Obama on gun control: “This is just the first round”

posted at 8:41 pm on May 2, 2013 by Erika Johnsen

Note that he said this today during a meeting with his counterpart in Mexico — the very same country into which his administration has flooded thousands of untraceable guns in an, at best, scandalously ill-conceived gunwalking program that has contributed to the rampant violence. How nice.

President Barack Obama vowed Thursday during a trip to Mexico to continue pushing for new, tighter gun control rules in the United States, saying his proposals’ recent defeat in Congress was “just the first round.”

Speaking following a meeting with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, whose country has been ravaged by gang violence supported in part by gun trafficking into Mexico, Obama vowed to return to the issue of gun control in the United States. …

“When you’ve got 90 percent of the American people supporting the initiatives that we put forward … I believe that eventually we’re going to get that done, and I’m going to keep on trying,” he said.

Yes, we’ve heard that before — although how they’re going to convince the Democratic senators who voted against the Toomey/Manchin proposal (nevermind finding any more Republicans to go along with it) that it’s suddenly within their political interests to vote yes, remains a mystery. They’re really banking hard and pushing the ostensible fact the the vast majority of the public is at least vaguely with them on furthering federal gun-control measures; and while, as Allahpundit already noted, some of the current disapproval over President Obama’s handling of the issue is probably from supporters upset that he hasn’t done enough, a successful second round still seems like quite the feat.

If/when they resume their attempts to Do Something, I’d assume they’ll keep it to (inanely) expanded background checks, sans trying to work in a Feinstein-style “assault weapons” ban again, which failed 40-60 in its Senate vote — as it very well should have, hem hem.

Fixed it for him.

If I were Mexico’s president, I’d be asking one of two things, depending on how honest/corrupt I am;

Honest;

Mr. Obama, can you explain to me why and how your arming of insurgents in my country can be viewed as anything less than an act of war?

Corrupt;

How much more are you willing to pay me to keep me “on message” as you terrorize my country in your crusade to disarm your citizens?

As to which he actually does ask, I call the odds six-five and pick ‘em.

Sad part is, most of the public doesn’t even remember that congress just passed a law (signed by Bush) strengthening background checks in 2008 – in response to VA Tech.

No amount of correction changes that, or any other like it. Notice they still use the qualifier “assault.” Whatever mechanism we have as a species that pressures us to accept the truth, even against our will, it is either breaking down within them or has already broken down.

Have you ever — ever — seen a troll change an opinion because facts were presented that logically corrected the troll’s current understanding?

Nay. Thou hast not. The smart money is against it. The Magic 8 Ball says, “Concentrate and ask again” — but that’s only because it’s a plastic ball that yields random responses. Concentrate again not, neither ask again, bootlessly. We’ve the answer within us like too many tacos, swelling within us and desperate to burst free, desperate to ruin our sense of modest decorum and declare to anyone that will listen: Yes! Yes! We had tacos for lunch! And these people! — these people prefer the lie!

In our discourse with them they’ve often admitted that they really don’t understand the issue, nor do they care about the issue specifically.

They simply embrace their position on any given issue because it is opposite ours and, thus, affords them the opportunity to unleash their bile and vitriol against those with whom choose to disagree.

Because… the biggest lie they embrace… is that what they say or write makes an impression on anyone other than themselves.

‘Homicide rates are down since the 90′s due almost in total to abortion. 20 yrs after abortion is legalized, homicides fall and keep falling. Because so many potential killers were never born, especially in urban areas.’

It has been pushed by the Left forever. I’ve seen it made here by a few of the trolls.

Well, it has been debunked on numerous occasions, but most importantly, the study upon which it was based was destroyed and the data proven to have been flawed, which even the two authors (one, an admitted plagiarist) admitted. The hammer was swung…twice…by the Federal Reserve of Boston:
