Mark Kirk to Holder: Tell the truth, has the DOJ been harvesting Congress’s phone records too?

posted at 2:41 pm on June 6, 2013 by Allahpundit

Via Joel Gehrke, I won’t spoil the surprise of Holder’s answer. I’ll simply amend something that I said last night on Twitter: After this exchange, we may be only two or three more scandals away from this guy’s job being in trouble.

At another point in today’s hearing, he said he won’t resign because there are still lots of “goals” he has as AG — which, given the news of the last few weeks, may be the single most terrifying soundbite to come out of Scandalmania. To cleanse your palate after you watch, read this short but pungent Onion piece that fills the gap between what Hopenchange promised circa 2008 and what it’s amounted to in practice. If you cringed at O’s insulting speech about how stricken his liberal conscience is by having to vaporize unidentified Pakistanis from the air, you’ll appreciate it.

How many rights do gays have under Muslims?

I can’t answer your question, because I have absolutely no idea what I’m babbling about.

Typical lib thinking.

It’s amusing. They don’t even stop to think, that, at this very moment, the NSA is collecting data on Code Pink, The Rainbow Coalition, CAIR, LaRaza, the NAACP……

The Machine doesn’t discriminate.

MichaelGabriel on June 6, 2013 at 3:48 PM

When the Clinton Co-President stole those 900 FBI files, some of them were files on their Democrat enemies. And some were of their Democrat friends as well.

Del Dolemonte on June 6, 2013 at 4:45 PM

Holder’s hair reminds me of one of those fuzzy bathing caps women used to wear in the 1950s. It’s impossible for me to look at him and take him seriously.

Sadly, he does not have the same problem when he looks in a mirror.

Many of you are willing to ignore even remove rights from gays and Muslims. Yes there is a connection. Capitalist Hog on June 6, 2013 at 2:51 PM

As far as I’m concerned Holder just acknowledged the Progs actually did spy and probably continue to spy on Congress. Look at what has happened to our party over the years under the leadership of the Republican establishment yet they continue to think they are relevant so thank you John McCain, Dick Lugar, Lindsey Graham & Co., for the depression and anxiety propounded upon your supporters by your wimpy wimpy, don’t rock the boat BS for the last 9 or so years. Each of you are simply clueless as to the degree of internal espionage being precipitated by Obama, et al., and when it comes to light that those taps included they’re own personal home phones, especially those of McCain and Graham, those responsible will deserve a McCain/Graham RINO cuddle.

I’m done with it. EOM….

Tangerinesong on June 6, 2013 at 5:13 PM

The point is that these same transgressions against citizens’ rights would be fine if the targets were members of those groups you loathe and denigrate.

It’s a strange world when Mark Kirk gets something that Lindsey Graham doesn’t.

I would really love to see someone ask AG Holder:

“With regard to your decisions involving prosecutorial powers, did you have any involvement in the closing of the Philadelphia New Black Panther voter suppressions case?”

Kirk set a beautiful trap.

Answer=Yes – Congress is outraged

Answer=No – Americans are outraged that they are treated differently and more suspiciously than Congress

An ‘appropiate setting’. This is NOT what my boss, Mr. Barack Obama, meant when he promised, “to run the most transparent White House in U.S. history — disclosing donations, shunning lobbyists, and broadcasting important meetings on C-SPAN”. Or when he said, “We’re the most transparent and ethical administration in U.S. history”. Or, ‘We are making every effort to be transparent’. “With all due respect, Senator”.

Netclimber on June 6, 2013 at 8:47 PM

Question: What happens when our Congress people feel threatened by their government? Is it different from you or I? Or will we “suddenly” ‘see’ some kind of motion? …

Netclimber on June 6, 2013 at 8:54 PM

Verizon is the provider for blackberries issued to many congressional staffers. I suspect this could get ugly.

meezle on June 6, 2013 at 9:01 PM

This shows, once again, that the president is a feckless lump. He doesn’t have the skills to lead, hasn’t involved himself in the day to day workings of the government he is supposed to be in charge of, and when things like this are revealed, he does nothing. He will probably spend the weekend doing what he does best…raising funds.

scalleywag on June 6, 2013 at 9:54 PM

Mark Kirk to Holder: Tell the truth, has the DOJ been harvesting Congress’s phone records too?

Kinda goes without saying.

But Holder and his boss will say, “Go screw yourself.”

And the Republicans will say, “Oh, OK, just thought we’d ask. No hard feelings…right?”

Dr. ZhivBlago on June 6, 2013 at 10:29 PM

At this point, I am not sure it is worth asking Holder any more questions. What sanctions are available?

virgo on June 7, 2013 at 12:48 AM

One thing the House can do on its own is zero out all these travel and conference budgets. In tough times, they can’t be justified.

If Obama wants to shut down the government because there’s no money to party, let him explain it to the people.

Adjoran on June 7, 2013 at 1:34 AM

After this exchange, we may be only two or three more scandals away from this guy’s job being in trouble.

Under Clinton Holder helped secure a pardon for Mega-Tax Evader Marck Rich & helped secure a pardon for members of the terrorist group FALN, terrorists who perpetrated bombings within the US & did NOT want a pardon, and Holder was found to have withheld information in order to secure that pardon. Holder also fought for leniency for 2 terrorist members of the Weathermen Underground (the same group Obama’s convicted terrorist buddy, Bill Ayers, belonged to0 who were caught transporting 740lbs of explosives they intended to use to blow up the White House.

Under Obama, Holder stepped in to drop criminal charges against 2 New Black Panther members who had been arrested for brandishing weapons & intimidating voters at a eection site in 2008. (Obama’s campaign web site proudly displayed the New Black Panthers’ endorsement of his campaign & even had a link to the NBP’s own web site…until the news media found out about it and reported it. within 12 hours the link & endorsement were removed from the Obama campaign web page.)

Under Obama Holder perpetrated 3 (THREE) Felony counts of PERJURY during the Fast & Furious scandal investigation. The only reason Holder is NOT IN JAIL now is because the DOJ REFUSED to press charges against their boss, leaving Congress with only 1 option. Congress CENSURED Holder for his crimes, making Holder the ONLY Attorney General in U.S. history to be Censured. The REAL crime, however, was the fact that the DOJ aided & abetted Holder in getting away with BREAKING THE LAW & the fact that in doing so the DOJ exposed the fact that there is not REAL ‘Checks & Balances’ system within our government to keep it in check.

And NOW Holder has perpetrated ANOTHER Felony Count of Perjury before Congress when he told Congress that he knew NOTHING about the wire-tap scandal, only for all of us to lear HE had signed off on it / approved it!

Finally yesterday Holder all but admitted his DOJ has been spying on CONGRESS when he refused to answer the question of if he was or not. Instead Holder stated he would be open to coming back & talking to Congress about that when he WASN’T ON TV. At this point the Congressman asking the question cut Holder off by saying, “THIS is where you should be answering with a simple ‘NO’.”

WHAT MORE DOES IT TAKE BEFORE HOLDER IS HELD ACCOUNTABLE & RELIEVED AS ATTORNEY GENERAL?! HOLDER, A PROVEN LIAR & CRIMINAL, AS ATTORNEY GENERAL IS A COMPLETE MOCKERY OF JUSTICE!

easyt65 on June 7, 2013 at 8:27 AM

Kirk: The shorter and more acceptable answer would have been “No”.

Hahaha…

We are so screwed.

petefrt on June 7, 2013 at 8:28 AM

On a ‘lighter side’, I did not have great confidence in Congress in their WILLINGNESS to see this investigation through & actually hold someone accountable. It is amazing how everything changes when Congress suddenly realizes that THEY are one of the victims! I actually believe Holder may be in trouble this time…

easyt65 on June 7, 2013 at 8:30 AM

Verizon is the provider for blackberries issued to many congressional staffers. I suspect this could get ugly.

meezle on June 6, 2013 at 9:01 PM

Hope so. Very ugly. It needs to get very ugly.

petefrt on June 7, 2013 at 8:32 AM

Oh, and WHILE we are being startled into shock at the news of how the Obama administration is spying & collecting data on the AMERICAN PEOPLE in order to ‘root out terrorists’ as part of the ‘War on Terror’ that does not exist anymore…

Our new ‘Globalist’, America-hating Secretary of State, John Kerry, just gave the terrorist member of the Muslim Brotherhood & President of the nation run by that organization ANOTHER #1.3 BILLION in tax-payer dollars:

Kerry Quietly Skirts Law Put in Place by Congress, Sends Muslim Brotherhood-Controlled Egypt $1.3 Billion Gift

Secretary of State John Kerry last month secretly sent $1.3 billion in U.S. military aid to Muslim Brotherhood-controlled Egypt, waiving the restrictions put in place by Congress to withhold such aid unless the country could meet certain democracy standards.

“Under U.S. law, for the $1.3 billion to flow the secretary of state must certify that the Egyptian government ‘is supporting the transition to civilian government, including holding free and fair elections, implementing policies to protect freedom of expression, association and religion, and due process of law’,” Reuters reports.

Kerry’s quiet decision came before an Egyptian court this week sentenced 43 democracy workers, including 16 Americans, to up to five years in jail for working in NGOs not registered with the government. Critics of the restrictive government see the action as a crackdown on pro-democracy, non-governmental organizations.

While the Islamic Extremist-sympathizing Obama & his administration justifies the massive spying & collecting of personal data from Americans by claiming he seeks to PREVENT acts of terrorism he is simultaneously FUNDING TERRORISM!

For the Muslim Brotherhood, Obama has helped overthrow Mubarrak, pressured Egyptians for an expedited election timeline that favored the Muslim Brotherhood – allowing them to take over the government, during our economic crisis he GAVE the terrorist government 200 tanks & 24 new F-16 fighter jets (which strategically they could only use against Israel), & has now bypassed/Ignored Congress AGAIN to give them another $1.3 Billion of our taxpayer dollars!

It’s not hard to figure out whose side Obama is on…

(& YES, I hope your @$$ is monitoring this, you POS!)

When will enforcement begin on all the folks who have committed perjury? Why have them take the oath if there is no penalty for the lies?

Amazingoly on June 8, 2013 at 9:17 AM

Of course the administration is spying on Congress. They have utter contempt for the body. If they could abolish it, they would. Reid, McConnell and Boehner all got the memo that their role is ceremonial.

The last time Reid exerted himself was when it seemed there was opposition to the unconstitutional Obamacare. Boehner has done nothing but approve spending (but at lower levels, maybe, possibly).

I wonder how many officials know for a fact, rather than suspect, that they are under surveillance?

virgo on June 8, 2013 at 12:56 PM

If these Arseholes are looking at my phone and email and whatever the heck else then they damn well better be looking in on Congress and everybody else!
Could this be the reason our Supreme Court Chief Justice went along with Obamamcare???

As for Boehner, I can’t wait for someone to have the guts to challenge him. Will someone please stand up for the Constitution!
