Good news: List of gun victims used by Bloomberg anti-gun group also included Christopher Dorner, other murder suspects

posted at 8:01 pm on June 20, 2013 by Allahpundit

Is it fair to rub their faces in a terrible mistake when they’ve already apologized?

Probably not, no. But let’s do it anyway.

At a demonstration Tuesday in Concord, New Hampshire organized by Michael Bloomberg’s advocacy group Mayors Against Illegal Guns, participants tried to rally support for gun control by spending several hours reading aloud from a list of gun violence victims who have been killed since the Newtown shooting.

But the list from which the activists were reading — which was compiled by Slate and includes more than 6,000 names — contained at least 10 murder suspects, including the alleged cop killer Christopher Dorner, who was the subject of a massive, high-profile manhunt in February, and apparently killed himself in a cabin after a gun fight with police.

Follow the last link for a possibly-complete-possibly-not list of murderers who somehow ended up on the victim side of the ledger being kept by gun-control activists. Here’s the list at Slate featuring Dorner, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, and other accused killers which Bloomberg’s group used two days ago in New Hampshire. Why would a list like that include them? Good question:

Dan Kois, an editor at Slate, explained to The Atlantic Wire why Tsarnaev was on their list — an intentional inclusion.

“The interactive is a tally of all the people who’ve been killed by guns since the Newtown shootings. So it doesn’t differentiate between good guys and bad guys. We were studiously attempting to be as clear as possible that this was not victims of gun crimes … it was everybody that’s been killed by guns since Newtown.”

Why would you keep a comprehensive list of people killed in shootings after Newtown if you’re not interested in building sympathy for them as victims? The point of the list is, or should be, to drive home the tragedy of so many innocent lives taken. If you’re going to toss non-innocents like Tsarnaev, Dorner, et al. in there, you might as well ask the Pentagon for an estimate of Al Qaeda fighters shot on the battlefield in Iraq and Afghanistan and toss them in too. They’re all casualties of the demon device known as firearms, aren’t they? Come to think of it, didn’t Hitler shoot himself?

It’s an … interesting political project that has room for Tamerlan Tsarnaev on its roll call of the fallen but not the people he murdered because of a difference in the precise means of lethal force used. Anyway, two obvious questions. One: Did none of the imbeciles who organized the anti-gun rally in New Hampshire recognize Tsarnaev’s name before they read it aloud? These people watch the news sometimes, right? Two: If you want to make a political point about easy access to guns that involves degenerates like Tsarnaev and Chris Dorner, isn’t there a really obvious way to do it without adding them to a list of innocents?

There was no mistake. Anti-Second Amendment types have done this for years. The only thing they’re sorry about is they tried sneaking it in under the radar and got caught.

coldwarrior on June 20, 2013 at 8:10 PM

Plenty I’m sure. As Slate said they compiled a list of people who died from gunshot wounds. Of course criminals getting what they deserve are on the list. All they want is a big fat number to try and make a point. Everything else is a “distraction”.

NotCoach on June 20, 2013 at 8:14 PM

Of course, their lists are always inaccurate. It’s too hard to keep them updated due to Chicago alone.

If we’re just gonna throw lists together all willy nilly without any context or sense I’ve got a list for these losers. From the years 1861 to 1865 over 203,000 Americans died from bullet wounds, stabbings and cannon fire. I think we’ve improved considerably since then and we should not be pissing and moaning over less than 10k firearm deaths a year.

WRONG! It is more than fair to rub their faces in it. It’s imperative. They did this on purpose. They lie as a matter of policy. They were perfectly happy – and aware of the fact – that they were including despicable falsehoods in their deranged narrative. This is what the left does. It IS their M.O. They are despicable, lying scumbags – the whole lot of them. They are rank liars and weasels.

They need more than their faces rubbed in their lies. They need to be punished appropriately for being despicable, lying scumbags. Any sane society would relegate such lowlifes to the edges of society and never take anything they say seriously. Any sane society … Of course, this society has a dog-eating, America-hating, 84 IQ, ineligible imbecile serving his second illegitimate term running our country into the ground. This is not a sane society we live in. Because we have these scumbag leftists get away with these sorts of lies and distortions over and over.

No, No, No!!!! Dorner was a victim. There was a guy on HA at the time that was angry that the cops, after finding him following a days-long manhunt of Southern California, didn’t stand down and talk himout of that cabin. The theory was they needed to only leave a couple of guys in a tent near the cabin and just wait Dorner out instead of gunning him down like an animal.

I kid you not. And his vote counts as much as yours.

But since everyone in their echo chamber thought it was a good idea, it never occurred to them to ask the $64,000 Question every carny used to know,

But how will it play in Peoria?

That’s in Illinois, BTW. You know, Flyover Country.

Like the infamous “10:10 No Pressure” AGW ad, this is another example of an insular group so utterly convinced of their righteousness, and so totally disconnected from reality, that it never occurs to them to question something that everybody else views as somewhere between “merely” idiotic and so f**king stupid and callous that the perpetrators should be turned inside out without benefit of anesthesia.

“10:10″ did more to convince a lot of people just how dangerous and unstable the deep-ecos were than all the arson fires Earth First! ever set.

This foot-in-mouth should prove to everyone that the anti-gunners suffer from the same set of warped and twisted “values” as the “Rainbow Six” aka “Hug A Tree, Harpoon a Baby” crowd.

In fact, there’s probably a lot of crossover between the membership of the two “sets”. Think about it.

Liberals are such blivets (that’s 10lb of sh*t in a 5lb bag).

When a drunk driver kills someone, they blame the driver.

When a guy murders his long-abused girlfriend, they blame the abuser.

When a woman kills the knife-wielding criminal invader of her home, they blame the gun and count it as gun violence.

A few years ago, the anti-Second Amendment crowd were saying that a certain number of children were killed daily by guns.

The number sounded like BS.

Someone analyzed the data and it turns out that some of the “children” were 19 year old thugs killed in shootouts with the police.

Slate? Isn’t that part of the State Run Media? Don’t they proof, crosscheck, and edit their work? Sound like they are irresponsible as the bloggers.

Del Dolemonte on June 21, 2013 at 12:07 AM

More to the point, the U.s. ranks 34th on the list of countries’ per capita suicide rates (number of suicides per 100,000 population);

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_suicide_rate

Japan, with a near-absolute prohibition on guns, ranks 10th, with 21.7/per compared to 12 here.

The People’s Republic of China, where only the police and military are armed, and anyone else caught with anything like a gun generally is executed on general principles, ranks 7th with 22.23.

It’s pretty obvious that in those two countries, some other means than firearms must be in use.

Then there’s the United Kingdom, which likes to brag about their prohibition of firearms. Not only is violent crime exploding there, but their suicide rate is 11.8 per, almost a “dead heat” with the U.S. Obviously, Britons are using some other means for this.

Canada, also a country that preens over its “enlightened” gun restrictions, checks in at 11.5. Granted, I can think of a lot of ways to end up dead in Canada, especially in Northwest Territories. A large number of them involve not having a gun when you desperately need one, notably out on the muskeg.

“Pacific” (in more ways than one) New Zealand ties with Canada at 11.5. Australia is at 9.7, just below Germany at 9.9. In both countries, if you are licensed to own one gun, consider yourself lucky.

Switzerland, where everyone is pretty much required to own a military-issue assault rifle and a military-issue 9mm pistol to match, checks in at 11.1. I guess the Swiss are pretty happy, overall, or at least somewhat more so than Americans.

The 1st rank country is Greenland, with a huge 108.1/per 100,000. I don’t know what their gun laws are like, but it occurs to me that, based on what I know of that island’s climate, suicide is still probably less of a problem than simple survival is. (Not all parts of the world are equally hospitable to Man.)

If correlation were causality between firearms ownership by civilians and suicide, the United States should rank higher that most other countries, period. Ditto Switzerland.

They don’t.

I think we can drop this theory in the “circular file” now. At least until Josh Sugarmann spouts off about it again.
