Video: CNN panel names Romney a religious fanatic for promoting … children

posted at 4:11 pm on May 3, 2013 by Ed Morrissey

Via BuzzFeed, here’s the latest in tolerance from last night’s Piers Morgan show.  Mitt Romney spoke at a commencement for Southern Virginia University, whose student body is 92% Mormon, according to Hunter Schwartz, and Romney used his speech to talk about traditional Mormon pro-family values — or really, generic Christian family values.  For quoting Psalms — by the way, an Old Testament book common to all Christians and Jews — the panel laughs Romney out of the room as a “religious fanatic”:

The NIV has this as “children,” while the Ignatius Catholic version uses “sons” instead.  Nonetheless, the panel starts off by misinterpreting this as a specifically Mormon teaching, rather than a broad Judeo-Christian teaching about the blessings of offspring, apparently as a means to snicker at Romney’s religious beliefs while ironically revealing their own ignorance on such matters.  Romney’s own count of five children seems amusing to the panel in this context, while they roll their eyes, laugh, call Romney a “fanatic” for quoting Psalms as advice, and state that this is the reason that single women didn’t vote for him — even though this never came up at all in the campaign.

There are fanatics in this conversation … but Romney isn’t one of them.

Schwartz has asked CNN if they stand by these statements from their panel.  May I suggest Job 11:2-3?

Addendum: On further consideration, I’m also struck at how ungracious this attack is.  Mitt Romney has stayed out of the political debate since he lost the election six months ago, and CNN is still doing spots on Mormon Weirdness?  Ah, tolerance …

Open season on open Christians

BTW, one group still not attacked are religious American Jews

Israelis are the safe target. You can pretend the attack is political and not prejudiced

But since Obama’s re election, the media is running overtime redefining Christians as dangerous radical elements in society

Actually, the big change came with gay marriage

Now, Christians must die, so gay marriage can live. The Bible, which is the Christian Mein Kampf, must be banned.

Start with the military. Homosexualize, re educated the soldiers to homosexuality, ban religious expression contrary to homosexuality. Court martial and dishonorable discharges are the means. This ruins the job opportunities of the discharged soldier

Got to mark all followers of the old religion like Romney.

Wow. This thread was a great thing to rad b/c of a few of you.

The sad fact is that if we were smart, we would be rich.
Did you hear Senator Reid on the radio show discussing healthcare?

He somehow linked our “superpower” status with the fact that we should provide free healthcare as a right.

That is pretty unrelated, Senator Reid. Why don’t you talk about putting a man on the moon? Despite our defunding NASA that was used in 2008, and I think 2012, as a support for other miracles for us to perform.

So whom do we conquer to get the money?

Study your history, that is what other empires did but somehow I don’t think this nation or this leadership is down with theft from other nations. The cutting of one another’s purses seems to be too easy for most of our factions in this country.

They are textbook bigots and hypocrites. All four of them.

All Romney has to do is become a Muslim or gay, and the hateful left will leave him alone.

The scriptural injunctions to have a large family are well known in both Jewish and Christian traditions.

Catholics for example ,are even more famous then Mormons for having large families.

Of course, this is ignored by a large number of Christians and most Jews nowadays- mainly because people want women to work and earn money so they can buy more stuff. (Granted, sometimes more stuff means just enough to keep body and soul together, but frankly that is not the only motivation going on for people having smaller families.)

What I don’t get is why people feel so at ease laughing at those who have large families, as if valuing children enough to, you know, actually bear, birth, and raise them is worthy of ridicule?

Apparently valuing children enough to boss other parents around and tell them how to raise their children is commendable, but actually raising your own is worthy of being mocked?

I’m actually kind of offended by it. I’m the oldest of six. Are these people telling me that my little brothers should not have been born? Are they claiming my father and mother who I feel nothing but gratitude for are some how fair game for mockery? That kind makes me put them in the “enemy” category. Not them “I disagree” but the “enemy” and “they hate my family, therefor no peace with these people” categories.

This is such an embarrassing clip. I guess no-one at CNN knows how to operate Google, Yahoo or Bing in order to look up a quote. Sad, really sad. They’re illiterate religiously, culturally and technologically. And they’re incredibly stupid.

Oh well, they can use this clip to buttress arguments when applying for mental disability.

theCork on May 4, 2013 at 1:51 AM

I could say something about 3 out of the 4 cackling idiots in that video clip (like known terrorist sympathizer Marc Lamont-Hill calling other people “fanatic”) and terrorist propagandist Piers Morgan but I am truly deeply disappointed in Sister Hunstmans participation in these smears against her own family.

If she doesn’t want to be a member of our faith anymore, fine. That’s her “free agency”. But for her to sit and play along while these idiots slam her own flesh and blood with claims she knows damn well aren’t true just disgusts me to no end.

Please Ed, Allah, et al… give us an edit function?

So, if I’m understanding MSNBC correctly, people aren’t supposed to have a quiver of children — but if they do, those children belong to all of us collectively. Um, okay.

Kind of the same way as if you make a lot of money, “at some point you’ve made enough“. But if you make more, “you didn’t build that“, so you don’t own it.

Alberta_Patriot on May 4, 2013 at 5:59 AM

Were they insulting jews for any particular reason?
Obviously, the historical aspect of the quote is lost on Morgan and his confederacy of dunces.
This flippant argument from a group of left-tards who use children as the excuse for “gun control”, big nanny-ment, and yet, are pro abortion. Foolish CNN.

Let’s modernize it shall we?
Blessed is a man who’s clip is full of them. ;)

kregg on May 4, 2013 at 7:52 AM

it is no accident that the anti-God left effectively equates loving children with evil. It is primarily they who seek to either kill them off in the womb or sexually pervert their souls in defiance of the God they lothe. We are in serious moral crisis in America and if the left isn’t thwarted and sent back to Hades, we shall soon outdo all the great despots of the 2oth century–all the while calling it a good!

Try not to equate morality, or the lack of, with religion or god.
Much like their role model communists, the left worships government.
I (an individual) distrusts all ideologies that another man concocts.
Humans create laws and social constructs, but, quite often we fail to recognize the one law that really matters … the law of unintended consequences.

Now, if you watch the video notice how the lib-tards are stuck on the word quiver, so much so, their consensus determined that a quiver meant five.

now that, is accurate to a T for Morgan and his crew of ignorant tools..

I came from a family of five siblings.. nice to know my parents were religious “fanatics”.. huh Morgan, you @ss.. Apparently holding traditional religious views, Jew and Gentile is now fanaticism to the hipster gay agenda loving, terrorist humanizing left.

The best revenge on stupid?

MSNBC’s ratings…

Ed,
I think that Islam includes the Psalms as well, though the exact translations may vary…

Wiki (yeah, yeah, the source :)

The Qur’an (Sura An-Nisa 4:163) states “and to David We gave the Psalms”. Therefore, Islam confirms the Psalms as being inspired of God. The Qur’an mentions the word Zabur three times.

In step with the left’s never ending “war on children”.

If these self-righteous secularists live long enough, they will see what impact a depopulated world, in which the elderly outnumber the young, has on their idea of utopia. But I suspect, sadly, that even then they will not realize the destructive nature of their ideals.

lonestarleeroy on May 6, 2013 at 11:56 AM

Hey Hot Air. Do you have stock in CNN? Every time I look around, Hot Air has that British immigrant’s face on the lede and you are talking about whatever CNN does. All you do is increase that enemedia’s viewership.

I saw “ememedia” on SDA, and it is too good to let die.

lonestarleeroy on May 6, 2013 at 11:56 AM

Exactly, I wish “the right” had an organized system to do what the left does.

To wit: Why isn’t Dr. Gosnell the face of American liberalism?

If we played the game right we could make half of the Democrat Party throw up at the thought of electing those baby killers in our government… but no, we refuse to paint with a broad brush thinking it is unfair…

Forget fair. Every person who voted for a Democrat should be labeled a baby killer! Pictures of baby parts next to the candidate names on the ballots, should be mandatory! We need to make that be what the word “Democrat” means!

If we don’t start playing this game according to the rules the left uses we will always be a minority now.
