Video: Boston man politely informs Infowars reporter what he thinks of conspiracy theories about marathon bombings

posted at 3:21 pm on April 29, 2013 by Allahpundit

Via Raw Story and Mediaite, enjoy as a local confronts a representative from one of Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s favorite sites. There are two ways to respond to a crank. One: Rebut him point by point. That’s effective when done correctly, but often it requires patience and easy recall of available facts in order to spot the crank’s lies and distortions. Difficult to do extemporaneously, and flawed insofar as it pays the crank the unwitting compliment of taking him seriously enough to rebut.

Two: Do this.

Fair warning — there’s an F-bomb here every three seconds or so. Not only is it not safe for work, it’s probably not safe to play at home with the windows open and/or children within 100 yards. Either use your headphones or save it for when there’s no one around. As for what the Infowars guy is filming, I don’t know but I’m sure we’ll find out when it’s linked on Drudge in a week or two.

If one of you regular commenters engaged in this kind of exchange (which is entirely one sided from what I saw) …

they would quite appropriately get BANNED FOR LIFE!

But you want to hold this up as an example of:

“How to interact with people with whom you REALLY disagree”!!!

Is that the message here, AP?

Or am I missing some fine nuance?

PolAgnostic on April 29, 2013 at 3:29 PM

Great, with one note:

Alex Jones isn’t a rightwinger, and InfoWars doesn’t peddle ‘rightwing’ conspiracy theories. They hate Republicans as much as Democrats. See: Their decade-long campaign to convince the world that Bush/Cheney were behind 9-11.

Other than that, great.

Cindy Munford on April 29, 2013 at 3:43 PM

Jones is a nut, not a right/left nut, just a nut.

The FBI didn’t blow up anyone but they let everyone down. Too little is reported about it.

Hah, people in Boston don’t have half of a brain. Their dead relatives look upon them with disgust and scorn. If they’d have a smidgeon of brain they wouldn’t let the likes of their governor to lock them up, en masse, and have them searched and thrown out of their homes, at gunpoint, without warrants.

The smoker dude would have found the blood sooner, by his boat, had he been allowed to roam about that day. It’s a big shame that so many resources, so much ammo and equipment couldn’t even kill two idiots.

Imagine…there the first Tea Party took place!

Although I wasn’t enamored with the persons technique of ‘argument’ to begin with … what with the rampant cussing and vile comments he was flinging around… he completely lost me when he went off on the ‘right wing conspiracy’ tangent. Further, so far as I can tell, Alex Jones isn’t s ‘right wing extremist’.

Really getting sick of people flinging those kinds of accusations around when they get irritated with … well… just about anyone on any issue.

So a couple douche bags flapping their gums and staring at each other. No wonder a beta male finds this noteworthy.

It’s noteworthy because, for reasons I can’t fathom, Infowars is increasingly mainstream. Drudge links them. They’ve somehow gotten access to press conferences. (Deval Patrick fielded at least one question by them at a presser about the bombings.) It’s gratifying to see someone call this for what it is.

“Right wing conspiracy.” We’re getting blamed for truthers?

Smoothies on April 29, 2013 at 3:29 PM

Apparently at Harvard and nearby schools they teach that only right-wingers have crazy conspiracies.

So if it is a crazy conspiracy theory there must be a right-wing connection in there somewhere. Lately some people are saying that al-Qaeda is “right-wing”. All things bad are “right-wing”. Lenin, Trotsky, Stalin, and Mao all thought so, too. That’s how left-wing Marx admirers think.

However, left-wingers are free to make up crazy conspiracy theories about right-wingers and they are taken seriously. All such conspiracy theories are considered rational by lefties.

Wolf Blizter almost got one started within an hour of the bombings, openly speculating there was a good chance right-wing Tea Party types were behind them, based on no evidence whatsoever.

farsighted on April 29, 2013 at 3:51 PM

Liberals were saddened that the attack wasn’t a right-wing conspiracy. Deeply. They had to inject it somewhere. Alex Jones is as good a vehicle as anything I guess for a crowd that just nods at what their handlers tell them to think.

But equating Alex Jones insanity with Right Wingers doesn’t cut it either

I don’t think he’s “equating” Alex Jones with (all) right-wingers. He’s claiming Jones is on the right. That’s a dumb way to characterize his hallucinatory politics, but if your understanding of “right wing” is crudely “anti-government,” you might make that leap. As another commenter noted above, Ron Paul’s been going on Jones’s show for years precisely because they’re both suspicious of government, albeit in different ways.

Even Axelrod was doing it.

Imagine the crazy conspiracy theories that would be out there by now about right-wing terrorists if investigators still didn’t have a clue who was behind these bombings.

I’m sure many of the usual left-wing lunatics would seriously speculate that Darth Cheney was behind it all.

And some of these theories would be seriously considered and discussed on MSNBC, and at CBSNBCABCCNN, and by the NYT and WaPo, and on the Daily Show.

The only reason they are not out there is the left-wing conspiracy machine had a wrench thrown into it by reality.

Getting in their grill and making fun of them DOES.

Becasue if you try YOUR approach, all they say is, “We have the photo’s” or “I’m JUST askin’ questions.” Or, “The GOVERNMENT says that, but they are lying.”

You cannot argue with a fool or a drunk…..Fat Alex Jones dood is a fool….

Right wing conspiracy mongering?

Kensington on April 29, 2013 at 4:03 PM

I’ve posted this twice, but I’ll post it one more time. If your understanding of “right wing” is no more sophisticated than “anti-government,” then yes, you might conclude Alex Jones is right wing. Ron Paul is considered “right wing” even though he’s certainly not a mainstream conservative. Boston guy’s grasp of politics may be crude, but he’s not claiming Jones is a Republican or something.

It is not gratifying to see someone (even though I disagree with Infowars) subjected to obscenities and defamatory language while peaceful engaged in their Constitutional Rights.

You, or at least Ed, would not tolerate commenters on Hot Air engaging in this kind of behavior.

Why the hypocrisy?

Where’s the hypocrisy? This is our private property. If Infowars guy is on his own private property, of course he shouldn’t have to endure this. I don’t think Alex Jones is under some obligation to grant Boston guy a comment account on his site so that he can yell at him over there. But in public, it’s up to the cops. Forgive me for not shedding tears that people who apologize for terrorists by pushing 9/11 Trutherism and garbage about the FBI bombing Boston had to endure a few obscenities. You’re apt to hear worse than this at a hockey game, frankly. Especially if you’re in Philly.

And Ed and I actually do tolerate comments like this, probably more than we should. We don’t like banning people. When commenters yell at each other, even with profanity, we tend to let them slide except in extreme cases.

Allahpundit on April 29, 2013 at 4:13 PM

I just don’t think we’d be seeing HA’ers making this case here if this was some guy berating some Code Pink folks.
Suddenly a sensitivity to profanity?

verbaluce on April 29, 2013 at 4:05 PM

Complete nonsense! I certainly would make the argument. And its misguided to suggest that HA’ers like myself are somehow defending Infowar idiots. We are not. We are defending civility in debate. (Its one of the main things that distinguishes our behavior from those of leftists.)

Dr Snooze on April 29, 2013 at 4:13 PM

It’s noteworthy because, for reasons I can’t fathom, Infowars is increasingly mainstream. Drudge links them. They’ve somehow gotten access to press conferences. (Deval Patrick fielded at least one question by them at a presser about the bombings.) It’s gratifying to see someone call this for what it is.

Allahpundit on April 29, 2013 at 3:50 PM

WOW! Now, that’s what I call ENVY Allahpundit. Sure, try and deny it; you’re admitting it here in the clearest terms imaginable, basically listing all the little ENVIES you have against Infowars–which has some pretty highly educated folks doing their reporting for them these days, but of course, you wouldn’t have known that, since you’re too busy feeling smug and superior–why, exactly you think you’re justified in feeling that hasn’t become clear yet at Hot Air.

They’re “increasingly mainstream.” Yeah, that’s bad, right?

Drudge links them. But not “Hot Air?”

They’ve gotten access to press conferences–”somehow.” Perhaps they met the requirements and requested access?

Deval Patrick fielded at least one question by them. So, what does that mean? They’re actually left-wingers? Yeah, uh-huh, right.

It’s the ENVY that blows your “smug” condemnation cover, Allah.

mountainaires on April 29, 2013 at 4:14 PM

But equating Alex Jones insanity with Right Wingers doesn’t cut it either

I don’t think he’s “equating” Alex Jones with (all) right-wingers. He’s claiming Jones is on the right. That’s a dumb way to characterize his hallucinatory politics, but if your understanding of “right wing” is crudely “anti-government,” you might make that leap. As another commenter noted above, Ron Paul’s been going on Jones’s show for years precisely because they’re both suspicious of government, albeit in different ways.

Allahpundit on April 29, 2013 at 4:00 PM

I see your point AP.

Being a Texan I never bought into Ron Paul’s mystique either…I always saw him as a craven political opportunist and a hypocrite who brought home plenty of Bacon to his district.
But that’s just me.

Alex Jones is an opportunist in search of a fool.

workingclass artist on April 29, 2013 at 3:57 PM

Yeah, Michelle Malkin maybe Conservative but she is no fool!

d1carter on April 29, 2013 at 4:01 PM

I was speaking to the radical paranoids and clueless Potheads who make up most of Jones’ audience. Jones represents the corroding effect of unchecked cynicism coupled with an enormous ego can have on the ability to reason.

workingclass artist on April 29, 2013 at 4:14 PM

Is this the intelligent part from someone from Cambridge…”he belongs crawled up someone’s ass in Alabama”?

d1carter on April 29, 2013 at 4:14 PM

Smug sanctimony, and particularly that superiority complex doesn’t really look that good on you, “Hot Air.” You aren’t that good.

Superiority to what? To people who think that the Boston bombing is an inside job?

You don’t feel superior to those people?

Allahpundit on April 29, 2013 at 4:15 PM

I’m not much for Infowars’s conspiracy theories, but their website is one of the few places willing to publicize the outrageous behavior of the fascists in the TSA. That’s usually what Drudge links to.

JFKY on April 29, 2013 at 4:11 PM

Dismissal is fine. But, that’s not what you said.

there’s a big difference between laughing at someone and insulting them and sounding like a jack-booted thug…you don’t belong here…you’re not welcome in my neighborhood, etc.

blue13326 on April 29, 2013 at 4:10 PM

Exactly, Blue!

Dr Snooze on April 29, 2013 at 4:17 PM

you don’t belong here…you’re not welcome in my neighborhood, etc.

Whats’ wrong with it saying it, especially if it’s true….the fact that you CAN go doesn’t mean you’ll be welcome, and the fact you can go, doesn’t make you right or welcome or some how sacrosanct….

The K*K can march thru Harlem, as far as I care, but that doesn’t mean the residents have to like or can’t tell them, “You aren’t welcome here.”

You seem to border on the idea that the “right” to say or be equals the “right” to be welcomed or accepted…it simply means you are “tolerated.”

Foot Troofer didn’t get punched and he didn’t get arrested…so he got all the Free Speech he deserved or was guaranteed.

JFKY on April 29, 2013 at 4:18 PM

Truthers are just terrible people and that Boston guy is an asshat who thinks truthers are “rightwing”? That makes him even dumber than the troofer. Just lost a lot of respect for Boston.

tetriskid on April 29, 2013 at 4:18 PM

Liberal a$$hats who say “Bush did 911″ is a “right wing” conspiracy?

Since when?

HotAirian on April 29, 2013 at 3:45 PM

It’s both extreme right- and left- wing, they kinda meet in the middle with all their GMO, NWO and autism rants.

The troofer or the moron who thinks troofer are rightwing?

Not too “smahhhht.”

tetriskid on April 29, 2013 at 4:20 PM

Dismissal is fine. But, that’s not what you said.

“Dismuissal” is not simply Silent Contempt…getting in their grill is…becasue yuor way, little Troofer, well BIG Troofer, gets to just move along unimpeded in his way of spreading lies….

I’m for openly dismissing such Trolls….Jesus didn’t ignore or dismiss the Money-Lenders….
