The GOP is boycotting Obama’s pick for EPA chief, and Democrats are not happy about it

posted at 6:01 pm on May 9, 2013 by Erika Johnsen

On Thursday, Republican senators put the brakes on the confirmation of President Obama’s nominee for EPA chief, Gina McCarthy, saying that they were “completely unsatisfied” with the answers she was providing to their lines of questioning. Via Reuters:

The dispute over McCarthy stems from more than 1,000 written questions Republican senators asked her after her confirmation hearing – what Democrats say is a new record for the number of written questions asked of a nominee. …
David Vitter of Louisiana, the top Republican on the Environment Committee, told reporters their boycott was not related to McCarthy’s qualifications but to her refusal to answer questions about transparency within the agency.

All eight committee Republicans refused to participate in a scheduled vote on McCarthy, leaving her nomination in limbo and unable to advance to the next stage – a full Senate vote.

The White House responded with outrage. “There has been a historic level of obstructionism from the Senate on this nomination and others,” White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters aboard Air Force One.

Republican senators noted that Environment Committee Democrats, when in the minority, staged a similar boycott in 2003 of EPA nominee Michael Leavitt, forcing a vote to be rescheduled. Leavitt was ultimately confirmed.

Never you mind that Democrats staged a boycott of EPA nominee Michael Leavitt in 2003; the point, according to today’s Democrats, is that Republicans are merely up to their habitually spiteful and obstructionist antics and that McCarthy has already answered a record number of questions so just confirm her already, for pete’s sake.

Well, Given that McCarthy has been an assistant administrator at the EPA for years already — i.e., she’s been a major player in the Obama administration’s ongoing regulatory onslaught at an out-of-control, overzealous, and power-tripping independent agency — and that the agency has recently been under fire for some very serious transparency problems, isn’t it possible that she perhaps deserves the extra scrutiny?

Nah.

And yes, Sen. Boxer, Republicans do actually hate the environment, public health, and most especially women. Thanks for clearing that up.

Only because there has been an historic level of statist, leftist marxists that this administration has sent for confirmation. The Senate is not used to confirming communists for cabinet positions, so this is a little new to them. I’m sure, in time, Grahmnesty, McCain, McConnell, and their new best bud Rubio will all come to embrace the marxists sent to the hill for confirmation; right now, it’s a little awkward.

‘For those prone to the conspiratorial, it has been reported by many insiders in the Gay Community that Obama belongs to a “hush-hush” group known as the “Down Low Club” (DLC). Furthermore, there are allegations that he and “The Godfather” Rahm Emanuel were card-carrying members of “Man’s Country:” a Chicago club catering to discreet and discerning “High End Gays.” Even more salacious is the allegation that a room exists on the club’s premises known as “the Presidential Suite…”‘

I wasn’t aware of their skin tone, but I know their politics, and they stink even in space.

NASA Administrator Bolden told Al Jazeera that the agency’s new priority is outreach to Muslims. After gutting NASA and killing its space program, the agency focused on its new top priority by appointing Waleed Abdalati, as its new Chief Scientist. Waleed Abdalati is a twofer, as a Muslim and a Global Warming researcher. So the Obama Administration gets to kill off the space program and replace it with Global Warming junk science headed by a Muslim. It’s what the devil would call synergy.

Since we’ve found that most of the political appointees at EPA under Obama – including the current Director – maintained outside anonymous email accounts to conduct business outside congressional scrutiny after that was expressly forbidden, anyone Obama nominates should be forced to commit to specific standards, and then defeated anyway.

Barbara Boxer is very grateful for her colleagues like Murray and Klochubar (Mikulski is close) so she can’t be labelled Dumbest Senator.

Senate legend has it that the first time Boxer got on an elevator with Strom Thurmond, he thought she was a new intern. Old Strom always did have an eye for talent, he knew her qualifications.

I watched her initial interview & she was awful. She had nothing substantive to say. She never answered ANY of the questions that were seriously posed to her.
What is always interesting in these things, & this one was no different, is that the Democrats that spoke asked no questions. They only spoke about how great & nice she was blah blah blah.
Meanwhile, every Republican that spoke asked real questions that were very relevant. And her only responses were IDK but I’ll get back to you on that or when I’m confirmed I’ll take that into consideration blah blah blah.
My husband, who avoids this type of TV, was riveted to CSPAN the whole time. He hates to get worked up about politics but he was literally shouting in frustration at the TV.
He turned to me & said “Now I know why you get so angry!”

The main problem with Gina McCarthy is not her looks, nor her “qualifications”, but what she would do with the EPA if confirmed. Gina McCarthy used to be the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection, and was constantly advocating ridiculously stringent regulations on businesses in CT.

She opposed the building of an LNG (liquified natural gas) terminal in Long Island Sound. She was closing down nuclear power plants. She supported Connecticut’s inclusion in the New England Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) which has proved so unworkable that even Massachusetts wants to abandon it.

She pushed a bill through the CT State legislature requiring Connecticut to use 10% renewable power by 2013 and 20% renewable power by 2020, enforced by fines paid to the State in case of failure, which have caused CT power costs to be highest in the US. Even today, the CT State legislature is considering a bill whereby imported hydro-electric power from Canada could be considered “renewable” because–guess what?–there’s not enough power from wind, solar, and biomass to supply 10% of CT’s needs.

David Vitter and the other committee Republicans are right. Gina McCarthy has done so much damage to Connecticut, the rest of the country can’t afford her.

My favorite lie from leftists. They honestly believe if they claim not to be leftists (while supporting every single leftists meme and opposing every single conservative idea) that somehow that gives their scribblings more persuasiveness.

It’s much like their constant calls to authority. Ever notice how every lefty troll claims to not just be a lawyer and claims to have gone to Harvard law school or some equally impressive institute and/or claims to be a “professor” somewhere?

That is because they think that if they convince you of their credentials, it adds weight to their argument. Lefties never understand that it doesn’t matter whether you are a self-proclaimed genius or an obvious idiot, if the argument you are making is wrong, it is still wrong regardless of who you are.

This particular leftist is attempting her best to be a “concern troll” – claiming “I don’t have a political agenda, I’m just looking for real, common sense solutions” all the while pushing every leftist hack cliche there is.

It would be amusing were it not so pathetic.
