Video: Bill O’Reilly endorses immigration bill with Hoeven-Corker amendment

posted at 10:01 pm on June 20, 2013 by Mary Katharine Ham

From “The O’Reilly Factor” tonight, advocates of the bill are already touting it.

Bottom line: O’Reilly is on board with the idea of a need for immigration reform to fix the current system and buys that Hoeven-Corker gives the necessary security measures to make that reform effective. I’m in a similar boat in that I’m in favor of reform, in the abstract, but I’m unconvinced Hoeven-Corker or much else about this bill gives assurances that it will do much of what it advertises beyond mass legalization. The CBO report on the bill (pre Hoeven-Corker) admits it would only stop 25 percent of illegal immigration and would leave some 3.5 million illegal immigrants already here ineligible for legalization. I’m unclear on how this is a solution to the problems presented by the status quo if we end up with 11 million people “living in the shadows” again in 10 years. That sounds, well, just like the status quo.

Here’s Bill:

O’Reilly and Laura Ingraham then get into it over the bill. Enjoy!

He makes no sense at all. This totally relies on Democrats holding up their end of the bargain and when has that ever happened? We don’t have the money for more border agents. The Obama’s have to go to Martha’s Vineyard in August.

At what point does compromise become a suicide pact, Bill?

If the Dems refuse to honor previous commitments and promises why would you expect them to do so now.

Bah, a guy who yells over himself while talking to the mirror gets none of my time.

I’m noticing a trend here: Rich, safe, protected douchebags seem plenty ready to embrace this abomination of a law, the working man not so much. If pompous, talking-head, blowhard aszbags were flooding over the border from Mexico, Billy Boy would be screaming his skull off about it.

O’Reilly is a douchebag RINO and irrelevant.

Last night, to my astonishment, Hannity found the nuts to host Michelle “The Fierce” Malkin, who proceeded to Laugh Out Loud at the notion of supporting this POS Amnesty Joke if only the Republocrats were to feign interest in border security.

Clarity is much more important than agreement, and the Divine Mrs. M provided clarity in spades. Let me paraphrase: This amnesty bill is a clownish charade, and anyone who supports it on the merits of promises for border security by the likes of Dickless Dick Durbin and Chuckie Scummer is a liar or an idiot.

Rubio would seem to be torn between which career-strangling definition he wishes for himself. I’m going with liar.

GarandFan on June 20, 2013 at 10:36 PM

That was one of O’Reilly’s weakest bits of analysis yet.

rdbrewer on June 20, 2013 at 10:12 PM

It wasn’t even analysis. It was just the same BS talking points we’ve heard from idiots like Lindsey Grahamnesty. “The GOP has to do this or else they’ll lose the Hispanic vote.”

Newsflash, Bill. They’ve always lost the Hispanic vote. Even after the last time they passed amnesty. In fact, they dropped 7 points among Hispanics in the election immediately following Reagan signing that bill. Yet somehow in that timeframe, they still managed to win the Presidency in 1988, 2000, and 2004. And they were able to take the House and Senate in 1994 and hold onto them for 12 years(save the short period after Jim Jeffords stabbed the GOP in the back). And after the drubbing they took in 2006, they won back the House a mere 4 years later.

The GOP doesn’t need to dominate with Hispanic voters to win national elections. They don’t even need to tie the Dems or win 40%. The key in all of those aforementioned victories was turning out their base and doing respectably among indie voters. Which is something they’ll have a very hard time doing ever again if they ram through this amnesty bill.

StubbleSpark on June 20, 2013 at 10:40 PM

I speculated the other day that at least part of the reason so many of them are trying to ram this through is that they can’t get anything else done. They haven’t gotten a budget passed in the Senate in 4 1/2 years, and that ain’t about to change. Repealing Obamacare won’t even get a vote in the Senate much less pass. Reforming entitlements? Please. A jobs bill? No chance. And they already tried gun control and had that fail miserably.

What else can this Congress possibly get done with each party controlling one chamber and Obama completely AWOL when it comes to any semblance of leadership? Sadly I fear some Republicans are more than willing to sell out their base on amnesty just so they can tell the electorate next year that they weren’t a do-nothing Congress.

jawkneemusic on June 20, 2013 at 10:51 PM

This was posted by Speakup in January. It should be sent to every Representative and Senator, just change the name.

Dear Senator Frist:
There is a huge amount of propaganda and myths circulating about illegal aliens, particularly illegal Mexican, Salvadorian, Guatemalan and Honduran aliens.
1. Illegal aliens generally do NOT want U.S. citizenship. Americans are very vain thinking that everybody in the world wants to be a U.S. citizen. Mexicans, and other nationalities want to remain citizens of their home countries while obtaining the benefits offered by the Unit ed States such as employment, medical care, in-state tuition, government subsidized housing and free education for their offspring. Their main attraction is employment and their loyalty usually remains at home. They want benefits earned and subsidized by middle class Americans. What illegal aliens want are benefits of American residence without paying the price.
2. There are no jobs that Americans won’t do. Illegal aliens are doing jobs that Americans can’t take and still support their families. Illegal aliens take low wage jobs, live dozens in a single residence home, share expenses and send money to their home country. There are no jobs that Americans won’t do for a decent wage.
3. Every person who illegally entered this nation left a home. They are NOT homeless and they are NOT Americans. Some left jobs in their home countries. They come to send money to their real home as evidenced by the more than 20 billion dollars sent out of the country each year by illegal aliens. These illegal aliens knowingly and willfully entered this nation in violation of the law and therefore assumed the risk of detection and deportation. Those who brought their alien children assumed the responsibility and risk on behalf of their children.
4. Illegal aliens are NOT critical to the economy. Illegal aliens constitute less than 5% of the workforce. However, they reduce wages and benefits for lawful U.S. residents.
5. This is NOT an immigrant nation. There are 280 million native born Americans. While it is true that this nation was settled and founded by immigrants (legal immigrants), it is also true that there is not a nation on this planet that was not settled by immigrants at one time or another.
6. The United States is welcoming to legal immigrants. Illegal aliens are not immigrants by definition. The U.S. accepts more lawful immigrants every year than the rest of the world combined.
7. There is no such thing as the “Hispanic vote”. Hispanics are white, brown, black and every shade in between. Hispanics are Republicans, Democrats, Anarchists, Communists, Marxists and Independents. The so-called “Hispanic vote” is a myth. Pandering to illegal aliens to get the Hispanic vote is a dead end.
8. Mexico is NOT a friend of the United States. Since 1848 Mexicans have resented the United States. During World War I Mexico allowed German Spies to operate freely in Mexico to spy on the U.S. During World War II Mexico allowed the Axis powers to spy on the U.S. from Mexico. During the Cold War Mexico allowed spies hostile to the U.S. to operate freely. The attack on the Twin Towers in 2001 was cheered and applauded all across Mexico. Today Mexican school children are taught that the U.S. stole California, Arizona, new Mexico and Texas. If you don’t believe it, check out some Mexican textbooks written for their schoolchildren.
9. Although some illegal aliens enter this country for a better life, there are 6 billion people on this planet. At least 1 billion of those live on less than one dollar a day. If wanting a better life is a valid excuse to break the law and sneak into America, then let’s allow those one billion to come to America and we’ll turn the USA into a Third World nation overnight. Besides, there are 280 million native born Americans who want a better life. I’ll bet Bill Gates and Donald Trump want a better life. When will the USA lifeboat be full? Since when is wanting a better life a good reason to trash another nation?
10. There is a labor shortage in this country. This is a lie. There are hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of American housewives, senior citizens, students, unemployed and underemployed who would gladly take jobs at a decent wage.
11. It is racist to want secure borders. What is racist about wanting secure borders and a secure America? What is racist about not wanting people to sneak into America and steal benefits we have set aside for legal aliens, senior citizens, children and other legal residents? What is it about race that entitles people to violate our laws, steal identities, and take the American Dream without paying the price?
For about four decades American politicians have refused to secure our borders and look after the welfare of middle class Americans. These politicians have been of both parties. A huge debt to American society has resulted. This debt will be satisfied and the interest will be high. There has already been riots in the streets by illegal aliens and their supporters. There will be more. You, as a politician, have a choice to offend the illegal aliens who have stolen into this country and demanded the rights afforded to U.S. citizens or to offend those of us who are stakeholders in this country. The interest will be steep either way. There will be civil unrest. There will be a reckoning. Do you have the courage to do what is right for America? Or, will you bow to the wants and needs of those who don’t even have the right to remain here?
There will be a reckoning. It will come in November of this year, again in 2008 and yet again in 2010.
We will not allow America to be stolen by third world agitators and thieves.

Food for thought Billo:

“The safety of a republic depends essentially on the energy of a common national sentiment; on a uniformity of principles and habits; on the exemption of the citizens from foreign bias and prejudice; and on that love of country which will almost invariably be found to be closely connected with birth, education, and family. The opinion advanced in the Notes on Virginia [by Thomas Jefferson] is undoubtedly correct, that foreigners will generally be apt to bring with them attachments to the persons they have left behind; to the country of their nativity; and to its particular customs and manners. They will also entertain opinions on government congenial with those under which they have lived; or if they should be led hither from a preference to ours, how extremely unlikely is it that they will bring with them that temperate love of liberty, so essential to real republicanism?”

Listening to her radio show today, I believe I heard her say she’s filling in for BOR starting tomorrow thru next Friday. I hope she hammers this subject on TV as much as she hammers it on radio.

Great news! Thank you for the update, SheVee!

More Laura Ingraham = Less Bill O’Reilly

wren on June 21, 2013 at 12:18 AM

My short-take on this: If Ingraham is against it and O’Reilly is for it, Ingraham has read it and O’Reilly hasn’t.

bflat879 on June 21, 2013 at 12:19 AM

Ted Baxter is as teleprompter dependent as Barky.

No telling who has ghostwritten his books…

viking01 on June 21, 2013 at 12:25 AM

Mary Katherine Ham, you’re in favor of amnesty, in the abstract??
Darksean on June 20, 2013 at 10:09 PM

Extremely disappointing.

bluegill on June 21, 2013 at 12:32 AM

Easy to do that while living in NYC, Chump. TRy getting out in the rest of the country!

do these people even listen to themselves?: http://www.lifenews.com/2013/06/20/chelsea-clinton-laments-my-grandmother-did-not-have-access-to-planned-parenthood/

I’m sure that there is some deeper meaning to that comment. You and I are unable to understand the intellect of the educated offspring of the liberal, privileged class.

Vince on June 21, 2013 at 12:03 AM

LOL

I think I may literally vomit if she ever gets elected to anything.

Dr. ZhivBlago on June 21, 2013 at 12:58 AM

Let’s bring O’Reilly down.Do not watch his show,do not buy his books.

redware on June 21, 2013 at 1:06 AM

Okay, ya’ll, here’s your quick smell test:

I’m in a similar boat in that I’m in favor of reform, in the abstract,

Abstract of WHAT? Like removing CARBON from the Periodic Table?

Just Sayin’, ya know, absractivenessly.

GreatCommunicator on June 21, 2013 at 1:22 AM

<a href="”>Does Wolf Blitzer have a place here? Or Harry Reid? Or Nancy Pelosi? Brian Williams? There are many who might drive society to this bad place – but, in doing so – result in accountability for their irresponsibility.

williamg on June 21, 2013 at 1:25 AM

Bill, the guy who years ago got into a screaming match with Geraldo about illegals killing innocent people through reckless behavior, endorsing a crap bill which provides no security improvement? Yeah, that guy turned into everything he railed against years ago.

Hispanics are not going to vote for Republicans because of amnesty–especially with the perception that Republicans were reluctantly “forced” to do so with their feet being held to the fire. Not a single vote will be gained by a disgusting Republican cave in. Hispanics will start voting Republican when they see the job opportunities that Republicans can create through free enterprise not socialism.

But if amnesty goes through ,Hispanics may never get the opportunity to see meaningful job recovery-because the United States is poised to become a one-party country. Of course we can blame traitors, psychotics and self-anointed Adonis’s Such as Rubio, McCain and O’Reilly-sound like morticians–but the real blame for the Republican melt down lies at the feet of Reince Priebus (Republican Committee Chairman and ex-Florida governor Jeb Bush. These are the ones who have sold the Party on the potion of death called “moderation”. This theory ascribes to the false notion that if the Democrats do something dastardly or even illegal to get elected , the Republicans are OK with this as long as it is just a little bit less dastardly or illegal. The same would apply to spending–we’ll spend like drunken sailors but not as much as the Democrats. The choice is between a fast death or a slightly slower one.

With this theory, it doesn’t matter who wins the election because, in software terms republicans are the light, trial version of the Democrats.

MaiDee on June 21, 2013 at 1:44 AM

If BO, Rubio, McCain and other Republican representatives truly believe that the GOP will never win another national election unless it advocates for, and rewards lawbreakers, then they have already declared the party effectively dead. If the Republican party must relinquish adherence to moral and ethical principles in order to attempt to remain a viable political voice, then amnesty has become an attempt to resuscitate a corpse. If the Republican party can no longer stand by the Rule of Law of the United States of America in order to remain a competitive political force, then it should not be revived. The GOP has turned away from it’s duty to the American people and their nation.
Let the party die with it’s honor intact.

lynncgb on June 21, 2013 at 1:45 AM

O’Reilly was for the last “Immigration Reform” farce that was soundly crushed by the American people.

He’s a damned fool, redux.

There is no need to do anything but enforce the existing laws.

If the political Scum Class will not do that, they are not to be trusted to do anything new now.

But Destroy America First.

profitsbeard on June 21, 2013 at 1:49 AM

It was pretty obvious he actually knows nothing about the Bill. He is pretty pretentious and more than ignorant.

It that simple… and it’s that obvious. Dark days in America.

The Border Patrol’s own stats show no effect at all from more agents on the border. Not in apprehensions, not in returns. So the 20,000 agents is just expanding an already-bloated federal workforce forever for no benefit.

Check out the crimes that you or I would be at jeopardy for committing that the prospective “citizens” get waived over at Power Line. The amendment is a bad joke.

ALL it does is give cover to those Senators who wanted to support the bill but knew their constituents weren’t buying. Now they can claim it has “enforcement” – if the people are dumb enough to believe it.

Adjoran on June 21, 2013 at 3:47 AM

For those of calling O’Reilly a RINO, know this! O’Reilly is a registered Independent, he does not belong to the GOP! Hence the New Yorker article he alluded to is pure rubbish too! O’Reilly is a pompous, arrogant elitist who thinks he knows everything, bottom line: he’s a jerk! Ingraham is correct. This bill goes nowhere in the House. Why would anyone in their right mind trust the Democrats & the current administration with anything like this? They have already shown that they will only enforce laws that they agree with. This whole thing is a show for the GOP to gain Hispanic support. Ain’t gonna happen. If the GOP doesn’t start showing an ability & willingness to govern it may very well become part of history.
