State Department: Yeah, despite our denial, Kerry was on his yacht during Egypt upheaval

posted at 8:31 pm on July 5, 2013 by Mary Katharine Ham

Let’s go through the timeline on this, just so we have a solid understanding of how easily the State Department issues false statements to cover for its leadership and happily allows the smearing of others who report the truth, even on something as seemingly trivial and easily defused as the report that Sec. of State John Kerry was on his yacht Wednesday as Egypt’s revolution unfolded.

Wednesday, one of a pair of CBS producers caught sight of Kerry on his yacht, the Isabel, in Nantucket and the other, Mosheh Oinounou, reported it on his Twitter account:

The second of those two tweets went understandably viral, at which point, the State Department could have issued a statement saying, “The Secretary of State is in Nantucket but is actively engaged in diplomatic blah, blah, blah.” But that’s not what they did. Instead, they unequivocally denied the report:

But the State Department said Kerry was not aboard a boat on Wednesday and has spent the day working the phones on Egypt. “Since his plane touched down in Washington at 4 a.m., Secretary Kerry was working all day and on the phone dealing with the crisis in Egypt,” spokeswoman Jen Psaki said. “He participated in the White House meeting with the president by secure phone and was and is in non-stop contact with foreign leaders, and his senior team in Washington and Cairo. Any report or tweet that he was on a boat is completely inaccurate.”

That’s Jen Psaki, formerly of the Obama campaign, if the elegant ease of her B.S. syntax rings a bell for you. In the face of conflicting reports and photographic evidence from other Nantucket denizens that Kerry was indeed in Nantucket and his boat was on the water, State finally admitted to CBS that Kerry was “briefly” on his boat Wednesday.

As regime change was unfolding in Egypt, Secretary of State John Kerry spent time on his boat Wednesday afternoon in Nantucket Sound, the State Department acknowledged to CBS News on Friday, after repeatedly denying that Kerry was aboard any boat.

“While he was briefly on his boat on Wednesday, Secretary Kerry worked around the clock all day including participating in the President’s meeting with his national security council,” said State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki, naming a series of Egyptian and international officials Kerry had spoken with on Wednesday.

Psaki’s acknowledgment marked a stark reversal from previous denials that Kerry was on any boat whatsoever.

A “CBS This Morning” producer spotted Kerry on his boat Wednesday afternoon on Nantucket, where Kerry has a vacation home. When “CBS This Morning” senior producer Mosheh Oinounou tweeted about the sighting, Psaki issued a denial, calling the tweet “completely inaccurate” and said Kerry has been “working all day and on the phone dealing with the crisis in Egypt.”

Hey, our bad for calling you a liar in public, Mr. Oinounou, but we’re just gonna ignore that we did that. There’s a picture at the link, for good measure, and Oinounou tweeted one, too.

But no worries, ABC’s got Kerry’s back. And, Kerry’s back on the boat today.

And, now for some fun with someone who doesn’t need to be putting out fires in Egypt, and is free to grill it up over July 4th.

Remy’s always worth watching, and especially on a holiday weekend. Today, we continue to celebrate the signing of the document that established ours as a country in which the government can’t be all up in your grill. Except, you know, when it comes to the size of our sodas, the emissions of our gas grills, the temperature of our burgers, and the moldiness of our cheese. Overzealous food regulation, as you may have noticed, is a hot button for me. Here, Remy offers me a delightful outlet for my anger at the nanny state. Burgers for everyone, and make ‘em rare! Bonus points for the Ted Kennedy reference:

I only consume catsup in Bloody Marys.
Survival:
Bottle of Heinz catsup.
Large can of Sacramento tomato juice.
Small can of clam juice.
The best horseradish you can find. use lots
3 lemons
fresh ground pepper
1/4 cup real Worcestershire sauce
Absolutely no hot sauce.
Put this into a gallon jug. Shake. Be as liberal with the vodka as you please.

Excellent, but add a small bottle of “Doctor Tillitsuits”, a must flavoring for any Bloody Mary.

Of course, the LATimes calls it a “high-powered rifle” in the first paragraph, and three paragraphs further on IDs it as a “WASR”, which is a semi-auto AK clone made in Egypt.

Hardly “high-powered”; a lever-action in .357 Magnum can match its energy with several factory loads rated for revolvers, among other things.

But using all the Josh Sugarmann-approved “buzzwords” allows them to avoid talking about The One’s version of Iran-Contra, which in his case is aimed at the government of a country that, last time I looked, wasn’t run by a junta determined to have a Communist-inspired “Revolution Without Borders” from Tierra del Fuego to the Texas panhandle.

As I recall, that time around, LAT referred to what Reagan’s crew did as an “act of war”.

Frequently.

Sherman1864 on July 6, 2013 at 8:09 AM

Must I Repeat? Quit Making Things Up!

Outrageous. Once again the cover-up is worse than the “crime.” Secretary of State John Kerry WAS on his boat while Egypt fell into turmoil resulting in an overthrow of its new government ruled by the Muslim Brotherhood that the Obama Administration had so recently supported and may still support. (That, however, we do not know because President Obama’s absolutely dithering foreign policies, his “leading from behind,” and his benign statements on the Muslim Brotherhood make no sense to sensible people.)

The State Department categorically denied Kerry was on his boat. Yet CBS had pictures to prove it. Goodness. There is no need to lie, even on such a “little” thing as the location of a government leader during a military confrontation happening in real time. (Benghazi? Ring a bell? There still isn’t anyone in the media who’ll find out where our Commander-in-Chief was that night.) Come on, Obama Administration! It’s no big darn deal that Kerry was on his boat! We expect, and deserve, to assume that our highest ranking public servants to whom We the People have given the most responsibility are always working – even when they’re clearing their heads and breathing in some fresh air on a yacht, or sweating away stress on a basketball court, or yukking it up with pals on the fairway… let’s trust they’re always preparing for the proverbial 3:00 AM phone call.

Being on his boat isn’t the issue. Blatantly deceiving the American people is the issue.

Our government, yet again, either had no idea where the boss was, or worse yet, they lied to us. (Oops-a-daisy. Correction. In Obamaspeak, we were told the “least untruthful statement.”) Our government directed its swift-ly boat changing denials to what one can only surmise is their perception of who we are: a nation of sheep – heads down, grazing away, gullible, ignorant, and undeserving of truth.

Confronted with photographic evidence, the State Department merely tossed the public a handful of hay today in its tepid effort to kinda-sorta explain the whole thing away. Something about, well, yeah, so the evidence contradicted all their public claims, but… eh, no harm, no foul. And like good herder dogs, with calm authority to avoid commotion, the bureaucrats barked the suggestion that we all just move along now.

No. You move along, little doggie. Enough is enough. It’s unacceptable. Remember, the nation’s Mama Grizzlies don’t just rise up to swat away threats to protect the next generation. They also school, scold, and signal to teach a lesson. One lesson taught all children is if you lie on the little things, you’ll lie on the big things.

George Orwell wrote of a time when citizens could no longer trust big government, and by wearing down the citizenry through doublespeak and lies a tired country finally retreated to its dark and depressing demise.

America, we shall not go there! Why? Because if we know from our nation’s forefathers that weariness is not in our blood! It’s not in our DNA to retreat. Have faith that there are enough patriots in our exceptional nation willing to fight together for what is right. Proof of this is all the families still encouraging and supporting their loved ones who choose U.S. military service. And proof of a unified commitment to defend our republic is what the independent tea party movement is all about. Disregard the constant criticism, mocking, and flagrant lies about this diverse, proud movement that still spew from big government cheerleaders and their lapdogs in the media. Despite harassment and intimidation, commonsense conservatives are rising up again to get a better view of what is ahead. They are identifying threats to our Constitution and our children’s future. The permanent political class angrily bemoans this because they know our diverse working class – those who make the world go ’round – can shake off the slumber, unify, and effectively encourage others to come out of a 2012 hibernation and demand accountability at the 2014 ballot box. It’s there we prove the average, everyday American’s ferocious strength when exercising that beautiful belief in loyalty only to a government of the people, by the people, for the people. Until then, we mustn’t have the fighting instinct of sheep. Pay attention, do your own homework on candidates and political machines, turn off media that would disrespect you by continuing to deceive, and keep the faith.

While celebrating America’s glorious Independence this week, be secure in knowing that there are more of us who support men and women ready and willing to fight on our behalf for freedom and truth than those who would continually deceive us. Thank God. And thank a Vet.

State Department: say you’re sorry and don’t ever do this again. CBS News: thank you for doing your job on this issue.

Happy 4th of July weekend, America.

- Sarah Palin

It’s not about him being on a “working vacation” It’s about the State DEP LYING about it. If they lie about something so easy to check, whatelse are they lying about. Or are they ever telling the truth.? For a represenative republic to function the people must be able to trust their government. Governments are required to lie at times for geopolitical reasons and the people understand that. However when the government starts to lie about every day actions to “avoid” negative politcal fallout or disgust by the people. that government will quiickly become illegitamte in the eyes of the people who elected it. Once that happens you get things like coups and revol!s.

It seems that the Obama Admin is following a pre-recorded message, so to speak. Like they write (or “have written”) a variety of scripts post-dated which they they then “publish” on respective dates.

Like blogging with prepared posts written days, weeks, prior to pubdates, published on those dates that were post-dated in the original.

Yes, they lie. But it sure does seem like it’s even worse than lying, if that can be considered: they’re so out of touch and contact with reality that they’re following their pre-prepared material.

Reuters reported:

Gunmen shot dead a Coptic Christian priest in Egypt’s lawless Northern Sinai on Saturday in what could be the first sectarian attack since the military overthrow of Islamist President Mohamed Mursi, security sources said.

The priest, Mina Aboud Sharween, was attacked in the early afternoon while walking in the Masaeed area in El Arish.

The shooting in the coastal city was one of several attacks believed to be by Islamist insurgents that included firing at four military checkpoints in the region, the sources said.

Saturday’s attacks on checkpoints took place in al-Mahajer and al-Safaa in Rafah, as well as Sheikh Zuwaid and al-Kharouba.

This is pretty awful when you have a government that rather lie, even when it doesn’t make any difference, and a press that is probably sorry when they catch them at it. All you folks trying to convince everyone that the NSA is only doing the legal and least intrusive steps to keep our country safe just took a hit in your argument.

Cindy Munford on July 6, 2013 at 10:03 AM

Lurch was in international waters so just like most of Chappy Kennedy’s lawlessness, molestation, whoring and debauchery it doesn’t count.

You have to have a lot of someone else’s money to carry off those shorts.

Cindy Munford on July 6, 2013 at 10:17 AM

Once again this administration shows that it is as easy to lie to the citizens of the US as it is to tell the truth. No one cared that Kerry was on his boat. Obama, for God’s sake, was on an African vacation with half of DC and no one complained. But no, the state department had to lie first and then when caught finally tell the truth. Is there any wonder that NO ONE believes their rendition of Benghazi?

I think we have moved past easy and gone straight to preferable.

Cindy Munford on July 6, 2013 at 10:44 AM

We could have just kept King George and gotten this kind of dog to lord over us. Do people in Massachusetts doff their hats when he goes by.

claudius on July 6, 2013 at 10:53 AM

So Kerry voted to be on the boat before he voted against being on the boat?

Or do I have that reversed?

CJ on July 6, 2013 at 12:18 PM

Hey, this is John Kerry we’re talking about. I’d much rather have him on his boat than doing his job.

Undine on July 6, 2013 at 12:24 PM

If our government will lie to us about something so meaningless just think what they would do to cover for the big stuff…

d1carter on July 6, 2013 at 12:51 PM

And that huge NSA Utah data storage facility is for our own good…

d1carter on July 6, 2013 at 12:55 PM

Being on his boat isn’t the issue. Blatantly deceiving the American people is the issue.

Our government, yet again, either had no idea where the boss was, or worse yet, they lied to us. — Sarah Palin

McCain urges US to suspend Egypt military aid

US Republican Senator John McCain has called on the US government to suspend financial aid to the Egyptian army, following a military coup that overthrew the elected president Mohamed Morsi.

“We have to suspend aid to Egyptian military because the military has overturned the vote of the people,” McCain, who is also a member of the Senate’s Foreign Relations Committee, said on Friday.

“We cannot repeat the same mistakes that we made in other times of our history by supporting removal of freely elected governments.”

IOW, McCain would have called for a suspension of military aid to Nazi Germany if the colonels had succeeded in removing Hitler and his cohorts from power.

Like Obama, McCain always winds up on the wrong side of history.

This Obama spokesperson Jen Psaki has ALWAYS struck me as a smug, arrogant, deceitful, untrustworthy liar. Just watch her speak, it is obvious she is a jerk and a huge liar.

Award-winning comment over at Power Line:

“Nixon ordered me to Nantucket for the holiday. It’s seared into my memory. Seared!”

A+

Del Dolemonte on July 6, 2013 at 1:44 PM

Kerry wasn’t just on a boat with no modern communications ability, but, like his boss during Benghazi, was probably “asleep” at the critical time. When you are “asleep”, nobody can ask “what did you know and when did you know it?” Rubbing his eyes, Kerry was as surprised as anyone about Egypt!

But the truth is the administration has no power over recent events in Egypt (outside of their inexplicable support of radical Islam, which a vocal minority of a mere 22 million Egyptians just rejected).

These Egyptian trouble-makers have been on the internet and now believe they have the same rights as Western devils (infidel monkeys, apes and pigs!). The middle east and the whole of Africa will only be returned to its pristine state if the people go back to the time of Mohammed, a time of grinding poverty, endless strife, tribalism, famine, slavery and submission to Allah (praised be his name) and his holy men (blessings on their beards).

Kerry will put out a strongly-worded memo just as soon as he wakes up and gets back to his office.

Bonus points for the Ted Kennedy reference:

Oh please! MKH, I luv ya, but there should be no bonus points for irrelevant, gratuitous comments. This is where conservatives/libertarians fail – turning off anyone who might actually be interested in, say, the excesses of big government/government regulation but who might harbor affection for Kennedy. This is not a defense of his disastrous legacy by any means but it’s time to give this angle a rest, stop dancing on his grave, and stay on topic. If not for that one stupid line I could share this with liberal friends, now its audience is going to be restricted mostly to members of the choir.

Sharween wasn’t just a Coptic priest, he was the Coptic pope of Egypt. Has Bush called Islam the religion of peace lately?

Kissmygrits on July 6, 2013 at 5:41 PM

What is wrong with the truth once in a while from this Obama Administration? Have to run the clock out as impeachment (that is needed) would only harm our nation. Big mistake, America, twice.

Amazingoly on July 6, 2013 at 5:50 PM

And Nixon only had 18.5 missing minutes:
9/11/2012 – Obama and Hillary are missing all night.
4/3/2013 – Kerry missing all day, I don’t remember where Obama was – what does it matter now anyway.

Pope Tawadros II is the current Coptic Pope.

To each their own.
I personally do not like them. We do not ride mares at all. They always act like b!tches.
We used to raise our own colts but it’s not worth it.
I like to ride something with it’s nuts cut off.
Geldings are sweet. And they don’t get b!tchy like a mare (unless you get them fixed before they ever cycle for the 1st time).

A recurring theme: Neither are Obama’s campaign buses because American Luxury Buses are made in States that don’t adore, or more importantly, vote, for him.

claudius on July 7, 2013 at 12:20 PM

His yacht was a great place for him to be. Otherwise he might have been in the middle east mucking up things worse.

duff65 on July 7, 2013 at 2:01 PM

And yet, the first thought when this story broke that he was on a yacht instead of heading back to the State Dept. was, “Well, that figures.”

Incompetence of epic proportions. I just sort of expect it now. I’m sort of numb at this point which sadly is probably what they want so we don’t do anything about it. And then part of me wonders if the nation deserves it considering the election outcome.

Yakko77 on July 7, 2013 at 4:48 PM

Wait-a-minute – the same Psaki who denies the burglaries in the other State Dept. related story on the front page?

Hmmmmm . . . . .
