that he was a racist monster spoiling for a fight — the media version of Zimmerman, in other words. They failed completely. She says she thought his heart was in the right place in conducting neighborhood watch, even if he shouldn’t have gotten out of his car to pursue Martin, and goes on to say at 19:00 that she might be okay even now with him conducting neighborhood watch in her area. Quote: “I think he’s learned a good lesson.” When Cooper presses her by asking if she’s comfortable with him carrying a gun again, not only does she say yes, she adds, “I think he’d be more responsible than anybody else on this planet right now.” Zimmerman’s own parents couldn’t endorse his basic character any more robustly than that. Many commentators, including William Saletan in the piece Ed spotlighted this morning, have noted that the jury’s verdict doesn’t necessarily mean that they thought Zimmerman was innocent, only that he wasn’t guilty beyond a reasonable doubt of murder or manslaughter given the particularities of Florida’s self-defense law. After watching this, I don’t know. This juror, at least, seems to have wholly accepted the defense’s version of him as entirely guileless, if a bit overzealous, in wanting to protect his community. It’s a total victory for the defense. But then, as she says, she was disposed to find him not guilty from the get go. The three jurors who disagreed initially might differ.

She was planning to write a book but has now decided against it, partly, it seems, because she underestimated how much attention the trial’s gotten (and how dangerous it is for anyone who contributed to Zimmerman’s acquittal) and partly because the publisher was already getting flack for it from social media. She’s better off lying low.

There is a hierarchy of victimhood among liberals. If a white gay needs to use deadly force to protect himself against a gay-bashing thug, the media will ignore it. If they can’t ignore it, they’ll make the white gay man into a racist.

Can we just fire back with truth instead of bending to the media propaganda? Why is there anything wrong with Zimmerman being a “police wannabe”? Isn’t that how all neighborhood watch volunteers would be classified? What is wrong with wanting to keep watch over your neighbors and help prevent crime in the area? How is this a bad thing?

Seems to me that the media portrayal of all this will put a serious damper on neighborhood watch efforts, resulting in higher crime for neighborhoods everywhere. yay us! (/sarc)

They probably couldn’t find any suitable black jurors if they tried. In Sanford the jury pool was 10:1 White: Black. And with all the press and beloved Angela Corey biasing the Blacks in the area, how could they find any that already hadn’t made up their minds that GZ was a racist and a murderer.

JEANTEL: Yes. Definitely after I say may be a rapist, for every boy, for every man, every — who’s not that kind of way, seeing a grown man following them, would they be creep out?

She continued:

“And people need to understand, he didn’t want that creepy ass cracker going to his father or girlfriend’s house to go get — mind you, his little brother was there. You know — now, mind you, I told you — I told Trayvon it might have been a rapist.”

Developing…

Wow. That clears that up. The gay-bashing bigoted Trayvon went after Zimmerman because he thought he was gay and therefor would be raping Trayvon and his little brother. I wonder why this didn’t come out in the trial?

Why do blacks hate gays so much that they think that all gays are rapists?

oldroy on July 16, 2013 at 2:04 PM

This juror, at least, seems to have wholly accepted the defense’s version of him as entirely guileless, if a bit overzealous, in wanting to protect his community.

She found him “overzealous” in wanting to “help too much”.

She did not really make sense in this line of questioning and she was struggling to try to say something, anything, less than positive about Zimmerman. She was trying to throw a bone to AC and to all of the race baiters, race hustlers, and the mob she has gotten a good look at since leaving the courthouse Saturday night. She says she was shocked to find out how controversial the trial was and how angry some people were at the verdict.

Note the obvious. She does not want her identity known. She is obviously afraid and intimidated. And yet AC could not get her to openly admit to that.

I guess we now know that “creepy azz” is code for gay rapist. We already knew what “cracker” meant.

Rachel Jeantel, by her own words has torn the whole “Zimmerman was the aggressor bigot” theme apart. She goosed Trayvon into going after Zimmerman because he was gay and might be a rapist. It should be interesting if she told the Prosecution about this.

Skip to 21:00 if you want to hear her describe the initial jury split (three for not guilty, two for manslaughter, one for second-degree murder),

Some are trying to make a big deal out of this, as if it proves something. It does not.

The prosecution’s appeal to emotion and demonization of Zimmerman had some initial influence. No surprise, especially with a jury of six women. The prosecution spent a lot of time on emotional appeal in their closing argument. They didn’t really have much else. the made their initial vote very soon after that, without hearing a final rebuttal from the defense. An appeal to emotion was the last thing their heard, for about an hour.

After that initial vote the jury started looking closely at the evidence and the law. The jury spent a lot of time trying to understand the legalize the jury instructions, the law, and the charges were written in.

One must also note that if the jurors got a look at the evidence on Martin’s cell phone showing his love of fighting and his past fighting experience the initial emotionally influenced vote would have been different. The defense was given no opportunity to authenticate that evidence and they would have been able to do that. It would have been admissible because the prosecution opened the door by exploring Zimmerman’s “MMA training” and his physical conditioning.

The prosecution tried every underhanded, unethical, and illegal tactic they thought they could get away with. They based their case almost exclusivity on appeals to emotion and casting doubt on Zimmerman’s statements. And they still lost quite handily. The jury apparently spent a lot of their time trying to understand the jury instructions and the technical legal language the law and the charges were written in.

Also, the defense could have and should have more deeply explored the conspiracy to railroad Zimmerman and the corruption of the system required to do it. But O’Mara is part of that system and he still has to work in it, so he did not really go there. He only touched on it and hinted about it in the trial.

This is why the prospect of equality may never actually happen. Too many “leaders” of the black community have a financial stake in stoking the flames of racial hatred. Since most whites have come around, all they can do is make blacks think nothing has changed.

If this thread isn’t proof of how much you guys rely on Rush Limbaugh and the radio for your points of view, nothing is.

OF COURSE, Jeantel or whatever her name is is gonna say “creepy a** cracka” had NOTHING to do with race, he was jus afraid the guy was gonna try to sexually assault him or something.

But that’s absolute bs, and you all know it. The NARRATIVE was the Zimmerman was the rascist, not Trayvon. THAT’s why they’re trying to say it wasn’t a rascist description when “cracka” is a black on white rascist term.

But its funny. Here’s a little experiment for you. Try it at home. Go to any conservative blog and read the comments on a hot topic thread for that day, IN THE MORNING, and see what people’s “opinions” on it are, THEN, wait until Rush’s show is off and go back.

Now, see how many people suddenly are of the same opinion as Rush was an hour ago. People who in the morning beforehand had no notion whatsoever of it.

Act like the radio, who’s whole purpose is to tell you things you want to hear so you’ll be tuned in when they play the ads and make money off of you, isn’t your opinion source. Liars.

Rachel Jeantel is being bashed for pointing out the obvious. She didn’t say anything homophobic, and it’s not a stretch at all to consider that Trayvon Martin might have thought George Zimmerman was a rapist or worse.

So, GZ profiled TM as a criminal, and TM profiled GZ as a possible gay rapist. It’s a wash. As I said on another thread, it doesn’t matter who profiled whom.

The fallout from this case is the OJ case in reverse. For racists and even non-racists who believe blacks play the race card too much, this is a chance to gloat. We don’t need to further litigate this case, and nobody will change their opinions about anything at this point, but it’s kind of stupid to pretend that TM didn’t at least have some reasons to be afraid of and suspicious of GZ.
