Carney: Asking about Sebelius fundraising for ObamaCare a lot like being a birther, or something

posted at 3:21 pm on May 21, 2013 by Ed Morrissey

You know, a White House that just got exposed for spying on journalists probably should be doing some bridge-rebuilding, especially for an administration who needs a friendly media as much as this one does.  What’s the worst possible way to get back in the media’s good graces?  Accusing them of being conspiracy nuts for asking about Kathleen Sebelius’ fundraising for ObamaCare, starting with CBS’ Major Garrett, who just got done fronting the Benghazi e-mail defense demolished by Glenn Kessler today.

Thanks bunches, Major:

Struggling with a reporter about which Republican concerns are and are not legitimate, White House spokesman Jay Carney said that if reporters are going to ask about every issue, they should include President Obama’s birth certificate. …

Garrett followed up and asked if questions related to Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius’s fundraising for the Affordable Care Act were also legitimate. Carney grew irritated and responded by referencing conspiracy theories about the president’s birthplace.

“You know, we could go down the list of questions — we could say, what about the president’s birth certificate? Were that — was that legitimate?” Carney responded.

I guess the media is discovering how the White House treats Republicans who disagree with them.  Welcome to the party, pal!

Twitchy has a few of the reactions in the aftermath, including from the suddenly-nutcasey media:

Indeed.  Looks like the stonewalling has begun.

I hope the GOP house is prepared for a constitutional crisis because Obama and his thug admin will NOT allow Congress to have oversight of them. this is setting up for a confortation of branches of government and I think like nixon the POTUS position will become less powerful for years to come.

Well, even though technically he was held “in contempt of Congress” that ruling came just from the House of Representatives. Any impeachment would have to still go thru the Democrat-held Senate, and the chances they will convict the First Black Attorney General are about as good as nonpartisan becoming a Supreme Court Justice.

Since Lerner won’t answer questions, Taylor asked that she be excused from appearing, saying that would “have no purpose other than to embarrass or burden her.”

I’m okay with that.

“Purposeful embarrassment,” aka “shaming,” seems as good a reason to call her before the committee as any. As long as the administration wants to plead the 5th, might as well do it on national tv.

Why is she pleading the 5th anyway? Administration out of executive privileges? Or has Obama hung her out to dry?

Provide a copy of all your Facebook posts. List all your Facebook friends and contacts.

Who are all your political contacts? Who are their contacts?

Tell me, Ms. Lerner, to whom do you pray? What did you pray about last? Are you praying now?

RE: Obama birth certificate et al.

The available evidence, as far as I am concerned, is that Obama has adequately shown that he was born on Oahu.

Any other alleged inconsistencies about his life after that are not relevant unless one is trying to show that the Obama the President and Obama the newborn infant were not the same person.

Sebelius apparently solicited “donations” from companies that her Department regulates and can penalize if they so choose, and the issue is not whether she did it but the propriety/legality of her doing so. If she did and it was not legal for her to do so that is hardly a “birther” situation.

Obviously Carney wants to connect “birthers” and “inquiry into Sebelius’s conduct” together because low-information citizens won’t think of the real difference between the two.

“You know, we could go down the list of questions — we could say, what about the president’s birth certificate? Were that — was that legitimate?” Carney responded.

OK, Jay Carney, let’s go down the list of questions:

1) Is Barack Obama above the law?

2) Where is the Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification that Barack Obama was legally required to complete?

All employees, citizens and noncitizens, hired after November 6, 1986 and working in the United States must complete a Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification.

3) Why is it that Barack Obama has never publicly released anything which would be considered “Acceptable Documentation” by the Form I-9?

4) If Barack Obama’s birth certificate is legitimate, then why has he never released a hard copy of it for inspection?

5) Why did Whitehouse.gov post a PDF file that is not only unacceptable documentation for a Form I-9 but also described as “UNDOUBTEDLY A FRAUD” by the only law enforcement agency to have seriously examined it?

6) Why do you joke about this issue when Barack Obama has yet to prove that he is in compliance with current immigration law (the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986) and the requirements to hold the office of Presidency (Article II Section 1 of the United States Constitution)?

Cara C on May 21, 2013 at 4:53 PM

Very true, and very enlightening… the REASON Jay Carney brought up the “birther” issue is because HE IS TRYING TO SILENCE ANYONE WHO QUESTIONS ANYTHING AOBUT THIS ADMINISTRATION.

The fact that Carney tried to play the “Birther” card reveals that the administration is VERY afraid of the press following this line of questioning.

But the “Birther” Card, like the Race Card, has been played so much that it is losing potency with each usage.

I don’t expect Major Garrett to be intimidated by Jay Carney playing the “Birther” card.

Please read the Comprehensive Analysis of Obama LFBC PDF File that was part of the official Sheriff’s investigation which said that the PDF is “UNDOUBTEDLY A FRAUD”.

It’s not just the fact that there are layers… it’s the fact that what is contained within those layers is inconsistent with any scanning and/or compression algorithms. The “birth certificate” is a human-manufactured composite of multiple images.

DING! DING! DING!

There is no reason to give him the benefit of the doubt.

He is legally required to provide his employer (us) with a Form I-9 and hard copy documentation from a very specific list of Acceptable Documentation. And the ONLY document on that list that shows birth location and names of parents (both relevant to being a “natural born citizen”) is a hard copy birth certificate.

Every legal U.S. worker is legally required to prove their Employment Eligibility with hard copy, acceptable documentation.

Obama is not above the law, but he continues to act as if he were.

That was one of the first obvious scams Obama played and nobody that mattered had the nads to call him on it. So why are we surprised today that Obama knows he can get away with anything no matter how outrageous or illegal?

Everybody in congress and the MSM let Obama get away with a birth certificate as obviously fake as a three dollar bill. I’m sure that was the moment he decided he was untouchable and could get away with anything.

Axion on May 22, 2013 at 2:06 AM

Exactly.

Who was the first to say Barack Obama was “born in Kenya”?

The answer is Barack Obama, in 1991, in his own bio!

That and a whole lot more, including info about the Affidavit submitted by Sheriff Joe’s Lead Investigator of the Cold Case Posse, can be found here:
http://obamareleaseyourrecords.blogspot.com/2013/05/video-white-house-carney-plays-birther.html

Obama may have claimed even earlier than 1991 that he was “born in Kenya”… we don’t know what his college records show, because he won’t release them.

And which Government organization was the first to say, “Obama was born in Hawaii”?

The correct answer is NOT “The Hawaii State Department of Health”.

The correct answer is: The United States House of Representatives, in H. RES. 593, on July 27, 2009.

Dr. Fukino, Director of Health for the State of Hawaii, did not issue a press release saying “Barack Hussein Obama was born in Hawai‘i” until AFTER the U.S. House of Representatives said so first!

Could H. RES. 593 have been used as “prima facie” evidence by the State of Hawaii to issue Dr. Fukino’s second News Release and finally make the claim “Obama was born in Hawaii”?

I think the answer is yes, based on

Federal Rules of Evidence
Rule 902. Self-authentication

(10) Presumptions under Acts of Congress. Any signature, document, or other matter declared by Act of Congress to be presumptively or prima facie genuine or authentic.

Hours after the U.S. House passed H.RES. 593, Dr. Fukino issued her second press release, seemly out of the blue, and finally said “Obama was born in Hawaii”.

ITguy on May 22, 2013 at 4:04 AM

Repeating for emphasis:

Which Government organization was the first to say, “Obama was born in Hawaii”?

If you think the answer is “The Hawaii State Department of Health”…

Sorry, that answer is not a winner.

Neil Abercrombie (current Governor of Hawaii and then-U.S. House of Representatives member from Hawaii) and Nancy Pelosi (then Speaker of the House, and the person who signed Obama’s Certificate of Nomination!) were instrumental in getting the U.S. House to pass H. RES. 593, on July 27, 2009, and it was not until hours after H.Res. 593 was voted on and resolved that the Hawaii State Department of Health issued a Press Release which echoed the claim “Obama was born in Hawaii”.

The whole thing is fishy.

And when Donald Trump pressured Obama to “release his Birth Certificate”, Obama did not release a hard copy document for inspection. The only thing Obama “released” was a URL to a PDF.

An official Sheriff’s investigation included a Comprehensive Analysis of Obama LFBC PDF File and concluded that the PDF is “UNDOUBTEDLY A FRAUD”.

Whoa! The Nation going after CAP. Blue-on-blue.

Resist We Much on May 21, 2013 at 4:41 PM

We need a theme song:

Blue on blue, heartache on heartache
Blue on blue now that we are through
Blue on blue, heartache on heartache
And I find I can’t get over losing you

I walk along the street we used to walk
Two by two, lovers pass
And as they’re passing by, I could die
‘Cause you’re not here with me
Now the trees are bare
There’s sadness in the air
And I’m as blue as I can be

Blue on blue, heartache on heartache
Blue on blue now that we are through
Blue on blue, heartache on heartache
And I find I can’t get over losing you

Night after lonely night, we meet in dreams
As I run to your side
You wait with open arms, open arms
That now are closed to me
Through a veil of tears
Your vision disappears
And I’m as blue as I can be

Blue on blue, heartache on heartache
Blue on blue now that we are through
Blue on blue, heartache on heartache
And I find I can’t get over losing you

Carney’s insult is just the first trial balloon to see if they can intimidate reporters to move on to something else.

But like all the other initial scandal denials and stonewalling, this story too will change in… 5, 4, 3…

Who cares WHY she did it, but there is a law that specifies that Congress can onlty spend the money it collects in TAXES. She BROKE THAT LAW by fundraising and spending the money on govt spending. Besides, asking money from people/groups she is over equates to extortion! She is ANOTHER example of how Liberals / this administration is OUT OF CONTROL — ‘Take ‘er down!’

easyt65 on May 22, 2013 at 8:10 AM

Time for that cocky little smarta$$ to get out of our WH. Showing contempt for reporter’s questions should be cause for termination, but in this administration it’s not only acceptable, it seems to be their modus operandi. It’s like we have a bunch of little p@#$%s in the house.

What is Obama’s favorite shop?

Starts with a curved yellow fruit.

Sherman1864 on May 22, 2013 at 8:55 AM

“About Benghazi…”
>> “Benghazi?! There is no ‘there’ there. There are no ‘Black Helicopters’, no ‘conspiracy’…we need to move on & make sure this never happens again. Where was Obama during the attack in Benghazi? Would you ask George Bush ‘where were you when 9/11 happened’ if he went missing for 24 hours during THAT attack? I don’t think so!

“In the IRS scandal…”
>> What ‘Scandal’? There were a few low-level lone wolves operating on their own, not coordinating with each other, being over-zealous in their work, grouping people together to make their job easier, and went a little too far. Besides, Bush is responsible because one of the supervisors alive during this whole thing was appointed by HIM. Yes, the Chief of Staff & the entire Cabinet was briefed by the IG, but nothing was ever said to Obama about it. Why? Because he was on vacation again at the time.

“How about the new news that reporters parents had their phones tapped?”
>> We believed his mother, a prominent member of the TEA Party in her community, was supplying him with valuable information on terrorist activity and homegrown terrorists. Like Bill Ayers and the Weathermen Underground? NO, NOT like them – they were ‘activists’ fighting for a cause! And NO, we were not ‘targeting the TEA Party like the IRS was doing’! Yes, we apologized to the Israelis for leaking to the papers last week abot how they stuck Syria, but it was the media’s fault for actually putting that out in the public. We are in the process of finding out everyone they told about that. Who do you work for? What’s your e-mail address and phone number? (Eric, did you get all that?)

I have no love for insurance companies, especially since they wanted (and helped write) Barry’s Big Fascist Medical System, but the irony is thick indeed:

Progressives Suddenly Support Health Insurance Marketing
http://www.coyoteblog.com/coyote_blog/2013/05/progressives-suddenly-support-health-insurance-marketing.html

Suddenly, now that Progressives have taken over health care via the PPACA and federal exchanges, their tune has changed. They seem to have a near infinite appetite for marketing money to support construction of the exchanges (which serve the role of the broker, though less well because there is no support) and information about options to potential participants. That these are exactly the kinds of expenses they have railed against for years in the private world seems to elicit no irony

In fact new rules under OCare dictate what little amount a health insurance company can spend on marketing and advertising.

Time for Carney to find work as a carny. Get him off the podium and get him hustling for the bearded fat lady.

It’s a ship that goes underwater you numbskull. ;)

Actually, “Numbskull” a submarine is a BOAT, not a ship.
