Democrats head home with ObamaCare messaging strategy in hand

posted at 8:41 pm on May 28, 2013 by Erika Johnsen

Besides the behemoth task of actually setting up and operating the many facets of ObamaCare in short order, the Obama administration is also desperately grappling with the task of ‘educating the public’ on ObamaCare’s so-called benefits; i.e., convincing people that they should actually sign up for the proffered insurance deals through the forthcoming exchanges. The health care overhaul’s popularity is struggling, but in order for the system to even have a chance of getting off the ground successfully, they need people to sign up and start paying up en masse — particularly the young and healthy people who won’t actually end up needing much health care coverage.

The administration is organizing their own various campaigns to get the good progressive word out to the largely uninformed public in time, and with the administration’s and the Democrats’ interests obviously very much aligned in terms of making ObamaCare at least look like a winner ahead of the 2014 elections, the Democrats have been getting to work, too. Congress it out of session this week, but the Democratic caucus left the Hill with their marching orders on how to sell ObamaCare to their constituents in the form of some handy-dandy messaging “toolkits” from the party leadership. Via Roll Call:

The Democratic Steering and Policy Committee sent members back to their districts last week armed with “Affordable Care Act Toolkits,” meticulously organized binders containing every piece of information lawmakers could possibly need to communicate the nuances of the law to their constituents.

“Reforming our health care system is an historic opportunity to make health care more affordable and bring the kind of change we were all elected to achieve for the American people,” Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of California and committee co-chairmen Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut and Robert E. Andrews of New Jersey wrote in a May 22 introductory letter accompanying each toolkit, one of which was obtained by CQ Roll Call.

“Nothing could be more important,” the letter continues, “which is why we now want to educate our constituents about the new law, help to implement it, and strengthen the hands of those who have worked for this historic reform.”

BuzzFeed has a copy of the 78-page packet on which Democrats have been working for months, if you care to take a gander; it’s chock-full of resources that encourage members to focus on rhetorical gems like “no denial for pre-existing conditions” and “women are charged the same rates as men” and etcetera; to work on their outreach to and collaboration with nonprofits and groups like Planned Parenthood; as well as to mention the range of available tax credits and the specific guidelines for groups like seniors and small businesses and whatnot:

The document is also optimistic about the cost of these plans: “A significant majority of people in the new Marketplaces will pay the same or less than they do for their coverage right now,” it says, citing tax credits available for health-care premiums.

The pamphlet focuses on detailed advice for how to sell the legislation to specific groups of people.

“Do an event on being a woman no longer being treated as a ‘pre-existing condition,’” it advises.

Nothing particularly new, but these are the talking points with which Democrats are going to be going on the offensive, and Republicans are going to have plenty of punching back to do.

If Obamacare were all that good, so very special, and was an overall benefit to any and all…there’d be no need for “messaging” nor anything else.

The overall problem would then become how to deal bureaucratically with the millions and millions upon millions of Americans flocking in droves to make sure they were properly covered under Obamacare.

But…

Seems like even the Unions are trying to steer away from Obamacare…

Affordable?

For whom?

Young voter apathy is bad enough — watching the Democrats try to get that same block of people to become proactive at spending more of their limited funds on a service 90 percent of them don’t worry much about at their age should be high comedy in the upcoming months (i.e. — I’m waiting for this fall’s liberal celebrity concert tours to promote Obamacare registration).

The American people have been refusing to eat the dog food since May, 2009, which was the last time that Obamacare (which was still a Hopenchange idea) had a favourable approval rating. Now, even some unions are squealing (like the fat pigs that they are) for its complete repeal (‘cuz they are learning that, in the case of Obamacare, all animals ARE equal…save those in Congress).

Two US embassy personnel shot in Venezuela

CARACAS — Two employees of the US embassy in Venezuela were shot and wounded early Tuesday in the capital Caracas, in a murky incident that local media and a police source said took place at a strip club.

“We can confirm that two members of the US embassy in Caracas were injured during an incident early this morning,” State Department spokesman Patrick Ventrell told reporters in Washington.

“Medical staff inform us that their injuries are not life-threatening,” he added, noting that they were hurt at “some sort of a social spot” but without specifying the venue or nature of their injuries.

US diplomatic sources later confirmed to AFP that the two men were shot.

The Venezuelan media identified the two men as Roberto Ezequiel Rosas and Paul Marwin, and said they were military attaches at the embassy, but neither the State Department nor the embassy in Caracas would confirm those reports.

Whatever. The democrat “base” – illegals, freeloaders, welfare leeches, OCCUPIERS, flukes, etc., will be automatically “signed up”, and don’t have to pay a dime – these dregs of society aren’t going to be happy about their sudden loss of “freedom” (their drug-fueled anonymity and lack of responsibilities and obligations) – THEY are the ones who will bring about the collapse of the system, early on. Non-democrats, aka TAXPAYERS, will necessarily have to be FORCED into the system – probably at gunpoint. So, good luck democrats.

Er, no.

What auto insurance policy pays for gas or tune-ups?

What home insurance policy pays for landscaping, paint job after paint job, and new plumbing?

Obamacare covers tune-ups (annual check-ups/’preventive maintenance’), gas (Viagra and contraceptives), new kitchens (sex change operations), landscaping (gender identification counseling), and paint job after paint job (26 year-old ‘children’).

See, that’s the difference between auto/home insurance, i.e., INSURANCE, and Obamacare, “‘FREE’ HEALTHCARE.”

Auto insurance is as much about, if not more, making sure a party injured by the policy holder is protected. Same to some degree for homeowner’s insurance, to cover an injury that occurs on the owner’s property.

Obamacare has none of those features. It’s about making people pay higher premiums (tax, if you will) so government can administrate the funds to cover those they deem worthy.

Only a liberal would try comparing all three types of insurance under one heading, to cover their precious Obama.

Ditto. I’ve been in health insurance for 18 years and never heard of it in the group market, at least. The only market that might happen is the individual market and there’s all sorts of caveats on how high your premiums can go there.

Angry members and sometimes even doctors I’ve had on the phone make comments like “I hope Obama shuts your industry down” to which my response is I hate to break it to you, sweetheart–the government will then hire people like me to do exactly what I’m doing now.

Going on the premise that every battle-plan is good until the first shot is fired, I suspect that those tool-kits are going to be effective until the first people start getting higher medical bills. Then when the questions start flying–”Why is my bill higher, when it was supposed to be lower?”, or, “Why don’t I have dental anymore?”, and so on–well, I doubt they’ll find the answer to those, and similar questions in the old tool-kit. Then, just like so many “only-dropped once” French weapons of legend, the tool-kit binders will be left lying all over the place. Then it’ll be “Run away, run away!”, and the dreams of a 2014 Democrat victory will go up in the smoke of the great Affordable Care Act flame-out.

http://www.coveredca.com/news/PDFs/SilverPlanRatesChart.pdf

Notice that even in the fliers, not the actual policies, that the same coverage in LA is 242/mo while it is 337/mo in Sacramento. This means that even the alledged fairness of everyone paying the same has major (39.25%) swing in prices across similar parts of the state. Of course, this is a flier and not what is actually going to be charged.

Once these people understand that they are NOT going to have some major wave of signups, ALL of these phony price guidelines will be tossed out the window.

Of course, madam pelosi can take all this to the bank!

LOL. The politicians pimping Obamacare better hope that no one in the crowd asks who pays for all the “tax credits” (i.e., checks from the U.S. Treasury) that are going to have to be paid out to help this “significant majority” of people afford their new “affordable” health-care premiums.

Although with this group of nitwit politicians, they probably believe the money for the “tax credits” comes from “Obama’s stash” — just like so many of their constituents do.

Affordable?

For whom?

coldwarrior on May 28, 2013 at 8:51 PM

For people who don’t work, of course. Where have you been these past few years?

Members should also remind their constituents that Republicans have just passed a bill–for the 37th time–that repeals all these protections.

And this is a bad thing? Thank the Lord some people have the common sense to try to kill this monster.

Reading through the tripe that is the Dumbocrat’s talking points reminds me of Sleeping Beauty, and how much Obamacare is the Poison Apple. The only difference is that no amount of evil magic could possibly make the witch Pelosi look like a warm and caring type.

OK, I just finished reading the whole packet. The ACA (I won’t call it Obamacare anymore, just too denigrating) sounds absolutely wonderful! Why have all these opponents been lying and deceiving us for all this time?

There are so many benefits to the ACA. Lower insurance rates, no maximums, can’t discriminate against women and those with pre-existing conditions who require much greater care, tax benefits to small businesses and lower income individuals, adult children can stay on their parent’s insurance, medicare benefits are greatly increased, lots of free stuff like annual exams, preventive care, and some other procedures (didn’t mention transgender surgery though). Whew, so much free stuff that we don’t have to pay for! And the CBO says it will reduce the deficit to boot!

One question though. Who’s going to pay for all this wonderful stuff? Oh well, I guess it doesn’t really matter–so much FREE STUFF!

78 pages, including 13 blank pages, 7 pages of briefing dates, a 19 page phone directory, and no page numbering.

Short form-June is MSM’s chance to quit reporting on O Admin scandals and sit at the cool girls lunch table again at Obamacare meetings.

Never under estimate marketing. Microsoft built a mega-company on the back of an inferior MSDOS operating system.

Ya know, all this is simply BS. When you all get serious about what’s going on in this country and somehow miraculously find some conviction to do something about it, give me a holler otherwise I’ll leave you Neville “we’re so screwed” Chamberlain’s to your own devices.

Bottom line is this is not going to stop until we make it stop and with what I’ve seen out of our Men, and I use that description loosely, that’s not likely. Hey Mom and Dad, you raised a bunch of girly Boys who would rather see their Wives and their children’s Mother’s go toe to toe with this Progressive Dreck that are changing our entire way of life and that of our children yet your Sons remain silent. As a Mother that’s not gonna happen with me while I still have air in my lungs. American Men? I dunno, haven’t seen a real one for a while, check Dancing with the Stars. We women are preparing to ensure our Liberty. Take care of the children Guys while we women collect scalps and supplies.

Look around people, this is precisely where we’re at. The next man I see or hear say we’re so screwed is the one who gets screwed, got it Nancies?

I swear that woman is going to stroke out.
avagreen on May 28, 2013 at 9:19 PM

Won’t happen. It’s all just an act… her blood pressure doesn’t even go up when she gets that way. A la ‘Oz the Great and Powerful’, long ago she bit the green apple and her heart withered to a piece of turkey jerky.

Not that people are going to live and die by this distinction, but it was Snow White who ate the poison apple. Sleeping Beauty pricked her finger on a spindle.

Between the two, I’d have to say it depends on perspective. Snow White is the more apt analogy for consumers, since the Dems are carrying this poison apple to the masses and saying that all their dreams will come true if they take a bite. But I feel more like the king and queen in Sleeping Beauty, where all our efforts to protect people from a prophesied tragedy is for naught, because the evil queen compels her to touch the spindle anyway and then turns into a huge dragon.
