Audio: Palin considering Senate run in Alaska in 2014?

posted at 8:01 pm on July 9, 2013 by Allahpundit

Via SarahNet, something newsy from today’s Hannity radio show. The key bit comes from 9:34 to 11:19, or, if you prefer, NewsBusters has a partial transcript. My sense after listening to this is that she’s giving an answer similar to the one Allen West gave when he was asked recently if he’d primary Rubio in 2016. If you’re a young former officeholder with a base of loyal supporters, you have no incentive to rule out running for something when someone asks if you might, whatever your true feelings about it are. The prospect of West or Palin or anyone else jumping back in to restart their political career by challenging an incumbent adds extra media weight to their thoughts of the day. They have every reason to keep hope alive, even if they’re reluctant to the point of (almost) ruling it out. E.g., at one point here she refers to running for Senate as something one might have to do to help the cause “even if perhaps it’s something that doesn’t look necessarily appealing.” Much depends, she says, on the line-up, whether Begich gets a young, fresh, conservative challenger rather than “the same old politicians in the state that come from political families,” which is her way of needling her old enemy Lisa Murkowski. Joe Miller has already said he’s running again, and since Palin endorsed him in 2010, I assume that means she thinks her brand of conservatism is already adequately represented in the race.

Begich isn’t a terribly weak incumbent, either, by the standards of blue senators from red states. Alaska polls are always dodgy but left-leaning PPP had him at 49/39 in February and then 41/37 in April after his “no” vote on the Toomey/Manchin background-checks bill. Even if that’s accurate (Alaskans feeling grumbly over a vote in support of gun rights?), the public will forgive and forget in time. And needless to say, none of his Republican opponents will be running to his left on guns. If he starts to float back upward towards 50 percent approval, the combo of incumbency and national Democratic money to help save a saveable seat in an otherwise unfavorable election climate will make him tough to beat by anyone.

If Sarah runs for Senate, or anything else, she will have as much financial support as she needs – all she has to do is ask. For my family, and just about everyone we know, Sarah is the one “politician” whom we trust implicitly, and whom we will support, without question. Sarah is truly a rare bird.

I think this would be great. I think she could make a great senator.

bluegill on July 9, 2013 at 8:26 PM

I thought Joe Miller was sure to run?

Anyway, I think she can win despite what the naysaysers claim, but it’ll be a rough-and-tumble campaign. Her rep’s taken a hit in Alaska (she can get some of her old support back by through hard, grassroots campaigning). Begich and the Dems are champing at the bit to run against her, Of course, there’s the Murkowski sabotage factor.

However, it would really, really surprise me if she ran against Joe Miller.

Robert_Paulson on July 9, 2013 at 8:27 PM

Palin threw that tidbit out there to see what the reaction will be. She will base her decision on that.

She has supporters nationwide who will contribute to her campaign however, what do Alaska voters think of Palin currently? Not the idiots
that are lefties and rinos, however, the persons that supported her previously when she was on city council, oil and gas commissioner and governor? They are the ones that count since they will be voting.

Personally, I hope she runs. It will be interesting to see what the lefties and rinos will do to try and destroy her (once again). I would think that voters would be a little more informed as to the lies told after the 30,000+ email colonoscopy failed to turn up any dirt.

Robert_Paulson on July 9, 2013 at 8:27 PM

Wouldn’t surprise me. Miller was initially supported by Todd Palin as they were friendly. Then Sarah joined in support. I believe Joe Miller became full of himself after winning the primary, dissed the Palin’s in emails, voice mails, whatever; then the lefties ganged up on him and he lost the race. At any rate, something like that went down. I haven’t heard either Palin say a good word about Miller since.

I wish Miller would not run. If More-coke&booze-ski can beat you running as an independent on a write-in campaign in a reliably red state during an anti-incumbent year then you’re just not cut out for it. But I’d prefer some other conservative to run and for Palin to keep her powder dry and take on More-coke&booze-ski when she’s up for reelection.

Note to the TEA Party everywhere, myself included: Don’t blow it with meaningless RINO hunts. Safe seats are one thing. But don’t make the perfect the enemy of the good in places like Delaware.

And note to the GOP: Sixth year elections are the time to paint in bold strokes. From here until the Tuesday after the first Monday in November 2014, compromise is, in fact, a dirty word.

Palin won’t run for senate.

To paraphrase Wallace Shawn: only a great fool would run for senate and Palin is not a great fool.

I keep seeing these polls in the ads on hot-air saying “will Palin run for Senate”. It would be interesting to know who is funding them because the idea is to do the same thing as was done to Bachman in the house.

gh on July 9, 2013 at 9:18 PM

“I, along with anybody, would have to say that I would do whatever I could to help.”

[S]he refers to running for Senate as something one might have to do to help the cause “even if perhaps it’s something that doesn’t look necessarily appealing.”

Thank goodness my decoder ring came today! Turned signal to SP and:

“No, Sean. Despite the entreaties of my many fans, I will not allow them to waste their hopes on another Sarah Palin run. For any office. Ever. My voice, my vote, my advocacy will be witnessed across this great land each time a solid Conservative joins the fray and invites me to help him or her get elected. That is the capacity in which I will serve the best interests of our party and our Country.”

Tell me again how Sarah, after 8 years of scandal, incompetence, cronyism, lawlessness, high unemployment, an economy in shambles, racial antagonism, numerous foreign policy fuggups, political attacks from the DOJ, NSA, IRS, and EPA, and the implementation of ObamaCare, would not utterly crush Hillary “what difference does it make?” Clinton…?

Sarah has the sack to say what McCain and Romney would not dare…

Note to the TEA Party everywhere, myself included: Don’t blow it with meaningless RINO hunts. Safe seats are one thing. But don’t make the perfect the enemy of the good in places like Delaware.JohnGalt23 on July 9, 2013 at 9:13 PM

Good advice. Also, we need to do better research on those R’s that will be running for the seats. A lot better than we did on Rubio’s FL record on immigration.

bluefox on July 9, 2013 at 9:27 PM

I wonder if she would have voted for the immigration bill?

You misspelled decency.

I don’t care if it tastes like Lobster. Have you ever seen a hagfish?

…I think…I just sh!t my shorts!

KOOLAID2 on July 9, 2013 at 9:23 PM

If you weren’t wearing pants…

Y’all know the hagfish will have more permanent damage from biting her tongue.

Writing something nice has her gagging in the toilet.

We have T.P. in every State. The problem with the IRS not giving the T.P & Conservative Organizations Non-Profit Status still exists. None have been contacted by the IRS. Everything is still the same.

80% of Alaska’s economy is based on oil and gas, yet one of their senators is a DemocRAT.

I wonder if you’ve read Palin’s thoughts on immigration recently?

idesign on July 9, 2013 at 9:33 PM

It breaks my heart, but voting for her is like voting for Charles Schumer.

Hog Wild on July 9, 2013 at 9:12 PM

No, voting for Marco Rubio is like voting for Schumer.

Ladysmith CulchaVulcha on July 9, 2013 at 9:34 PM

I keep seeing these polls in the ads on hot-air saying “will Palin run for Senate”. It would be interesting to know who is funding them because the idea is to do the same thing as was done to Bachman in the house.

gh on July 9, 2013 at 9:18 PM

Someone on HA said they are collecting emails. I don’t know who they are either, since I don’t participate. If I had to bet, it’s one of her many enemies:-)

bluefox on July 9, 2013 at 9:36 PM

Senator Palin. President Palin. Hmm.

SparkPlug on July 9, 2013 at 9:36 PM

Palin better hope Bachmann doesn’t move up to Alaska and run for office, because Snow Bunny got used as a floor mop by MB last time around.

Was that before or after Tardigate?

KOOLAID2 on July 9, 2013 at 9:23 PM

Now, Mr. Kool. You know that Sarah’s enemies would just LOVE to tie her up in the Senate. Get her off the National Stage. We can’t have her supporting and endorsing Conservatives and those Tea Parties and having Rallies!!!

bluefox on July 9, 2013 at 9:40 PM

If she runs for Senate, I would contribute to her campaign, even from my current stomping grounds of Southwest Oklahoma. Ted Cruz needs back up, and she stays true to form, she would be the tonic that the Senate GOP needs.

Joe Miller wasn’t at his finest during the after hours of his election loss. How he has conducted himself since his electoral loss would be of strong interest to me and others looking for principled conservatism and civil activism when not in positions of power.

My two cents. Your mileage may vary.

bluefox on July 9, 2013 at 9:42 PM

And didn’t the State Supreme Court change the rules on write in votes?

bluefox on July 9, 2013 at 9:23 PM

Yes ma’am, they did. Forgot all about that. Instead of Lisa Murkowski, you could just make an “M” and that would work. Or if you were a tard, a scribble.

arnold ziffel on July 9, 2013 at 9:44 PM

Yes, that worked out so well for Michele Bachmann. SARC.
