Video: Speaker finds Obama’s climate proposal “absolutely crazy”

posted at 8:31 am on June 22, 2013 by Jazz Shaw

Granted, it’s not often that John Boehner has much in the way of nice things to say about the President, but he doesn’t always get quite this direct about it. What might have prompted this?

News broke this week the Obama administration is considering aggressive regulations of power plants and carbon dioxide emissions. Boehner castigated the idea as a job-killer.

“I think this is absolutely crazy,” he said. “Why would you want to increase the cost of energy and kill more American jobs at a time when the American people are still asking the question, ‘Where are the jobs?’

“Clear enough?” he added to his questioner.

This came about after the Speaker was asked about a rather unpopular speech given by Obama during his recent trip abroad. In an apparent attempt to salve the wounds of those among his base who don’t hate him by now, the President tossed out a few hints about his upcoming environmental plans.

“There are only a few substantive, meaningful actions the administration can take short of dealing with existing power plants,” said S. William Becker, executive director of the National Assn. of Clean Air Agencies, a group of local and state air pollution regulators. “So I’d be extremely surprised if existing power plants weren’t one of the top priorities the administration is pursuing.”

The White House declined to comment on the deliberations, instead citing President Obama’s past comments on climate change. The Edison Electric Institute, the power industry’s trade group, also declined to comment.

Still, Heather Zichal, White House deputy assistant for energy and climate change, said at an environmental conference in Washington last week that “in the coming weeks and months, you can expect to hear more from the president on this issue.”

In some ways, this is actually a refreshing development. Without the fear of another election hanging over his head, Barack Obama is free to cut loose and let us know what some of his plans really include. (And even if they’re unpopular, they might distract some people from the recent scandals.) It’s coming at a curious time, given that Congress is currently looking at finally getting rid of the bio-fuels, ethanol mandate which has been little more than a disaster. At the same time, a lower court has already thrown out the EPA’s cross state emissions rules and the Supreme Court is currently deciding whether or not to even hear an appeal on the point.

There’s a lot the administration would like to do in terms of mandating industry activity in these areas, and it would please the environmentalist Left base greatly. But there are limits on even Presidential power when it comes to these aggressive actions, as Obama is now learning. As the Speaker points out, more Americans are still asking, “where are the jobs?” than are interested in measuring parts per million of carbon compounds in the air. Is this the dawning of a backlash of common sense?

Here is a suggestion: DEFUND THE EPA!!!!

ctmom on June 22, 2013 at 8:37 AM

I’m off topic here, and for that I apologize, Jazz. I ask for leeway.

Y’all: I urge a campaign of intense social media pressure from all conservatives who understand what “social media” means. If you are on Facebook, Twitter, Linked In, or commenting anywhere, I urge to you mock Marco Rubio and his retarded RINO friends with a constant barrage of quotes from … Marco Rubio. To wit:

“If you grant amnesty, the message that you’re sending is that if you come in this country and stay here long enough, we will let you stay. And no one will ever come through the legal process if you do that.”

There are many more, and they’re all here.

Jaibones on June 22, 2013 at 8:40 AM

Yet somehow it will pass. God Help us.

I admire our president.

Having so much power while lacking compassion, business ability or even common sense allows him to have the kind of ego maintenance and fun most of us have not experienced since age 12!

Most of us have been short of cash and pity the poor.

Maybe we burned ourselves on a stove or with chemicals and shudder at the melted warriors on those wounded warrior commercials or flip out about a lefty film like I was forced to watched on how drones kill.

People made fun of our looks so we would rip out our own entrails before making fun of the looks of the woman who is helping us showg the world a stable, successful black family.

He ignores Donald Trump when the Donald tries to explain that the object with enemies is to get THEM to leak more red than you do. (Red meaning blood and red ink on conflict spending).

Have fun, guy!

With such a stern rebuttal, I suspect the GOP will only fund his efforts at a 90% rate.

hillsoftx on June 22, 2013 at 9:22 AM

William Becker, executive director of the National Assn. of Clean Air Agencies, a group of local and state air pollution regulators. “So I’d be extremely surprised if existing power plants weren’t one of the top priorities the administration is pursuing.”

Right. Like stop “ox-walking” permits for new nuclear plants?

Or stop dismantling hydroelectric dams to “make rivers wild again”?

Or, I know, stop throwing roadblocks up against LNG drilling and fractionating.

But of course, all those would increase, or at least stabilize, the energy supply. Which would not please the deep-ecos, who dream of us all “living gently on the land”, and using no energy at all in our mud huts. While their castles are warm and toasty. (How they intend to accomplish that they haven’t figured out yet.)

The One is either a hardcore neo-Luddite, or totally ignorant of anything except what little he apparently learned in law school. The one means that he is too fanatically devoted to a radical agenda to be reasoned with. The other means that he is so detached from reality that there is no common ground on which he can even be spoken to with any expectation of his understanding the conversation.

Fanatical, or delusional. There is no other probable, or even rational, explanation for his behavior.

I call the odds six-five and pick ‘em.

70% of Americans are taking multiple prescription medications…Most for chronic physical medical conditions and mental conditions.

#1 prescription medication after those used to treat chronic medical conditions is Anti-depressants.

#2 Pain killers

That is how Americans are coping with Fascism in America.

oldroy on June 22, 2013 at 9:40 AM

But when apprised by Chris Christie, David Brooks, Michael Gerson, and several pollsters, that this sort of harsh, anti-Science, “Rejectionist” rhetoric did not play well with the Soccer-mom demographics and Independent voters, Speaker Boehner walked back his earlier statements, in a tearful address tot he Press.

Speaker Boehner explained that he and the Republicans loved Mother Earth and understood the need to protect and nurture her and that his conference would be introducing a “reasonable” set of statutory and regulatory responses to the Global Climate Crisis, that would only raise the average Americans electric bill by 15% rather than the POTUS’ plan to increase them by 35%. Also, there would be substantial subsidies for the poor and minorities to afford cheap home heating and light….Possibly a plan to expand the “ObamaPhone” Program, to utilities.

Speaker Boehner begged, tearfully, the Soccer-Mom’s and Independents to forgive his earlier harsh rhetoric and understand that it was because he had just come from a meeting with the so-called TEA Party Caucus and their racist and extreme opinions had unduly influenced him. He said that he hoped that he and Nancy Pelosi could see his proposed package thru Congress shortly, without or without the majority votes of his conference. In the Speaker’s words, “This is simply too important, to allow extreme partisan politics to derail.”

JFKY on June 22, 2013 at 9:46 AM

Boehner has a winning issue here. Energy independence, lower energy prices, more competitive manufacturing plants producing more jobs are all positive with the public. Obama’s fiat regulations that could never pass congress in the name of some “Earth” ethic that really only serves crony capitalism is not going to win votes that the progressive left doesn’t already have.

We’ve been asking for them to defund govt agency after govt agency, but it never happens. Guess we’ll have to do this the old fashioned way and vote them all out. Is the EPA going to issue everyone a blanket this winter if they close our coal power plants? Sound familiar?
