Erin Burnett: Hey, 8 months does seem like a long time to release photos from Benghazi, huh?

posted at 9:22 pm on May 1, 2013 by Mary Katharine Ham

Perhaps bringing attention to how long it’s been since Benghazi was not the best strategy, given the administration seems to know little more now than it did eight months ago and has held no one responsible and brought no one to justice. Exactly how long does President Obama get to soberly fact-gather after the deaths of four Americans before a large part of the press stops giving him credit for his signature deliberation and gets insistent on hearing some answers?

Here’s CNN’s Erin Burnett asking a few questions:

BURNETT: New leads in the Benghazi attack after an avalanche of criticism for the fact that absolutely no one has been held accountable. Today, the FBI released photos of three men they want to question about the September 11th attacks on the U.S. consulate in Libya that killed Chris Stevens and three other Americans. The men were on the ground of the consulate during the attack and may be able to provide information. The question is, why did it take about eight months to figure this out? To get these photos to the public? Would it ever had happened if there didn’t continue to be such incredible controversy about Benghazi? Barbara Starr is “Out Front” with the latest y is the FBI releasing the photos now?

The “avalanche of criticism,” of course, has been frequently criticized on the left as politically motivated, and even some alleged journalists seem to think pressing the administration on this issue is naught but a counterproductive stress on the president’s zen process of passive justice-seeking. But Burnett’s question is a good primer for those folks on what the press is supposed to do: “Would it ever had happened if there didn’t continue to be such incredible controversy about Benghazi?”

Barbara Starr wonders, along with the rest of us, where are these guys? And, if we’d known about them earlier perhaps we’d have a better chance of finding them, questioning them, and finding culprits?

STARR: It raises some very interesting questions what else does the FBI know? What kind of cooperation are they getting from the libyans? Why are they focusing in on these three men and these pictures of them there the night the attack happened in September?

Maybe we can keep pushing on this and we’ll find out more.

Update: Here are the pictures of the three men in question.

Exactly how long does President Obama get to soberly fact-gather after the deaths of four Americans before a large part of the press stops giving him credit for his signature deliberation and gets insistent on hearing some answers?

On 9/11/01 America suffered unimaginable atrocities. President Bush was at Ground Zero on 9/14/01 after having signed documents putting the military on an increased mobilization status. When he said that we were going to get the terrorists who did this, we knew he meant it.

Why do I think that we would be in fact-finding mode for months if the rat-eared coward was in charge? Leaders sometimes don’t get the ability to defer action for months. Benghazi was one of those times and the lack of leadership is coming back to haunt this administration. We still don’t know how Ambassador Stevens died let alone whose blood was smeared on those columns at the consulate. And after eight months we get a couple of pictures taken before the attack. Pathetic.

It is simple what information is needed, and I applaud McCain and Graham, as seldom I do, for their letter to the WH today demanding the names of our people who survived the Benghazi attack. They will have reams to say about what happened and the Obama administration’s failure to provide these names smacks of nothing but a cover up that would make Watergate a whispered foreplay.

We are seeking information about three individuals who were on the grounds of the U.S. Special Mission when it was attacked. These individuals may be able to provide information to help in the investigation.

We need your help to solve this crime. If you have any information, text or e-mail BenghaziTips@ic.fbi.gov or submit information confidentially at https://forms.fbi.gov/benghazi-en.

Newsflash, Sherlocks! You’ve got about 30 Americans who were eye witnesses and probably have lots of information. Why don’t you ask them to tell America what happened.

IrishEi on May 1, 2013 at 9:41 PM

‘What’s true is that the intelligence was coming in and evolving as more information came up. And what is true. This is something that the American people can take to the bank—is that my administration plays this stuff straight. We don’t play politics when it comes to American national security. As information came in we gave it to the American people. And as we got new information, we gave that to the American people.

But I think our goal would be to bring them to justice. I was not personally aware of any request. Obviously we have an infrastructure that’s set up to manage requests like that. But we’re going to find out exactly what happened. Ultimately, though, any time there is a death of an American overseas, I want to find out what happened, because my most important job as president is keeping the American people safe. And we will get to the bottom of what happened, and we’re going to make sure most importantly that those who carried it out, that they are captured.

What my attitude on this is is if we find out there was a big breakdown and somebody didn’t do their job, they’ll be held accountable. Ultimately as Commander-in-Chief I am responsible and I don’t shy away from that responsibility.

My biggest priority right now is bringing those folks to justice. I am absolutely prepared to kill those behind the assault, but would prefer to capture them and bring them to justice. And I think the American people have seen that’s a commitment I always keep.’

First of all, these men should not be targets of the FBI; special operators should be after them. What my attitude on this is is if we find out there was a big breakdown and somebody didn’t do their job, they’ll be held accountable.

Of course, after reading something today, I am beginning to think the Left’s commitment to ‘holding people accountable’ is pretty iffy…at best.

The University of Wyoming also confirmed a statement that the police had “”obtained substantial evidence verifying that the offending Facebook post came from Lanker-Simons’ computer, while the computer was in her possession.”

According to a Facebook page that apparently belongs to Lanker-Simons she is a member of the University of Wyoming Gender & Women’s Studies group as well as the school’s chapter of The Nonviolent Communist.

Since police cited her, supporters have a constructed a Facebook page entitled “Meg Lanker-Simons is innocent.”

I want you to take a sec and a deep breath, then prepare to throw yourself down the wormhole as you wrap your mind around this:

“Mef Lanker-Simons is INNOCENT we believe WHAT SHE DID WAS JUSTIFIED AND DESERVES NOT TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE for her accusations we stand behind you sister,” reads that page’s description.

Which can be reduced to:

‘Yes, she did it, but she’s innocent because it was a justifiable faking of a hate crime and she doesn’t deserve to be held accountable because, well, she’s special. That’s why.’

So, maybe, what happened in Benghazi was ‘justified’ because the United States is some ‘mean, imperialistic, colonial, white man’s rape machine’ that didn’t arm the ‘poor rebels of Benghazi’ enough and their ‘reaction’ to the youtube video was ‘justified.’ /

Because they have to show “progress” on the case after Dear Leader was asked questions about it yesterday?

Could it be they then grabbed the three most “interesting” photos they had and released them? To show how much progress they have made. They have top people on it, ya’know. There will be a press conference with these “top people” any day now, where they will tell us about the progress they have made and answer questions.

Call me super extra cynical, but … they’re putting some pictures out NOW asking for help … isn’t this awfully like what worked after the Boston marathon bombings?

Except this isn’t anything like the Boston marathon bombings. The only link is that, (AFAIK) purely for PUBLIC SHOW they’re putting out some pictures and asking the public for help, in the identical way they asked the public for help just a few weeks ago with Boston. So the silly, uninformed public will think, ah, ok, they’re on this like they were on the Boston bombing.

In other words, I’m saying in a super extra cynical way, this gesture is nothing else but completely, utterly, 100% done for show, and show only. And if that’s so … then they are the sickest, most evil people around, who’d make futile gestures only to show they’re “doing something”.

Paul-Cincy on May 1, 2013 at 10:24 PM

I think you answered your own question but I think you missed a couple of interesting points.

In Boston, they put out those pictures of the terrorists and asked for help. They got better pictures of the terrorists as a result. But the Tsarnaev brothers really brought about their own demise without public assistance. The younger terrorist spent an entire day in an area supposedly locked down by the police without anybody noticing. It was a guy smoking in his own backyard who discovered his hiding place.

In Libya, they have names. But after eight months, what difference does it make? Who the hell knows where these people are now? Even if they are truly involved and not random pictures of Muslims that the FBI released this week to shut the media up about inaction(you think you’re super cynical!).

Casablanca’s Captain Renault “round up the usual suspects” wouldn’t be a stretch. My main point is Obama may be catering to the basest, most primitive and mindless impulses of the public with his “we’re putting out pictures, just like in Boston, we’re doing all we can, we care”, in the same way they evoke knee-jerk emotional responses through “racism!” “binders of women!” “war on women!” “gay rights!” “the rich are selfish and greedy!”. To all appearances, at least, it appears to me, it’s a calculated manipulation of public opinion with zero investigatory value. Even if that’s remotely what’s happening, it’s disgusting. Eight months out, putting out 3 pictures. It’s pitiful.

I can easily imagine President Gutsy still telling us, on this date in 2002, that we must “not jump to conclusions”.

IIRC it took only a few days to publicly finger bin Laden and al-Qaeda.

Less time than that for in-the-know people to say it to each other. Testimony and memoirs indicate most of the PTB came to the conclusion almost immediately that it was al-Qaeda. They were right.

Based on similar circumstantial evidence, maybe even better, this admin decided to tell us the Benghazi attack was caused by a video. They had to back off on that. Eight months later they still haven’t told us anything else.

The Watergate burglary, which Nixon had NO knowledge of beforehand occurred on:

17 June 1972

7 months, 22 days – or 236 days – the Senate, led by Democrats, voted to establish a select committee to investigate Watergate.

It’s been 7 months, 21 days – or 233 days – since our consulate was attacked in Benghazi and the first American Ambassador in 33 years to be assassinated, along with 3 other Americans.

Can you please explain to me why Democrats didn’t think
7 months, 22 days (236 days) was ‘a long time ago’ back when Nixon was in office, but 7 months, 21 days (233 days) IS somehow ‘a long time’ now that a Democratic President named Barack Obama is in office or should I just assume that you are an Obama Firster, who would protect him at any and all costs?

Hillary in front of those caskets, talking about that stupid Mohammed video, it reminded me of a true crime video I watched. A guy had broken his wife’s neck, put her at the bottom of the stairs, to make it look like she fell down the stairs. When the cops came, he pointed out the awkward sandals she was wearing, saying those were to blame for the fall. Then he went into these histrionics cursing the sandals and saying he had told her not to wear them. Misdirection right over his dead wife’s body. It didn’t work for him though. Seems to be working for Hillary. She denied proper security for Benghazi. So she blames a video. And now, 8 months later, who’s to say what happened.

I shouldn’t reference things like 4th trimester abortions, our Libyan ambassador being sodomized to death and being dragged through the street in front of cheering animals chanting allah’s name, providing guns to drug lords that kill thousands of Mexicans as well as some Americans, providing welfare and legal protection to vermin that blow up bombs at marathon in one of our larger cities, spending trillions of dollars that will third world our kids and grand kids and leave them living at a cuban level of existence.

All just tin foil hat wearing lunacy.

Its a shame your party is so transparent with its rabid politicization of these 4 Americans. Mainstream America knows your party only cares about blaming the president for this tragedy. You don’t give a d@mn about those dead Americans.

Says the slobbering slave of the politcizer-of-dead-folks-in-chief.

Obama called wondering where you are; it’s your day to lick his a$$ clean after his morning dump.

Fast and Furious, Benghazi and Boston. To use a bit of Sen. Dirkson’s famous quip, with a twist, “pretty soon, you’re talking about real cover-up!”

Benghazi will be Hillary’s swiftboat

Erin Burnett is one good-looking moron.

I’m having difficulty believing these guys had anything to do with it. If they did, how did the white house find out?
What evidence do they have, other than pictures of “persons of interest”? Why not put that out too?
Why put those pictures out for the consumption of an American audience?
Do they expect Libyans to rat them out?
If so, who would said Libyans rat them out to?

The book that keeps coming to mind, for me, is Fahrenheit 451. The scene where they needed a body, couldn’t find the culprit, but knew about some random guy who took walks where their mechanical killbot dog could easily find him and take him out on live TV.

Don’t you think, if they really wanted to, they could come up with pictures of these 3, dead? With their faces blown off? But with claims that “these are the guys!!!”

Don’t you think they’ve pointed this possibility out to any number of politicians on the hill? What could the opposition possibly say after such a contrived revelation without being called conspiracy nuts?

Nothing is adding up here. Why are they lying about this? What on earth are they hiding???

Average male CNN viewer of Erin Burnett’s show “wow, her eyes sure are pretty”, “man, she sure is a beautiful girl”, “nice r–k”…what is she droning on about?….”wow I sure wish my girlfriend looked like her”…
