The “serious” post on Egypt has 12 comments as I write this. Last night’s ode to schlock has 140 and nearly twice that many “likes” on Facebook. It’s quite clear what’s happened here: Like the rest of America, you guys have “Sharknado” fee-vah and won’t be able to concentrate on news until the itch is scratched. I won’t fight you. Scratch away.

At 9 p.m. ET on Syfy, you will believe that bad weather can make giant fish fly. (And yes, of course there’s a climate-change plotline.) Judging from the buzz on Twitter today, this is going to be a social-media phenomenon on the order of a presidential debate; here’s your hashtag in case you want to group-watch but don’t have real friends.
